He’s my brother’s best friend. My first crush, my first love, and my first time.
But I had to break his heart to save us both.
Ten years later, my life is in danger, and Aiden is the only one who can offer the protection I need. I don’t have a choice, because the man and the life I chose instead...
They're about to cost me everything.
I know Aiden hates me, and he has every right to. But maybe this is my chance to tell him the truth. I really did love him. I always have. And maybe it’s wishful thinking, but Aiden and me…
Author of sexy, small town romance. Lover of banana Laffy Taffy, 80's ballads, 90's rock, and road trips. Location: Wisconsin. Sign: Sagittarius. Religion: Coffee and naps.
I loved this book! It was a wonderful brother’s best friend, second chance romance and I could not get enough of these characters. Aiden and Olivia were amazing characters. Olivia was such a strong heroine and she’s been through so much.
Aiden and Olivia didn’t part on the best of terms, but when Olivia needs protection Aiden is the only one who can keep her safe. Their love story is one full of love, emotion, heartbreak, and history. I loved these two together so much and I could not wait to see how things would work out between the two of them.
He’s my brother’s best friend. My first crush, my first love, and my first time. <— BOOM! Sold. Sign me up. Gimme gimme. I mean, that’s literally my kryptonite. Forbidden all the way. Hahahah! Waiting a year and a pushed back release date for this was rough - not gonna lie. But, seeing that synopsis made all the toes curl and definitely made me a giddy Bee!!! I love a second chance, but the icing on the cake was that the forbidden side was a brother's best friend trope. All time favorite. So once my excitement was sufficiently ramped up, my screeching halt was finding out it was a fake relationship book…nowhere did it mention that in the synopsis, and I never do well with those because I think they’re contrived and forced. However, I knew I wanted Aiden’s story, so I was going to push through and read it. Surprisingly, this wasn’t what throttled my enjoyment of this book. I struggled really hard with this book and that actually took me by surprise.
Aiden is the man. I freaking love him. He is absolutely amazing. He was the sole reason that pushed me through as far as it did. Molly McLean gives a very masculine voice to her male characters and this one was no different, given Aiden's job and role in Olivia's life - it was the strength this story needed. I like the way she voices them, and I like the way she has them treat their women. I absolutely love it and I have zero complaints about that. Twice now I have fallen in love with her men, and I can't imagine it will stop there. I do rest easy knowing that I will pick up another book of hers because I really enjoy the romance she gives me.
BUT. It was the stubbornness of the heroine that stifled my enjoyment of this one. It was definitely not the good kind of stubborn. I like a good stubborn woman - hold out for what you want!! That’s me, I can relate. It’s when it’s completely unwarranted and the writing on the wall is literally brushed over, negating common sense. That is where I struggled. For some reason Olivia really had me struggling with her actions. Nothing she does was relatable within the situation as it was broken down. I look for this in books and their characters – it’s the relatability for me because then I can better understand the situation. But when the situation calls for concern or calls for ready action, and the stubbornness is out of stupidity, I cannot in any way, shape, or form go along with the idiocy. That’s seriously why I struggled with Olivia. I hate stupid bravado. I hate a stubborn woman that doesn’t think rationally.
Overall - my anger just stemmed from Olivia. All of it. The only reason I couldn't push through on this book was all of her excuses for her actions - all the way down to the "But I had to break his heart to save us both" part. I just couldn't get on board with the stupid notion that her job was more important than her safety, or didn't understand protocol, or couldn't figure out situational awareness - and it was all ridiculous. If there is an unmarked car and cameras all up and down the street…there is obviously a safety issue, so for her to pretend to be all strong and mighty thinking she doesn’t need help and is only willing to work with one person, this was beyond frustrating. It just frustrated me about the heroine's false bravado. I may have PTSD just from this character alone...
This wasn't the second chance romance I had hoped it would be because it dipped it's toes into too many tropes that I try to knowingly steer clear of...and that makes me extremely sad. I will read more because I truly and honestly enjoy Molly McLain's writing. I know from deep within my black little heart that this was truly the one character that actually ruined an entire story for me. I hit my quota and now I know I won't run into one again. Right? Right. I'm sure of it.
