Brilliant. There were so many things I enjoyed about the book, especially how unique the plot is. I also enjoyed the diverse range of characters, especially Nelson. Overall a very entertaining read.
Nelson Frosur was certainly ambitious, he wanted his own piece of the world to call home, however just not one that belonged to another country. He had found an island which he named Nostoria Aeternum, and now he wanted to fill it with like minded people that shared his vision. Frosur had the funds to build the infrastructure, and he had a submarine to defend their new home. The main question would be if acquiring nuclear warheads was such a good idea. From start to finish this was a very enjoyable story. If you enjoy Thrillers, then this is certainly a book worth reading. 5/5 Star Rating.

A complex action thriller that reminded me of Wilbur Smith or Clive Cussler. This would work well for a screenplay for a new blockbuster. Well established believable characters that draw you into the absorbing narrative leaving you gasping. More of the same please.

What will the world come to?

From the very beginning of the book to the end, it's none stop action and that continues mostly all the way through the book. You have a great protagonist and antagonist in this book and you can either love them or hate them. Gotta say it was quite brave of the author to include certain characters but I guess that gives the book that bit more suspense. Look forward to seeing a book two.

Great reading

With the current events in the world the premise of this story took on extra significance. A micronation obtains nuclear warheads and leverages them to start a world War. The NATO agents tasked with recovering the nuclear weapons are led all over the world to trace them down and while that is happening Russia starts attacking different countries. Great reading thanks

I am still shocked at how bad this book by Robert Hrzic was. I chose this book because the idea of a new independent state sounded interesting and there were lots of positive reviews on Goodreads. However the plot is laughably simplistic. The one dimensional characters and dialogue are tedious and the authors main aim seems to be to try and include as many three letter model numbers for various military weapons as possible. Imagine reading endless variations on lines like... 'The soldier fired his XYZ-54 and rounds of 0.456mm ammunition hit the target. The target was dead".

The geopolitics is bizarre and incongruous - why would Russia and China combine their militaries? It makes no sense to anyone with a basic knowledge of politics or history. In the mind of the author they are 'bad guy commies' and can just be lumped together I suppose. Why would one nuclear warhead be compatible with another nations missile? It is totally daft and unbelievable. The female characters are either bossy managers or simpering housewives. The male characters are gung ho cowboys who the author allows to just make up a childish plan as they go along.

There are so many plot holes and inexplicable oversights in Rogue Flag that I could go on for a long time. The vocabulary and sentence structure is truly strange. Sentences constantly describe the action and then tell the reader what just happened. "The Russians were going to launch a nuclear attack. Things were getting serious." I mean even my 10 year old knows to write in a show, don't tell, style.

Anyway, if it is not already clear, I strongly advise you not to read this absolute junk.

Some guy wants to form his own country. Not a problem. There are a number of micro-countries currently petitioning the UN for recognition. Some can make a better case than others, but there is a procedure.

This guy wants to use nuclear weapons to safeguard his country's borders, resorting to theft and murder to get them.

This leads SENTINEL, a multi-national investigative unit gets on the case.

Pretty good, with a perspective different than the run of the mill novel of this type.

This book is near impossible for me to sum up!

A twisted, psychotic politician steals a dozen nuclear warheads from the world’s strongest countries and aims them right back at them. Nelson Frosur is determined to start his own sovereign state— or watch the world burn. Maybe even both, really. His actions throw the fragile world into chaos in the form of a second Cold War that’s too close for comfort to a true hot war. It’s up to Connor O’Hara, a station chief for NATO, and his team to stop the world from collapsing around them.

This fast-paced political thriller kept me on my toes during every twist and turn! I thought I knew what was going to happen, and then the opposite would come about instead. When victory was on the horizon, Hrzic snatches it out from under your feet over and over again. He has managed to paint a gruesome, realistic world were politicians are too greedy for their own good and mankind has no shortage of weaknesses and make plenty of mistakes.

