Ling Xiao was secretly in love with a girl named Mo Qi; because of an accident, they both crossed into the ancient times.
Mo Qi who was preinstalled with the Mary Sue halo, in these ancient times, walked to the summit with a golden finger.
However, Ling Xiao continued to be exploited by Mo Qi.
After he no longer had any values to exploit, he soon became a pitiful cannon fodder.
The heavens decided to take pity on Ling Xiao.
And gave Ling Xiao an opportunity for rebirth.
After rebirth, he vowed that all his enemies would repay him with a debt of blood!
However, why have all these enemies of his, fallen into the mode of cutting their heads open?
“Hey, are you really that unremarkable person who used to follow behind Mo Qi?”
“So this dance was originally danced by you, sigh……”
“You are obviously a man, yet you move me so much.”
“Enough! Since you have taken the initiative to provoke me, then you must concentrate on me!”
Ling Xiao expressed: If you want to counterattack, then counterattack. As long as your golden finger is bigger than Mo Qi’s.
But how did Mo Qi’s Mary Sue halo end up in his body! He is still a straight man who likes beauties! He definitely, definitely doesn’t want to turn bent!
It was nerve-wrecking reading this story. MC was on edge against ML at all time. It was to the point that I just wanted MC to die to end all that tension. If one was truly afraid of another, was that true love? It's like I was reading a domestic violence story rather than a story about MC getting his revenge against everyone that wronged him in his past life. The plot was good though and you can see that the writer planned it all out instead of just going with the flow. But, for the life of me, I couldn't accept ML no matter what.
Ultimately the story was simple, but it was very well rounded, with clever writing and a colorful atmosphere. The characters were deep and believable, and I could really feel their tension and struggles! I loved that it's a story of revenge but the main character isn't too overpowered and omnipotent. Reading this story felt do refreshing! I definitely recommend it!
Honestly speaking, this was quite a pointless novel. It didn't really provoke my emotions, nor was the story anything significant. In fact, the plot got me quite annoyed because of the lack of response or depth from the characters in their respective situations.
But this was also the first danmei that gave me second lead syndrome and had me enjoying the protagonist's relationship with the side characters. It was a stupid light read novel, and despite not being as hooked as I hoped to be, I did manage to binge it and did not get bored.
It tested my patience in various ways, and I RESISTED ( don't know how I just did it ). I've been asking myself a question : do all danmei readers encourage engaging in toxic relationships over healthy ones if that person is hella rich ??
You couldn't imagine the amount of reviews and recommendations for this trashy novel *sigh* anyway, good to know the various taste of people 🤷🏻♂️
Why are all these stories so different from the blurb? It’s not as lighthearted or as funny as you’d think. The core is about Ling Xiao’s rebirth and getting his revenge on his ex-crush/killer. Ling Xiao is positively vicious with his revenge, the “funny” bits are how embarrassing some of his schemes are for Mo Qi. He’s also quick witted and very sharp tongued in the palace. It’s very different from those naive/sweet or lovable MCs. The ml is the typical possessive/ruthless type . Their romance was abit slow initially. I especially liked after a while in their relationship, how the Mc tried to canoodle his way out of trouble. Also I liked that the plot broadened later on. I think there’s only so much revenge one can read about before it gets stale. 3.85 stars It was a nice read.
Recommended as a one time read. The MC is a sweetheart even when he tries to hide his fears in front of the emperor. He carried this story making it very funny and easy to read.
The ML is one of the most dominant leaders I have read about. He is written so that the atmosphere around him radiates supremacy. No one is above him. No one can defy him. An arrogant modern CEO is a puppy compared to this ruler because the author gives little insight into the thoughts of this decisive emperor. We can only judge the intent of the emperor by his actions. So, the reader feels the teeth chattering tension when the MC is in the presence of the emperor. It is excruciating, yet, exciting throughout most of this short story. This tension allows the reader to see the MC as the long tail cat in the rocking chair factory, i.e., constantly skipping to maintain limb and life in the palace where a wrong word or wrong action can quickly end one’s life. This anxiety is the best written part of the short story.
The romance is more domineering than a typical light hearted romance. This makes the reader truly wonder if there is real attraction between the characters or just compliance caused by repetitive bullying and intimidation where coercive tactics are used by an authority figure over his subordinate. So, true romance is slow to develop. A little too slow for me.
Too many secondary characters come and go and come back too often for a story this short. Like un-killable cockroaches, they cause closed sub plots to revive without adding much value to the storyline.
I would read this again, one time only, to read the interactions between the emperor and the MC.
This was pretty cute! I don't think the emperor had the best characterization, he was always either cold, angry or internally infatuated. Not much dimension there. I liked that Ling Xiao immediately threw Mo Qi under the bus but then it also felt like that conflict ended rather quickly. Ling Xiao also never even really questioned his feelings for the emperor or his sexuality and just seemed to go with the flow so there was also a lack of conflict there that could have been interesting.
Summary: Ling Xiao loved Mo Qi and helped her become an empress only to have her poison him once he wasn't useful anymore. Ling Xiao gets to relive his past life with his memories from before and decides he wants to kill Mo Qi and get protection from the emperor. The emperor thinks Ling Xiao's in love with him and Ling Xiao has to fend off the emperor while still trying to get Mo Qi killed.
The books is quite good. Not the best, but quite nice to read.
It’s an easy read with fluff and some cute moment, not much of drama. It’s quite short so I was not bored reading it. In this novel - size is just fine. Not too long and not too short.
I can’t say I see the development of MC, but there is a big amount of changes in the ML line of behavior.
The world itself was a little too plastic, characters doesn’t feel very real. The one who touched my heart was the General, after he new the truth. Here we have a big development of character. I really like how his story went, hope he will be happy.
In conclusion, I recommend to give it a go. This novel is for you, if you search for nice, not too sad but not too difficult story. A light and short read and will entertain you quite enough. Not the best one, but better than mediocre.
Fun read, however it tipped the line between reborn revenge story and palace politics without really committing to one. The revenge plot only lasted about 20-30% of story and was easily resolved by the male lead.
Most of the story was more focused on the ML chasing MC and MC slowly falling in love. They try to be a bit more realistic with the palace politics especially in the middle of the story, but a lot of it ends up being brushed aside as “ML/the emperor is obsessed with MC so politics can be bent/ignored for him”.
Realistically would give this a 3.5, but since no half stars I’m keeping it at 4 stars since it was a fun read and filled that guilty pleasure read craving.
The MC gets reborn, wanted revenge, but somehow ends up catching the emperor’s eye instead. MC was straight but has no choice but to be a bottom because, well, staying alive beats execution. He eventually manages to escape, only to receive a marriage proposal from a prince who becomes obsessed after witnessing his dance moves. This MC is out here collecting men left and right just by existing.
I liked this danmei because MC was very sensible. He would scheme, but also knew his limits. I loved how he made the other love interest fall for him. Very nice read.
This story is not too bad. MC is smart, ML is cool and cold, the plots builds gradually and there are a few of funny awkward moments. This is a slow romance and the characters won’t suddenly fall in love. It’s just not that remarkable in my opinion. In a week I will already have forgotten this novel.
