Harper Rose is a billionaire heiress and the PR Queen of New York. The only problem is she is unlucky in love. After another failed relationship, she decides to give up on dating and heads to The Paradise Club Resort to heal. Unexpectedly, she runs into Felix St. Pierre, the much younger, tattooed, ice hockey bad boy, and they hit it off instantly.
Don’t they say to get over someone, you have to get under someone else?
Felix St. Pierre is a hockey superstar whose personal life has imploded after his girlfriend left him for his teammate. Broken-hearted, he fills the void with puck bunnies and partying, which lands him front and center in the news and in a heap of trouble. To avoid the spotlight and nurse his broken heart, he escapes to The Paradise Club Resort. What he wasn’t expecting was to run into a gorgeous, captivating Harper Rose.
What happens in Paradise is supposed to stay in Paradise.
When the tabloids find out about their vacation and report to the world that they are dating, the internet explodes with the news as does her ex, and that’s when his threats start coming. Felix doesn’t want what happened in Paradise to end and suggests they should fake-date for the summer to make her ex back off. Harper isn’t keen on the idea until her ex gives her a reason to accept his help.
The only problem is when the summer is over, and the lines between fake and real have started to blur, will they take a shot on goal, or will they end up in the end zone?
"JA Low lives on a faraway beach in Australia. When she's not writing steamy scenes and admiring hot surfers, she's tending to her husband and two sons, and dreaming up the next epic romance."
Fake dating, forced proximity, and a cocky but ridiculously sweet hockey player? Love on Ice had me hooked from page one! Felix St. Pierre is all charm and trouble, and Harper Rose is not looking for romance—until their instant connection turns into something neither of them can ignore. What starts as a carefree escape quickly spirals into a high-stakes situation, blurring every line they swore they wouldn’t cross.
Felix falls fast and hard, and honestly? It’s impossible not to swoon over him. Harper is fierce, independent, and used to keeping her guard up, but Felix? He sees right through it. Their chemistry is electric, their banter is perfection, and the tension? Unreal.
I loved this book and can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on it! If you’re a fan of fake dating, hockey romance, and a hero who adores his leading lady, Love on Ice needs to be on your radar!
Wow, I was not expecting them to start off with being non exclusive friends with benefits. I usually love my book men to be extremely possessive and loyal. However, in this book I kind of actually enjoyed those scenes. It was different and it was done in a way that was tasteful. The characters literally just meet at a resort meant solely for fooling around and want to have fun after getting their hearts broken. They both communicate that they think they’d never date each other because of circumstances so they enjoy each other on the resort while having fun with others and sometimes in the presence of each other.
Once they leave the resort and a certain situation arises, they decide to fake date which then turns into dating for real for the summer where they chose to be exclusive and are possessive of each other. They don’t share and are committed to one another.
I loved seeing their relationship evolve from friends who just clicked, to developing feelings for one another the more time they spent together. Felix showed Harper that not all men are cheating trash.
I will say that there were a fair few side characters which were hard to keep up with. I got some information about them confused or wasn’t given any leaving me clueless to their relationship with the main characters.
If you want to read something that is different from your typical hockey player, fake dating, reverse age gap romance, I’d say to give this one a go.
Rating: 3.5/5 🌟 Spice: 4/5 🌶️ Characters: Harper and Felix
This is my first time reading J.A. Low and had a good time with it! Felix is a professional hockey player and has just been transferred. He has also just found out that his girlfriend and best friend have been cheating behind his back. The betrayal hits him hard, and he starts acting out a bit. Harper is a bit older, rich, confident, and has also just caught her boyfriend cheating on her.
They both end up at Paradise Island to get away from everything. They meet on the boat there and are immediately drawn to each other. Felix develops a quick crush, and Harper feels like she needs to help him enjoy what the island has to offer on his first trip there. They definitely make the most of that trip together and with others on the island. Once they return home their friends with benefits arrangement is turned into a fake dating arrangement for reasons. It's a bit of a whirlwind from there.
