Marie James is a mother of two boys and wife of 17 years. She's spent most of her life lifetime living in central Texas, with only short stays in South Carolina, Alabama, and Florida. Her passions include reading everything under the sun and sewing, although she doesn't get to sew much these days!.
Writing has always been a passion and she's enjoying every step of the journey!
This has an insane high rating so this could be a 'me' thing.
So essentially, this is about Bryson and Olivia. And how she's dealing with loving Bryson after Duncan's death.
I actually loved Bryson, and I felt so much for Olivia's pain. But ... I didn't like how it was handled.
You know when you read in dead spouse books that they eventually let go of their ex, now they're completely with someone new?
Here ... I never ever felt like Olivia let go of Duncan. Not once. Even in the epilogue he proposes using the ring Duncan got her because he's always going to be a part of them.
I guess I don't like the idea that Duncan will always be a huge part of her forever and she'll always love him but she also loves Bryson. I wish it moved in the direction that yes, while she was madly inlove with Duncan at one point, she got over her grief of losing him, and now while she'll always love Dyson, she is no long in love with him, but in love with Bryson.
Instead it kinda ends with the idea that she's always going to still be in love with Duncan. Which makes me think Bryson really got the short end of the stick. REALLY. And the fact she was still insecure in the epilogue and seeing Duncan's family's reaction to his proposal before accepting.
She should be proud and sure of him and not ashamed. She still felt guilt and shame till the end of the book.
And I also never got the feeling once that she got over her grief of losing him.
Then there were those horrid words she said to him .......
"I could never love you like I love him.... I gave you something he should've had (talking about her virginity) ... you asked if you were a surrogate? You're less than that. You could never replace a fraction of what Duncan was capable of. You're nothing to me. "
I get that the point of the story is Bryson putting her back together .... but there's only so far you can go, and after that ^ I needed her to GROVEL and APOLOGIZE. Instead he tells her he'll never let her go.
I imagined the scenario switched, if a guy said that to a girl and she reacted like that ... I'd say she's a pushover. So in many parts of the book, I felt Bryson was a pushover. Her words were disgusting to me and she had to live to consequences for them. She kept saying they weren't true ... but testimony to how much I didn't feel her love for him, I actually think some of what she said was true.
The fact that I finished reading this book with the thought that she loves Duncan 10000x more than Bryson, just means the author failed in showing me a real romance between Olivia and Bryson.
And how I felt after finishing the book? Bryson deserved better. In fact I had a hard time finding what he loved in her tbh :/ anyways. I felt he deserved better because it was obvious to me that Duncan was her first choice, and Bryson was her second. And I couldn't help but think Bryson deserved to be someone's first choice.
I've read many dead spouse / ex gf/ ex bf stories that I've given 5 stars too. This one as opposed to the others couldn't convince me of the love because to me, he was second choice completely.
Again though I want to reiterate that I am one of very few who dislikes it so please don't let me deter you from reading it :)

"I know I'm doing this to myself. For months, I've lived in self-pity, refusing to interact with anyone, and I've found solace in my reclusiveness, but now I'm questioning everything."
OMG. This book. I haven't had a good cry from a book in a long time, and this book totally did me in. Serious, I was bawling.
You can't help but just feel so bad for Ollie (Olivia). As shut-in with no want or reason to leave her apartment, until her new roommate arrives. Enter the uber amazing & total book boyfriend material, Bryson. Holy hell, I loved him.
In the beginning of the book, the reason for Olivia's depression is alluded to, but never quite told outright. Without giving too much away, just know that once you truly find out the reason...be prepared to begin a super sob-fest that lasted way longer than I can even care to admit.
This book tugged at the heartstrings throughout the entire book and I must say, I totally loved it. This is my first read by this author, and it definitely won't be the last!
