It's the year 2035 in New York, and Tara Jade leads a far from normal life as a hacker, working for the government when she is put on a new assignment. Follow Tara as she explores and uncovers not only secrets about herself and others, but a secret world that is hidden and beyond anything she could ever imagine. Full of twists, turns, unwavering love, and heartbreak. Where will Tara find herself at the end of a long, dark road?
I like big books, I can not lie. And this book is bigger than most everything I’ve read recently. I feel like it needed to be big in order to accommodate all the complex relationships it contains. Theirs is a detailed world that is at once familiar yet wholly different from the one we inhabit. Tara and Hyder face many of the same prejudices and political uncertainty while also sharing the unique experience of the parasitical mutation. The story almost made me think of The X-Men crossed with JC Adrijeski’s Bridge & Sword series. It’s extra spicy, and it takes the reader through some very dark places, so I’d advise future readers to be aware of this going in. I’m now very curious to see what the next book brings us.
I really wanted to like this book because the cover art is beautiful and the FMC is a hacker, but the first three pages really turned me off due to the grammatical errors and writing style. Dnf
Edit: if it was cleaned up, I'd give it another chance tho
Parasite is the first book in R.N.A. Author's Para- series and if you are someone who appreciates a really deep book that takes you deep into the storyline and characters then you're going to enjoy this novel. Parasite takes you on a unique journey into the future with some interesting characters. Tara is the main character of the story, but she has her best friend and then a steamy romance that begins unexpectedly. She meets this person initially for business, but it quickly morphs into something a lot more. Coming in at over 1000 pages this book has a lot of parts to it. It has it's engaging moments, and then there are moments where the storyline drags down and also where it gets really heavy. Read the trigger warnings before you purchase this book. That way you are fully aware of what is to come and aren't caught by surprise. Also, you can't say that the author didn't warn you. Things get a bit intense here and there, but I was able to push through it. I enjoyed this book overall, but I think that some of what is in this book is a bit much and could have been cut out to better streamline the story. Overall, I look forward to more from this author in the future. I'm rating this book 4 out of 5 stars.
Don’t let the length of this book scare you ! 📚 It’s definitely a five star book 5/5 ⭐️’s
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE SO DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND READ THIS ASAP ! ✨
If you love spice OH BOY 👀🌶 You’ll not be disappointed with this one ! 🥵
The plot and the romance in this book is immaculate & I can’t imagine how R.N.A.’s mind work to assemble this well written story. 🤯✍️ She has a way with words & I love her writing style. THE PLOT WILL HAUNT YOU (in the greatest way possible)
I CRIED SO MUCH BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT !!! 💕 also, i really like how the author tackled racism on the poc side character, it is important to address this type of concern even if its a fictional book 🥰
Ok, wow so this book did take me a few chapters to fully immerse myself in, but once I was , there was no putting this book down. The attention to detail, the character development and world building , the writing style and flow, it was all really enjoyable to read. While I felt like it did take a few chapters for the pace to pick up, once it did, I found it moved at a good pace as well. The plot is thick and unique. Tara and her bestie are life goals, I love their relationship and loved going on this adventure with them. This is a bit of a different style book than I usually read and was super curious to try this one, then action and drama was edge of your seat and the spice was so spicy. I am so glad I took a chance with this book and authour
“This book was definitely out of my comfort zone and left me a huge impression. First of all, it’s insanely long! Not gonna lie, at some point I wanted it to just be over lol guess it’s been quite too long since the last more thick book I read, mostly because the beginning was too slow and ‘peacefully’ sort of but totally get why it was important to have context of the scenario. At this point I’m no longer scared by darkness a.k.a. triggers so there wasn’t a big deal to me and nothing socking worth mentioning. There no doubt this was a tough journey, some tear dropping moments other breathtaking and interesting connections. Let’s see what the next book will give us.”
