این کتاب گوشه ای از رویاهای زندگی دکتر آلبرت شوایتزر در گابون _مستعمره آفریقایی فرانسه_ در نخستین لحظات نخستین روز ماه اوت ۱۹۱۴ میباشد.
او نویسنده، دانشمند الهیات، فیلسوف طبیب جراح و موسیقی شناس بزرگ پس از عمری تلاش بشر دوستانه در بیمارستانی که خود بنیاد نهاده بود در گذشت.
او مردی بود که بعدها او را «بزرگترین قدیس عهد جدید» خواندند.

سراسر ماجرا در اتاق کار دکتر شوایتزر ، در بیمارستان " لامباره نه " در گابون آفریقا اتفاق میفتد.

Ladies and gentlemen, the first thing is to apologize for not being able to post today my review of "Elogio de la madrastra" by Mario Vargas Llosa (when this review was written the review of "Elogio de la madrastra" had ended, https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... but as on Friday of Lent I fasted from the internet I could not post it). I have "Restoration" by Rose Tremain 140 pages away from completing it https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (something, which was finally done on Thursday), and I want to start a more thoughtful book "The New Science" by Giambattista Vico https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... (the reading of this book began on Friday, after finishing the reading of "Belle de Jour" by Joseph Kessel https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... ). One of the key authors of the development of history as a social science before Leopold von Ranke https://www.goodreads.com/author/show..., and the historicists.
This play has been dedicated to Professor Manuel Alfonseca https://www.goodreads.com/author/show..., because it is one of his favorite plays, and finally there is a concordance, and agreement in our opinions. That the play had not started well because @edicionesencuentro that usually makes fabulous editions this time did not include any prologue about the author, and his work, and should have. Gilbert Cesbron was https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... known thanks to the beautiful book by Albino Luciani future John Paul I called "Ilustrisimos señores" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1..., and spoke of Cesbron as one of his favorite writers. Cesbron is one of these writers on Christian-social themes. Not as good as Maxence van der Meersch https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... (I never tired of recommending my favorite novel to Goodreads users which is "Bodies, and Souls" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...), but he is an absolutely necessary writer, who sought to bring the work of the Church where it was forbidden to the working class neighborhoods. They wanted to avoid the accusation launched by Leopoldo Alas Clarín https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... at the beginning of "La Regenta" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... in which he considered that the Church did not reach those areas. José Luis Martín Vigil https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... , and Cesbron are the living testimony that this is false. This is the four books I read to Cesbron https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9... (the last one is very interesting, because it fakes a false Marian apparition, to attract attention). In my opinion Cesbron's novels have not aged well. But in this play he is extraordinary, in fact, it is for me his best work (this review will be reviewed in four languages English, Spanish, French, and Polish).
This work tells the testimony of the Lutheran Albert Schweitzer https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... (a real personage, and one of the most beloved Christians of the twentieth century), and his work as a doctor in Africa. But it does not only tell us about the testimony of a real character. Also each character is a political allegory, and religious Carlos Ferrier (he is very inspired by Carlos Foucauld https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4..., and is a Catholic priest, who has not made any conversion, as happened to St. Charles de Foucauld in life), Mary is a nurse who does not know what to do with her life (in fact the natives call it the one that is not decided, and Albert Schweitzer the one who cuts well), and thinks that he has wasted it, having to decide. Hervé Lieuvin is the typical military hero in the style of Bojolois of the trilogy of P.C. Wren https://www.goodreads.com/series/1414... https://www.goodreads.com/author/show..., or Jean Larteguy https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... of the great colonization of the European bankman this time for civilizational purposes, and altruistic, and Leblanc embodies the politician, and statesman. Both Lieuvin and Leblanc will fight to see who conquers the heart of Nurse Maria.
Saving quite a few distances this play has reminded me of "Cocktail Party" by T.S. Eliot https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... https://www.goodreads.com/author/show..., and also reminded me of "Les Mediants les miracles" by Constantin Virgil Gheorghiu https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5... https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... that the Woke should read, so that they would not be manipulated so much. As in the work of the Anglo-Catholic writer (T.S. Eliot) a sacrifice will cause a change in the attitudes of the characters. The title also alludes to a moral dilemma, whether to follow the dictates of Natural Law, or Conscience, or follow secular governmental mandates as Pontius Pilate does (which makes this drama entirely Augustinian https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...). This play has something of "The Queen of Africa" by C.S. Forester https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4..., and with Mogambo https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4... (although the version of the year 30 is in Vietnam, and then John Ford placed it in Africa) also shares that it takes place in Africa for me this work is an antidote to Fred Zineman's film version of Story of a Nun https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... the reverse would be the Polish film Ida by Pawlikowski that tells us how despite adversity I remain firm in my religious vocation, which is exactly the opposite of Audrey Hepburn, who falls into a kind of worldliness.