This book blew me away. I could not put it down. I love Marie James' work, but she outdid herself with this one. The book was an emotional roller coaster of a journey, and will test even the strongest of hearts. The main characters were so easy to get wrapped up in. Bryson is hot athlete/player with a soft heart beneath his playboy exterior, and Ollie/Liv is carrying the weight of the world in her very broken heart. Bryson's determination and desire to help Liv truly live again are nothing less than swoon-worthy. Make sure you have tissues handy, as they will most definitely be needed. This is not your typical, boy meets girl, and they fall in love and live happily ever after scenario. This book is deep and meaningful and shows so much growth in Marie James as a writer. This is one of my favorite reads of the year!!!
I have been a big fan of Marie James's MC series but they are nothing on this book. This book broke me and put me back together again. This is the story of Olivia and her new roommate Bryson. Bryson listens to her video chats with Duncan everyday but can't stop himself from falling for the girl who is so in love with the voice she hears and sees on her computer screen everyday. This book has your emotions all over the place not knowing what is coming next not knowing what you will feel next. Your heart breaks right alongside Olivia's feeling the depths of depression she lives in. The hope you feel is Bryson who is trying to pull a smile from her face. This book will be more than a memory to me.
4.5 Stars ~SHY~ OMG, Bryson Daniels. Where have you been all my life??? Apparently in the mind of Marie James just waiting to come out. I'm not sure if I have given enough of a hint as to how I felt about the leading man in this book, but allow me to elaborate.
From the very beginning of this story, initially being introduced to Bryson, I was sold. Even with his bad boy ways and views on relationships, I still could see the silver lining and the diamond in the rough. His compassion, depth of understanding, and just the obvious capacity for love that he showed won me over with every chapter and every action.
"I can easily admit he's a better person - stronger than anyone I've ever known."
I couldn't have agreed with that more. There were moments where I wanted to scream at Olivia, her mom and Simone even to wake up and realize what a genuinely good guy he was. Maybe his past wasn't squeaky clean. Maybe he was sometimes a little too direct in his thoughts and actions with women until Olivia came along, but in my opinion his history helped make him who he is. And I appreciated every faucet of that. Not many men could or would have handled all the hurdles thrown in his way so wonderfully.
Olivia was a very damaged woman and her views on relationships and the walls she had up around herself made perfect sense. I just sometimes felt she was too harsh and hurtful towards Bryson. But her journey to bring down those walls and move forward through out this story was heartbreaking but beautiful at the same time.
In the end, I loved this story. I love this author's brain and what comes out of it. And I love, love, love Bryson.
I have a read Ms. James' Cerberus series and while I enjoy/ed the series...
I was absolutely blown away by this title. Completely blown. I may have found myself sitting in my idle car, reading for an hour not once, but twice today.
From the first moment this story opened, I was drawn in. You know from the start that there's something "wrong" with Olivia and you want to help her. Add in a meddling mother, a nosey twin, and you get yourself a roommate situation that will have your head spinning. And no worries, there's plenty of opportunities for your eyes to fix their dryness... You may just rock the puffy-face for a little while.
The feels in this book were absolutely there. I found myself needing to see Olivia/Ollie/Liv heal, just as I needed to see Bryson fight and win the battle that was his roommate. They have some rough patches but when it comes down to it... Bryson is definitely swoon worthy.
Some readers may become annoyed with Olivia's healing process--it's lengthy. But I personally found it to be true to her character and for everything she felt. Her anxiety with moving on was heartwrenching, just as the arms that were there to hold her were heartwarming.
I sure hope this one is becoming a series. There's plenty of set up, even if there's a three year gap in there ;)
*ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review.
I don't have enough words to describe how much I loved this book! It grabbed me from the very beginning and held me tight until the very end. As soon as Olivia and Bryson meet there's a definite attraction. Only problem is, Bryson has heard Olivia's video chats with Duncan. That makes her off limits in his eyes. But there's something about this girl.... she's a total neat freak and she refuses to leave the apartment, and intrigues him and he can't deny she's gotten under his skin. He also can't deny the jealousy he has towards Duncan and can't understand why he wouldn't be here with Olivia when it's obvious how much she needs him. Olivia is holding on by a thread... when she gets a roommate at her mother's insistence, she was not expecting a guy, let alone the Adonis at her door. Now her warring emotions have her fighting her demons that she wanted to keep buried.
