I never planned on being 39 and still a virgin. Life got in the way and before I knew it I was almost 40 with a cherry that had yet to be popped. So, I pulled up my big girl panties and made a bucket list to accomplish before the big 4-0. Easy peasy, right?
It only took three bottles of wine, the internet, and a dating site to flip my world on its side. What came next would consist of part disaster and part greatest thing to ever happen to me.
My new life consisted of plenty of men and plenty of dates. None of those were with the one man I wanted more than anything. He was untouchable. With his heated looks and seductive voice, I was in trouble. My restraint, willpower, and a non-fraternization policy were the only things keeping us apart. None of it mattered to him. He was determined to have me and damn the consequences.
With men, awkward dates, a geriatric wedding, naughty needle-pointing, and a sexy as sin boss the last year of my thirties had the potential to be one I would never forget.

I was totally sold by the blurb and I couldn’t wait to read the story of Teagan and how she ended living awkward and weird dates, after a wild evening with her crazy besties turning I’m her life into almost a reality show.
I was intrigued by that woman who was still a virgin at almost forty, a badass at work but having bad luck in love.
I guess I would have crawled under my bed and never left it if I was in her situation. But still she took it like a champ’ and tried to face the music. Not only she had to deal with it but falling for her sexy boss was definitely not expected.I appreciated the witty banter and colorful supportive characters and a special mention to her grams and her crew, who added such hilarious moments into her journey.
Things first, making her bucket list come true and you might guess a real disaster in the making.Be prepared for laugh out loud moments and also scary ones, adding in the mix that swoony hero, Grayson, she tried so hard to push away.
Grayson was determined and went for what he wanted, putting her needs first but being too easily conciliatory to me.I didn’t feel the connection immediately and as the title said, it was a constant work in progress on so many levels.I admired her tenacity of staying professional and not mixing business with pleasure, she was independent and at ease with her body. Her no filter was funny, saying sometimes her thoughts out loud leaving people speechless. She was endearing and enthusiastic, but couldn’t see the real thing.
It just took time to appreciate the main characters. Their chemistry took awhile to really bloom, as she navigated through this experience. However I felt like it lacked transitions and dragged out at times. Some parts were more outweighed by other characters who had stolen the show, and definitely had more action than Teagan and Grayson.I wanted see more dialogue between Teagan and Grayson.
Their interactions were amazing and I wished for more development, more of them, smoking hot and tender at once.
Don’t forget the swoony parts… I loved it.
It was a work in progress and I liked it a lot but it felt unfinished to me in the end. Otherwise the concept was pretty original and fun.
An almost 40 year old virgin, okay this is possible but it sounds a bit strange when you read a romance book. And that is exactly what caught my attention when reading the synopsis of this book. It sounds so strange that it must be a good book right?
I laughed so much while reading this book! It is really funny and well written. All the dates Teagan has are really hilarious and at the same time painful. I didn't know there were so many weird men in the world. And maybe I found that a bit annoying sometimes, she goes on quite a few dates and none of them are normal. But of course she needed that to get to the person she would end up with.
The dynamics between Teagan and her boss are really nice, he immediately explains how he feels. But I also find it very good that she explains very clearly why it cannot work. Her reasons behind that make sense and I think my response would be the same.
I really loved the grandmother and her friends! The group of women really added a lot of humor to this book in a good way. It didn't feel weird how they acted because they were older, it really suited the characters.
I often found Teagan a bit naive for someone of that age, but maybe that is also her charm? But I did notice that I was a bit annoyed at times.
Of course I'm not going to tell how it will end, whether she will be deflowered, who would do it. You should read that yourself. But trust me this book is so funny and certainly we can use some humor in this day and age.
I really liked it and I haven't laughed so much in a long time. So go read this book!
I really truly enjoyed this book. Definitely humorous and although you think instantly you know the synopsis when you start to read. You get to question and go oh wait wow that isn't gonna happen. Definitely reccomend.
