Marek and Adrian dated in high school, but a bitter breakup led them to choose different paths. Adrian is out and proud while Marek is in the closet. Adrian embraces his eccentricity while Marek clings to a conservative image. And while Marek worked hard to build a successful life and financial stability by climbing the corporate ladder, Adrian threw caution to the wind and has spent the last five years backpacking across the world.
Now Adrian is back in Warsaw, Poland, but while Marek thinks they will have a hookup and have a blast from the past, Adrian is just looking for a place to crash. Worse still, Adrian turns up at Marek’s advertising agency for help with his outrageous new business venture, and if Marek wants to get promoted, he might have to work with the guy who broke his heart.
World of Stories of romance that span every corner of the globe.
K. A. Merikan is a duo of queer writers who don’t believe in following the well-trodden path. In their books you can dip your toe into dangerous romance with mafiosi, outlaw bikers and bad boys, all from the safety of your sofa. They love the weird and wonderful, stepping out of the box, and bending stereotypes both in life and in fiction. Their stories don’t shy away from exploring the darker side of M/M romance, and feature a variety of anti-heroes, rebels, misfits, and underdogs who go against the grain. Be prepared for shocking twists, dark humor, raw emotions, and sizzling hot scenes.
K.A. Merikan also writes steamy M/M romcoms as Devon Doe.
Disclaimer: This book was a huge nostalgia trip for me. Warsaw is my home town. I was 10 when we moved to the States, and I also lived in Poland as an adult, never mind the many trips I've taken to visit friends and family.
I am fluent in the immigrant experience and could relate to Marek, who moved from a small town to a big city feeling like he had everything to prove.
Poles are not known for being lighthearted and whimsical. The Polish character speaks to loyalty and a strong work ethic, but unfortunately homophobia runs rampant (thanks to the massive influence of the Catholic church).
I'm not ingrained in day-to-day Polish culture, but this book gave me hope that the younger generation, especially, is coming round.
In the book, Marek and Adrian serve food at an LGBQT festival, and Marek's roommates have no issue with Adrian being gay. But Marek is still afraid to come out, and I don't blame him, what with his boss thinking a prostitute is an appropriate reward for a job well done.
Marek and Adrian are complete opposites, and Adrian is the more likable MC by far. Adrian is sweet and adventurous; he's traveled the world, experienced different cultures, and has big dreams. As my friend Ele said, Adrian has his head in the clouds.
Marek, however, has his feet planted firmly on the ground. He works 12+ hour days and owns expensive suits; his main goal is to get a promotion at the prestigious ad agency where he works. Never mind that his boss snorts cocaine in the office. It's what Marek WANTS.
When Marek learns Adrian's dream is to start a food truck business called "Jars," he's outraged. Marek is resentful that Adrian's grandma left him money so Adrian can start all over again after "wasting" five years playing a vagabond.
Marek is one of the many "jars" (słoiki) who moved from the country to Warsaw seeking opportunities; these small towners are often poor and travel with containers filled with homecooked meals. Marek finds the term "jars" offensive and thinks Adrian is thoughtless to use it. Adrian tells him he wants to reclaim the word and create positive connotations around it.
I loved the descriptions of Polish food! It made me miss my babcia and her cooking something fierce. Adrian cooks traditional Polish cuisine but with a healthy, modern flair. And Marek believes in Adrian's cooking. He helps Adrian market his food truck and eventually falls in love with the idea.
This is a slow burn story. The men, once high school sweethearts, have to find the connection they lost when Marek abandoned Adrian after Adrian came out.
The steam doesn't come until 80 percent, which didn't bother me at all (and y'all know I'm a massive perv). The unfulfilled sexual tension (Adrian and Marek share a flat AND a bed) burned bright and hot.
At one point, Marek is so upset that Adrian is taking a bath when he needs to take a shower, he dismantles the bathroom lock and climbs into the bathtub with him. This was bratty and playful and all kinds of sexy too.
