Learn the beautiful art of tatting with the step-by-step instructions and interactive DVD presented in this book from American School of Needlework. 48 pages
It works! I needed to re-learn to tat to make a Steampunk mask for a friend. I had been taught (barely) by my Grandma years ago but trying to kick that memory back in via you-tube videos just wasn't doing it. And the good instructionals had needle tatting and I wanted to use a shuttle.
This book (and attached DVD) was exactly what I wanted. It is clear and straightforward and contains sufficient projects to get you started.
Okay - I am a self-taught knitter and crocheter. Using my hands and learning from a book is just up my alley. It makes sense to me. If you are facing tatting for the first time without a clear idea of what the final product should look like, and how your hands should move to achieve it, this might be beyond you. But it worked for me and I would happily recommend the book (with the DVD for the visual learning) for someone wanting to give it a go.
I had tried to master this craft many times over the years, but I only made progress when I found video instructions. This book was recommended to me by someone in a quilting group. It covers many of the finer points, including joining new thread in the middle of a project. I was amazed that I was finally able to complete some intricate designs with the instructions in this book and the included DVD.