I had a little bit of a hard time with Harper. I loved that she was so s*x positive and confident, but her stubbornness was a bit frustrating sometimes. I also really liked Felix, he's incredibly sweet and all about her happiness. I did struggle a little bit with the development of the relationship. But I think that might be a me thing or a timing issue. I went into this only really knowing the tropes. It's way steamier than I was expecting. That's not a bad thing at all. I think I just went into this with a different idea, and it sort of warped my reading experience. Again, this feels like it was a me thing and a timing thing. I read it when I was in a different sort of mood. The story is fun, the characters are well developed, and the relationship was sweet. I'll definitely read more by the author now that I know what to expect.
I absolutely love when books connect from other worlds! Paradise is an absolute favorite of mine, so I was so excited for this one! Felix and Harper have instant chemistry. When it turns out they run in some of the same circles on their way to Paradise they decide - what happens at Paradise stays at Paradise.. or does it? Their relationship starts off slowly with them being friends and playing and turns into so much more. Throw in some drama and it’s such a wild ride, I can’t wait for more from this series, I just know it’ll be another one of my favs.
We are headed back to the Paradise Club! Add in the hockey romance trope and we are in for a fun ride!
🖤Billionaire romance 🖤Hockey romance 🖤Reverse age gap 🖤Fake dating 🖤Forced proximity 🖤Vacation fling turned more
Harper is a well known billionaire who has the worst luck with men. And after her last relationship ends, she decides to go to the Paradise Club to blow off some steam for a week. She doesn't expect to form an unlikely friends with benefits situation. What happens at the Paradise Club, stays at the Paradise Club.
Until real life happens and these two are forced together once again.
I loved both of these characters individually and together - Harper is a s3x positive female and I loved that about her. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. Felix is a cinnamon roll with a filthy mouth who also goes after what he wants. And for all intents and purposes, Harper is exactly what he wants.
Can't wait to see where we are headed next in this series!
Harper has sworn off dating after catching yet another boyfriend cheating on her. Felix has been told off by his agent for being a playboy to the point of ruining his image after catching his own girlfriend cheating with a fellow team member. His agent sends him away to a private sex club island to let off some steam, where he crosses paths with Harper doing the same thing. Together, they decide to have no-strings attached fun and see where that takes them.
***** This started off as a more erotica-heavy novel that leaned deeply into the sex-positive atmosphere of their tropical pleasure island. It was okay, with some more awkward dialogue, and some weird instances of calling hockey "ice hockey" repeatedly, along with some consistency issues, but nothing too drastic to fully pull me out of the novel.
As we started to get into the meat of the story, everything kind of went sideways. Both of the characters seemed a lot mentally younger than their late 20's/early 30's ages were set to be. There was immaturity and emotional hangups that were surprising and didn't seem to fit the characters' ages at all. Harper was incredibly dramatic, stubborn, and oddly held up on an age gap that wasn't that big. There were also very long run-on monologues in each characters head with them arguing and talking back to themselves, and it was a format that didn't seem to work within the rest of the novel.
Then we get to around the mid-point when other characters begin being a heavier part of the plot, and it all kind of fell apart. There were so many storylines with cheating. I think five different couple groupings in all? Which just started to feel ridiculous and overdone. There was external meddling, back stories everywhere, some deep stalker trauma with side characters, constant conflict, time jumps, and location jumps that everything felt either too slow or skipped over. Conflict with Felix's ex was resolved fully through tell and not show, and conflict with Harpers ex was so illogically resolved that I ended up a bit baffled. We also get side characters' conflicts resolved off page as well, minus one, which seems to lead into the next storyline. It all felt like a very rushed ending with too much not actually shown and overly uneven pacing.
Also, as a Canadian, It also was kind of odd to see the Canadian stereotype of being mindlessly nice and helpful employed that heavily throughout the novel. It was funny at first, but it started to drag on me with how often it was brought up.
Otherwise, it was an okay novel, but it felt like the author tried to add too many storylines and too many characters at once for depth, which ended up doing the opposite.