Parasite is the first book in Para- series by R.N.A. This is my very first book by this author, so I really didn't know what to expect. I was blown away on how thiccc this bad boy was. Coming in at over 1000+ pages!!! I did get a bit off track during some portion of the book, but seriously the emotions and visionary puts you back on track. I'm not gonna put a summary because it's best to go in blind. I will say this was full of epic world building, amazing, yet very tragic characters, full of smexy times, loads of triggers, and DEFINITELY worth the read.
Wow! I did NOT see this book coming! It's thicccccccck - really, it's more like 3 books in 1, so you're getting a LOT of story for your $. I haven't cried multiple times while reading a book in a while, but this story is romantic, steamy, tragic and completely heart-wrenching. Once you get into the story, you will not be able to put it down, so grab some tissues and get comfy. There are some triggers, so heed them if you have any - if not, this is a book you need to read!
Wow, this book was a very interesting read that once I started I could not put it down. It moves along at a pace which is perfect for the flow of the story. The characters are amazing and you cannot help but love them and you want to be there for them. This book needs to be read, you will not be sorry that you did.
Get your tissues ready you will need them. Definitely pay attention to the trigger warning ⚠️ if you have any. With that said... Parasitic people are supposedly thriving, and Tara has been tasked with finding out if they are a danger to the human race. Using her slew of underground contacts, she finally comes face to face with the King himself, Hyder Strand, and he is much more than she could have ever hoped for.
With her best friend Jenna at her side. I will definitely be reading the next book. This book does start off slow but it fits the storyline
Ok let me start out and say this book is beautifully written. There is so much indepth writing that you really feel what the characters feel. There is a lot of feelings going on in this book. I felt like I was experiencing it right along with them. I had a hard time with the amount of sorrow they had to go through. I gave it a 4 star because feel like it should have been broken into several books. This was a very long read. I had trouble finishing it just because it was so detailed that I felt that parts were slow moving. This book was so good it gave me a book hangover. I fell like I experienced all the heart ache, sorrow and needless tragedy with them. I read to escape the world around me and this book didn't allow that. It showed there isn't always happy endings and things don't always work out. I am the type of person that get very attached to the characters so it's hard for me when they go through everything these characters do. This book made me cry with them!! If you like a good romance that is so indepth that you cry along with the main characters this is the book for you. That being said it isn't all sadness. There is some happy times that make up for the tears. There is also a lot of steamy time!!!! This book is off the chart HOT!!! if you don't read if for any other reason read it for the sexy times!!!
To be honest, the warnings at the beginning of the book sure made me hesitant to read the story but i'm glad for as well because this is not a bok for everyone for sure. That being said it's a good story and i liked it a lot. It did seem longer than regular book so it was a suurprise but no matter the length it was a page turner ( with break for tissues)
Tara did not get the ideal childhood at all but she is doing her best to cope and with her friend Jenna she can be a force to recknon ...when she get the job to find information about secluded group she was not expecting to come accross some mutated human (with alien gene knd of) even less to fall for one. When Hyder discover his mate after centuries of wait, he is determined to win her over and to gift his people their queen....a young Tara was not was he expected but he love her fire and intellect...with a war on their door they will need to be strong to protect their people.
This is a sci-fi story with lot of very very steamy scenes but also mention of rape, miscariage, torture, drug and suicide so if you are too sensitive at the moment you may wait to read this. You must be above 18y too. If you do read this story you will find it quite moving, full of action and it won't leave you indiferent.
This story really reeled me in right away. I liked Tara, but disliked how she was a bit abusive to the one person who had always tried to be in her corner and look out for her the best they could. It is realistic in a way because when we are damaged we are often the most comfortable with taking out our frustrations on those who we know will take it and love us anyway. The author did an excellent job with world building. I liked Tara and Hyder together although Hyder did not completely win me over by the end of the book due to the constant lying and decitfulness all while almost demanding the truth from her immediately to earn his trust, but I was able to empathize & understand his desperation and reasoning. This is a book I will definitely re-read in the future.