Bryson will no doubt become everyone's new book boyfriend! Olivia is beautifully broken and watching Bryson put her back together gave me all the feels! Of course she has added other characters which will, no doubt, have people begging for more! I will happily read anything she chooses to add to this!!
Marie James has not written a book like this before and proves her writing skills are outstanding, this story will tear your heart apart, your tears will flow freely and constantly throughout, tears of sadness. tears of happiness and joy.
Olivia, Duncan & Bryson's story is full of sadness, lost, laughs, passion, trust and learning to live again you will be gripped until the very last page.
I do not what to go into detail about the story and the people involved because to do so may spoil the journey for you and it is one you need to travel yourself.
I am hoping we will get follow on books involving the other characters in this story.
I have read Marie James's MC series, and this book was nothing like it. I am glad that I was chosen to preview it. Olivia, a heart broken young woman and Bryson the young man who puts her back together.
This book was excellent! Well written and made me feel every emotion that Bryson and Olivia went through. She really pulled your heart strings with this one. If you need something different, and a all around feel good story, this one is for you.
A sweet but heart-wrenching romance set in college. Whilst I really enjoyed the book and loved the characters I really did need a more fleshed out epilogue. I would have preferred that a lot more than reading about Olivia's depression which was covered rather heavily. I get she was depressed and once the reveals were made I totally got why but as I said, more on their future would have bumped this up to a 5 star read.
I was given an ARC for an honest review. What a wonderfully beautiful, heartwarming, and heartbreaking story. If you have ever felt a loss so profound that you believe you will never ever get over, this story shows you that there is life after heartbreak. There can be love after loss.
Before I get started, I think I need to point out that MORE THAN A MEMORY is set in college, with Bryson and Olivia aged twenty and nineteen respectively. The synopsis makes no mention of the college setting, nor does the man on the cover look like he’s twenty years old. Don’t get me wrong, he looks hot and I would totally kick him out of bed only so that I could fuck him on the floor, but he looks too old to represent a twenty year old college student who’s not legally allowed to consume alcohol. Moving on, like I said the story is set in college and if I knew that at the time, I may not have considered reading it. College romances can be hard for me to connect with, especially when there’s too much drama and/or too much pushing and pulling between characters. There was a bit of that here, but thankfully not as much as I’ve read in other college romances.
I can’t say a lot about Olivia other than she’s a recluse suffering from severe depression. She hasn’t stepped outside her apartment in months and the only physical interaction she’s had is with her mother when she comes to visit. Normally a character like Olivia would frustrate me to tears with her huge mood swings, but not once was I frustrated with her. I put that down to reminding myself that she had depression, but I think it’s also because Marie James did such a good job of writing her that you can’t help but feel sad for her every time she suffers a setback.
Now Bryson on the other hand did frustrate me several times. I did like him, and I loved that he helped bring Olivia out of hiding, but sometimes he flat out treated her terribly. He tells himself he wants to help her and that he needs to be patient with her, but when she didn’t adjust as quickly as he’d like, or when she’d have a setback, he’d get angry and mean and would pull away from her. His night with Simone was done deliberately in front of her to humiliate and punish her, all because he wanted her but couldn’t have her. Quite honestly, I thought his mood swings were bigger than Olivia’s, but then I did have to remind myself that he was only twenty and clearly not equiped to handle her very well.
MORE THAN A MEMORY is told in dual POVs and is currently a stand-alone. I say currently because the story is left open for two of Bryson’s teammates to get their own story. I did enjoy the story and it certainly brought out some strong emotions; I was crying so much at one scene that I had to stop and take a break. It does come with a HEA, but I was left wondering one thing: Did Bryson go pro?
