Amazing. As an advanced beginner on her first machine I have been reading websites and project books and manuals and feeling frustrated when they make references to things I don't understand or haven't learned. This book is an amazing reference that lays it all out for you, giving you a solid base to grow from. I got this from the library but I hope no one else requests it... I might have to keep it awhile. Recommended for beginners and hobbyists.

compared to other beginner's books i have looked at, this was the least user friendly. it has good general starter information that covers all the basics, as well as an extensive home decor section that includes sheets, duvet covers, and curtains. mending, repair and basic tailoring of bought garments are also covered. however, the layout makes the book extremely difficult to use, and most pages only use about half the available space. the sideways layout with the blank spaces only makes information on the top page more difficult to see without moving the book around - not helpful for referencing while sewing, and annoying if reading up before sitting at the machine. the copy i read had a DVD, which was never referenced in the book - no idea what's on it.