This was my first book by this author, and I have to say I very much enjoyed it. It was funny and just a good happy care free read. Teagan is a 39year old virgin and has made a promise to herself that by her next birthday she will do something totally adventurous. However when her birthday has come and gone, her best friends open up a dating profile for her. But that doesn't go according to plan and she can't help but wonder what is wrong her. On the other side she is busy with a work project and the man she is working closely with, there might be a little bit of a spark. But with a job promotion on the line she cannot go there. But maybe Teagan is standing in the way of her own happiness, or is it just too much of a risk to take with a promotion on the line.
Like I said, it was a fun, happy emotional read, and it was just what I needed after the heavy read I had before this. Definitely looking out for more on this author.
Not having read any other books by the author before, I didn’t know what to expect before reading A Work in Progress. Needless to say, this office romance was filled with quirky scenes, lots of entertaining moments and a romance to leave wanting for more.
Teagen Brown is a thirty-nine year old junior marketing associate working for Price & Cook Advertising. While her career has been promising, her love life hasn’t. She has had a lot of dates, yet she has never met anyone special enough to lose her virginity to. But this year is going to be different, Teagen has created a bucket list and losing her virginity is her number one priority. But after a few bottles of wine and the internet, she ends up becoming famous on a dating site. Now she has an overwhelming amount of men following her after she puts in her profile that she wants to lose her virginity. That will soon follow a series of events that will change her life forever. To make things worse she has to work her attractive boss who has a plan of his own. It’s the last year before she turns forty and Teagan wants to make the most it even if it means letting go of the man that she truly wants.
I had fun reading A Work In Progress, not only was Teagan relatable but the rest of the characters as well. I loved her grandmother, she was funny and blunt. It was a nice touch in the story and made it that much more interesting to read. Grayson was completely lovable, he is protective towards Teagan and they work together really well. The dates she goes on were entertaining and a mess. But that’s what it ultimately takes for her to see what she truly wants. All in all, if you’re looking for a quirky office romance than I would highly recommend checking out this book. I’m looking forward to reading more from the author in the future. :)
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
When you have gone your entire life and never meet that one special guy you want to give your virginity too. Do you just throw caution to the wind and just give in to day you have done it?
When Teagan finds herself in that position, she relies on her friends to help her find the right one. When her first friend's attempt goes totally wrong, the others have to come in for damage control.
Teagan allows her friends to set up dates for her, but when ever date is a disaster, one has to wonder, is there something wrong with her.
Meanwhile Teagan is working on a project for her job and the man she working closely with shows there is an electric spark between these two. With that being said, she is all about her job an a promotion and he is off limits.
When another event outside of work forces these two to have to be in close quarters, there is no stopping them from moving forward. Will this cause problems for her promotion and can they get pass the hurt that follows?
Want to go on an adventure with a vigil in her quest to find the man to "pop her cherry", then be sure to put this at the top of your list of books to read.
Jackie Paxson great job, each date was something to look forward to. I would love to see a follow up to this story.
I love a great rom-com and I've been fortunate lately to find some really great stories that have been so entertaining. It's pretty far-fetched that someone 39 years old is still a virgin but this sure made for an entertaining read. A Work In Progress was the perfect office romance with a great group of best friends that any girl would love to have. Teagan is a delightful character, one that will have you laughing and giggling and she totally made this story while her friends struggled to find the perfect guy for her. The disastrous dates were hilarious and I thoroughly enjoyed them all.
Jackie Paxson will certainly take your mind away from any troubles you might have with this light-hearted read. I can't say enough how much I enjoyed it and I hope that Jackie does more stories similar to this one. I feel she's a natural at these and her characters and witty story lines will keep you entertained for hours on end.
Teagan's life is a giant calamity after a wine fueled evening with one of her besties and the internet. The days that follow are hilarious, disgusting, and undoubtedly challenging. Her myriad of disastrous dates are nearly painful but are most definitely entertaining. The NNGs and Teagan's small band of besties add so much color. Add in her chemistry with the off-limits Grayson and you have one heck of a party! The ending wasn't quite what I was expecting or hoping for but the laughs are plentiful, shenanigans are crazy, and the ending is still sweet. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
UPDATED: Such a fun book to read or listen to. I've done both. In multiple places I found myself busting up with laughter. This is a great rom-com! I really like the narrator. I love the characters - main and supporting - and all of the crazy antics!