I'm at the point where words almost can't describe how much I love Marie, and how much her work continues to take my breath away. More Than A Memory is just another reason to absolutely love this woman! Her work is SO phenomenal and perfect! With that said this book is a good bit different from other's she's written, a bit softer. I like this softer side of her.
The amount of emotions that are emoted from this book are endless. You have to be someone who can take on those emotions and be ready to live, feel, and breathe these emotions to read this book. I personally FLOVE emotional books and I'm finding that Marie is becoming the emotional queen! Olivia has such a profound past, that you almost need to take a step back and re-evaluate when you find out all of it. With that re-evaluation I had so much more respect for her than I did from the beginning. And Bryson, he is so beyond perfect. From the beginning he seems like such a sweetheart and then when you get to know him better, you fall down the rabbit hole with Olivia. How can you not? He's so perfect and he's the perfect person to help her become herself again. Olivia is a caterpillar that needs to bloom, and he helps to sew her cocoon. That makes him SUCH a beautiful human being and such an amazing man and partner.
Thank you Marie for making such an amazing book <3
Oh my goodness what a touching, heartfelt, loving book. I didn't want it to end. My heart broke for Olivia a million times over.
When you love someone so much and the unthinkable happens how does one move on? Olivia struggles with that on a daily basis. She has fallen into a routine of compulsive behavior and secludes herself away from the real world.
Bryson, Olivia's new roommate that she fought her Mom on about him moving in, is the complete opposite of her. He is messy, unorganized and very outgoing. Can he be what Olivia needs to get out of her depression.
There is a definite attraction that Bryson feels towards Olivia. Something has stirred in him that has never surfaced before. He wants to help her overcome her sadness and hurt but how does one compete with a memory that one is holding onto so strong?
Marie James has brought to life a story of love, hope and faith and unfortunately heartbreak. More Than A Memory had me in tears at times both happy and sad. I truly enjoyed this story and hope there is more. HINT...HINT...I would love to know more about Liam and JJ!
I've read the Hale Series by Marie James so I was kind of surprised when this one was about college kids and quite emotional. With a non traditional love triangle Olivia, Duncan and Bryson are full of emotions. From sexy, beautiful moments to absolute full on depression. From lying by omission to words of love. Olivia is riddled with depression. She's dropped out of school, doesn't leave the house, and more than a touch OCD...but that gives her a semblance of control. We get glimpses of Duncan through online conversation, and Bryson is new to Oregon State and Olivia's new room mate (per her mothers request). Feelings fester, feelings blossom and misunderstanding abounds. This was wonderfully well written and it was hard to not fall in love with Bryson. The storyline was well done and very engaging. Once I started I didn't want to stop. Read for hours...teared up a time or two..and was smiling by the time is was over. I'm hoping we're looking forward to an Emerson/Liam book!!! 4.5 Stars
WOW, I just can't get enough of Marie James! The blurb doesn't tell you just what this story is about, and I'm not going to spoil it and tell you; must read it for yourself.
Olivia is in love with Duncan, but she can only see him on the computer, and it has taken over her life. This separation is taking its toll on Olivia; she barely eats, stopped going to school, she sits by her computer and waits for when its time to chat with Duncan. Her mother decides that its time for a roommate, and this is where Bryson comes into the picture.
Bryson see Olivia and at first he keeps his distance, but slowly Olivia creeps under his skin, the need to see her more, the need to be with her, but he is respectful of Duncan, until he has to make her see that he is in front of her and Duncan isn't.
To say that this was amazing doesn't even give it enough praise. The twist you never see coming, you keep asking yourself if Bryson will get Olivia to see the truth. The sexy times were incredibly hot. 5 stars all the way!
I may need my own Bryson. Is there a factory that puts out mega hot sensitive guys? Being a baseball player isn't a requirement but the physique is a definite plus!
You may have gathered from my spontaneous lusting that Bryson is indeed, extra hot. He is patient, kind, and a saint compared to most boys his age.
