What Happens in Tomorrow World?: A Modern-Day Fable About Navigating Uncertainty

Rate this book
Bestselling author and TEDx speaker Jordan Gross’s What Happens in Tomorrow World? offers a poignant, relatable, and necessary parable for navigating uncertainty.

What Happens in Tomorrow World? tells the story of the prizes found in a traditional arcade claw machine game, and what happens when one special player, Cayla “Catch” Alltoys, plays their game.

As Catch maneuvers the claw over, down, and around, four of the prizes face their own existential crisis of uncertainty as they face the possibility of being removed from their safe environment and thrust into the unknown “real” world. Each prize reacts in one of the four typical responses most people have to facing uncertainty. And it is through those reactions, and subsequent actions, that they—and we—learn how our own response to uncertainty can either help or harm ourselves, those around us, and society as a whole.

An urgently needed instrument for managing the anxiety and ambiguity we all face in our daily lives, this book will help readers thrive in challenging situations.

Through this memorable story, you’ll learn:

-How to embrace the uncertainty all around us
-Why no one response works in every single uncertain situation
-Why various personality types require different responses
-How to identify the types of people who do well in uncertainty
-Why it’s crucial to prevent a negative response
-Why those who are hyper-aware of uncertainty thrive in it
-Why it’s important to take action, no matter how uncertain you feel

In the spirit of Gibran’s The Prophet, What Happens in Tomorrow World? presents readers a modern-yet-timeless, unique, and useful toolbox on how to confront and manage the overwhelming amount of uncertainty we face every day.

Jordan Gross is a true inspiration. This book demonstrates the power of story telling and how it can carry us through difficulties. During these unprecedented times he’s harnessed the power of “Imagitivetation” and written an entertaining book, that’s chalked full of wisdom. The book explores the themes of approaching the unknown and uncertainty in a digestible and fun way. I found myself loving each of the characters and learning about myself while reading the story. I love that Jordan has based the characters on his grandparents: that totally warms my heart. There are powerful and fun reflection prompts at the end of the book including a “mad lib” (always my favourite!) style imagitivetating your dream life exercise. Thank you Jordan for making the world a better place with your words!

Every morning I wake up at 4 am to read a bit before writing. This Tuesday, when I picked up Jordan’s book, I forgot the “bit” part and just kept on reading. For two and a half hours, the story of those four little toys was able to make me travel to a wonderful place called Tomorrow world. I found myself saying “what’s next” after each page until I reached the end.

Through the design of a story that can be mistaken for a children’s book, Jordan was able to narrate a story full of insights on uncertainty, each toy representing one of the responses we sometimes adopt toward certain events of our life: the pessimist, the optimist, the sage, or the chill guy.

More than addressing the subject, he stepped onto the how (do we react?) and the why (do we react that way?), and then the what (can we do about it?). Throughout the book, he’s not telling you what you should do. He’s instead enabling you to reframe your perception of uncertainty. He's showing you how to embrace it instead of fearing it, to prepare for it instead of jumping headfirst, to accept that what will happen will happen, and finally, to learn from either outcome.

Growing up, I was never able to "just stay chill" in front of a situation. Caring is too much in my blood. I always went back and forth from pessimist to optimist. And just quite recently, I was able to gain a tiny bit of wiseness. But I still have lots of work to do.

If I continue to write, I’ll end up spoiling you a beautiful reading time. So, to finish, this is a book written to help. Read away!

Self improvement can get quite dull with all the regular self-help advice. However, in this book, Jordan uses the power of storytelling to teach lessons on one ubiquitous problem of our lives—uncertainty.

The book has 4 characters who have different ways of dealing with uncertainty. When you read them talk, you can almost identify yourself. Hence, the book provides grounds for introspection! I loved that.

The story is also filled with a lot of creativity which makes it so much fun to read. I didn’t want to put it down.

In short, Jordan has done a great job. And I look forward ro reading more of his book.

This is such a heartwarming book, something you wouldn't want to miss. I read this under the lockdown and this book lifted me up. The characters are so cool and excerpts from Jordan's childhood melted my heart.

Don't even think twice, you need to buy this right away!

Just when you think there are enough self improvement books in the world, this one makes you feel wrong about your judgment! Loved the storytelling and the lessons between the lines.

If you like personal development but dislike how preachy it can be sometimes, then this book is right up your alley. Through masterful storytelling, Jordan Gross introduces us to four mindsets (optimism, pessimism, indifference, and stoicism) we often see when it comes to uncertainty, offering tips on how to better deal with tomorrow.

Moreover, he includes thought-provoking exercises at the end of the book for those who want to take the reading experience up a notch and want to delve deep into how to improve their response to uncertainty. Now more than ever, learning how to face uncertain outcomes is a skill that can change your life--or at least save you lots of unwarranted stress and sleepless nights.

