Those who have struggled with machine quilting will be relieved and delighted with the author's step-by-step tour of the world of machine quilting. Ports of call on the tour include fabric selection and preparation, choosing batting and backing fabric, pin basting layers, marking the quilt, thread choice, quilting sequence, walking foot and free-motion quilting, and finishing and washing the quilt. The sections on marking the quilting design and changing bobbin tension are particularly helpful as are the tips on lighting and managing the quilt in the machine. Practice your skills on three charming quilt Trip Around the World wall quilt, Log Cabin Revisited, and Sixteen Baskets of Mud.
This book was exactly what I needed. I had been intimidated by the idea of machine quilting since I started pursuing quilt making 3 years ago. This book gave practical, usable information that had me ready to tackle machine quilting in a very short period of time. And the results were fantastic! From what I can tell, it looks to be an excellent resource for beginners and those looking to refine their technique as well.
This woman knows what she's talking about and doesn't pretend like she doesn't. Its tone is instructive (as opposed to the more modern conversational feel) without being insulting to one's intelligence, which I appreciate immensely. There are a number of quality pictures and diagrams. Short-arm machine quilting is hard; Diane Gaudynski knows this and offers truly useful advice and support.
This is a great book for modern quilters. After getting this book from the library I realised that after two years of quilting what I needed all along was a book on machine quilting. It is totally differnt from quilting by hand. For anyone that is a beginner like me this book is great.
Wow! This book is EXACTLY what I was looking for... it showed me that it is possible to create beautiful quilting using my machine. NICE! Of course, I still have to take the leap and actually try out the techniques. But this book is what I needed!
This is a fantastic reference. This first-time quilter really appreciated the tips and is currently implementing them on my first quilt! So far so good.
