A red dwarf system bursts into our universe. Is it merely a star system or is it something else entirely?
This frequently humorous space opera adventure opens on the crest of a gravity tsunami, when a red dwarf star system punches through the fabric of space-time and barrels toward the Milky Way Galaxy. The Early Warning Centre can only watch helplessly as colonized space braces for impact.
The dire situation takes an unforeseen twist in this science fantasy when an SOS transmission from a long-lost experimental starship, The Invictus, is traced to the sole planet orbiting the red dwarf.
Alexandra, Post Office Marshal and living goddess, is in an action-packed race against time when she is conscripted to retrieve either The Invictus itself or, failing that, its top-secret data, before the ship is lost to imminent galactic collision, or worse, falls into the wrong hands.
Thank you very much to the author for sending me a free copy in exchange for an honest review!
This book is about the Goddess Alexandra, a soldier who doesn’t really adhere to the rules set to her. She is needed by the government to lead a mission when a rogue solar system tears through the universe.
This was a really short and enjoyable read that I finished in one sitting. Humour is a central aspect in this book, with the characters dropping one liners in serious situation, and reminds me of Guardians of the Galaxy. Which I’m not complaining about.
My only problems with this book was that things were sometimes over-explained in a way that I don’t really want a book to do. I’m here for fun and to be entertained, not to be taught something about space.
The author also makes the mistakes of using too many synonyms for the word ‘said’. I won’t lie, it is something I have done at times (being a self-proclaimed wannabe writer) but I like to think I’ve gotten rid of that habit.
For example: “Hello, Susan,” Betty greeted, “How are you?” “Very good,” Susan replied, “Such a lovely day, don’t you think?” “Oh, yes,” Betty remarked, “I love summer!” “So do I!” Susan revealed.
Instead of using these synonyms, I would advise inserting actions between the sentences or just writing the spoken sentences on their own.
But other than that, this was an enjoyable read I would recommend to someone looking for something fun and entertaining!
That’s it!
What’s your opinion on novellas?
I don’t really read them; I prefer longer books in a series, but I do occasionally read novellas.
Clever science fiction The story is an intense science fiction about a rogue Goddess who is now charged with protecting the solar system when another star system collides through it. The story was very impressive. Despite being science fiction, the way the scenes were described and explained, was thorough. I liked the humour in the scenes. While the rationale and the explanations of all the characters were explained in various chapters, some of the choices of the characters were hard to understand. But it was a science fiction, first and foremost. The story moves at a steady pace, starting with the crew which stole to the space ship and goes on to the Goddess who now has to protect the solar system. Enjoyed the story.
This novella forms part one of an eight-part story series, designed to be read in sequence, so you can expect this to end on a cliffhanger leading directly into the next instalment of the story.
The story is sci-fi action and while I struggled to follow the plot at points – it is quite science-dense in places – I loved the characters and dialogue and found them strong enough to carry me through the more technical moments. The living goddess, Alexandra, and Fiddlehead particularly stood out here, along with Dr Rising [shudders]. Alexandra is a wonderful character and I would happily read more just for more of her!
I waited until the end of the book to read the footnotes from the Priestess narrator that were sprinkled throughout and I wish I hadn’t, as they were brilliant… full of humour reminiscent of Terry Pratchett in his early days. And, just like Terry Pratchett’s novels, the footnotes are not necessary to the plot at all but do add character- and world-building details that enrichen the background of the plot.
This is a witty, clever introduction to this new sci-fi series and books 2-7 are already out so you can have a bit of a binge-read instead of having to wonder what happens next. Remember to read them in order, and with the footnotes as inserted, for best effect!
Alexandra Forever is a series of 8 fantasy novellas. The narrative follows a continuous and unified form of events that follow throughout the 8 books. Each book ends with a ‘To be continued”, creating a great layout of a story plot, which finalizes at the end of the series.
In book one, the adventure begins with a massive tsunami caused by a dwarf star passing through the Milky Way. Space prepares for impact, but what they are in for is something different than what they thought.
Alexandra, the protagonist of this fascinating sci-fi story, is a living goddess. She works as the Post Office Marshall. A rigorous and critical mission sends her off to retrieve something top secret, and that is when the exploration begins.
The literature is written with great skill. The story is filled with intense sci-fi and fantasy material, and the pace is steady and captivating. Everything put together creates a perfect beginning to a series. The character buildup was also creatively placed together. Many sideline stories were happening at the same time, which made the story complex; however, that did not take away the ordeal too much away from the mainline. I recommend this book to fantasy lovers and look forward to reading more from this author.
I was provided with an advanced copy of this novel and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
Alexandra Forever 2291: The Strange Matter of the Red Dwarf is a fun, intriguing sci-fi story I'm excited to see where the story goes next and what the author has to offer. I loved the characters, plot and pacing, but a few writing choices I didn't agree with. I'm definitely going to read the second novella when it's released and I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun, action-packed science fiction book that's an easy read.
This is the first Sci-fi book I am reading. Enthralling and Easy read. Well researched with illustrations and footnotes. Good character development and balances nicely moving the story forward while giving you a chance to know the characters. This novella is the first in an eight-part space-opera dramedy. Can't wait to read the next installment!
Honestly I only got 10% through it before I couldn’t anymore. I love scifi but this was just too much. I don’t feel like your world should need footnotes every couple pages.