This is a very well-written, well-researched book. Hrzic knows his stuff, that’s for sure. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I don’t know that political thrillers are my favorite genre. That being said, I enjoyed the book thoroughly and do wonder where book two will take us.

This is a political thriller, which throws light into a topic that can really make us think about the fact that how easily can war break in. It's set in a fictious tone, yet there are a lot of events that can turn into reality, and I don't think it's too far. Author have focused on filling up even the minute details so that no one of us will be in a confused state.

The politicians point of view is brought up in a realistic manner. The fact that I would like to mention is the way the book is written, with some good examples and crystal clear narration. The author have done an amazing job in bringing up this book.

The negative part I felt is there was a bit of lag. Somewhere in between the pace wasn't as good as how it began, but it does catch up. Obviously it's a page turner.
It's a must read for a person who's into political thrillers.

From the title and cover, I really didn't know what to expect. However I found the book to be an interesting description of what had intentionally developed into an international military nuclear confrontation. The author's many references to, and involvement of, military and national civilian agencies added greatly to its authenticity. Throughout the book there were many instances of vividly portrayed danger and excitement. It was an interesting, fairly rapid paced and intriguing read. Would definitely recommend.

Poor Technical Editing

Most annoying is the poor technical editing. No misspellings, but there are missing or extra words. Some problems with punctuation. Paragraphs were inconsistently indented. Difficult to read in night view (i.e., white on black).
I found the dialogue a bit unbelievable, facile.
I doubt some of the political and military responses.

Be prepared to be taken around the world in this non-stop action cold war thriller.
Rogue flag shows the fragility of world politics in a book that outlines the oh-so easy possibility of a second cold war.
The book is professionally written with a crisp, no frills, writing style. It is very thought provoking as the story centres around the main character Connor (the Irishman) O’Hara and his search for nuclear warheads, at times you question his decisions at other times you agree with his decisions but you are always in there with him.
The book is western focussed and follows the fragile world of politics from the Whitehouse to No10 to the North Atlantic where the author has some scenes that are easily pictured in your mind, with actions being followed on different frigates and destroyers, even the missiles are detailed KH-55s KD-88s etc. Adding to the authenticity to the storyline.
The book had the classic range from quiet spots to raging action scenes, which takes you on the classic rollercoaster ride we all enjoy.
I would strongly recommend that anybody reading this review should take a copy to read the book and challenge yourself against the possibility of a second cold war occurring.

Rogue Flag is a spectacular war story that clearly lays out the current potential for a new Cold War. The author's ability to describe the scenes, along with the equipment, ships, missiles, etc. makes the reader, even a novice of military language and maneuvering, feel as if they are watching a live scene. Without adding spoilers, the author details events, surrounding the intense service of the Main Character, Mr. O' Hara, an Irishman in the military. There is a particular madman on the World's stage who is wanting to create terror and havoc amongst several World Powers. The Author did not shy away from drawing attention to today's World Leaders and the political turmoil growing in the Western World. The reader will be thrown into a world of realistic events, such as potential threats against World security and rouge terrorists while world leaderships' communications break down and add to the already growing tension. This book will be a favorite of present and past military personnel, as well as people who like action/thrillers. There are action and thrills throughout the book to keep the reader engaged and guessing what will happen next. Highly Recommended.

Whoa, I don't even know where to start with this book...

I must say that this is one of the best books I have read recently and it will indeed be marked as one of my all time favourites. In all honesty, I was a little bit hesitant to pick this book up, especially since I have read many thrillers as of late that didn't live up to the hype (at least not my personal one) but I have nothing but praise for this book.

Intriguing and impossible as it may be to percieve the possibility of a new Cold War (or a Cold War part 2), this book manages to explore the concept while also taking you to the path of intrigues, conflicts, betrayals and plot twists that characters endure. Not to give too much away, I strongly recommend this book and hope to see more from the author.

The author of this book, Robert Hrzic seems to have this sole book in his bibliography, so I presume he is a debut author, however I would love to have an insight to his person as well as what more he has to offer in the literary world.