This play also goes against the tide because, due to the anti-imperialism professed by authors such as Derrida https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... , and Said https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... . This work embodies a different facet, and is more in line with what Cardinal Robert Sarah thinks. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... about the great gift, which the West brought to Africa. Since the objective is not only to exploit the peoples, but to evangelize them, and try to improve their living conditions. Schweitzer and Ferrier will have to fight superstition, and sorcerers (something that recent ideologies from Marxism to Wokism often overlook). But, I think the worst enemies the characters will encounter are their inner demons particularly in the cases of Maria (who doesn't know what she's doing here, and won't find out until the end) Schweitzer who has resigned from the University, and a comfortable life with his family (wife, and daughter in Alsace) to cure the sick in Africa. It is not known whether it is remorse for treating that Jew badly, although I believe Ferrier is right, and it is love that leads Dr. Schweitzer to this sacrifice. Renouncing teaching, or a career as a musician enduring strenuous temperatures, and the tireless sound of Tam Tam. Ferrier is as if Foucauld had been transplanted to this work by a very dear priest former companion of Lieuvin in Saint Cyr, who wanted to fight for him, and who chose to exchange the army for the cross. He will clash with Lieuvin, because Hervé expected more achievements from Ferrier, but I believe that the salvation of his soul, and the reaction to his fate will be his greatest successes. Albert Schweitzer who is worried will try to get Lieuvin to help him so that he does not mortify himself with such harsh penances, and follow medical treatment (it should be said that Albert Schweitzer he is more activist, and more comfortable in the world than Ferrier, who pays more attention to the afterlife, which is eternal.) His biggest duel that of Lieuvin (and Schweizert also to a lesser extent, although they all end up clashing with Leblanc) will be with Leblanc, and fate will lead him to have to choose between his patriotic duty, or his happiness. Leblanc cannot say that he is the villain of the story, but he is the one with the most thankless role, since he embodies secular power. Leblanc would be what in D&D https://www.goodreads.com/genres/dung... (from the second to the fourth edition) we would call a neutral legal someone who abides by the rules, and follows them to the letter. He himself tells us that he feels displaced in the face of the heroism, and holiness of the previous Three characters. Sometimes he acts in good faith, when he wants to put an escort to Schweitzer, and Ferrier. Something they will reject because it would be the destruction of Ferrier's beliefs, and Schweitzer to preserve his life in exchange for renouncing his beliefs, and ideals, using violence to save himself. They know that martyrdom is an option, that it will be accepted by both of them differently. Of all the characters Leblanc as in "The Great Theater of the World" https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... He will be the only one who, by sticking to his duty, fails in his ordeal, and loses what matters most. While the other characters emerge triumphant from the test. Grandiloquent, epic dialogues, with a histrionic charge, and a strong existential charge. However, emotional, brilliant, and brings out the best of the reader, who will always carry in his memory the indelible memory of this magnificent drama. At the moment it is surpassing the Al "Gran Duque de Gandia" by Calderón de la Barca https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5... , and "Los pleiteantes" by Racine https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... the best play of this year, and one of the best plays I have read in my entire life. My grade is (5/5). Too bad it is not translated into English. That is why a prologue speaking to the reader of Gilbert Cesbron would have been important. داستانی ساده، ساده، ساده و ساده
داستانی ساده از آخرین بارقه های روشن و شفاف ارزش های انسانی- بی برچسب اخلاقی و فارغ از ارزش گذاری بر معیارهای‌شان- چرا که در آستانه ی عصر به قول دوستی؛ پساپست مدرنیسم هستیم، و دیگر اثری از آنها شاید نیابیم،
~ فریه؛ مرد کلیسا، مصمم در رعایت اصول اخلاقی و انسانیت با معیارهای عیسی مسیح اما فروتن «حتی اگر مسیح جز همان عیاری که شما گفتید نبوده باشد، همین که او را زده‌اند و محکومش کرده‌اند و به چارمیخش کشیده‌اند برای من کافی است: من او را که برادر بزرگ شوربختیم است در آغوش می‌گیرم...»
~ دکتر شوایتزر؛ دکتر فاوست نامش را می‌گذارم؛ «...از موسیقی دشت کشیده ام، از کرسی استادی دست کشیده ام، از هرچه دوست داشتم دست کشیدم، به زندگی پشت کردم که به اینجا برسم!...» «...سرزمین حق نشناسی که مدام باید همه چیز را توش از نو شروع کرد...»
از همین دو تن سخن گفتن کافیست، بیش از این بازگویی نمی‌کنم تا شیرینی اثر تلخ شود،
داستانی زیبا از فکرها و شورها
∆ اما چیزی که در این اثر مرا به شگفتی نرساند، شاید بیان شعرگونه که به ذهن شعار و تصنع را متبادر می نماید، بود.
البته ارزش را داشت، به دلیل ترجمه روان و شیرین شاملو، کاراکتر پردازی ها، تصویرسازی ها
و مهم تر از همه دیالوگ هایی که روح زمانه در آن فریاد می زند و قلب من از نزدیکی به زمان لحظه های نمایش و آن گفتگوها به تپش می افتد، درست زمانی که صحبت از جنگ است...

