'The Jungle Doctor prepares current and future wildlife heroes to take on any challenge in their path with confidence'
If this book was not on my Book Club's list, I possibly would not have read it. However I am glad I did. Chloe was very passionate and enthusiastic in her approach to veterinary work. She was brave to visit other countries to learn about and treat the native wildlife - something I could never consider. She tells how she dealt with large and small, wild and friendly, scary and cute animals with a humorous vein. The book is written very simply, and I suspect this was deliberate to make it accessible to a wide audience. She really wanted to promote the need for us all to care for our natural environment. She truly agreed with the Aboriginal idea of us being custodians, and the fact that there are always connections and if one is disturbed, there can be massive impacts on others. Very enjoyable.
An amazing recount of the beginnings of a career in conservation and wildlife medicine. Dr Buiting offers an interesting perspective on not only how we as individuals can make a difference but how any career can become one that fuels the ever growing fire of wildlife conservation.
Dr Buiting highlights her amazing experiences in Africa and the Americas whilst simultaneously providing an enticing call to action to a future generation of conservationists.
Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in a career in animal husbandry, Veterinary medicine or anyone with a general interest in wildlife conservation.
As a third year vet student, I found it so validating reading this book where I have had some very similar experiences and feelings. Chloe and her story is so inspiring and makes me excited in what I can do after graduation. Her experiences were not only exciting but she wrote about it in such a humorous way. I think it is so generous for all proceeds to go to charity. A truly inspiring book and author.
I enjoyed following Chloe Buiting's journey from nature loving child to a committed vet practising in remote locations in Africa, Asia and Australia. We learn about the challenges of battling poachers in Kenya or treating animals badly injured in Australian bushfires.
A treat for animal lovers and conservationists alike.
I found this interesting, a little. I was taken by how someone feels that their Gap year after uni would be sufficiently interesting to others to write a book about it. But I guess perhaps if more of us believed that, the world would be a better place altogether. Not a great read but also easy going.
Key message: Conservation is critical, there are lots of good people doing it, and in Africa and many other places around the planet it is very hard and life threateningly dangerous. I was not surprised to learn that Chimpanzees are one of the most violent species on the planet, second only to humans. This helps explain my visceral dislike of them.
This is the book I wish I could have read at 14 years old and I’m so glad that I can read now!! Absolutely loved it and I know so many people will enjoy learning more about wildlife conservation and Dr Chloes story!!
While this book was very informative and it was fascinating to hear about Dr Chloe’s adventures and the cheeky animals she met and treated along the way, I just personally struggle with non fiction books to get fully engrossed in the story and information so it took me a while to finish.
I absolutely loved this book. As a final year veterinary student with a keen interest in conservation work, I found it both inspiring and educational. This book has some extremely important messages I couldn’t agree more with.
A very inspiring and educational book, found myself getting distracted googling interesting facts mentioned and getting lost in her instagram. Will definately be recommending to everyone :)
What a great adventure. I learnt a lot and loved the dressing for the occasion zebra outfit. That was a great book to read and i am now planning my next trip to the zoo.
An interesting book on the life of a wildlife vet filled with many stories of the animals she treated and came across. If you love animals you will love reading this.
Made me cry in the end and laugh in the middle. Made me sad, and angry, and filled me with hope. This is one of those books you will never forget reading.