Notable mention - I *neeeeed* to mention: her covers are straight up candy and I love them!! They'll turn heads every time and make me want to check them out. And I will. Every. Single. Time. This cover is the perfect depiction of Aiden, too. Hands down, pure deliciousness.
Having cried enough about not being able to finish this story, even though I scrolled around and to the very end to get all my answers, I will most certainly be picking up Jinx's story when it comes out. I believe he will be the one to be knocked down by his woman and I am looking forward to it.
I've been wanting this book ever since the first book in the series released two years ago, so when it finally landed on my kindle, I couldn't wait to start it!! Second chance, brothers best friend, bodyguard romance is my jaaammm, so you know I loved it.
That being said, I didn't love Olivia all the time, and I hate saying that with all she went through. Do I understand why she did what she did? Yes. I actually don't blame her one bit -- you never know how you will react when a trauma happens, and sexual trauma changes a person, and she *knew* how Aiden would react, and didn't want to destroy his future too when hers suddenly looked so different. I get all that. I emphasize and totally want to hold all her broken parts together for her. That being said, I wish it didn't take nine years and the death of her husband for them to be reunited. I just couldn't help but feel that if her husband wouldn't have been involved with what he was, then her paths with Aiden wouldn't have crossed again. I am so happy they were reunited, but don't get me wrong, but I just wish she would have gone to him sooner, not when she needed saving again.
As for Aiden, I really loved him. He and Olivia had a secret relationship for years, and he was so in love with her, so he was completely blindsided when she ghosted him out of nowhere. The years have passed, but his resentment, anger and heartbreak is still very much a living thing, and even though he knows it's going to hurt even more being around the woman he still loves, he won't let anyone hurt her. But will they be able to rekindle their love with a killer on the loose?
Even with how irritated I was with Liv at times, I am so glad these two found their hea. They definitely deserved it, and I cannot wait for more in the series!!!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions **
Aiden and Olivia just...didn't work for me. I wanted them to, and I gave them an honest effort, but I just cou;dn't connect with them as a couple, mostly as I just really didn't like Olivia.
Again, this book was wonderfully written. Molly has a way of capturing you in her stories. Her characters connect with you; you forget about clicking pages on the Kindle, and you love their world.
We head back to Cole Creek, this time with the eldest Enders' son, Aiden, who follows his heart and his best friend and resides in the Police sector. In the previous book, he's known as a recluse and kept to himself, moody, almost. In this story, we are presented with how hot he is, how calculated he is and also how large his heart is! When he fell in love as a teen, he never got his heart back and always had hope that his Vivi would return and be his.
We meet Viv, and I really enjoyed her character. Brunette, beautiful and only had eyes for Aiden. A teacher turned doctor in her profession, teaching university students. What led her to meet Aiden again after ten years was almost devastating. She was a character who showed great growth and hard work, leading her heart to where it always belonged, her first love.
This book has lots of tropes to be proud of; forbidden love, best friends brother, small town, fake relationship, bodyguard and more. You are also going to love the angst that Molly brings, its heated and its all fabulous. This book is slowburn at its finest, as they don't come together until the very end. It did linger a little longer on the Mafia storyline that I would've liked, but happy to see their lives residing back in Cole Creek.
A great addition to this wonderful series thus far, which leaves me the next book of the series to dive into. Enjoyed it!
I have been intrigued by this book when the teasers began & it did not disappoint!!! I’m a complete sucker for this trope too, brother’s best friend. These two were asking for trouble from the beginning of their relationship with their sneaking around. This book kept me on my toes & the twists had me falling in love with this story, this author (again & again), & these characters the more I read. I couldn’t get enough of the banter & the chemistry. Yes there was a bit of dark, a bit bad guys & some angst, but all of that was great additions to the story & not overpowering at all. It isn’t all feel good romance, but isn’t over the top darkness either. Aiden & Olivia were so worth the wait & so beautifully written. I am now wondering what Molly has in store for us with the next brother. I highly recommend this book. Told in dual POV.