The epilogue is EVERYTHING. I was so happy that these two men could have a HEA in Warsaw, and I'm beyond grateful to Kat and Agnes for writing this charming, authentic story that highlights the very best of Polish culture—except maybe hooligans named Baldy.
I loved this!! A definite change from the gritty, dark books these girls write.A story of second chance love for Marek and Adrian-two men who couldn't be more different.
Marek is very uptight, firmly stuck in the closest. His main focus is his work at an Advertising Agency. He's all about how he appears to others, not wanting to let his defences down.He tries to ignore homophobic slurs from his boss and co-workers,desperately seeking promotion.....but his life is about to be turned upside down with the appearance from someone from his past.
Adrian is the complete opposite. He's open about his sexuality. He's laid back and charming. He's spent the last 5 years travelling but now he's back in Moscow looking for somewhere to stay.
These two men have a past.......they were lovers, until Marek let Adrian slip away.
I don't know how but these Authors create some of the best couples.Dom and Seth are my all time favourite M/M couple ever and I recently read The Black Sheep and The Rotten Apple and loved Evan and Julian but I've got to say Marek and Adrian are right up there.
Marek is a bit of a complex character but I actually got him and really felt for him.He puts on a facade but is deeply unhappy and when Adrian reappears in his life he's conflicted. He wants Adrian but is he willing to let go of his carefully crafted life and be true to himself?
The two men are thrown together, even more, when Adrian approaches the Advertising Agency Marek works for with the idea of starting up a mobile food truck, concentrating on traditional home cooked food.I absolutely loved this aspect. If there's one thing I love in books it's to hear about cooking/food.I loved Adrian cooking in Marek's kitchen making him authentic polish meals when he came home.I visited Poland when I was very young and can't remember much about the food but the food described here sounds delicious
This is a slow burner on the physical side but the attraction between them and sexual tension was more than enough to keep me satisfied and when they do,eventually, get dirty together it's just delicious. And the Epilogue was just perfect.
While I am far more used to KA Merikan's more gritty style, I also have been known to enjoy their more sweet romances, like I Love You More Than Pierogi. KA Merikan just have a way of painting a vivid landscape so that you feel like you're actually experiencing the story, rather than just reading it.
The MC's in I Love You More Than Pierogi start out very different. Merek is image conscious, snobby and superficial, while Adrian is worldly, laid back and likable. I admit I was wondering just how the authors were going to fit them together and make me like them both. They managed, though, so I call it a win.
For the first half, or so, I just wanted Marek to remove the stick from his bum because it was clearly making him cranky. He wasn't even the slightest bit likable. He ran hot and cold...ok, tepid and cold...well, mostly cold, and I just wanted to shake him. I had such a hard time relating to him, that although I understood his motivations, I just didn't like him, pretty much at all. It was like he was in an abusive relationship with himself and he refused to see anything outside of it. And I understand that a lot of his attitudes are very cultural, so I fully admit the disconnect there, with me being American. I just don't understand why some people try so hard to fit in with people that only make them miserable. Be they family, coworkers or society.
Adrian, on the other hand, chose to be himself. After coming out, he chose to walk away from his small town and see what the rest of the world offered. He seemed to be relaxed and knew the value of his own worth. He actually cared about people and had spent the last 5 years travelling around helping those less fortunate. He saw a lot of the world and it made him humble for things he took for granted growing up. I liked Adrian, right away. He and Marek are very different people at their core, though. Adrian chose to leave his home town and his home country and all the oppressive attitudes he grew up with, while Marek chose instead to break up with Adrian and stay home.
I am a bit surprised that Adrian contacted Marek, though. Marek broke things off with Adrian in a most awful way, and the sad thing is, he didn''t appear to have changed at all in the five years that Adrian had been away. He's miserable, but has no plans at all of changing that. He works a soul-sucking job where his boss openly snorts cocaine and is just as openly homophobic. I get why Marek isn't out, there, but truthfully, I don't get why he just accepts that it has to be that way. But then I really don't know how things are in Poland, either. I grew up in the US, and while I've certainly lived in some places that weren't all that accepting, I've been mostly lucky. I kept telling myself, though, that there had to be more to Marek, than met the eye at first. And I was right. In reality, he was a scared boy, wanting like crazy to fit in, but never really feeling like he's succeeded.