Tara, a government “spy” with a tragic past, is put in charge of finding Hyder, leader of a group of hidden people, to determine if the people are friend or foe. As the story progresses the scavenger hunt hits a dead end, she has to reach out to old friends, and she fights against getting closer until she may not have something to mend. R.N.A. Author crafted an extraordinary post apocalyptic romance tale that weaves fantasy and reality seamlessly. This book is not the end of the Para series. I cannot wait to read about Jenna and Kazear. Reader discretion advised due to dark subject matter and/or possible triggers.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
This story set in a futuristic world combines the reality we know with something completely different and far fetched. The complex world building and complicated relationships justify the length of the book, and even though the reader might need a little time to get used to it and submerge into the story, it is definitely worth it. There is a lot of action and several darker themes are explored, so if you get triggered easily read the warnings upfront. Characters are explored deeply and develop with each challenge they have to face, and the portraying of their personalities with their flaws and weaknesses make them realistic, human, and rather easy to connect with. The story also contains many steamy scenes that add a different flavor to the book. All in all it is a book worth your time.
I really struggled to get into this book as I didn’t like the main character, but I think from how it continues and she changes that was the point she wasn’t very nice and then changes. It is a very involved book but worth it if you can stick out the bits you don’t enjoy as much to the very good bits and overall story.
Please Check Trigger Warnings before you go into this book. While it took me a few chapters to really get in to it I ended up enjoying reading Parasite. I liked Tara and Hyder the Parasitic King she had to find. And I loved Tara's friend who was along for the ride. It did take me a while to finish this book because it is a whopping 1000 pages but was a fun journey.
The story is deep. It’s incredible. It’s in the future. It’s a long book so be prepared. It’s emotional. It’s absolutely incredible and I can’t wait to read more.
A very long and lengthy book, but it's filled with interesting information and situations, it seems things are not what they appear in this book.. can't wait for the next book
First of all, I would like to express my inner chuckle at an author named RNA writing about parasites. Secondly, holy crap. I knew this book was long, but the warning I received didn't come close to preparing me for the scope of story and time encapsuled in this book. There was a point I thought the story could have ended and been a successful romance story, but it kept going. The plot exploded from there, and my mind was fuzzy with how a brand new story grew and twisted from the beginning of the book. Honestly, I thought that was where RNA started to shine as a story teller. This story is full of drama and heartbreak, but it is also one of the sweeter romances and relationships. For some of us steeped in the dark romances it might seem cloying, but for others, its exactly what they search for away from the basement prisons and Mafia Dons.
The concept of the parasite and a people modified but human was intriguing. I am happy to read a monster or shifter story. Upgraded humans intrigue me the most. It tickles the brain into believing maybe...no...the fantasy and wonder kicks in stronger than full covens of witches or werewolf shifters battling out in the streets. Its not necessarily a complaint, but more a hope and definite confidence that some of the clunkier writing hiccups with wording and transitions will smooth out the more we get from RNA. I'd really love to see some spicy scenes that are more descriptive with how things feel, not just action of what is being done.
This took me a very long time to finish as I am usually not into long books. There was a period that was very slow for me but once it picked up, boy. I texted the author(who happens to be my bestie) and yelled and cried and all she did was laugh at me. But seriously you guys, this book takes you through the emotional wringer; I’m not a fan of what she did to Tara buttttttt it’s sort of a hea. Kinda. Let’s just say this, this is a love of survival; it certainly wasn’t all hearts and roses.
I’m almost heat it at to read about Jenna because I feel she had it so easy. Like how much trauma can you dump on one character? Pass that shit around lol! But this was her intent; to make you feel with her characters and she certainly did. Her plot was amazing; like amazing guys. She already writes like a seasoned author; I’m a bit jelly. But you won’t be sorry reading this series and the covers would look dope in your library!!! I do hope she decides to add Nat’s story, what a welcome addition to my para series that would be lol!