Aiden and Olivia had a secret love when they were younger now 10 years later Olivia needs Aiden who has never gotten over her, but her life is in danger and Aiden is the only man she trusts to protect her. Will Aiden get the answers to the questions he’s had for 10 years? Will Olivia be able to give the answers ? Will they find love with each other or is it too late ?
Must read to find out !
This book contains angst, suspense, love, loss, and def HEAT 🔥
This book did not disappoint. It was angsty, suspenseful, heartbreaking, and full of romance.
When Olivia finds herself in danger the only person she trusts is Aiden, but Olivia hasn't seen Aiden since she broke his heart 10 years before. The reason she broke his heart made me emotional. Beware that there are sensitive topics.
There was no denying the chemistry between the two. The flashbacks to their earlier (secret) relationship were touching. Trust me when I tell you how much I was pulling for their second chance.
Aiden and Olivia's story was beautiful and the sizzle to their HEA was worth the wait.
I loved Olivia and Aiden's families. It was nice to see characters from the previous book. I can't tell you how excited I am for the next book in this series. Speaking of, this is the 2nd book in an interconnected series but written as a standalone.
Tropes: second chance, brother's best friend, fake dating, small-town
More Than a Memory is book two of the Cole Creek series of interconnected standalones. I can’t even begin to say how much I loved this book! It was angsty, heartbreaking, suspenseful, and romantic with a little bit of spice. Aiden and Olivia were high school/college sweethearts but were hiding it from everyone. Aiden is left heartbroken when Olivia cuts off their relationship with no explanation. Ten years later she is in trouble and he is the only one she trusts to help her.
This book kept me hooked from the first page to the last and I didn’t want to put it down! Both Aiden and Olivia were relatable characters and I was invested in them from the beginning. I loved this book and am looking forward to more of this series!
I loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. You will get angst, suspense, and a whole bunch of steam. Plus, your heart will get a workout.
Aiden and Olivia have a secret history, but right now, he is one of the few she trusts. It is about ten years later, and Olivia is in trouble. But she broke Aiden’s heart last time they were together. Can he trust her? Her situation is dire, he will get to achieve the job of his dreams, but he has questions. The chemistry is still there; will they get a second chance? The truth might break them.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Olivia and Aiden were made for eachother. Having to keep their relationship a secret was no easy task so when Olivia ended their relationship without warning you can imagine what happened...years passed but their love for one another was always present. Fast forward ten years and Aiden is now Olivia's body guard and the sparks are still adamant and their chemistry is as strong as ever. What a great book about second chances and forgiveness and the power of going after what you want after tragedy. I recommend!!
Loved Aiden and Olivia's story. This brothers best friend second chance story was not what I expect but I liked it. These two find each other under bad circumstances. What they find time past they still are drawn to each other and never stopped loving one another. Their past was secret but all secrets eventually uncover.
Omg this book!!! I freaking adore Liv and Aidan!! And this story, I was very shocked in the way it was going when it started. I was like this is new for Ms. McClain but omg I LOVED it! So much! And I loved getting to visit with favorite characters again too!
Oh wow! I loved We’re Made of Moments and this was just as amazing. A complex storyline with characters with complex pasta and part truths that have lead them to where they are today. Great use of flashbacks and sensitive topics handled so beautifully (see triggers).
I enjoyed it for the most part. At times it felt like it was dragging, just waiting for something or anything to happen. The fact that they took so many years to get back together and why they split up in the first place. Overall not a bad read.
Again, another nice, small town second chance romance by this author. I’d also give this a 3.5 like the first one because it also wasn’t a bad book. There were some sweet moments between Aiden and Olivia, and it was cute to see them in the few flashback chapters that were included. My main issue was the fact that there was a whole 10 year separation between when they were first together and when the story takes place. That’s too long of a gap for me to enjoy. Add in the fact that Olivia got married in that time. I don’t really care about the circumstances surrounding her marriage, I didn’t like the fact that she married at all. Again, just like with Hayden in the first book, she knew she still loved Aidan but went ahead and committed to another guy. That’s a no for me. I also hate the lack of communication. Olivia went through something terrible and instead of talking to Aiden about it, she broke up with him, cut him off, left and married some other guy and stayed away for a decade. She made a decision for them both, without consulting him, and it resulted in them being apart for 10 years. I hate when characters take choices away from other characters. But I liked how determined she was to win him back and prove that they could be together again. And despite his initial anger, I’m glad that Aiden was understanding of her trauma. These Enders boys are boys obsessed and I kinda love it. I also loved the bodyguard element of this story even if the whole Polish mob plot felt a little far fetched for a small town romance.