... شب از نیمه گذشته و نخستین لحظات اولین روز ماه اوت 1914 میلادی آغاز شده است. در یکی از مستعمره‌های آفریقایی فرانسه و در دفتر بیمارستانی که خوابگاه‌هایش از تنه درختان ساخته شده و بام آن را به نی و برگ‌های پهن و بلند پوشانده‌اند، مردی که در نور نیم‌رنگ چراغ‌های نفت‌سوز سرگرم نواختن پیانو است به صدای زنی که می‌گوید: نصف شب است دیگر دکتر! دست از نواختن بر می‌دارد.
او کسی نیست جز "آلبرت شوایتزر " نویسنده دانشمند الهیات فیلسوف طبیب جراح و موسیقی شناس بزرگ که در سال 1875 میلادی زاده شده و به سال 1965 میلادی پس از عمری تلاش بشردوستانه در بیمارستانی که خود بنیاد نهاده بود در گذشت .
این کتاب گوشه ای از رویاهای زندگی او را در نمایشنامه ای از "ژیلبر سسبرن " نویسنده فرانسوی روایت می کند .

این نمایشنامه ۲۰۴ صفحه‌ای را ۲۶ سال پیش در اوایل اسفند ماه سال ۱۳۶۸ خوانده‌ام و حالا بعد از گذشت این همه سال طبیعتاً آن طور که باید نمی‌توانم در مورد آن نظر بدهم. قسمت‌هائی از متن نمایشنامه را که موقع خواندن آن برایم جالب بودند، برایتان می‌نویسم. برای من تجدید خاطره است
ص۲۰ - شوایتزر: باید چیزهای غیرمنتظر را پیشاپیش دوست داشت. یک روز صورتی تو چارچوب در نمایان می‌شود یا کتابی به دست‌تان می‌افتد یا صدای ناشناسی را می‌شنوید و زندگی‌تان یکهو معنی خودش را پیدا می‌کند
ص۲۱ - شوایتزر: هر زندگی بزرگی بر اثر یک تصادف بزرگ به وجود آمده
ص۳۹ - پدر شارل: غرور انسان در این است که شوق متکامل شدن داشته باشد

در (گابون) مستعمره‌ی آفریقایی فرانسهٰ در دفتر بیمارستانی سر هم بندی شده که خوابگاه‌هایش را از تنه‌ی درختان ساخته، مردی که در نور نیم‌رنگ چراغ‌های نفت‌سوز سرگرم نواختن پیانو است، به صدای زنی که می‌گوید(نصف شب است دیگر، دکتر شوایتزر) دست از نواختن بر می‌دارد. اما همان دم از اعماق ظلمتٰ اخطاری که با طبل بدوی مخابره می‌شود به گوش می‌آید : کودک بیماری در راه بیمارستان است

المسرحية التي تمنيت لو أنني لم أنهيها
حواراتها عميقة ، هي سياسية في المظهر، لكنني شعرت أنها ليست سياسية أبداً
كلـ شخصية مستقلو بتفكيرها استقلال تاامـ
لم أستطع الوقوف مع أي شخص، حتى الطبيب رغم أن تركيبة شخصية من النوع الذي يستهويني
لكنني وقفت جانب الحياد، متطلعة لأفكار الشخصيات و مبادئهاآ حول العديد من القضايا
و على رأسها الحربـ ، ذلك الشيء الذي لم يُفهم بعد، و لن يُفهم أبداً

كم أكره بشدة الشعور بالتفوق الذي لدي البيض تجاه السود.. تلك الفكرة المستفزة و المهينة على حد سواء أن البيض هم رسل العلم و التقدم و المدنية و أن السود هم زبانية الجحيم و الشر و بالتالي فدور الرجل الأبيض هو انتشال الرجل الأسود من مستنقع الجهل و براثين الفساد..
هذه الصورة المستفزة هى العماد الذي يقوم عليه بناء الإستعمار الغربي.. فالرجل الأبيض لم يأت لأفريقيا لنهب ثرواتها الطبيعية و استعباد الأفارقة .. و لكنه جاء لنشر الحضارة في أفريقيا..
و بعد عشرات السنين من احتلال افريقيا هل تم نشر الحضارة فيها؟ أم تم نهبها؟!

