Captain John Casinov has two loves in his life—his family and his work. When his son, Jonathan, and the man’s family visits from Santa Cruz—primarily to try to convince him to retire and move south—John takes advantage of one of his detective’s offer. He accepts a bunch of free passes to the marine park, World of Aquatica. While there, he finds his interest snagged by a big, friendly, black-haired man. The handsome man brazenly introduces himself as William Roush…then he asks John on a date. While he’s flattered, John laughs it off while declining. Undeterred, William approaches John a second time later that day, so he accepts. Imagine his surprise when John discovers who William actually is—the partial owner of the marine park. John doesn’t understand why a man who’s young, confident, and rich—who could have anyone he wants—would pursue him. When William shares that shifters are real, John wonders at the man’s sanity…until William actually proves it. Can John come to grips with his newfound knowledge and accept William into his life? Or will retiring and running be the decision of the day?
It has been a while since I got the opportunity to enjoy a story in this very interesting shifter world created by Charlie Richards. The idea of a marine park, World of Aquatica, being built and run by an alpha and beta while many of the animal “attractions” are, in fact, actually shifters is such a unique take on shapeshifter lore. Kaiser and William Roush are both squid, William being a giant squid while I am not sure yet what type Kaiser is, and they own and operate this fabulous aquatic park while protecting their very distinctive “pack” from being discovered by humans. John is Grisham’s (from the fourth installment) captain at the police station and his son and his family are visiting John when he and William meet. What a way to deal with a newfound mating, especially since John’s son seems to be a little bigoted! Uh-oh.
Each Book in the Beneath Aquatica’s Waves collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters I would recommend reading them in sequential order.
John was the captain of the police force and he loved what he did. However his son wanted him to retire and move south to be near them. He just wanted to do what he loved. When a night out with the family leads him to one hell of a sexy man, secrets start to come out. As well as the problems or at least problems for his son. Then he finds out William has a pretty big secret of his own and damn if it is not surprising for John.
There were a few issues with this story that made me drop the rating down a bit. For one it doesn’t flow as well as it should and it ended so abruptly. There could have been so much more added on to make it stand out which it did not do this time around. Also the police captain just didn’t seem to connect as well with his mate, which made it hard for me to connect with him. I do love how this author gives us some pretty unique characters to read about and makes their world stand out. Other than my issues it was still a good read.
I had a blast reading this and can’t wait to get my hands on the next story. I can guarantee that this is one of those stories that will be read many times over. I would definitely recommend this book.
To my ratings: A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
John and William had a very sweet relationship dynamic. I loved how the bad guys were handled in this story and how the truth about William was revealed to John. I enjoy this series and I found this to be a very pleasurable read. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series. =)
Dieser Band hat mir gut gefallen. Bisschen Drama, Homophobie, aber auch Liebe , Gefährten und heiße Szenen. Eine gute Mischung und eine gute Übersetzung. Man kennt schlimmeres 😅 Leseempfehlung ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I am absolutely loving this series. The author has created an entertaining story filled With humor, great internal dialogue, a great cast of characters we get to revisit in each book and a guaranteed HEA.
Each installment of this series is very fast paced and ultimately continues The story arc with Perisource. In this one the human mate is older, a nice change.
Se empieza a ver más diversidad Ahora me pregunto si en los libros siguientes obtendremos protagonistas que no eran gay antes de conocer a los shifters