OH. MY. GOODNESS. This book had me cracking up from the very beginning. Teagan never found someone to give her V card too...so as she approaches her 40th birthday she wants that to change...and she lets her friends pick her dates. And oh man, hilarity from the beginning, this poor girl. You will have to read it to believe it all.
Then we throw in a hot boss, a sex toy marketing project and you get even more greatness. Weariness on Teagan's part is understandable honestly, she works hard to move up and be someone in her industry. But sometimes the heart wins out and you realize what is most important in life. I love her friends and Grayson as they all add something great to this story.
This is a new to me author but I will definitely be checking out her other work if it is as fantastically funny as this one.
I'll start this review by saying the concept of the story was funny as hell. We have BFF's who are trying to do just about everything humanly possible for Teagan to find someone to pop her cherry and if love comes from it so much better. But as you can imagine she needs to go and "kiss" a few frogs before she saw what was right in front of her.
Now I have to say that I did have a few eye-rolls. But I think those were more it's me not you kinda problem. I'm hoping this continues because I want to see Teagan put her friends through some of the things she went through.
All in all it was a good read and for my first book by this author I'm giving it a light 4* rating.

A Work In Progress is such a fabulous laugh out loud read. You can't help but smile through all of Teagan's mishaps in the dating world. Don't get me started on the Naughty Knitting Grandma's they will not only put a huge smile on your face but will make you laugh out loud so much. I seriously couldn't put this one down. I love the chemistry between Grayson and Teagan. They are so cute together and he is so patient with her. There is so much I want to say about this one but I don't want to give all those loveable moments away before you discover them yourself. You will love every moment of this book just like I do. Go One Click Now.
This started out really hilarious! I was intrigued on how the story's going to progress. One, her friends are a bunch of crazies, they're so funny yet each one of them has different personalities. It's always so fun reading their interactions. Two, the ladies in the retirement home. They're a real hoot! Teagan's friends and a bunch of horny grannies, they're explosive! They're a real scene stealer!
Then, there's Teagan's new hot and sexy boss. I loved him. I loved their chemistry! And the fact that he wanted her and was willing to break the rules to be with her, had me swooning!
Totally recommended if you want a funny, sweet rom-com that will have you laughing out loud!
WOW! This book was very different from this authors other books but it was still just as amazing! A Work In Progress had me laughing so hard that more than once I had tears streaming down my face. It is a great love story but not only are the pages filled with romance they are filled with a woman's bucket list adventures surrounded by friends. I felt this books showed the true strength of a woman and the importance of friendship. Pick up this book and be prepared to laugh and smile the entire way through - oh and don't forget to watch out for the grannies!
On her 39th birthday, Teagan vows by her 40th birthday she will be adventurous, take risks in life and finally lose her virginity. Her three best friends are game to help her putting herself out there in the dating scene and picking her dates for her. Grayson, the new VP of Teagan’s marketing firm, is everything she wants and dreams about. Unfortunately, the agency has a strict no fraternization policy. What’s a girl to do?
The blurb for this novel grabbed and kept my interest. However, the novel overall did not. Based on the book blurb, I expected dating and everyday hijinks and hysterics. I was ready for it. This novel started off really slow in my opinion and the dating hijinks missed the mark with me. The first blind date fiasco came close to what I was wanting, but the rest of the blind dates were blah. For me the chemistry between Teagan and Grayson was not there. There seemed to be no flirting or steamy hot connection between them. It was vanilla. This is one of the few books that I have read where the main female character has more than two best friends. It got confusing for me because they all four were always together and they all seemed to be different versions of the same person. Like a Barbie for different professions. At about halfway through the novel I was done wit them giving each other the middle finger and calling each other “bitch.” I was constantly reminding myself these were professional women in their late thirties. I guess there are some women and their close friends that act in a similar manner, but those friends are not for me. The best parts of the novel were any scenes that featured the feisty retirement home characters. They were a hoot and naughty, especially Edna. I can see myself like Edna at her age. I wanted to hear more about them versus Grayson and Teagan. I think there was a few lines in the novel about the senior citizens getting more action than Teagan.