*****
Thank you to The Author Agency for the digital ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
THE SPICE RIGHT OFF THE HOCKEY STICK ?! (See what I did there? 😉)
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
I have to admit color me intrigued by this Pleasure island concept Harper and Felix both end up at after both find themselves in cheating exes and both with high profile lives. Even though I knew the minute these two locked eyes, things were going to happen, physically & emotionally, I mean…he’s a hockey player with six pack abs, who would say no to that?! *cricket sounds* Right, anyway the little pleasure land guide role Harper gave herself for Felix’ first time to the island was cute but there was no way those lines weren’t going to be blurred. I enjoyed watching Felix get pulled out of this hardass, playboy exterior persona of a hockey player and become this soft golden retriever and show Harper what a real man is after her string of, excuse my language, shitty ass cheating boyfriends. To watch Felix act like he was okay with this “summer only” friends fling agreement was painful to watch knowing this man was falling in love with her. Now onto Harper, girl, I wanted to shake her silly every time she brought up this 7 year age difference. Like miss ma’am, you have a hockey player drooling and worshipping you at your feet and the age is what we’re worrying about?!? Eventually my girl gets it through her head that this man has worked his way into her heart and broken every wall of glass she’s got surrounding her and I was left jumping on my bed cheering for this revelation. I am so grateful that this is just the first book of this series because I can already tell I will be as equally obsessed with the rest of the series….now give me a book about Issy and Pierre because those two need a comeback story.

I can never pass up a Hockey Romance, so was happy to get this ARC from @theauthor.agency and @jalowbooks in exchange for my honest review.
Smut doesn’t bother me in books; however, having Harper and Felix meet at a sex island wasn’t really for me. (Almost DNF) Neither one of them were players but their high profile lives made it impossible to have random sex without it being plastered all over. Harper a PR Rep and Felix a Professional Hockey Player. I didn’t love the Island but I truly liked the characters and Felix was such a charmer. I hung in there and finished this book and dare I say I loved it. Harper and Felix enjoyed their time together on the island but Harper was adamant when they got back they couldn’t be together- he was too young for her and she couldn’t get her heart broken again but then their photo is plastered in newspapers as the end up in a bit of a compromising kiss and for their reputations they decide to fake date for the summer. What could possibly go wrong? Will the lines be crossed or will they go their separate ways at the end of the summer?
Oh my, this book was extra spicy!! I could not put it down, wanting to know what scene was coming next.
Harper is a billionaire PR boss and she’s good at what she does. Only thing, she attracts loser boyfriend who end up cheating on her and making her question her worth. Harper takes care of the people cares about. She an amazing friend and family member.
Felix has been cheated on and turned into a bad boy afterwards, burying himself in drinking and puck bunnies. But deep down, Felix is a good guy and has a huge heart.
Issy ends up sending the two to Paradise Island at the same time. Harper has been there several times, but this is Felix’s first. Harper agrees to be his tour guide. It is steamy and spicy! Whew the scenes that play out will get you a bit hot and bothered.
I loved reading these twos story. They have amazing chemistry and banter. Everyone can see the spark between them, but Issy is scared because she is older and her past relationships.
Love on Ice is a strangers to friends-with-benefits to lovers story between Harper Rose, an independent, boss babe PR CEO and Felix St. Pierre, a younger hockey player from LA, recently traded to NY. Both were cheated on by their ex’s and decided to take a “break from life” vacation. They ended up meeting on Paradise Island, an ultra exclusive, secluded smex club-island. They got together for some no-strings super smexy fun. (However, that’s where the spice kind of ends.)
Back in the real world, they decided to help each other with their ex-partners. Harper went into PR mode to take care of the idle threats Felix’s manipulative ex threw at him. Harper’s ex, Josh, started giving off creepy, stalker vibes so Felix and Harper agreed to fake date (with a side of “benefits”) to keep him away. And, as always with fake dating, feelings started to develop.
I really enjoyed the character of Felix, and truly felt for him during his crazy, cheating scandal. I absolutely loved seeing the characters of the other books and knowing that Love on Ice was following the same timeline. And while I did admire her boss babe attitude, I could not relate to Harper. I thought her focus on their age gap was silly and I truly didn’t understand why she made some of the decisions she made.
There wasn’t a lot of depth to the plot, but any book with Paradise Club action is a guaranteed fun and spicy read! (You want a wake up call by a mouth on your nether regions? You got it!) This book will be a great read for the right audience; for me, it was just missing something.
Note: I’ve read several of JA Low’s books before, starting with Dirty Texas Rockstars, Playboys of New York, and The Paradise Club and LOVED them!