Overall, strong recommendation of this book, 5/5!

What a waste of time,

This storyline was so inept and lame I’m actually quite angry at myself for not tossing it out after the first couple of chapters.

"Rouge flag" was a wild ride. To put it mildly.

It was a pleasurable enough read although it has some inaccuracies that are hard to pass through, especially if you're someone who knows a bit about politics and is (hopefully) trying to form an unbiased opinion.

It is evident that the author is heavily influenced by the western viewpoint of the geopolitical spectre, and the reason probably lies within the fact that he (and I presume) is from a western country himself. However, I guess all of that could be forgiven in the name of fiction, which this book is, at the end. If we were to talk about non-fiction, then we would have a problem. Hence the 4 star rating.

What I also noticed is that the author is bold in using direct names of certain existant persons (*cough cough* the current head of state of the largest country in the world by area *cough cough*). Good luck with that mate, you're gonna need it.

All in all, if geopolitical fictional abrupt chaos (in plot at least) is your thing, dig in. Despite everything, time flies while reading this book.

When I first opened this book, I was filled with anticipation, but while progressing through the chapters, I soon became swathed by total frustration. The plot certainly holds some promise, but is written through a shallow lens with many characteristics not quite adding up. Without including deliberate spoilers, I repeatedly found myself asking why? Why were the hero’s actions often rather bizarre? Why was the scale of imminent terror so superficial? And where were the UK’s military forces? Forces being a major strength in NATO, so it goes without saying they would have been significantly involved. The pace of the book added further annoyance, with action filled scenes drawing the reader into the mêlée extremely well, but then followed by pages of nothing save for lengthy detail and over-description. I began to wonder if I was going to stumble upon ten pages describing a golf ball. Of course, I am sure there are many who would disagree, proclaiming their utter enjoyment of this book, but for me I am sorry to say it fell short of hitting the mark.

Personally I'm not a fan of political thriller with war thematics, but a friend recommended this book and I must say that I'm positively surprised. The author is not well known and I think he's just at his beginning but oh what a beginning that is!

Robert Hrzic started his journey as an author with a bang, really making the novel interesting given the fact that I'm not drawn to the war genre. There is indeed something positive to say about an author who can make a genre interesting. Not only that, but the reader is truly drawn into the plot of schemes and Machiavellian ways the hero of the novel, Connor O'Hara, deals with troublesome circumstances. The novel is also fast paced; there is no fear that the reader will be bored with unnecessary purple prose and pointless dialogues, ending each and every chapter with substantial cliffhangers.

I hope to read more from the author and I look forward to his new work!

A Preview of the Future?

Hrzic gives a smart preview of his unusual version of a False Flag event in Rogue Flag. Intelligence agencies among several western & eastern countries misread the planning that precedes a rogue Irishman who establishes a ‘new’ nation of peace away from others that seem to fight over money & territory regularly. The surprise from Nostonia, the new nation, is that it settles on a small island in the North Atlantic and steals several nuclear war heads from some big nations to bluff the ‘big boys’ into keeping their distance. All is well until the Nostonia ‘self appointed’ President clandestinely orders his new military to attack a couple of ships belonging to the large eastern nations who are tricked into believing the west attacked them. A war breaks out between the east and west. You will be surprised how closely the end of this story could happen today.

The book "Rogue Flag" by Robert Hrzic and Sara Kern Gaseca is a book of Political thriller with War thermatics and a really amazing book with lot of war thrill's. The writer of this book appear with it's a beginning book but I must say this is a great beginning.
The writer gave a bang with this book as a start-up story of his life by giving everyone that he is not drawn in the war genre.
As me as a reader I must say that I am truly drawn to the war genre in this story as the leading character of this book Machiavellian was the hero of this book, Connor O'Hara deals with troublesome circumstances. As the reader this story is not getting bored at any point because this story is a fast paced story so there is no fear that anyone can get bored by this story. Highly recommend for the Warcraft readers.

Forming a nation is not fiction it is reality!