I love the novel's concept—an almost 40-year-old virgin trying to lose her virginity and find love at the same time. I am a big book dialogue person, because I think conversations can turn a bland moment into something special. I wish this author had used the dialogue to spice up the tender moments between Grayson and Teagan. Overall, the storyline was okay, but it is not a novel I would re-read.
My first book from the author and it didn’t disappoint! After reading the blurb I decided that it was the kind of book I wanted and needed to read, a fun and emotional story. How I laugh reading this book, with every situation Teagan got in I loved her more!
Teagan turned 39 years old and with her 3 best friends Nomi, Ember and Olivia, she decided to change her life and did a bucket list to fulfill before turning 40! For topic on the list? Lost her virginity. With the help of her friends Teagan start going to blind dates to achieve her goals. Only problem is: the one who she really likes is her boss and the company has a no fraternization police.
Grayson is Teagan’s boss at a marketing company, and after meeting her, he decided to work with her in a project. It was hot and cute and I swoon like hell with how he started to fall in love with her. Everything he did to help, protect and support her only made me fall for him too. And he did all of that knowing that she was scared and wanted to succeed at her job before get together with him.
Her blind dates were horrible! Seriously, I never read so many bad ones, but I could stop laughing with the magician, the doctor or the teacher! The situations were so out of the blue that I couldn’t believe how she was still there at the date!
The best part of the book are with Grams and her friend in retirement home. I could only imagine that they are the mirror of the 4 best friends in the future. I laugh a lot with Teagan calling them as retired gangsters! Grams was so cute and I loved how she raised Teagan, and her wedding with Grayson’s grandfather? Amazing!
I loved their shenanigans and it made me do my own bucket list to fulfill before turning 40 (I still have some years ahead - not a lot!)! I wish I could have read more about their future, the ending was nice but as an epilogue crazy I wanted more to truly believe in their HEA.
I absolutely adored this book! I thought it was absolutely laught out loud funny. Teagan has just turned 39, and is determined to lose her V card before her 40th birthday, and Reagan's friends are determined to help. When Teagan's friend Ember realizes after Teagan's birthday that she has done absolutely nothing to accomplish the task she posts Teagan's profile on a dating app, while she and Teagan are polishing off a bottle of wine. Though Teagan deleted the post, the dating app company singles her post out and uses it for advertising. Due to the wording in the post, and the play her add got through company advertising, to save face, Teagan is forced to go through with all of her dates, and publish those dates in the paper of another of her friends, a journalist. Olivia, the Journalist proposed that Teagan make a bucket list, including her losing her virginity, and that she select one item from her bucket list to complete with each date, in working to have a relationship since Teagan is obviously not a one night stand kind of girl. Olivia would create an article for each date, as well as interview Teagan on how the date went. Then there would be a final article indicating who Teagan had chosen to have a relationship with. Teagan hasn't lost her virginity before her 39th birthday because she has always buried herself in her job, but she definitely has the worst luck in dating! It was these dates that made me laugh so hard, my husband asked what I was reading. Jackie Paxon has created another enjoyable and funny read, with great character development that will carry you from beginning to end! I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my honest review.
This was such a great book! It was a feel good office romance that had me laughing out loud the entire time. Jackie Jaxson is a new author for me, but I'm so glad I found her. I'm looking forward to seeing what else she'll be coming out with.
On her 39th birthday, Teagan and her friends made a bucket list to finish before she turned 40. One of the items on the list is to finally loose her virginity. Between bad dates, a new project at work, and her grandmas new friends it becomes a wild year for Teagan. Will she be able to finish her bucket list and loose her virginity before the big 4-0?
Teagan is such a well written character. She was extremely easy to connect with too. She ignores drama, has a quirky personality, and she won't apologize for who she is. She does find her self in many unique situations, but she rolls with the punches. I love that her and her friends don’t sugar coat anything either. Teagan seems like a real person that I could totally be bffs with.
Gray is a wonderful book boyfriend. He waited for Teagan, put her first, and was willing to loose his job over her. It's been a while since I've read a book from just one persons perspective. So, there were a few times were I wish I could see from Gray's POV. I would have loved to see what he was thinking in all those crazy situations he found himself in with Teagan.