More Than A Memory is a tragic romance that will warm your heart. Ollie lives in an isolated bubble of misery. She's forced to take on a roommate. Who knew she would hate the changes he forces so much?...Ok, well anyone would guess it, true. But Ollie, didn't- so there!
Ollie didn't see him coming. She may have watched him go though- seriously, dude is a collegiate baseball player, who wouldn't watch that walk away. That is until him walking away hurt her too much.
I wanted to hug them all through this story. So many affected by the changes in Ollie...so much despair. Loss of hope. The situation is tragic but life goes on...for some. Others just exist.
What an unbelievably wonderful story. Heart-wrenching, smile provoking, giggle inducing, heartwarming story all rolled up into one powerhouse of a book. These characters are not only well developed, but the are ones that you will find yourself holding on to, never wanting to let them go. The emotions that Ollie goes through during this book will have you keeping the tissue box close by, and it's Bryson who will steal your heart.
The storyline is one that will move you beyond words as you read the story of Olivia and Duncan. You will wrap your arms around Ollie and Bryson and hold them close as they move toward her healing each and every day, and you will find yourself holding your breath as she takes each and every agonizing step into her future and you will rejoice with her and Bryson as she succeeds a little more each day.
This is an amazing book about loss and love and one that you should not pass up. Highly, highly recommend this book.
OH JUST WOW.. I will state my review may be a little bias as I just LOVE Marie James's style of writing in her MC Books. I knew this wasn't an MC book when I saw the synopsis but I wanted try another genre of Ms. James's books. May I say I am SO GLAD I TOOK THE CHANCE.
More Than A Memory is very well written and the characters will all but come to life as you read. Olivia and Bryson wrap their way around your heart and senses. My emotions were so intense as I read about this wonderful couple and their journey. A Journey of Loss, Pain, Friendship and Love. A Journey of strength to just hold on and the strength to fight for what you need and want. I can't say enough how gripping and heartfelt this storyline is; just Awesome. 2 Thumbs up Ms. James for a story that is not to be missed. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Olivia is living alone until her mother picks out a roommate for her - Baseball player, Bryson. Both are attracted to each other but Olivia lives in isolation and Bryson believes she is unattainable. I am struggling to described the plot of this book without giving too much away. I loved it so much and want everyone to read it as I did and get to feel all the emotions I did - sadness, anger, and joy. I can honestly say I have never read anything like it and I mean that in the best way possible. It is a great mix of steamy, emotional, and heartwarming. Bryson is so masculine but kind and gentle too. Olivia is lost but there is hope in her and her journey to find it is beautiful.
I just can't quite put together coherent sentences when it comes to this book. It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Marie James and her beautiful writing. This story was so much more than I expected. It takes so much to surprise me and surprise me this book did! This book is full of emotion, love, angst (who doesn't love a good dose of that??) and surprise.
Go get this! Now! This book is life changing and makes you question yourself! It's so good!
My lady boner has grown... wait, what? Yep, I said it. It's pointing at you, Ms. James!
I had no clue what I was getting when I chose to read this book. I was not prepared for the rollercoaster of emotions, that’s for sure. Bryson and Olivia’s story is sweet, playful, romantic and even a little funny here and there. It’s what I’m not going to tell you that made this book so amazing and good. It was different. I haven’t read anything with a storyline quite like this one. It was something new and unique and I loved that. I loved the whole thing and especially Bryson for the way he loved and supported Olivia. This is a book that will stick with me long after its read! Loved it!

More Than A Memory by Marie James is an emotional, ugly cry, laugh out loud book BUT it is so worth it! Oh My Goodness! It is one of the best books I've read in a while. It deals with depression, and all that goes with it.
Olivia and Bryson are amazing!
This is a complex story that knows no bounds. Just know going into it, you will need your Kleenex and several hours because you won't want to put this book down once you start reading.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. The writing was great and the chemistry between the characters was amazing. This book took me on an emotional roller coaster of epic proportions. This was a great book Marie does a great job of sucking you into the story from the beginning. Marie’s writing just keeps getting more and more amazing as she develops as an author. I have yet to read a book by her that has not left me wanting more. I highly recommend this book!
