Here is a book written with verve, dash and humor that will tell you what you need to know. Bravo!" - Will Jennings, Academy Award-winning songwriter for "My Heart Will Go On" and "Up Where We Belong"
Borrowed this book from a friend who "borrowed" it from the music school's library many years ago in college. I can say it doesn't disappoint. Molly-Ann Leikin has a wonderful writing voice that she almost seems like writing books is her primary occupation! But I guess this is due to her being an awesome songwriter. I learned so many useful tips and information about the music industry. Some information is a bit outdated, but it was still a great read, keeping this in mind. I enjoyed her book and cannot wait to get to writing.
As a lover of words, I was interested in trying to write song lyrics, but as my expertise has always been in non-fiction, I needed guidance. Serendipity stepped in when I stumbled upon How to Write a Hit Song. Rather than a bland how-to, it provided excellent information in an entertaining format, a winning combination.
4/5 STARS! Reading this in 2024, it was a tad outdated but I found this very helpful & informative. Great tips on songwriting and how to handle the music industry. I feel I can write a hit song now which is nice (we'll see where that goes lol).
A reference in How to Write a Hit Song seems to say that better information on how to write a hit song is provided in the author's previous book, How to be a Hit Songwriter. This book provides a little insight, and might be of some use to beginners.