I would recommend this to anyone who needs a good laugh. There really was not a dull moment in the book. I'm hoping the rest of Teagan's friends get a book. I wouldn't even mind a book for Grams or her crazy gang. I definitely look be looking out for this author.
We’ve all probably read a few ‘I want to lose my V-card’ stories with girls aged mid to late twenties, and occasionally older, but this is the first one that I’ve read with a woman approaching 40. Teagan is that woman and decided on the day she turned thirty-nine that enough was enough and the V-card had to go! Her three friends agreed and a cataclysmic series of dates followed. Each of her friends got to set up a date for her, and each one was worse than the last. Meanwhile, Teagan’s new, super sexy boss has set his eyes on her. She’s reticent as there is a no-fraternization policy in place. So, what can they do? Be friends? Hah!! Teagan is so set on pushing Grayson away, while he’s doing his best to help her get a promotion and also get in her panties. He’s determined and knows what he wants. So is Teagan. This was pretty much the premise of the story, a lot of back and forth but not really a ton of sassy banter or real chemistry. I really wanted to like this book, the blurb certainly set it up as being a fun, laugh out loud story, but for me, it kind of fell flat. It dragged in places, the funniest parts were supplied by Teagan’s elderly gramma and her fellow retirement home residents. They had a few hi-jinks. A Work In Progress is my first read by Jackie Paxson. It was good, but sadly, for me, not great.
Sigh! I am getting very frustrated by books that don't tell you that they contain things that might be offensive to some people. When I saw this book at one of my favorite book review sites, I liked the sweet cover, and the description itself sounded interesting. What I wasn't expecting was a book loaded with profanity and some bizarre, shall we say, sensual aspects. While I don't mind the $exy part in a romance, I just don't like profanity in any book at all. I really think the author should say something in the book's description so those who don't want books with that can bypass it. The book has a fun premise. The characters are quirky and quite humorous on occasion, even if somewhat crude. Our heroine has a great set of gal pals who encouraged her to live life more fully. Some of what went on with all the dates was fun; some had an “ick” factor for me, which combined with the profanity weakened what could have been a good book. All in all, this book did not work for me quite as I hoped.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
I stumbled upon this unexpected treasure of a read and am so glad I did. I thought that this book was a delightful blend of humor, sweetness, quirkiness, warmth, cuteness and heartfelt emotion that has been coated with a glaze of genuineness and relatability. Teagan is a character that you could fall in love with, cheer on and feel sympathy for. Even if you don't share her exact problem (her virginity), I felt that it was super easy to imagine whatever personal issue plagued you into that spot and that made here super easy to connect with. Gray was a totally swoon worthy book boyfriend. I loved his persistence and his ability to "roll with the punches" and bumps along the way in his relationship with Teagan. If you are looking for a book that is guaranteed to brighten your day and lighten your heart, you've found it. Grab a copy and your favorite beverage of choice and settle in for a fun, flirty and completely wonderful romance. This is my sincere, volitional review.
This story was definitely an original read in the grand scheme of things, and while it was simply hilarious, I couldn't get past the almost 40 year old virgin as heroine. It's not a bad thing really, just seems too out there, and Teagan was a bit too naive for me. She's trying to punch that v-card and the journey definitely kept me laughing a lot, but it was her grandmother & friends who stole the show completely in my opinion. Teagan has a boss who was great as well, and they have big chemistry, but she's not willing to go there with reasons which are solid in theory. It's hard to write this review without giving things away so forgive my cryptic details, it's just that I don't want to ruin the fun I had with it, nor do I want to name names or give away whether she checked off her bucket list before 40. So, hit those one click buttons to see how ti all played out, as I promise you'll laugh a ton! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
A well written, perfectly narrated rom com! Our main female character - Teagan is not where she planned to be in life at age 39 - but with determination, some clumsy stumbles and friends she continues to threaten to replace (but are completely irreplaceable) Teagan's year to 40 is full of horrible first dates, laughs, and finally love. I adore Teagan's group of friends and of course Gran and her geriatric group make this read / listen one I just couldn't stop listening to. What on earth could possibly happen next?!? Full of outrageous situations that will give you giggles and a man who will sweep you off your feet - this rom com has is all and I loved every minute of it!
