The McCormacks have their floating city growing in the South Pacific, and their space station well underway. As they continue their quest to unite Earth and bring her into the modern age of space travel and repair her environment before it’s too late, they have to fight with the major powers that aren’t too sure they want to change the status quo. Now they have discovered an incoming asteroid the size of Ceres. What will it take to unite Earth to deal with this threat to its very existence? And what other threats may be lurking there? Now it’s time to step up, for Delphi and all the nations of Earth.
Bob Blanton has been an avid reader ever since his mother first took him to a library at age five. He has toyed with writing for years since college but was always too busy to start a novel. The "stone series" developed almost by itself as he was trying to sleep on long flights to Asia and Europe. He managed to write it and two follow-on novels while he was working, but never had the time to polish them. After he retired to the beach in Mexico, the only thing that competes with writing is the sound of the ocean and sunsets over the water. Now that he has published his series, he hopes you enjoy reading them as much as he has had writing them. Check back for other books as he continues to ply his new trade.
Now that he has published his series, he hopes you enjoy reading about Matthew and his developing powers as much as he has enjoyed writing about them.
I just blew through all the books in this series (1-9 as I’m certain more are coming). As a result I am doing one review for all the books. The top item is: these books are significantly better than 95% of self-published books. Book one is by far the worst of the series and it is still okay. Book one’s main problem is that it lacks story resolution, something I hate and generally do not forgive. Here, however, the author tells a more character driven story which reduces the need for a firm resolution. In fact another review for book 9 caught my eye and it was complaining about a lack action, something I would typically complain about as well but did not even consider as the development of the characters was fascinating.
After book one the author uses a recipe: resolve main story but end on a teaser for the next book. Personally I find using teasers a bad idea as it distracts from the story just told. It also seems to me that a truly competent author would not require teasers as readers would come back for more without them. Oddly enough I am reminded of Lilian Jackson Braun’s “Cat Who” series. It was also character driven and yet she never felt the need to end one of her books with a teaser for the next book (and I read this entire series even though I am not a mystery reader).
Although I enjoy reading these books I often find myself with lots of questions that aren't answered, but I have learned to just go with the flow and not worry about anything that doesn't make sense. This was an enjoyable book even though there were a couple of things that annoyed me a little e.g.
Definitely 5 stars. For all of the books. Over the course of the series I have thoroughly enjoyed how the characters "tweek" the heads of the established world order. Having chanced upon a dormant alien spacecraft the steps the characters take are believable and heartening to see. While pursuing some very noble altruistic goals, the main characters don't loose sight of how the rest of the world thinks or acts. There are some cliff hangers at the end of the books, but not too bad. I d definitely want to read #6. Great work. Bill Hodges
Well crap!!! I love this series and purchased the Audible version of Alliance this morning only to discover this is another book that doesn't have all its editions in the GoodReads database. :( Somebody set up one of the online funding things to see if we can get FictFact back and I'll gladly contribute!
Great sci fi. Unbelievable if you apply today. Having read stories 60 years ago about fighting liens, going to the moon, submarine getting it’s power from the sea, this becomes less “sci-fi junk” ad possibly more prophetic. Enjoyable to the point that I am reading just over a book a day. One of the benefits of being retired and being a fast reader,
This series started out pretty good. But the more and more I read the more and more I realize that the father or this Marc individual is manipulating his daughter. Using hormone therapy on her without her knowledge to keep her in a sexually underdeveloped state. Going so far as to say that he and the AI computer are going to regulate her hormones till she is 25. Basically he is making his daughter asexual until she's 25 and quote can handle the experience better. By this same vehicle he can also control who she is attracted to. "But he would never" you say, "he already is" I say. He is keeping her "daddy's" little girl. Sicko.
I couldn't understand why any girl / young lady continues to call her mother "Mommy" and her father "Daddy." She hasn't developed normally because her hormones are turned off I assume. I don't know if the author intended this intentionally but that is the way it's coming through. It's a little disturbing and I'm actually considering quit reading this book or this series because of the manipulation of the father. In reality when this daughter finds out how manipulative her father is she should separate herself from him. The problem is that would be very hard to do because he can manipulate her so easily through her nanites, in her best interest of course. She really has enough intelligence to go into business for herself. She knows all that he knows and is far more innovative.
I also actually feel that it's kind of ironic because the way the author preaches about population control, birth control, etc. but on the other hand finds it completely acceptable to give the 13-year-old daughter alcohol. Alcohol it is featured quite predominantly throughout this book series. It seems the aliens have got a cure for everything but alcoholism. That's all we need, drunk drivers in space. I guess it worked for "Space Balls".