I'm a huge fan of Marie James, I've loved her MC series and love a sports romance but this book is so much deeper and it's full of emotion.
This story will pull at your heartstrings and have you crying ugly tears but also have you laughing out loud. Marie James is a very talented author and this book shows just how versatile her writing style can be.
This is a beautiful story of love it's incredibly well written. It does deal with depression and may not be any easy read for some people.
Bryson is a well meaning, sweet, loving and caring guy but he's also confident, stubborn and determined.
Olivia is lost and had cordoned herself off from the world. This is a really amazing story of tough love and rediscovering your sense of self and finding true love!
These characters are incredibly complex and endearing. Their story pulls you in from the very first page and you won't want to put it down. I really hope that in the future we get the stories of Bryson's baseball team mates. I'd love to see more of this couple in future books.
Wow!!! I'm going to say that this is by far one of the best books I've read this year!!! So heartbreakingly beautiful.... Olivia's grief was so thick I choked on it ... I really felt her pain in the book. Bryson was such a sweet cocky stud!!! He was the only one who could give Ollie the tough love she needed to start living her life!! Loved this book so freaking much and really hope some of the other characters get books as well!!!

This story was nothing like I thought it would be, it was so much more. This was one young woman's journey and the wonderful man that wanted to be by her side. I experienced many emotions and the hero did do one of those stupid things, but regretted it. I was curious as to what had happened to get Ollie to the place she was and loved the way that was slowly revealed to us. Great epilogue too.
"Home Run," she insists "A home run isn't what I want from you, Liv." Wow!! What a powerful but yet emotional ride. There is something about a heartfelt, emotional read that tears every barrier down you have. This book does just that-- touches in in the most crucial organ of your body--THE HEART!! Olivia is barely living. Living in the shadows of the past. She is a broken soul who seems to think nothing in life now is meaningful. Bryson is an arrogant cocky baseball player. He is in desperate need of a place to crash and when he sees an apartment for rent with a room mate he jumps all on it--seeking out his sister since he can't go over there due to practice. Never thinking about his room mate being a girl--after his sister comes back and says the apartment is a perfect fit--just as messy as he is he thinks -- PERFECT--but that all changes when he knocks on the door and everything he was told was so far from the truth. Olivia refuses to accept she needs a room mate but after her mother insists on it or she will lose everything she gives in but when Bryson knocks on her door and introduces himself as Bryson Daniels, her new room mate she loses it. She tries to do everything she can to get her mother to change her mind but nothing works and she must give in. Olivia ensures Bryson knows all the rules up front and makes a vow she will not let any slide. But what she doesn't realize is Bryson will forever change her life in more ways than she knows. "Does He know your eyes follow every move I make? Have you shared with him that you practically drool at the sight of me? Is he aware that I get hard every time you lick your perfect f$ing lips? Have you shared all that with him?" After settling into what he thinks is a nightmare, Bryson can't help but think of the beauty in the other room. Her actions are weird. Her words are vague and there is a mystery to her that he can't ignore. He wants her and he knows she wants him too. He can see it in her eyes and feel it in the air. But after coming home from a practice he overhears a conversation that truly changes his motives. "I miss you so much. Not as much as I miss you." He knows just how unavailable she is now but he isn't one for competition unless it's on the baseball field but this is one time he may just "bend his own rules" -- Though it will heed every one of Olivia's. There is something about her he can't quiet grasp and he can't let that go. He goes on about trying to be her friend and get along with her but one moment --one day changes all that when he hears Duncan break her--shattering what was left. He vows to be there for her no matter what--but when the truth comes out and he finds out who Duncan is and what happened-- can he compete with someone that's more than a memory? Olivia isolates herself from everyone and the only interaction she has is with Bryson and her mother. Her mother has done all she can and really thinks Olivia has lost it but Bryson doesn't. He sees the fire in her