In short, I highly recommend you check Jordan's book and don't forget to do the exercises at the end. Happy reading!

I started reading Jordan's book knowing it'd be good because I already enjoyed his writings. I didn't expect to devour it.

This easy-to-read book takes a simple story and turns it into a lesson for each one of us. Every sentence makes you curious about the next one. Each character, while simple on the surface, depicts traits we all share. They make us reflect on the way we've lived our lives and show us there's always a different way to look at things.

The few exercises at the end bring the book to an even higher level as you take time to consider your own choices and reflect on Jordan's "Imagitivetation" concept.

I couldn't put the book down when I started it and I'm sure nobody can either. Then again, that might be my Opti perspective. Read it and you won't regret it. That, I can assure you.

Home as metaphor...

Follow the adventure of four unlikely friends who engage fear and are grateful for a different outcome than they had anticipated. From the author of "Journey to Cloud Nine," Jordan Gross once again takes us on a bumpy ride from past fears and challenges and launches us into a future of probable results.

We join four "attitudes" on their individual and collective mission to discover the future before it happens. Fear and uncertainty are their guides on this perilous journey, with an antagonist like no other.

It is a small book that one can finish in a single evening, but it carries many lessons, some of which most of us can relate.

It is an amazing and captivating story with a lot of aha moments and life lessons (like "the response that matters the most is the one that promotes love, hope, and faith").
I read it so fast because it was so very captivating! The topic of uncertainty is one of my favorite topics because I believe there is so much potential when we learn to confidently face uncertainty and make the best out of it. This story helps us to do that. And every personality type can find something that resonates with them in this story.
And I love the "Imaginativitation" exercise Jordon has at the end of the book! It is easy to apply and necessary to do for everybody.

Jordan has crafted a beautiful tale with this one, packing an important, timely point about uncertainty. It's refreshing to see someone go off the rails of the preachy, "do this because I say so" style of self-help books.

Instead, Jordan uses creative storytelling. His writing is approachable and engaging. You don't feel like dragging through pages. You don't feel like you are reading a pointless story and hoping the author gets to the point—the story is the point. They are one.

It's an awesome, fresh take on self-help, rid of all that ego-pumped rhetoric and boring, ghost-written-like style we're all fatigued from.

Definitely worth reading.

What Happens in Tomorrow World seeped right through me and touched the child in me that's enclosed within the walls of adulthood. I wanted to be one of those characters. I wanted to be a part of their conversation. I found myself reading out the dialogues out loud with expressions. Can't remember the last time I read a parable as good as this!
Apart from being very engaging and fun, the story has some really valuable lessons. Lessons not to be forgotten.
It definitely is a must read for all.

Wow....

This is a gem of a book. The intention of this book is beautiful and Jordan does an unbelievable job of making the reader feel close to his characters - his grandparents. It’s as though Jordan was telling me the story in person.

I love the uniqueness of the book too. The fact that there are questions at the end is excellent.

One thing, out of the many, I enjoyed was how the book opened with small talk on weather and simple conversations between the grandparents. It sets the scene. Even the Cleveland joke when introducing it was hilarious.

This is a success of a book. Whether 1 or a billion people read it. It’s bound to have an effect on you if you read it.

It did on me :)

The biggest common enemy that we all face is uncertainty. It's shrewd, unpredictable, and surprisingly loyal. In today's age, anyone who can outmaneuver uncertainty can live life to its fullest. This book acted as my therapist. It helped me understand that we are all distinct when it comes to handling stress. It taught me that the beauty of life is in fact in being unpredictable. The book is a savior for those who look for meaning in the most distraught of situations. It teaches you to thrive when you think you can't even survive.

This book was a pleasure to read- The characters in the book will have you thinking about which of your friends and family members have the personality traits of each of the main characters, but more importantly, will have you examining your own personality to see where improvements can be made!

Jordan is an amazing person and a storyteller. I am happy to know him in person and read his books. "What Happens in Tomorrow World" is a story full of wisdom that you are to discover yourself! Yet, it's fun to read.

The book was so gripping I've read it in three sittings. It contains many powerful life lessons, including:

"We never know what’s going to happen. We never know what’s going to make a difference. But we must do our best to make others feel safe and loved anyway. "

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. If I win, I win. If I lose, I lose. But, no matter what, I learn, I learn.”

Definitely recommend reading and a good mood for you is guaranteed!

Tomorrow World is unique and exciting, and given the current climate climate, it is an incredibly poignant piece that helped me to assess my outlook and think about my approach to the problems that I face everyday. The arcade will represent something different for each reader, but we all can use it to create better todays and tomorrows.