I received this book for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Teagan has a group of friends very much like my own they are hilarious and certainly don’t sugar coat things but in comparison to her grams friends they are totally tame, old people have no filter 🤣 Approaching her 40th birthday Teagan has a bucket list to complete, the main task to cross off the list being losing her virginity. What ensues are some hilarious, disastrous dates. Grayson is working with Teagan on a campaign for of all things sex toys, what could possibly go wrong. A laugh out loud, funny romance. I was routing for Grayson to eventually persuade Teagan to give up on the disastrous, hilarious dates and give Grayson a chance regardless of how it could impact their jobs
I loved Grayson and Teagan. So much! Especially Grayson. Equally attractive in sweatpants or a suit (the descriptions were excellent IMO) he comes across as super swoony! I overall enjoyed the story. If there had been less back and forth changing of the mind and dragging of the feet by Teagan this would have been a five-star read for me. I enjoyed Grams and all her friends; they were a hoot!! Probably my favorite part was the humor they brought to the story. I definitely recommend giving this book a read if you’re in the mood for a laugh and slow burn romance that still leads to some steam (which is not out of place at all, especially considering the very premise of this story and what Teagan’s trying to accomplish ha!).
A Work In Progress is the first book by Jackie Paxson that I have read but I will be on the look out to see what she comes up with next.
The blurb definitely catches the attention of the reader with the promise of a daring, 'before 40' to do list, disastrous dates and a hot boss.
On the whole, that's exactly what we get. There are times however where the continuity of the story lacks a 'seamless' transition which impacts the fluidity of Teagan's journey.
There are laugh out loud moments, especially from the residents of the retirement home and Teagan's boss is definitely hot, so it will certainly brighten up a reader's dreary day.
All in all, not a bad introduction to a new author that I'll undoubtedly meet again.
A Work in Progress is a fun read that I could see as a rom com on the big screen. I liked that Teagan was older than your typical romance heroine. It made her more relatable now that I am not in my twenties anymore.
After she doesn't accomplish the goals she sets on her 39th birthday, her friends set out to help her. What follows is a series of dates, none of them with the guy she really wants. Grayson is a coworker who she really likes, but a no fraternization policy stands in their way.
This was my first read by this author, and I found it to be entertaining. I loved that she had a close group of girlfriends that were a big part of the story, too. I definitely want to check out more of her books!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
This is a feel-good office romance with a female lead that is older (almost 40) and still a virgin. The laughs are there, as is the heart.
Teagan's quest to lose her v-card before she turns 40 is full of twists and turns - like bad dates, a boss at work that has her fanning herself, and her grandma's friends. She's easy to relate to, quirky, and she is totally unapologetic and embraces her quirks! And she sure knows how to roll with the punches. Greyson is a great match for her, and a solid book boyfriend.
If you're looking for some fun laughs, scoop this up!
This book had so much going on with meddling from best friends, grandparents and an old lady gang. That retirement home is definitely one for the books with the shenanigans those geriatrics were involved in lol!! The things these people found themselves saying and doing were hilarious. Grayson and Teagan fought their feelings until they couldn’t and the connection was nuclear ☢️!! Wasn’t a fan of Ember and definitely wouldn’t have someone so pushy, nosey and loud in my circle. She and Edna both should have several seats. I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I read the blurb and I was very very intrigued..it's not every day that the main character is an almost 40 years old virgin! I liked the story..it was entertaining and very funny, especially the granny and her gang. Grayson is absolutely fabulous and fair play to him, he came right out and declared his feelings. Teagan is a bit of an odd duck..and at times I just couldn't understand her and her reasoning.. I think that ,while the story was funny and sweet, it went very very slow for me..it took me a while to get into it, but I was curious and determined and here we are..I am really glad I read it!
This was a fantastic laugh out loud romance! I loved it! Teagan was about to turn 40 and was still a virgin. She was determined to rid herself of her virginity before her birthday. Her journey through many disastrous dates to find her man was very entertaining, painful and hilarious! I loved the chemistry between Grayson and Teagan! They were so great together! Will they take a chance on each other? I loved the Naughty Knitting Grandma’s! They put such a smile on my face! If you love a hilarious romantic comedy then this books for you!