This is the first in a new series, and this is Felix and Harper’s story. Harper is a billionaire heiress, an PR queen of New York, but finds herself unlucky in love, while Felix is a tattooed superstar hockey play. Both suffering broken hearts, they connect at Paradise Resort, and the sparks fly. This is a well written story which is easy to read, with action, fake dating, forced proximity, drama, emotions, reverse age gap, insecurities, undeniable chemistry, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining, spicy, and fun addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
I always get a kick out of reverse age gap stories & this one did not disappoint. The couple meet on their way to a swinger’s resort & hit it off. The spice in this book is off the charts. I’m also a sucker for a fake dating storyline, so when they realize they need to “date” each other to protect their reputations, you know it’s going to eventually end up in happily ever after. Felix is a charmer & who doesn’t love a guy that falls first? This book is fun, easy to read & a great afternoon escape.
Love on ice by JA Low 🌶️: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ *Rating: 5/5 *Billionaire *Age gap *Hockey player *Cheating *Socialite world *Golden retriever vibes
This is one of my most favorite fast paced readings, easy to understand, the level of spice was incredible, I enjoyed every chapter.
Harper gets cheated on by her boyfriend of 2 years, to get over the breakup she decides to take a vacation to The Paradise Club Resort, where she casually meets Felix a hot hockey player who happens to be one of Harpers best friends’ client. They, been in a similar emotional situation, click on and decide to have fun together and enjoy their stay without worrying about the outside world. Even though they tried to leave behind what happened in paradise, life puts them in a situation where they could not stay away from each other.
I like how independent Harper is how she wants to take control of the situation and Felix for knowing and understanding how she really feels without her having to explain to him, his patience and his care is what got me… can I have a Felix please?
* I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
I haven't read anything by JA Low before now, so I wasn't sure what to expect I really enjoyed this book so much. SO SO SO spicy, so much chemistry between Felix and Harper, they both healed each other from their past trauma. This is set up to be a great series and I cannot wait for the next one!
Love the spice in all JA Low books. And this one brought it again and again 🔥🤪
Overall really enjoyed this book. The characters had great chemistry and fit well with each other. I was a bit disappointed we didn’t get more hockey though but hopefully in the next book of the series.
Okay, I REALLY liked this book. The reverse age gap, the spice, hockey player/ billionaire. Allllll of it. I can not wait for the next book. Thank you to the author and LoveNotes PR for the ARC
Book 1 in the Manhatten Mavericks series, Love on ICE is a fake dating, hockey romance. Our MMC Felix and FMC Harper are both on cheated on by their significant others, both end up at a sex club Island courtesy of Issy, who not only is Harper's friend but is Felix's agent. They both go through so much but have a happy ending and it's perfect!.
Thankyou Greys Promotions and to The Author Agency for the opportunity to read review this amazing book
A new series by jess The Manhattan Mavicks this is a hockey romance.
I LOVED IT Haper rose get her book and her story was one fantastic read she has had a nightmare with relationships and her latest one ends the same been cheating on so she takes her self off to Pardise 🥵 where she meets a hot fit Hockey player who is looking for a distraction as he has been cheated on.
It’s so hard to write a review without giving to much away these two are so hot together if I read on paper it would of burnt my hands, Jess has wrote this perfectly and I’m so happy we went back to the paradise island🥵.
It was great to meet new characters Medow and Issy but i smiling like a Cheshire Cat here as we get to see the Taylor brother Nate and SAM ROSE again and the beauitful Kimberly.
I honestly could read this book again as it was that good
Felix and Harper are a hot addition to my library!
Honestly, can Author JA Low write books that get any hotter?? Her Paradise series was eye-opening and when you're reading a book where the couple are at the Paradise Island Resort, you know your eyes will be standing out like organ stops! 👀👀 LOVE ON ICE was a book that once started, I couldn't put down. I resented every life-y moment that came between me and my reading ... erm ... pleasure. And there was plenty of pleasure going on in that thar book!
LOVE ON ICE is the first in Ms Low's Manhattan Mavericks Hockey series and while Felix St. Pierre is an introduced character, Harper and the other secondary characters have been mentioned in previously written series. I'm someone who absolutely adores finding previous character corrections, almost like Easter Eggs, but I have to stress that each book stands along on its own merits.