and he vows to be there but also vows to find out just what is going on. After truths are revealed Bryson sees just how shattered she is and why in the beginning she wanted nothing to do with him and baseball but after time with her he starts to thaw at her frozen shell and finally bring the Liv he knows is there out. He promises her she will never have to go through any more pain but things aren't so easy and when everything is tested can they survive at all costs? "Am I just a placeholder? A surrogate because you can't have the man you truly desire?" Things get testy and heated between these two because Bryson wants to help Olivia but Olivia can't seem to get over the past. But things about Bryson's past test what they have built and he feels like everything he has worked so hard to make happen is going to be a waste in the end. "You are the only woman I see, the only woman I want to spend every waking hour with. I don't want you to doubt that. I don't want you to doubt me. I'm here, Liv." Marie has out done herself with MTAM and I was at a loss of words after having read this story. Olivia and Bryson's story is troubled and emotional but the way they connect from the beginning shows just how powerful they can be and Marie gives us a journey through these two that have you melting in your panties and crying like a baby all at the same time. This is a remarkable story about love and obstacles and how to fight for what you want but fight to save yourself. A 5 star read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Olivia 'Ollie' Dawson has suffered a devastating lose for someone just 19 years old. And for the past 8 months, she's lived in depression, alone, hold up in her apartment, pushing everyone away. That is until her mother foists a new roommate upon her. To her surprise, that roommate comes in the form of smokin' hot, 20 year old, Bryson Daniels; new short stop for Oregon State.
Bryson Daniels left it to his twin sister, Emerson, to help him find a new place. He's just as shocked when 'Ollie' turns out to be a cute little blonde that he can't keep his eyes off of.
But Bryson has a very firm rule; he doesn't poach another guys girl, and 'Ollie' is definitely taken. Through the paper thin walls of the apartment, he can hear Olivia and Duncan talking to each other over the computer... But are things what they seem?
First, Olivia does everything in her power to avoid the sexy, stunningly built Bryson. But soon realizes he brings more to her life than she ever thought possible. Bryson doesn't want to care for Olivia the way he does, but there is a loneliness and sadness behind her eyes that he just can't deny. He wants her to be his and soon finds out that when it comes to Olivia and Duncan's relationship, he hasn't got a clue.
Bryson decides to do everything he can to help make Olivia whole again. He is willing to sacrifice his own emotional standing to help her be who she was and is meant to be. Olivia, on the other hand, has to decide if Bryson is the one to bring her the future that Duncan wants for her.
This was an amazingly well written story. There were so many parts of the book that had me laughing out loud; from Liam and his "seafood nut salad" and Emerson's "necrotizing fasciitis" claims, to Olivia's OCD lists of rules. Then there were times that had my crying so hard, from Duncan's live social media posting, to some of the things that Bryson said to Olivia in hope of helping her be happy again. If it weren't for giving away the spoilers, I would write them all here. They were so lovely.
The funny thing is that, I'm on the author's ARC reader list and, for some reason I almost missed out on getting the book. It was on my TBR list because I had wanted to read it, but for some reason it hadn't shown up on my kindle. If she hadn't contacted me to tell me the date the review was supposed to be due, I would have just eventually bought it and read it. But as life gets in the way, who know when that would have been. I'm so glad I didn't miss out on telling people how great this story is.
If I loved it so much, why not give it a full 5 stars. Well, there are a couple of reasons, which are completely subjective and all my own:
But none of that would ever keep me from reading this story. It was so good. If you look at my full review you will see a couple of status updates where I was either laughing like a hyena or wailing in grief.
Definite Recommend- if you don't mind laughing one moment and then having your heart ripped out the next. It was cathartic for me in a lot of ways as this year has been plagued with ups and downs, so I needed something like this that brought both elements of life into a lovely story. I wish I could find a man like Bryson. Read the book and you will know what I mean.
Thank you Marie for making sure I got the ARC. It was a fantastic read.