And Adrian also, had forgotten what it was like to live in such an oppressive environment, much less work in one. Sure, many people in the cities are accepting, but just as many aren't. So Adrian, maybe, had a few unreasonable expectations of his own.
In the end, though, Marek found the courage to set himself free. And I loved it so hard. I cheered and wanted to hug him. I was right - that stick was making him cranky. Once removed, he was actually an ok guy.
So, in spite of my initial reaction to Marek, I'd say read this book! You'll get to experience a little bit of Poland and some delicious sounding food and you'll get to see a young man really find his way. It really was lovely to see.

----------------- ARC of I Love You More Than Pierogi was generously provided by the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
First and foremost, this book is a love letter to Poland. If there was an MM book set in my country, this is exactly how I'd want it to be written.
Although I 've never visited Warsaw, the setting felt truly authentic and relatable to me. Because despite their ethnic differences, some postwar european capitals share common grounds and a morbid past that keeps shaping future generations. Like people are still trying to heal and rebuild, or something like that.
All this is very apparent in Marek and Adrian's flawed and imperfect characters. Marek has set the bar too high for himself, always trying for more, planting himself firmly into the closet, and losing a piece of his soul in the process. Adrian, on the other hand, might be a breath of fresh air, but his coming into contact with all these other civilisations, made him forget some hard truths.
This is also a book about second chances in love, in work, in relationships...in life in general. Marek and Adrian might be polar opposites, but once upon a time they were insaparable. This kind of love doesn't just disappear. It's still here, it just needs some more work and compromising.
"I will never run away. You 're my first love. Around you, I know who I am."
The steam here is low for K.A.Merikan standars but the slow burn is delicious! There is so much chemistry and the fact that the MCs are so different serves to highlight it.
The food! Polish food is a whole different chapter here. I love Polish cuisine and I 've tried the real thing, cooked by Poles who know their way around a kitchen. The descriptions here made me salivate! I find Adrian's business venture, Jars to be a brilliant idea! I hope this really is a thing.
This book addresses important issues like homophobia and immigration, but don't let that fool you. It is a very sweet, quirky, and original story, that proves just how versatile the authors are. Recommended!
*___* <3 I can't wait for this book to be out. It's been a long time in the making. It's our little nostalgic project set in Poland. Warsaw is Agnes's home town so we had great fun writing about the city and some of the specifically Polish stereotypes.
Comes out January 4th 2017 from Dreamspinner Press. It's sweet (but sexy!!!), nostalgic, a funny contemporary romance! No crazy shit in this one ;) Just a lot of True Love Forever <3.
What I particularly enjoyed about this was the new (to me) Polish setting. I read mostly for the romance but one of the other things I love most about reading is experiencing new places and seeing how other people live. This means I will almost always jump on m/m romances set outside of the usual places (i.e. US and UK), even though there doesn't seem to be too many of them. I thought the authors did a great job of getting the feel of modern-day Poland. I especially loved all the descriptions of the food -- I so want to eat from that food truck! The other thing that worked for me was that Marek and Adrian felt like very real characters. They weren't perfect, but they were just what you expect guys of that age (about 23?) to be like.
I Love You More Than Pierogi by KA Merikan is the second chance at love story of Marek and Adrian. Marek ended things in an- we’ll say- unkind way five years earlier. Adrian has returned and contacted Marek and what ensues is a story about having the courage to let go and be yourself about second chances.
My highlights:
– Adrian. What was there not love about him? He was caring and selfless. He was my favorite part of the book.
-The setting. I’ve never read a book based in Poland. It was interesting to learn about their culture and foods.