Partnered together are favourite trope loves; Sports and the older woman/younger man romance, and Ms Low wrote such amazing chemistry between Harper and Pierre that the instant attraction was believable. These two outwardly confidence people had inner vulnerabilities and recent betrayals, so while Felix could feel Harper's desire, he couldn't believe that such an amazing woman would even look halfway at him. Hell’s teeth, surely seven years wasn't ‘that' much really!! And Harper felt the same in reverse. Everything about their instant attraction and developing relationship was a ... pleasure to read.
I've long loved reading everything Ms Low has written and in true form, she not only comes in hot, but the witty banter and girthy collection of characters really keeps reading interest high. The bromance between Harper's brother Sam and Felix, for example, was so cute and adorable if two hot guys can be called adorable. Sam was invested in the state of Harper's romance because there was no way he wanted to lose his new running and exercising buddy!
I've already said that a lot of the secondary characters have been mentioned in previous series, so I felt I was catching up with old friends are want to re-visit their books. Some we have yet (hopefully) to read more about, but all I can say now is that LOVE ON ICE is a must-read-romance for who enjoy their reads hot, witty and fast-paced. Younger sports stars and sexy confident older woman add massively to the enjoyment. In all seriousness though, if you have loved this book, I enthusiastically recommend you check out Author JA Low's Paradise series or if Rockers are your thing, start at the beginning of everything as I did with her re-vamped Dirty Texas series. I promise you that you won’t be disappointed!!!
LOVE ON ICE is a book that I can easily say it's guaranteed as great reading at 5-hot-hockey-puck-Stars🏒
Love on Ice is JA Low’s latest hockey romance novel that comes out on February 12th.
I love a good hockey romance, and this is a fun, sexy read. The hockey theme is not super prominent as the majority of this book takes place in the off-season. New York billionaire heiress (who is also the PR girl-boss of the city) Harper Rose escapes to Paradise Island after a nasty break-up. She meets Felix St. Pierre- the tattooed, hottie, bad-boy hockey superstar, who is also headed to the island to nurse his own post-break-up wounds. Harper is no stranger to the island and the unique experience it offers, but Felix is a newbie. She takes him under her wing and offers to help him get acclimated-Paradise Island is an all-out fantasy world where your wildest fantasies and desires can be fulfilled in an instant. The spice comes early and it’s pretty explosive between Harper and Felix…and others mixed in!
Though they have extremely strong chemistry, Harper makes it clear that whatever happens on the island stays on the island. Felix agrees, but falls hard and fast for her anyway, despite their agreement. Upon their return home, Harper’s ex is waiting to confront her at her house, and Felix quickly goes into protective mode. He offers to stay with Harper and be her fake boyfriend to get her ex off her back and out of her life. They agree to fake date, but JUST until summer ends as he will leave for training camp then and because this was a vacation fling, not something that is supposed to last or turn serious. There is a push-pull throughout the story of “what are we doing?”, “I am too old for him, we are at different stages of our lives”, and “I like this, I like him/her, this is only temporary”. Felix is a sexy protective sweetheart and he worships the ground Harper walks on. I love reading books with a good-hearted MMC. Harper was sweet too, I was glad she wasn’t one of those FMCs who is a total bitch to the man who is doing everything in his power to keep her safe, loved and satisfied.
Love on Ice is book one in the Manhattan Mavericks series, however, there were several references to supporting characters and events that happened prior, so I googled to see if there was a previous book I should have read, and it looks like there are two series by the author that came before that are related- Dirty Texas and Paradise Club series. This was fine as a stand-alone but it made me wish I had more context for those references. ::Adds all the series to her TBR::
Overall, this was an exciting, steamy, entertaining read, and I am looking forward to reading more of JA Low’s books!

JA Low kicks off the Manhattan Mavericks series with Love on Ice, a sizzling, fast-paced romance that perfectly blends passion, heartache, and the thrill of taking risks in love. Harper Rose, a billionaire heiress and powerhouse PR queen, has everything—except luck in love. After yet another failed relationship, she escapes to The Paradise Club Resort to heal, only to cross paths with Felix St. Pierre, a tattooed, rebellious hockey superstar who is also nursing a broken heart.