The author has such a flowing style and a way with unique characters that I fell in love with her words in the previous book in the series, and I was excited to read this one. I wasn’t disappointed.
Though it’s a pure second chance romance–Aiden and Liv had a thing for four years, ten years ago, when she broke up with him, and they reunite under dire circumstances–the suspense element is always in the background, surprising the reader who had fallen in a false comfort with a new gruesome or intriguing event or revelation. It keeps the interest going in the best way.
The romance itself is beautiful. They were clearly in love when they were together, with hope for a future, before everything was ruined. I didn’t totally buy that they still loved each other after the life they had–Olivia was married and Aiden had meaningless relationships. I was more inclined to believe Aiden’s feelings, though I get where Olivia comes from. I mean, I’d have accepted more easily that they just fall in love again. Yet that doesn’t mean that their interactions weren’t often cute and lovely. They become friends again for sure.
They were both compelling characters. Aiden is a good man, devoted to his work in law enforcement. He’s decent too. On the other hand, Liv is a successful professor, and she’s strong and courageous despite what happened in her past. I felt an equality in their relationship, even with Aiden hired to protect her. She’s no damsel in distress for sure, and though protective, Aiden isn’t an alpha douchebag.
Like in the first book, I enjoyed all the Polish culture references. It sure sets the book apart. Food, language, history and geography… I felt like I was learning something, and it’s always a plus for me.
Well written, with good characters and an interesting suspenseful story, this was a good book.
Quickie

"Murder on Memory Lane" More Than a Memory is book two in the Molly McLain Cole Creek series. It’s a small town, second-chance romance that follows the eldest Enders sibling, Aiden. I was thrilled that he got his own book. He was so mysterious in We’re More Than Moments. He rocked the whole cloak-and-dagger vibe with all the secrets he had to keep as an undercover cop. He is just so…manly. And funny to boot, if you like the dry humor type. There is also something heartbreakingly sad about Aiden. For the last ten years, he has been pining for his first love, Olivia Bishop. She is also his best friend’s little sister. And we all know that’s against the bro code. Through flashbacks, we learn of Aiden and Liv’s secret relationship as teenagers. This is where Ms. McLain shines. The best part of this book is watching these two fall in love. It’s a beautiful portrait of forbidden trysts that remind me of the exhilaration of being young and in love. McLain tastefully and gracefully captured the innocence of mutual discovery, the desire, the excitement, the illicit touches, and that feeling of just needing to be near your person. It was pure delight and very refreshing. Olivia abruptly ends their affair after four years, drastically changing the course of their life together. The conflict comes when Olivia, now a college professor, needs Aiden’s help after her husband was suddenly murdered by the Polish mob. Of course, the request leaves a bad taste in Aiden’s mouth. But if anyone is going to protect his woman, it’s him. The former lovers are forced to navigate old and new feelings as they try to figure out who’s trying to kill her. In the process, we also learn what really happened to make Olivia break things off with Aiden. The reason is so horrifying. The unfolding of Aiden’s heartbreak at that moment absolutely shattered me. There is just something so raw about experiencing a man’s breakdown.