-Quirkiness. I always enjoy stories that are different- that don’t follow the same cookie cutter romance formula.
-Chemistry. Despite how different Marek and Adrian were there was no denying their attraction to each other.
-Marek’s freedom- freedom to be himself and not allow social dictates and beliefs ingrained by family and culture to weigh him down. It was beautiful.
What I didn’t love so much.
Marek. Oi, he was so stuck up and opinionated. He was a hard pill to swallow. There was even a point that I wanted to Adrian to move on from him. I felt like he didn’t deserve my Adrian. He was and cold – it drove me nuts. Granted Marek does change- there was definitely character growth. It just took a while for me to warm up to him- too much time.
All in all, I’m giving this slow burn, second chance romance 4 Stars. I’ve had my eyes on this writing duo but was always too scared to read them. Their books seem more on the kinkylicious side, so I was happy to see them release a Contemporary Romance. If you’ve been like me and too afraid to give them a chance- pick this one up! If you’re in the mood for a second chance that is quirky and original- pick this one up! After reading this lovely book, I know I’ll be reading more books written by this talented writing duo.
DNF @ 20%............I should have listened to my friend Michaelle and never even started this book. Why oh why did I not listen to my GR TWIN? I took an immediate dislike to one of the MC’s from the very beginning and that was that. I didn’t want to bother continuing forth.
K.A. Merikan (are) is new-to-me author(s). I know of them of course, but they write books in theme that I don't particularly care about. However, I was curious with this one because it looked, well, cute, plus it had that reunion theme as well as a setting outside the US and U.K.
There were things I liked and things I wasn't sure about...
I loved the whole talk about Polish foods, and the glimpses of different culture. I have never set my feet in Eastern Europe, so what is written here just makes me yearn to visit the country. Plus I totally can feel what Adrian is saying about homesickness during his travel.
I have never traveled as long as Adrian, but I can imagine missing the foods of my own country. I think that's natural isn't it? Adrian said,"I love spiciness, the sweetness of coconut milk, and I think frying spices before adding anything else frees the flavors, but that kind of food also gets old after a while”, while I'm probably the other way around coming from country with spicy, coconut milk, and spices. Heck, I was only in The Netherlands for a week and I ended up going to Indonesian restaurant in Den Haag 'cause I couldn't live without my Nasi Padang.
I loved Adrian's passion towards bringing the food of his heart to the market. And I loved Marek's passion to make it all come true.
What I wasn't sure about was the romance though. I guess I thought the arguments between Marek and Adrien were hurtful to one another and I wasn't sure whether both of them truly work things out. Oh I know Marek is unhappy, and I was proud of him finally ditching his fears about coming out, and left his soul-sucking job to help Adrian with their start-up, but I also thought it was a little too easy... Maybe I need a couple of chapters to be able to completely in tune with the couple.
But the epilogue ... yes, the epilogue was gorgeous! My extra .5 stars is for that epilogue alone :)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
OMG Adrian! I think soon as he appeared in this book, I can't helped myself to fall for him. Of course I was a little disappointed when he 'rejected' Marek in the beginning,. To think again, Marek was kind of a judgmental guy, and he definitely need some 'treatment' from Adrian. A bit snobbish and and clueless , Marek that is. But I'm glad that 'one moment' after he's almost got 'everything' was an eye opener for him. Second change love story is hit and miss for me, but this one is great, the ending is perfect. I couldn't ask for more. Recommended!

One thing I know for sure is that this book made me hungry!
It's a second chance romance about two friends and highschool sweethearts who parted ways after graduation and a bitter break up. Marek is down to earth, he wants job security and to climb the ladder in the company he works. At least that's how he is at the beginning of the book... Adrian, on the other hand, is a free spirit. He likes adventure, excitement and spontaneity. He is open about his sexuality and proud for who he is. He doesn't make plans and prefers to live life in a day to day basis.