Felix has been spiraling ever since his girlfriend left him for his teammate. With his personal life in shambles and his party-boy reputation making headlines, he retreats to the resort for some much-needed space. Meeting Harper is unexpected, but their instant chemistry is undeniable. What starts as a no-strings vacation quickly takes a turn when the tabloids get wind of their time together, sending the internet into a frenzy and triggering threats from Harper’s jealous ex.
Felix proposes a solution—fake-date for the summer to keep her ex at bay and manage their growing media attention. Harper is reluctant at first, but when the threats escalate, she agrees. What begins as a calculated move soon becomes something neither of them can ignore. As the summer unfolds, the lines between what’s real and what’s just for show blur, leaving them both questioning whether their time together was ever fake at all.
This romance is packed with electric chemistry, playful banter, and just the right amount of emotional depth. Harper is strong, independent, and determined to protect herself, while Felix is charming, protective, and surprisingly vulnerable beneath his bad-boy exterior. Their dynamic is explosive, and watching them navigate their growing feelings while handling outside pressures makes for an addictive read.
Love on Ice delivers everything a hockey romance should—heat, drama, and the perfect mix of fun and intensity. JA Low crafts an engaging story that keeps readers invested from start to finish, making this a must-read for fans of sports romance, fake dating, and fiery opposites-attract pairings.
I wasn’t expecting Love on Ice to start with a friends-with-benefits situation, but honestly, it worked. This was different in a way that felt refreshing and natural. Felix and Harper meet at a resort designed for people to let loose and have fun, so their initial arrangement makes sense. They both go in with zero expectations, thinking that their circumstances would prevent them from dating each other. They enjoy their time together while fully aware that it’s all temporary.
Then reality kicks in. After they leave the resort, a situation forces them into a fake dating setup, which gradually turns into something real. Over the summer, they become exclusive, protective, and completely committed to each other. Watching their relationship evolve from casual fun to deep emotional connection brought me great satisfaction. I loved seeing Felix slowly win her over.
Felix is such a sweetheart. He’s this tattooed, bad-boy hockey star with a heart of gold, and once he falls, he falls hard. Harper, on the other hand, is rich, confident, and unapologetically sex-positive, which I loved. Her persistence could be wearing at times. I appreciated her strength, but there were moments where I wanted to shake her and tell her to just let herself be happy.
The book introduces several side characters, and I’ll admit, I struggled to keep up with some of them. It felt like some references to events or relationships were out of nowhere. After some digging, I realized this book ties into J. A. other books series. It works as a standalone, but if you’re like me and like having full context, you might want to check out those books first.
If you’re looking for a steamy sports romance that’s a little different from the usual, consider picking this one up. Although hockey takes a back seat, the romance, drama, and spice in this book make up for its lack of on-ice action. Speaking of spice whew! It’s way steamier than I expected, and it's not something I'm used to and while that’s not a bad thing, I went in thinking it would be a bit tamer.
Overall, Love on Ice is a fun, sexy, and entertaining read. I wished for a little more backstory on some of the side characters, the chemistry between Felix and Harper made up for it!!

If you’re in the mood for a glamorous, drama-filled, opposites attract romance with a dash of revenge and fake-dating fun, Love on Ice might just be your next guilty pleasure. The chemistry? Instant. The attraction? Undeniable. The consequences? Well… they escalate quickly.
While this read delivers on the spice and swoon, it also stumbles in a few places. Harper is a powerhouse, but also a little exhausting. I loved her confidence, her independence, and her unapologetic sex-positivity, but her stubbornness occasionally had me wanting to throw my kindle. Cheating, cheating, everywhere. I get it—drama makes the plot go ‘round, but this friend group needs therapy and a long, hard look at their life choices. With so many side characters either betraying or being betrayed, it started to feel like an overused trope rather than an organic conflict. If the focus had been shifted more toward character growth, it would’ve made the story even stronger.
Would I recommend it? If you love sizzling banter, steamy escapism with a high-society twist, forced proximity, and a splash of scandal, it’s definitely worth a read. Just be prepared for a few moments of frustration between the swoons. Either way, Felix St. Pierre can absolutely skate into my heart anytime.