Do you see what I did there lol?
Read the trigger warnings guys: there are references to suicide, non con, torture/experimentation, miscarriage, murder, and forced breeding
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
First of all the cover of this book, like all of R.N.A's books, is absolutely stunning. Never judge a book by its cover but this one completey sucked me in. I am not normally a reader of sci-fi but this found it's way onto my kindle during a free promotion offered by the author, which I am grateful for.
A complex and interesting read. I absolutely loved the world building and the writing style. A few of the reviews I've read said they didn't like the MC Tara at first, albeit I feel this was intentional by the author, but I actually enjoyed ike her character from the start and I enjoyed the friendship between Tara and Jenna
At times the chapters felt a little too long, as did the book on a whole. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, but sometimes I found it difficult to say 'oh go on then just one more chapter', simply because just one chapter was still a lengthy read. My personal opinion only, I feel it could have been split into two books with shorter chapters to perhaps make it less of a daunting read.
That being said, in parts it was extremely gripping and I really enjoyed seeing the character development and story line progress. I will read more from this author in the future.
This book took me into a totally before now unknown world that I didn’t know I needed. Welcome to the world of Parasites, not the usual type of thing that we are used to hearing about, but the kind of Parasite that gives you super powers and a loving fated mate.
But with all the good Tara gets from her introduction to the world of Parasites, she is given an underground look into the darkness that is hidden underneath the light, and some things don’t grow in darkness but become overwhelming and life changing. As Tara goes from happiness to overwhelming grief, I felt that this is truly a glimpse through the window of her soul. Something everyone has gone through at some point in their lives.
If you enjoy truly funny, and yet sometimes heartbreaking moments then this is the book for you. Pick up your copy of Parasite and get ready to embrace a world that is as unique as it is unexpected.
First of all: my inner nerdy girl loves that an author named RNA is writing about parasites. Secondly: if you like books that have deep, meaningful plots, amazing character development, and original storylines - Parasite is the book for you. M/F, medium burn, paranormal romance that is a little over 1,000 pages long. Don’t shy away because of how fat this book baby is, because I didn’t even notice until AFTER I posted a review (elsewhere) and someone mentioned it in a comment. You will fall so far down the rabbit hole, and so head over heels for Tara & Hyder you will be absolutely swept away (I seriously read it in 2-3 days). Check those TWs my friends and freaking ENJOY!! It’s an amazing ride
If you're looking for a page turner with amazing spice, look no further. Seriously, stop your search now! While this book starts a tad bit slow in the first four chapters, once you hit chapter 5, you won't be able to put it down. Tara is a badass and the best friend we all wished we had, with a love story that captivates you. The author makes you wanna throw the book, run and get it, hug it and repeat the process until you can't any longer. So, what are you waiting for, dowload it, buy it, do what you have to, but READ THIS BOOK!
This author was new to me and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had a little bit of a hard time getting into it at first but it definitely got better. The storyline was unique and intriguing. Tara was not very nice at the beginning but she evolved through the book. This was quite the epic book as it was a huge amount to read. It was worth it at the end. This was one of those books that make you think and took you through the whole spectrum of emotions. I’m looking forward to reading the second book.
This was a thick book. It covered slot of ground. There was action and drama galore. There was romance and steam to set fire to the pages. Its a very I tense psychological book with many heart wrenching moments and possible triggers. The world building is unique and thorough. The character building is extensive. I'm certainly curious to see what the second book brings to the table. Highly recommend.
This first book in this series is incredible and takes you on a unique journey into a future world full of intriguing characters. It starts off slow as we are introduced to our characters and then momentum picks up and draws you in and you end up on quite the adventure. The world building is amazing and the characters descriptive as we join them in the action and drama that ensues. There’s romance and steam and Do check out the trigger warnings before reading.