After graduation, Marek stayed closeted and decided to play it safe by getting a degree and going on to work for a big advertising company, while Andrian decided to go on the backpacking trip they had planed, even if Marek wouldn't go along. Five years after they spoke for the last time they meet again when Adrian needs a place to stay for the night.
So, these two are complete opposites but somehow they fit together. They have a lot of unresolved issues to work out between them as they are both still bitter about the way they parted. At first, they think they are over it and act as if everything is in the past, forgotten and forgiven. Though, soon their resentment bubbles to the surface and it's apparent they are still hurt over their break up.
Adrian is in a point in his life where he wants to stop traveling and after five years on the road he wants to put down some roots and start his own company. The idea with the food truck was great and all this food he cooked throughout the book seemed delicious. Well, everything except for the fried liver but that's just me. I also liked the name and the concept they came up with.
Marek is reluctant at first but soon he gets excited about Adrian's idea and helps set up the business. The two reconnect through food while living together and working to establish the food truck. They enjoy the familiarity of each other's company as well as all the new things that they discover about the other.
It's an easy and angst-free read, perfect for a relaxing afternoon. Though fairly short, at only about one hundred pages, the characters are well developed and the plot is complete. There is also an epilogue at the end that solidifies their HEA and gives us a glance at what their life together is like.
I liked this book a lot and recommend it if you're in the mood for something light and sweet. 3.5 stars from me.
“I love you More Than Pierogi” by K.A. Merikan is a sweet, freeing and slightly-emotional romance set in the beautiful country of Poland. It gives a vivid account of the healing and rebuilding city of Warsaw. Every reader will feel a strong connection with the city which is described and accounted so beautifully here. The experience of knowing a city you have never been to is what you will get in this book. The culture, the mindset of the people, their struggles and hopes and oh, GOD! The food, everything was on point in this book. The romance in between all of this was just as engaging and “Khatta-meetha” (sour-sweet). I loved it all!!!
The MCs are completely different in views and characters. Where Adrian has a love for adventure and thinking outside the box, Marek is stiff and proper, leading a superficial life, living a lie and trying very hard to fit in. So, you can guess that they are as opposite as they can get. But they were inseparable once when they were kids. So despite a horrible breakup almost 5 years ago, Marek and Adrian still had unresolved and very strong feelings for each other which they unearth one realization at a time as they room together.
Marek is in deep-closet trying to fit in with his asshole co-workers who did not have any respect for him whatsoever. He strives very hard trying to make a life on his own in the city and shedding his “country roots”. He works non-stop without enjoying life. Adrian on the other hand has lived his dream to see the world. He is laidback and completely comfortable in his skin as an out and proud gay man. Adrian does not understand why Marek is leading a life where he is not happy. They clash on a lot of things which makes them different but they both learn to compromise and see from the others POV to better understand and help each other.
Marek runs hot and cold a lot and most readers will feel like he is annoying and a stuck-up but I sympathized with him the most. Marek was mostly scared of giving in to his true desires and has lived many years hiding and pretending to be someone he is not. He has worked hard at his job and is scared to rock the boat by standing up for himself or coming out of the closet. His breakup with Adrian was also the result of his fear which has pained him continuously throughout the years. Marek needed the support and love from Adrian to finally have the courage to be himself and Adrian is wonderful in providing it to him wholeheartedly.
This story is about second-chances, mostly in the case of Marek. His life changes 180 degree at the end and he is never been happier. He gets back the love of his life, he is finally free to express that love and lastly he has a career doing something he absolutely loved and enjoyed without any homophobic bigots to please. Marek goes through a complete life make-over with Adrian by his side and their HEA at the end could not have been more sweeter.
The romance here is the best kind of slow-burn there is. Adrian and Marek had a whole sack of issues to work through and along with it all, their attraction shimmers and sizzles at a low-flame and catches fire at the absolute perfect time in their relationship. I could not have hoped for a better conclusion.