I received an ARC copy and wanted to leave an honest review.
First of all I was a little confused when I started reading this book because it is a linked series the to the previous Paradise Club series and kind of runs parallel to it - not following it, as I expected.
That aside I instantly fell in love with the gorgeous hockey star Felix St. Pierre. Poor lad. Cheated on by his girlfriend with his best friend and just when he thought he was getting over her by getting under someone else, those pesky paparazzi almost ruin his career.
In a bid to help him get all the angst and tension out of his mind and body, his agent Issy books him into Paradise Island - an exotically erotic resort with some kinky twists.
On the boat to the island he meets Harper. We’ve met Harper briefly before as she and her brother Sam are silent partners in the Paradise resorts, but after discovering her ex cheating on her with his intern, she and Felix end up bonding over their mutual broken hearts. And wow, what a place to bond. Whilst there is a lot of soul searching being done there’s certainly a lot of fun activities to help keep their minds and particularly their bodies occupied.
They initially agree that what happens on the island stays on the island, but when the time comes for them to go their separate ways, they find it difficult to let go of the bond they had found.
Agreeing to give each other the rest of the summer to continue the relationship they’d forged in paradise, they become close. Not just bodily but romantically. You can see right from the outset that they aren’t going to be able to walk away from each other, even if they won’t admit it to themselves.
It takes a failed wedding and desperate ex to make them realise that what they were both searching for yet thought they’d never find, is actually standing right in front of them. Felix and Harper are just perfect for each other. Despite the age gap and their dating horror stories, they belong together. They just need to stop worrying about what could go wrong and focus on why they are so completely right.
Fantastic story with amazing characters that I could not help but fall in love with. Can’t wait for the next instalment.
First off, thank you for giving me an opportunity to read and review this arc!
Plot is simple. Two broken-hearted souls accidentally bumping into each other while en route to Paradise Club Resort—a place where fantasies come alive. If you know, you know.
Felix? I adored him. A tattooed hockey player who’s a total cinnamon roll with a dirty mouth? Yes, please. I couldn't get enough of him. But Harper? Here’s the thing, I had a hard time loving Harper. I didn’t like how she completely turned into a bitch after the Paradise Club Resort trip. She went from praising Felix as an amazing man to suddenly saying he wasn't respectable or that he betrayed her, even though his intentions were clearly good. It felt like such a drastic change in attitude that it was hard to root for her at times. However, I did come to appreciate that she’s stubbornly independent and unapologetic about going after what (and who) she wants.
Despite that, Felix and Harper balance each other so well—you can see how being with him helps her actually enjoy life, instead of drowning herself in work and stressful distractions.
One thing I noticed throughout the book is how cheating seems to revolve around this group of friends. Everyone’s either cheating or getting cheated on, and it just feels a bit much. I get that drama fuels the plot, but it started to feel like a common thread for everyone, which got a little tiresome. I think it could have been toned down a bit to focus more on character growth and depth.
Also, this book is classed as a hockey romance, but honestly, there’s barely any hockey in it. Probably because it’s set during the off-season, but I was hoping for more hockey content. The pacing also felt a little too fast at times, with weeks jumping ahead in the blink of an eye. It could have benefited from slowing down in certain parts to flesh out those moments.
However, it is still a fun and steamy book that I know heaps of people would enjoy. Felix St. Pierre is such a treat.
The start of a new series from JA Low and Love on Ice includes in some familiar characters and settings as Harper Rose, after yet another break up heads to Paradise island, a hedonistic resort where anything goes, to lick her wounds and finds a new friend in Felix St. Pierre, an ice hockey player who’s shares the same ailment as Harper - the humiliation and pain of a cheating ex! Harper offers to show newbie Felix the ropes and if things get more than a little physical between them, well what happens on Paradise should stay on Paradise but when Harper is threatened by her ex, what else is a good Canadian hero going to do but come to her rescue and before you can say WAG they’re the latest ‘IT’ couple.
