My father-in-law picked up this booklet from the post office (he works there, and his boss recommended it). He thought it would be a book about inflammation, and it is, but it's mainly an outline about gut bacteria and the microbiome, and how that influences our immunity and longevity. The essence: a poor gut environment causes everything from cancer to arthritis to heart disease, and a good gut environment can not only foster good weight, but can also improve hormone balance, reverse diabetes, build resistance to diseases, etc. Apparently, a faster metabolism is a bad thing, though, which I never knew. Gundry's reasoning is that the faster cells reproduce, the less time we have to live. I don't know about that, though, because smaller creatures sometimes have faster metabolisms, yet they live longer.