The polish food is an important and integral part of this story. I have never tried Polish food before and so with each dish mentioned here I was going back and forth to Wikipedia to learn more about them in detail. After this book I just can’t wait to try them all. The Polish Pierogi looks just like a famous Bengali sweet dish (puli-pitha) we make here and I was very excited about this discovery. Have a look:
Pierogi
Puli Pitha
Looks similar right!!!
This book is a tantalizing slice of Poland which I relished with each and every page. It features a very sweet and fresh romance along with a profound experience of the country Poland. I congratulate the authors for crafting such a beautiful story which completely stole my heart. I am looking forward to my next trip to a new and amazing country through this amazing series!!!
‘I Love You More Than Pierogi’ is an entertaining, charming novella about two young men who get a second chance at love. The story is set in Warsaw, Poland. I lived in Warsaw for two years, although that is now quite some years ago, and I felt transported back. A lot of the little details ring so true and make this virtual visit very worthwhile for learning about the places, buildings, and streets of Warsaw alone. But what jumped out at me were the quirky characters and the mouth-watering descriptions of the food. As you can probably guess by now, I loved this brief visit to Warsaw and the people who live there! Anyone who is curious about how young people in Poland see the world and wants to learn more about how they think should read this story - just be ready to be famished at the end of it.

I think I hated almost everything about this book...but it was well-edited and such so I couldn't give it only one star.
Seriously, K.A. Merikan should just stick to the dark and gritty books because this was a hot mess. I'd compare it to one of those CW Teen Angst Dramas, but Polish. Only, that would be an insult to many of those CW shows that turned out to be pretty damned good.
I think maybe it's a cultural thing, too. IDK.
Just, I'mma need to bleach my brain of this whole endeavor by reading Heart Ripper: Coffin Nails MC. Soon. I've also decided that I'm done with books that have such detail focusing on making/prepping/eating food because *yawn*.
This book was a 100% nostalgia trip for me but I'm incredibly envious of those who will read about Warsaw as an unfamiliar place (even if in reality not that different from other European capitals). Apart from the cool setting it's just a great story with beautifully flawed characters, definitely recommended!
3.5 stars. I didn't like the MC characters. They are pretty annoying and immature towards each other. I didn't like how Adrian was so against Mareks job and how both of them keep trying to show each other they are better off. But then the plot and writing is really good. It's very sweet and I really love how food makes everything better. Marek is a designer in an advertising firm whereas Adrian is a food truck owner. Their personality was very different but somehow they just make it work and balance each other off.
Okay, first of all, the rating for this story started at 5* for me because (1) POLAND and (2) PIEROGI!!!!! I am glad to report nothing in the story made me rethink that rating! The MCs were brilliant, the plot engaging and the overall feel just right! Loved every minute with this one!
See, I know you are going to see this gif and rating and be confused. I went back and forth on an actual rating for this. While my heart was telling me no, my mind was saying be fair.
I had to think of everything outside of Marek. If it was based solely on him and his personality then I would have took my kindle outside and shot it. There was nothing about him I liked. Even at the end, nothing redeemable to me. I know some people are going to love this, I just wasn't one of them.
To be fair, the writing was good and solid. Adrian was a really good character, and I loved his spirit. I just didn't connect with either of them. I had issues with the way Marek treated Adrian, and how he acted in general. I had issues with Adrian just showing up unannounced after all these years and thinking that a conversation wasn't needed. Umm both guys needed a personality check and to be holed up in a room together to discuss their feelings.
Another reason for the rating is because I do think the authors gave some really good background facts on the culture and people of Poland. It could be a reason for my disconnect seeings as the romantic aspect played second fiddle in my opinion to the significance of where they are.
I'm left feeling like I didn't enjoy it but it would be unfair to rate it 1 star. It had good bones to the story. I just never connected with any part of it. I didn't care for any of the story, and after a while I really just wanted it to be over. It didn't work for me, and while I'm a little peeved by that, I know I'll read something else by these two in the future.