Good start to finish. The characters and predicaments kept me reading. The situations and possibilities are evolving to what all could hope for in a utopian society. Lots of good ideas. There super smart young people and capable adult folk who are truly benign to keep the design together. Hope this group runs for office. Look forward to more by this author.
Read 135 of Edgar Rice Burroughs books in my 20s. His 25 books of Tarzan took a theme and ran with it. In stories of John Carter of Mars, Moon series etc. all had heroines in action sequences. But most often the female failed at critical moments, reflecting a style. In his day women wore corsets. When things became highly physical or exciting they ran out of air and would often faint. Ladies today go into action wearing stretch sports wear that moves well. Strong smart youth, women and men were reflected through the book. Good to read.
Like to see how the new boy/possible boyfriend adds to the series.
Re book 10. In your utopia you forgot to take out abuse of women. If you are going to have prostitution it's only fair that it be a choice. And if it's a choice then where is the 401 k vacation safety respect sick leave. If it's a choice, a job then they have rights just like anyone else. The right not to be beaten, the right to keep the money, not have some John use you, your body, not his, so he can make money. That's abuse. So in your utopia if you think any woman would choose to be a prostitute, then it should be a job with rights like any other job. In your book you protect everyone's rights except the prostitutes. They just happen it's life. It is because they are not protected. It's allowed because it serves a fiction men want even if it means we allow our women to be abused to provide it. You can in your book make it a job not abuse. A necessary evil that you do t want fixed
I became engrossed in the series. This starts as an engineer discovers a spacecraft. He develops an navel imaging device that the government has to have. His daughter is a young imaginative genius becomes interwoven into the plot. They want to help earth and poor countries by modifying current technologies and introduce new technologies. I think there is enough hard science that I was sucked in. The series progresses from constructing an independent city, to a habitable space station and eventually unifying earth and defending it from the same type of aliens that the original space ship came from. The series integrates well, but it should be read from start to finish. Books in between rely on the previous novel for continuity.
This was another great episode like the previous ones, but this one has more action. The McCormack's prepare for a space battle and then carry out the brief war. Once again the American President tries to take over by launching surprise commando raids on the space station, the space ships, and the Delphi city. And once again the McCormack's smack him down. This book has a bit more action than the previous ones since it describes the space battle. However, I did not find it interesting to read in each skirmish how many torpedoes, rockets, and rail gun slugs were fires by each side. Once again the 14 year old Cathie comes up with the winning solution. Again I do not fine her character really having the knowledge and experience to do what she always does. So this for me is the unbelievable part of the book.
Love the characters in this series. Bob does a good job of really getting you invested in their struggles. Would have been 5 stars but there were some issues with editing. At one point the AI "Adi" states that she is 500 years old, the person she is talking with exclaims "you're 300 years old" then the ai goes on to explain that most of that time was spent on this mission. Which has lasted 170 years. There were a few other instances where characters stated that certain parts/ships were ready to build, then a few pages later they would state they were ready to start in a few weeks. Other that those few instances which broke the immersion somewhat it was a great story!
Finally the p.c. global warming hoax drops out of narrative. And an epic battle for survival takes place, in deep space, with intriguing threads of Intel, strategy, tactics, politics, intrigue, and innovation, all intermingled. Best of all, it is seen from only one perspective, so there are no narrative cheats to the reader about whether the analyses are right, partly right, or wrong, at any step of the way. Oh, and a good book for both young teen boys and girls to find a hero to emulate. Best of all, it is a legitimate vision of humanity reaching for the stars. Perhaps not as classic an epic as Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" but it seems there can be only one Clancy or Asimov or Dickens per generation, and this epic is pretty close.
The concept that with the endless ingenuity of the world's shadow ops would have a coup attempt on a space station unarmed.... There are thousands of chemical reactions not to mention just compressed air to create projectile weapons not to mention spring, Poison darts, Poison and chemical weapons, Chemical Catalysts that steal O2 out of atmo.... Story isn't fun if the antagonist is a continuous string of Idiots. So waited for Battleship to fire its Super railgun in at Earth and the fleet having to scramble to stop the bombardment... Tension pretty much zero when you reduce a battle to missile %....
Blanton, Bob. Delphi Alliance. Delphi in Space No. 5. Kindle, 2019. The fledgling South Pacific nation of Delphi is working hard to clean up the world environment and make humanity a true space-faring species when it is alerted to a Ceres-sized asteroid just about to enter the solar system. It could collide with the Earth or it could be hiding an alien invasion fleet. So the Delphi folks have to organize and international effort to ramp up their space-born resources to meet the threat. Catie, now almost 15, has some ideas. Of course she does. The strengths and weaknesses of this series have been very consistent from novel to novel. Three and a half stars.