Initially, it sounds like fiction, forming your own nation. There seem to be many small unclaimed islands across the ocean and people can form a micro sovereign nation. Well, that is how the book opens and instantly a reader compels to move on with the page-turner Rouge Flag.

Robert Hrtzic entices readers about what kind of govt they wan to form and how to build diplomatic relationships with other world leaders. The author provides support to his analogy by giving examples of such nations have risen through  the ranks of politics at the world level.

This book will not only attract regular readers but those who have an interest in political science and politics find it a compelling read.

This book was a lot heavier than my normal reads, but boy I just couldn’t put it down. Tense and gripping you are pulled into an action packed adventure that will leave you on the edge of your seat. I loved the realistic nature of the protagonist Conner, he is flawed and so very human. It’s impossible not to be drawn in. With realistic dialogue, terrifying consequences, and scenarios that could very unfold before our eyes Robert Hrzic dares his readers to imagine, what if. Filled with action, treachery, twists, betrayal and danger, what more could you ask for from a military thriller, except for the strong cast of characters provided and a writing style that grabs your attention from the start and crafts descriptive scenes you won’t soon forget.

A perfect delight for those who enjoy thrillers and politics. 'Rogue Flag' by Robert Hrzic brings forward his debut novel which definitely will raise your standard of expectations.
This book, to simply put it, talks about the possibility of the Second Cold War. With politics playing a major role, you'll also find other aspects like betrayal, revenge and the suspense which will catch you off guard. An action-packed, it'll completely change your perspective of thriller novels.
As he made his debut, the author has indeed propagated some strong political views which the others rarely do. However, being a work of fiction, it leaves you breathless, wanting for more.

A thriller war fiction? Give me it! The book is one of the best books I've read so far, this newcomer author blew me away with his writing style and the plot. This story is an amazing modern take on Cold War if it were to happen again, and the hero of the book, Connor O'Hara who has to come of it victorious. It's amazing how lucid and fast paced this story is, I doesn't give you the option to out it down until you reach the end. Anyone who's interested in geopolitical, war thrillers I would highly recommend this!

Relative, realistic and thus thrilling !

The events in this book could really happen! Another Cold War!? It's frightening to think about but we are so polarized and suspicious and deceptive that it's possible. I got pulled into the mystery throughout the chapters that author did a great job with storyline and characters. It was a bit long but if fully entranced by the genre and suspense then the time will fly by. I broke up it and read this over a few weeks. I can tell the author is passionate about this theme/genre

What an entertaining book to read! This genre is pretty far away from what I prefer to read usually, but the plot, characters, and descriptions of historical warfare kept me engaged throughout. This day in age, you can see the parallels in what is going on in our society, which makes the plot even more relevant. The writing style was descriptive enough to make sense to someone like me that knows nothing about historical warfare, but not overly done so that it loses any interest. Well done! I recommend.

Unlike any other book I've read. Very exciting and very topical. I would not be surprised if the events in this book happen this week or next. A rouge group of people set up a new country on an island. To gain recognition they also steal nuclear weapons from the U.S., China and Russia. Of course, each of those countries accuse the others of stealing the weapons. The hunt is on to find out who is guilty of the steal and to get them back to the rightful owners. Tempers flare and weapons are sharpened. Look out for the climax!

This book, the Rogue Flag is a book about the possession of nuclear weapons and other warheads in wrong hands. UN security council members are remained shocked when they lear that their highly confidential and most dangerous warheads have been stolen by a deranged populist , which leads to inaccuracies. The chief had to deploy a team to find those nuclear warheads before something wrong happens.
A must read to enter a world of thrill to see what really happens next !

Just oh my god! This book took me a few days to read. BUT...I was afraid to turn the next page. Wondering about what was going to happen next. The book was long but understandable why it was. Worth the read. Very intense, and that is what I like about a book. The cover caught my attention, and the title made total sense for sure. If you love historical war novels...this is the one to read. The format was well done and easy to follow. Bravo, and I cannot wait for more from this author.
