Finding Hope: From Brokenness to Restoration

Rate this book
Brokenness is something we see all around us in our world, our communities, and our relationships. Yet each of us has our own story of brokenness as well. What parts of brokenness have pressed in and pushed forward in your life? And where is hope when brokenness comes close?

Designed to help you call that brokenness by name, Finding From Brokenness to Restoration will give you tools to identify your story of brokenness and see God's hope in the messes of life.

Brokenness isn't where the story ends. God doesn't flee or leave us in the middle of the mess. Instead, when we call brokenness by name, we can more clearly see God's hope alive and well in our daily lives. Jesus Christ enters into our brokenness and brings restoration.

Join author Heidi Goehmann on a journey to call out brokenness in your life and unveil it together for God's healing.

Finding Hope focuses on brokenness, loss, and grief in a very unique way. According to Terry Pratchett, “Mt. Fuji appears so often in Japanese prints. Sometimes it’s big and up close. Sometimes it’s a shape on the horizon. Sometimes it’s not there at all, which means that the artist either has made a deliberate decision against the mountain, which is interesting in itself, or is in fact standing on Mt. Fuji.”
The author takes a very similar approach to grief and brokenness. We all live with it. Sometimes our brokenness feels up close, sometimes it’s blurry and at a distance, sometimes we are standing on it, and sometimes we make a deliberate choice to shove it down and not deal with it. This book, regardless of whether or not you are currently standing on grief, is an excellent resource to pick up.
Weaving together tremendous Biblical insight, a strong understanding of the topic, and honest and open stories from her own life— Heidi Goehmann sets herself apart as a true doyenne of Christian mental health education.

Heidi offers an honest and insightful look into the brokenness that fills each of our lives. She puts a name to that messy feeling we all have that makes us believe something just isn’t right. This book is a much needed reminder that brokenness is not forever because of the hope we have in Jesus.

Loved this book - deeply thoughtful, anchored in the Word, and made especially meaningful by the author's work as a therapist and social worker.

I'd also like to add that it is relevant to my life, today. Here's an excerpt that explains: "How do we get to more of the hope resilience brings into our lives? There is no step-by-step plan for resilience, but we start by recognizing God's faithfulness not only in the good things of life but also in the valleys and deserts. Then, we can identify the skills that build resilience, such as naming our emotions, being aware of our problems, discerning which steps to take to overcome these problems, and asking for help." Yes!

Her focus on brokenness and hope resonates: "But brokenness never gets the last word. Christ does."

I felt understood and highly encouraged by this book, inspired to healthy new thoughts and practices. "Finding Hope" indeed!

While this didn’t answer the question I’m seeking, it was a good book. Simple and easy to access, it’s more an introduction to the topic of hope than a deep dive into what hope looks like in the trenches of life.

"Hope “does not disappoint” not because people around us do not disappoint, and not because the world does not disappoint, but because Jesus does not disappoint." —Heidi Goehmann

Finding Hope: From Brokenness to Restoration holds a ton of truth about what goes on in my own mind regarding surrounding difficult situations—naming these things brokenness. Using her expertise to reveal this common problem, Heidi also points out how we are released from the pressure of it all with Biblical references. Brokenness is an accumulation of the pieces of our puzzles that just don’t seem to fit until we realize the blessings of certain hope, faith in Jesus, are the important pieces which complete and make us whole.

I took my time through this book, using it more as a Bible study than reading it straight through. I spent time in God’s Word alongside this text and dug deep into past and current situations of brokenness and Hope in my own life. Thank you, Heidi, for walking through this and presenting it in an understandable way for your readers!

Heidi has such a wonderful way of portraying the hope and grace God gives in a world full of broken relationships. This book was simple enough to read, but thoughtful in every word. I love how she has broken down each chapter/section to concentrate on different relationships within our life; within our community, work, church, and family. It has a been a refreshment to my soul and brought me encouragement as I have slowly flipped through its pages.