The suspense in this storyline was really well done. I found myself anxious to get to the climax. I couldn’t guess how it would play out for the life of me. Unfortunately, when it did happen, it was extremely quick. Blink and you missed it. I was a bit let down by that. The setup was so well crafted, but the resolution fell a little flat. The brother’s best friend trope didn’t pan out for me either. Aiden and Liv are both adults at this point and he is protecting her from mortal danger. It didn’t feel strong enough to continue pushing that particular conflict. Still, More Than a Memory was a highly engaging and entertaining read. It’s certainly worth the read. A bonus is the rest of the Enders clan; the family brought a little levity to the pressing storyline. I am looking forward to the next two books in the series, which are expected to follow Aiden’s siblings, Jinx and Amelia. Read if you’re down with: *Small Town *Second Chances *Brother’s BF *Suspense
Molly McLain once again brings readers back to Cole Creek and once again, I fell in love with the characters, the settings, and the entire story! This small-town, second-chance, forbidden love story has all of the best elements readers love all in one place: best friend's little sister/older brother's best friend, mystery and suspense, huge secrets, first loves reunited, a swoony, slow-burn love story, and plenty of heat and heart. There's pretty much something for everyone in this one little powerful story! It's a complete standalone story however there are a few very minor spoilers to the first book in the series.
I loved Aiden and Olivia! These two have gone through h*ll and back. They were first loves but nobody knew because they kept it hidden. They're reunited when Olivia needs Aiden's help because her life is being threatened. I loved watching these two characters get reacquainted and fall in love once again. Their chemistry and heat is palpable throughout the story and the slow-burn build-up was perfectly executed. I felt the grief and heartbreak these two felt as they fought to rebuild their trust in one another while trying to figure out who was behind the threats to Olivia's life.
With a fabulous small-town setting, McLain did what she does best: she delivered the perfect suspenseful love story that had me racing through the pages to find out who the enemy was. Readers will love Cole Creek and the entire Enders family. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll feel all of the feels. And I cannot wait for Jinx's book next! If Molly McLain isn't on your radar, you should be asking yourself why you haven't read her stories yet because she is amazing! 5 stars

Ten years ago Aiden Enders was in love with his best friend’s sister, but she destroyed their relationship for reasons unknown to others. Now, Olivia Bishop’s life is endangered because of her dead husband’s past. Sounds complicated? That’s only the beginning. Aiden has never really moved on from Olivia but also never revealed they shared a romantic past with anyone. So when Olivia needs special security to protect her from those that feel wronged by her husband’s choices, Aiden seems like a good choice to almost everyone. Aiden refuses at first but quickly realizes he cannot leave this job for anyone else. Olivia has achieved her dream of becoming a professor but everything else in her life is full of secrets. Her marriage was not what it seemed and the reasons she cut ties with Aiden are complicated. She has been through a lot and has done much of it alone, but when her life is at risk she knows Aiden will protect her best. The writing in this book flowed so well, I felt as if I was experiencing the moments and memories with the characters. My heart hurt for Aiden. He kept his love for Olivia secret for years and then it was gone before he truly was able to express it. He may seem to be a detached person but really he feels things very deeply. As Olivia revealed her own secrets, I had a hard time understanding her at first but she was young and hurting. These two had to overcome the past and the present to get to their HEA. There are a lot of strong feelings and circumstances to deal with in this book but it is well worth it in the end.
Olivia Bishop is in trouble and Aiden Enders is the only one she trusts to protect her. The problem is she left him ten years ago with no explanation and he is still angry and heartbroken over it. They were in a secret relationship for four years and just when they were ready to go public to her family, Olivia broke things off. Her reasons are revealed later in the book and they indirectly lead us to what is going on in her life now.
I enjoyed this story, especially the suspense element of it. The author does not reveal exactly what is going on until 90% into the book and I was questioning if I was correct on the villain's identity (I was!!).
Olivia and Aiden both annoyed me at times, but I feel like that happens a lot for me in a second chance romance (especially if they are originally together when they are younger). I enjoyed the glimpses into their early relationship and it made me more invested in their reconciliation. There are some really good steamy scenes in the flashbacks and after they finally get back together. The peach cake scene is my personal favorite.
I will definitely go back and read book one in this series. I am very interested in Jesse and Hayden's story. I also can't wait to get the rest of the Enders family stories.
Thank you to the Smuthood for this book.
Tropes: Brother’s Best Friend, Second Chance, Protector, Small Town
#morethanamemory is a romantic suspense book written by @mollywritesromance. This is my first book by this author.