First off... I found myself Googling Polish food! Some of the dishes, I can't wait to give a try... others, not so much! ;D
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this story... it wasn't a "great" plot or it didn't invoke "great" emotion... but, it somehow catches your attention and holds it till the very end! Marek and Adrian (with an "a") share a past but haven't seen or heard from each other for over 5 years. Each had gone their own way in life... both trying to live their dreams! But, sometimes we get so caught up in our lives that we don't even realize that we missed out on the actual "dream" part. And that is where this story starts getting interesting! :D
Meh. Marek was kind of horrible for most of this book. After binge reading all 7 Guns and Boys Books this week, this was sort of like a palette cleanser. It might be that it would be fine if I hadn’t just read the nuanced and gritty before but since I did, this suffered in comparison. Ymmv, of course!
This was certainly a change from the K.A. Merikan books I’ve read in the past. I’ve focused mainly on their Guns N’ Boys series and their Coffin Nails MC series, both of which are quite brutal, dark and gritty. I didn’t get gritty from I Love You More Than Pierogi. I think this series will be much more fitting for some of the other reviewers at Love Bytes who really enjoy romantic stories.
Let’s talk about the story in this current installment. Marek comes across at first as kind of a self-centered jerk, focused on his career at the detriment of a personal life, any sort of social interactions, and even of an active sex life. One day he hears from his teenage boyfriend, Adrian, who has just come back to Poland after five years traveling to, and living in, exotic locales.
When Adrian asks to stay at Marek’s apartment, Marek instantly thinks it is about sex, but when that is proven incorrect, he goes into a sulk, and focuses even more of his time (if that was even possible) on his advertising career at a prestigious company. So what if his coworkers constantly tell homophobic and sexist jokes. If he just laughs along, he’ll be fine, right?
When Adrian approaches the company about helping with advertising and marketing his new Polish food truck idea, and he specifically asks the owner of the ad agency to assign Marek to the account, things get complicated.
I really enjoyed the story, even though it was a surprise to me. It was a kind of sweet, miscommunication, former lover type romance that I’m sure will play well with a lot of our readers. I recommend it if you are into those sweet type stories with a HEA. It is proof that these ladies can’t write a bad story. I might not personally have loved it as much as their darker and more gritty works, but it was good.
I really liked Adrian, and I had a good deal of sympathy for Marek. The culture is not conducive to being out, and he’s been so focused on making a good living that he’s actually sacrificed his social life. There’s brief mention that he actually sends money back to his family to help pay for his younger sisters’ education, and I’d have liked a little more detail on that. Adrian and Marek have time to make a new start—they are young. I really admired Adrian’s initiative and how he drew people to him, including Marek. The end is really something nice, with all the delicious angst and simmering sexual tension reaching a comfortable and well-deserved happy ending. It’s a short read, but a full story, and I really felt transported to contemporary Warsaw, with all it’s beautiful and ugly vistas. Adrian, a man who’s been away so long has a whole different perspective from that of Marek, who’s been a bit trod upon in the urban jungle. I liked how they reached an accord as friends, and later lovers. As this is a food book, I was seriously hungry by the end, though I was emotionally satisfied with the plot.
A very cute little romantic story. I loved the cooking. And the rekindling romance gradually over the course of the story was handled very well. The characters had solid development and chemistry. The Polish setting added a bit of interesting flavor, although not much...
The big let-down for me was the sex scene. It was way too long and boring. I skipped over a lot of it. But I think I would have given this 5 stars without the sex scene and since I can skip the sex scene... I don't think that should lower the rating. But warning... the only sex scene in this book is at the end and it goes on and on and on.
This was a second chance at love story between Marek and Adrian. Marek who let the love of his young adult life go for fear of being outed as gay gets a second chance at love when Adrian comes back into his life. The chemistry is still there but first they have to lean to live together.
*3.5 stars * It is a short story about second chances (not only in love). It is quite interesting, but not very believable in my opinion. MCs are okay, the writing style was good and I got sucked into Adrian and Marek's lives from the beginning.