المسرحية تحوى هذه الفكرة المثيرة للقيء.. البطل طبيب أوروبي جاء إلى أفريقيا لأنه يعرف بإحتياج أهلها للطب.. و يظل يذكرنا -هو و كل الأوروبين معه- طوال المسرحية أنه قد ضحى بحياة سعيدة و هائنة في بلده الأصلي و جاء إلى هنا بكامل اختياره لأنه يدرك حاجة الأفارقة للعلاج..
حسنا... كون أي شخص قد جاء إلى افريقيا لمساعدة أهلها فهذا شيء لا يستحق لا الشكر و لا الفخر!.. لا يستحق الشكر لأنه لا أحد قد طلب منه هذا.. هو فعل هذا بكامل إرادته. و إذا كانت هذه إرادته فلماذا "يمن" علينا كل لحظة بتذكرينا بهذا؟!!!
و كذلك هو أمر لا يستحق الفخر.. فهو لم يأت وحده.. بل أتي مع جيش بلاده يستغل البلاد و العباد..
لكن لماذا نلوم الأجانب و هذه العقلية هى العقلية المنتشرة حتى في بلادنا بين أفراد الطبقة الغنية؟!!
أقصد عقلية "الأعمال الخيرية" هذي التي يظنها الأغنياء وسيلة لغسل صورتهم القميئة و جعلهم يظهرون بمظهر ملائكة الرحمة.. فقط لمجرد أن احدهم تبرع بعدة جنيهات فيظن أنه أدى ما عليه مثلما يظن الطبيب انه بمعالجة عدة مرضى فقد قدم خدمات جليلة للبشرية!
لكن هل حاول الطبيب وعشيرته نشر "الطب" نفسه؟! هل حاول الغرب منح أفريقيا العلم بدلا من الاكتفاء فقط بتطبيقاته؟؟!! الإجابة معرفة تماما..

آخر کتاب نشونه های مختلفی که تو متن بودن به هم مرتبط میشن که خیلی جالبه.
موضوع نمایش راجع به آدمهای عملگراست، واسه همین شاید کسایی که اینطوری نیستن خیلی خوششون نیاد از کتاب

La mia edizione (un Oscar Mondadori del 1967) contiene anche il testo teatrale "La Statua in frantumi". Non c'è dubbio, però, per me, che il migliore fra i due sia sicuramente "È mezzanotte dottor Schweitzer": un testo che forse sarebbe molto utile riscoprire oggi, non solo per ricordare un premio Nobel per la pace (Albert Schweitzer, appunto), ma per i venti di guerra che soffiano da più parti in questo periodo. "È mezzanotte dottor Schweitzer", infatti, si connota per essere un testo di profonda umanità, pieno di altissimi valori e di una morale che mi pare di poter dire attuale ancora oggi - ma privo di moralismi. Lo sguardo di Gilbert Cesbron (dallo stile davvero invidiabile, che forse meriterebbe di essere riscoperto), quello cioè di un buon cristiano convinto, si poggia inesorabilmente sugli ultimi, sulla miseria, sulle difficoltà del mondo a lui contemporaneo - ma che sono comuni a ogni tempo - con trasporto, commozione, tenerezza, sincerità, con l'intento, in definitiva, di «evocare la morale senza essere moralista», come affermava lui stesso.
Una bella scoperta...

Je lis très rarement de théâtre mais là je suis étonnement choqué à quel point j'ai pris plaisir à le lire ! Carrément je l'ai fini en un jour !! Ce qui est très rare pour moi qui prends toujours beaucoup de temps à lire un livre. Sinon j'ai beaucoup aimé car il traite des sujets intéressants comme la mort, la guerre, l'amour, le bonheur ou encore la religion..belle découverte merci maman

شوایتزر: هیچ‌وقت زیر بار نرفتم که حتما باید آدم معقولی باشم!
شوایتزر: راستش، موقعی که جسم انسان‌ها این‌جور اسیر چنگال فلاکت و شوربختی است؛ خیلی شجاعت می‌خواهد که آدم اول به فکر نجات روح‌شان باشد. از من یکی چنین برنمی‌آید.

پدر شارل: ضعف من به من نیرو می‌بخشد.
پدرشارل: از قول من به‌اش بگوئید برایش دعا می‌کنم... نه، دعا نه، بگوئید به او و روحش ((فکر)) می‌کنم...

از اون کتاب‌هایی که اگه تو دبیرستان می‌خوندم حال می‌کردم، اما الان یه خرده کلیشه‌ای اومد به نظرم. نمایشگاه پارسال به خاطر اسم شاملو خریدمش و البته قیمت‌اش که 500 تومن بود‌!