Aiden wanted who he couldn’t have. His best friends little sister. They snuck around for a couple years and were everything each other wanted. Until he gets the call that changes everything, she’s done and wasn’t looking back. Ten years later he had an opportunity of a lifetime to be the best detective he can be. Until he hears it’s for her. Can he put his past behind him and protect her regardless, or will the hurt he went through make it hard to do his job?
Olivia had always wanted the man she couldn’t have. She broke the rules and fell for her brothers best friend. But when something happens, she makes the decision to break them up to protect their futures. She has secrets she holds close and plans to keep it that way. Until she finds her life in danger and the only person she wants to protect her is the man she pushed away. Can she convince him she did the right thing regardless of the hurt or was there to much damage that now risks her safety more?
I wasn’t sure what to expect here, but these book exceeded everything. There was angst, pain, love, heartbreak and suspense. You find out how much Aiden and Olivia truest care for one another and Olivia truest believer she did the right thing. I really enjoyed this book and would absolutely reach more! (Check trigger warnings)
This book was… oh boy. It was something. I am a sucker for brother’s best friend. It is tied for my favorite trope. And wow, More Than a Memory by Molly McLain will tug at your heartstrings in the best way possible. 😍😍
It had everything I was looking for. It is super angsty and heartbreaking but also romantic and heart-warming.
Olivia and Aiden had a secret fling 10 years ago, but they didn’t tell anyone because Aiden is Olivia’s brother’s best friend. She ends it unexpectedly and cuts Aiden out of her life. Years later, Olivia is in danger, and the one person that she trusts to protect her is Aiden. 🔥🔥
The reasoning behind Olivia ending their relationship all those years ago absolutely broke my heart. I can relate to what she went through, and it is devastating. Warning, though, it is an extremely sensitive topic, so proceed with caution.
The chemistry between Olivia and Aiden was on fire. Even from the flashbacks, you could see how good they are for each other. I loved their respective families and the side characters too. Watching each character blossom was an added bonus to the romance.
You will be rooting for Olivia and Aiden to get their second chance because they so deserve it. McLain delivers a beautiful and heartbreaking story about love, loss, and trusting the one who broke you. It will tug at your heartstrings and make you believe in not only the power of love but the power of forgiveness and second chances. This is one book you don’t want to skip! ❤❤
I knew I had to read this after seeing all the teasers on my Instagram feed. This is a second chance romance between two high school sweethearts, Olivia and Aiden. Their relationship was a secret plus he's her brother's best friend. Something happens that breaks them up and now ten years later Olivia is in danger and needs Aiden's help to protect her. I have really grown to love second chance romances. They deliver on angst, love declarations and keep the hope that we can move forward from past mistakes. Olivia and Aiden certainly did not let me down on the angst factor. These two! There's so much love between them and the reader definitely wants to cheer for them to get back together. McLain's writing is addictive. She draws you into the story and you don't want to put it down until the very end! This is a standalone in an interconnected series. I had no problem reading this on its own. I would recommend this for readers who like: second chance romance, forbidden/secret romance, best friend's brother, bodyguard romance, romantic suspense, and angst.
*Thank you to the author for an advanced copy. I voluntarily read and reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own*
Second chances happen, especially when you are from a small town like Cole Creek, but Olivia and Aiden get their second chance due to a mysterious and dangerous situation. Liv’s life is on the line but she knows one of the only people she can trust that will be able to help her is the man she has avoided for a decade. Liv has been through such difficult, traumatic and heartbreaking moments that have caused her to distance herself from all the people she loves. Readers will feel such heartache at all she has lived through and the danger she is now having to survive. It is also absolutely impossible for readers to not fall hard and fast for Aiden, the man of Liv’s dreams and best friend to her brother. He is a strong, stand up type of guy who has no problem letting Liv know what has to happen to keep her safe. Aiden has built walls around his heart due to what happened between he and Liv as teenagers, but the more time they spend together, the harder it is for him to fight the feelings that still exist behind those walls. Readers need to get ready for a roller coaster ride of emotions, a whole lot of passion and a mystery that has to be solved in order to keep Liv safe!