Marc and crew fight attempts to seize their city and space station. After discovering a Paraxian fleet hiding behind a huge asteroid that is approaching the solar system, Marc comes clean about the space ship they discovered along with the aliens. Even as most of the world rallies to their proposed world defence alliance, some heads of state try to take advantage of the situation to gain control of Delphi. I like the action, humor, strategy, and bit of romance. This is a great series and I look forward to the next book.
Great story, the piece is pretty good. Now that the team has defeated an invasion force they will have to unite planet. The lives of the people should get better as energy demand has decreased from fossil fuels. The space station has crawled pretty good and now we need to sit out and find other worlds. How the team deals with these challenges is going to be exciting to see. Will Marc step down, Catie and Jason get together, how will the twin help? I can’t wait to see.
I have read SciFi novels for almost 6 decades and this series is as good as it gets. What attracted me to the genre as a youngster was the vision of the future. What impressed me more as an adult was how accurate some of those visions turned out to be. When I retired I challenged myself to read more and I have crossed the 100 book plateau the past few years. I read this series over the past couple weeks and just couldn't put it down. It doesn't get better than this.
Finally the aliens whose technology has featured from the series start now finally appear, and for once they are not some totally evil group, more miss led by leaders with their own agenda. Actually their just decent folk looking for a new home who have been told us human are the evil ones. Really enjoyed the space battle stage as it was considerably lower tech than what you get and more realistic as a result. This one I couldn't put down.
Like the story line, hate the PC propaganda and what’s this continued obsession with Global warming
I ran all of the series so far I love the first two books I like the other books however the author tends to go off track and really wants to push the PC claimant has been affecting this country as well as the obsession with global warming.
And also was obsessions that the USA and is some evil force that need to be dealt with.
Again great storyline good story It’s just that the propaganda that she would be being pushed and everything today we just can’t leave politics out.
To be blunt book 3 with an “all girl team plus two kids” being focused on was a total “cooling off” of my joy of reading a new series. I was thinking of moving on! Book 4 salvaged my respect for the series. Book 5 has my fervor for this series’, with it’s innovative handling of “Alien invasion of Earth”, restored and anxious for the next sequel. I’m glad I persevered in my reluctance to quit an interesting new series. Kudos to the Authors.
Wow, political intrigue followed by a big space battle
The MC and his cohorts continue to build the space station while governments try to steal their tech. Unsuccesfully. Then they realize that they've got bigger problems.
I do have to say that the characterization of the American president sure does sound like a narcissistic wanker very similar to a former actual president who hijacked his political party and is currently running for reelection in 2024. Just saying!
Well tome it was short and sweet. Took me a few hours to get through once I started, and could not put down. Would loved to have had some more grit and detail, but I guess it is the style of writing so I will take what I get. Now I have to waaaaiiit for a few more months for the next installment. Thank you for your writing it is really appreciated!!
I thought the author did a good job addressing the challenges and strategies in the space combat. This series is set in current time and I thought the author did a good job describing the political situation in the U.S.. I hope the author continues to write more books the world that he has created here.
I'm sorry I waited so long to review . I thought the first book started a bit slow but once I got into the series I couldn't stop. I stayed up to midnight one night just to finish book 3. It has been a long time since that has happened. Leaving me the reader with the awesome tease in the last book leaves me desperate for your next book.
A really great and amazing series with lots of unexpected twists and turns and I really well-rounded plot that could basically be considered for all ages with a little bit of violence a lot of intellectual Pursuits that definitely formed an amazing series and I look forward to many more books in the series
What a great series this has been and I do wish it were a little more believable. But even a mature 14yr old usually has a few more fears than our heroine Catie. Plus who in their right mind gives hard liquor to a teenager? I enjoyed the ending and am excited that there is a 5 th book. I'm off to read it now!
No child, regardless of intelligence, can make appropriate decisions regarding complex interactions. I tried reading this series twice, but a pubescent child directing the plot is a big NO for me. No consequences for bad choices, no consequences for lies/deception, no ability to comprehend who and how they hurt others. Ugh.
As the empire grows…something scary this way comes….
Fun books that, although they drag from time to time due to the long wordy explanations of building the space station, or the fighters or the crazy weapons, continue to make you wish this could be a reality. I love eco friendly elements as well as the gender equality among all the actors. Keep them coming.
I just finished Book 5, and I’m very impressed with the author’s ability to maintain the pace of the story while creating such unique technologies and innovative solutions! Tight, well written with very engaging and relatable characters, it’s an easy read, entertaining and thought provoking. Well done, sir!