I loved Felix. He may have been the tatted up bad boy on the ice but in reality, was the ultimate golden retriever hero. Harper, on the other hand I wanted to shake. She was stuck on an idea of a man who suited her image, all sharp suited business types who shared her wealthy background and even what had begun as fake dating Felix, had led to friends with benefits before deepening into love she was more worried about the age gap between them and public perception instead of grabbing him and screaming YES PLEASE! After all it was only seven years and it’s not as if she was old enough to be his mother. No one else cared so why did she make a big deal out of it. She’s got this perfect specimen in front of her who is ready to worship her, he even had the parental seal of approval, not that a woman in her thirties needed that, but she still hesitated
There was a lot of crossovers from previous books which could be a little confusing especially trying to figure out the connections between everyone and with the main secondary characters all of whom seemed to be or had been romantically involved did make things seem overly busy. Perhaps this means that any future books in the Manhattan Mavericks series will run concurrently with Love on Ice but that remains to be seen
Entering her hockey romance era is JA LOW, with the first book in the Manhattan Mavericks series, Love On Ice.
🏒 Ice Hockey 🌶️ S*x Club island 🫦Reverse Age Gap 🔥 Fake Dating 💁🏻♀️ Female Boss 🛌 Forced Proximity
I am a die-hard JA Low fan, and when she announced she was doing an ice hockey romance, I was a tiny bit scared for her. However, when she brought my favourite place on fictional earth into it and made it a reverse age gap, I wasn’t worried for long.
This book had me from the off. We jumped straight into the demise of both Felix and Harper’s relationships, and we moved fast from there. I mean, come on, she was choking on his chorizo in chapter 5. What’s not to enjoy?
From there they enjoy Paradise together and with some hot friends before heading back to reality with the mentality ‘What happens in Paradise, stays in Paradise.’ Well, we all know that won’t last.
Their friendship ebbs and flows really well, with each having a balance of being in charge/taking care of the other. He falls first and hard, and their tension is the stuff of wet dreams.
As the story progresses when they return, chaos ensues and they end up fake dating to provide Harper with added security and temporary living arrangement for Felix.
Harper Rose: The woman I want to be when I grow up (although I’m older than she is). She’s a badass, billionaire female boss with a PR company and silent shares in Paradise. She works hard and plays just as hard. You see her vulnerability and insecurities when they return from Paradise and they humanised her to the point I fell in love with her a bit.
Felix St Pierre: With a name like that, you know he is going to have the Canadian charm, and he doesn’t disappoint. I loved that even though he was seen as a playboy at home, he literally had no idea what he was getting himself into on the island. His expressions at times were priceless. I was expecting Harper to be the boss in the relationship, but I’m so glad he stood his ground and took charge at times.
The spice hit hard early on and toned down slightly after they left the island but as they were trying to be friends turned fake dating to avoid a scandal this was to be a bit expected.
Overall, another knockout for me by JA Low, and I can’t wait to see what Pierre St. Pierre brings to the Manhattan Mavericks!
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I have a strong feeling that it won’t be the last. This is a hockey romance because the MMC is a professional hockey player, but the real meat of this book happens on a vacation island that is meant for people to hook up. Both characters have had a rough run with love, both having been cheated on by their significant others. These two decide to spend their time there together and the result is a fun, spicy read. These two have fantastic chemistry and this becomes a well-paced, entertaining story for the reader. The fact that this goes from two people enjoying each other on vacation to a fake dating situation really hooked me in.
I was a big fan of Harper. She is a wealthy, independent, strong woman that knows what she wants and is wonderfully sex positive. This story is a reverse age gap, which is one of my favorite tropes because there really is nothing sexier than an older, successful, strong woman. She is a billionaire and really just a complete bada*s. I really enjoy when the FMC has just as much to lose as the MMC and even though she is known for a different reason than the MMC, she has her own notoriety. Felix is the tattooed, bad-boy, playboy of hockey that kind of spirals after being cheated on. But during his time with Harper we get to see what he is really like. He is protective and actually shows how vulnerable he is, hiding it behind his bad boy act. These two characters were so perfect together and they bring out the best in each other. They had dynamic chemistry that stayed with them when they left the island.
This was a fun, spicy story with two characters that absolutely deserve each other. I really appreciate that the FMC is not just strong but actually can stand on her own professionally. So often we get male billionaires, so it was really nice to see a female in this role. It was one of those books that will get you to lose yourself in the story and is over before you realize it. It’s definitely worth the read and I would recommend it to anyone.
