Rescue Alaska is the eighth series by USA Today Bestselling Author Kathi Daley. It is a fast moving mystery series with a paranormal twist.
Rescue Alaska is a small town in northern Alaska where visitors come to hike and ski. Harmony Carson is a lifelong resident who volunteers as a member of the local search and rescue team. Harmony has a unique gift which she often considers a curse. She is able to 'see' the individuals she is meant to help rescue, and more often than not she can feel their fear and their pain as well. When she isn't aiding in a rescue, Harmony works at Neverland - the bar owned by her brother in law Jake, and volunteers at the local animal shelter. Harmony lives in a rustic cabin with six dogs, four cats, six kittens, eight rabbits, and a blind mule named Homer.
In the second book in the series, Jake and Harmony are in the process of training a new search and rescue dog when they get a call that a four year old boy has gone missing from the cabin his family rented while on vacation. They join the search and rescue team, along with the local police, in the hope of finding the child before it is too late. Along the way they discover the freshly dumped body of an important member of the community. The police are stumped as to why this popular town resident would have been murdered, until Harmony inadvertently stumbles across something shocking, that might very well provide the lead they need to provide the answers they seek.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Harmony Carson works search and rescue in Alaska. Her young pup, Yukon, is training with team leader, Jake Cartwright’s dog, seasoned veteran, Sitka. Jake was married to Harmony’s deceased sister, Val. Harmony is able to establish a psychic connection with those she’s meant to save. Her Maine coon cat calms and grounds her after a grueling day or night’s work.
In this story, a deranged villain is stalking and killing townspeople, and the body count is rising quickly. All Harmony’s dogs and her wolf hybrid, Denali, sense someone lurking nearby. Believe me when I say this story kept my pulse pounding from beginning to end!
This has a lot of the ingredients I usually love - Alaskan outdoors and dogs to name a couple. But I just haven't warmed up to Harmony and her "gift" and I find the stories a little nerve-wracking. I don't think I will be continuing this series.
In this next book of the series Harmony is called in to help find a lost child, during the search she feels another soul in trouble and ends up finding the body of a local pastor. The mans throat has been cut and he was left to die a slow death. Who would want to kill a man of the cloth? When a second local goes missing people begin to wonder what is going on and what do these victims have in common. Harmony starts having nightmares the same night they found the first victim and has no clue if they are just nightmares or if she is truly seeing someone who needs her help. Follow along as Harmony tries to help the police figure out just who this killer is and why he has chosen these people. Along the way she takes in a moose baby, meets a new man, and continues to help rescue those who need her. This series is a bit more intense than what the author usually writes and I'm enjoying this new style of hers. I like how she is able to change it up and look forward to more from this series and these characters.
More cleaning up of all the books that've been hanging out on my currently reading list waiting for me to finish and review.
In Finding Answers, Search & Rescue gets a call about a missing child and they mount a search. After locating the child (safe and sound) they find a gruesome scene; the pastor for the local church is found murdered with his throat slashed. When several more townspeople go missing and are found dead, Harmony puts her special skills to work to find an evil murderer bent on revenge.
What I love about this series is how all these facets - beautiful Alaska scenery, the dogs, the close knit townspeople - make for such a strong foundation throughout the series. I liked the plot in this one, for one thing there wasn't much "sleuthing" as the police sussed out the killer and why before Harmony found out about it, her role was to help find a victim, not solve the case. And I think that's why I liked it to much; usually in cozy mysteries, the MC sleuths out the killer (and often tells the entire town and not the police what they know) and this was the reverse. That made it more realistic in my mind, one of my issues with cozy mysteries; in real life, law enforcement wouldn't reveal anything about the case to a civilian so that their case wouldn't be jeopardized while prosecuting. I understand the reasons for that trope in cozy mysteries, but this book is more organic and realistic and I appreciate that. Gives the book more authenticity. There's also very little in the way of romance, Harmony is attracted to some of the guys but there's no canoodling or flirting. Something else that makes it more realistic.
Overall, this was a great read; every bit as good as the first book, with a great plot. Realistic, authentic, exciting and moving, it made for a great read.
A very good second book in the series. Not what I would consider a cozy. I found the mystery compelling and well done, a borderline thriller. One thing that bothered me, though, was the characters addressing the new chief of police as Officer rather than Chief. I've never run into this; is this actually acceptable?
Next one in the series is due out in September, not too long to wait.
Anche questa storia non è male, è il forte elemento paranormale che non è molto nelle mie corde, ma è anche una parte fondamentale della storia stessa. Devo abituarmi ad esso...

Review:
As is usual with this author’s books, the characters are wonderfully created: they are realistic, well rounded and three dimensional. Harmony is a strong caring capable woman , and with her special ability, she sometimes has more than she can handle. It tears her up emotionally and physically but she still does what she can to locate missing people. The other members on her S&R team add a lot to the story, including the dogs.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and I felt the biting cold and all of the dangers out in the wilderness while I was reading this book. I liked the fact that there was more than one mystery to solve, I was engaged throughout the whole book. There were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider that I had a hard time playing detective and finding out all of the answers.
I would highly recommend this book, and series, to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. Search and Rescue books are some of my favorite genres to read and this one was excellent. This series is one of my favorites. Be sure you check it out.
While searching for a lost boy, Search and Rescue dog handler Harmony Carson psychically connects to a local pastor, who has been murdered and dumped in the woods. He's not the only victim the rescue team go after, putting Harmony straight in the cross-hairs of a killer.
With the first Rescue, Alaska Mystery, author Kathi Daley created a world of interesting characters, including psychic animal rescuer/dog handler Harmony Carson, her brother-in-law, bar owner/rescue leader Jake, and her old friend/shelter benefactor Harley Medford, a local boy turned Hollywood action star. They're back, plus more, in this new mystery, which unfolds as the story goes along. Plus, the new animal shelter is up and running, Harmony helps rescue a baby moose, and finds herself in a love triangle! It's a wonderful series that stands up to repeated readings.
This is the second book in the Rescue Alaska Paranormal mystery series. Finding Answers is once again set in Rescue, Alaska. Harmony returns with her pup, Yukon, who is in training to be on the search and rescue team. The beginning chapter provides the team with finding a lost child, but Harmony is also receiving visions of another kind. Something dark was also being sensed by Harmony. Although it wasn’t a clear image, it provided as sense of death. This is only one of many in this second book. We also are updated on the animal shelter that is being established in Rescue. There is also a hint of romance for Harmony. Kathi Daley has provided her readers with several new series lately. Each one provides a different avenue. I’ve enjoyed each series and hope for many more books to come from each series.
This is book 2 of a new mystery series with a paranormal slant, set in Rescue, a small town in Alaska, where people are more than neighbors, they have each other's backs.
When murder rears its ugly head, The local Search and Rescue (SAR) team (humans) Harmony and her brother-in-law, Jake, along with (canines) Sitka and Yukon work with the town's new lawman, Hank, to solve it, as well as a string of new crimes.
Could there be a hint of romance in the air as Harmony and Hank work together to try and prevent the murderer from continuing his spree?
This is the second book in Kathi Daley’s Rescue Alaska Mystery series and it is an excellent book. Harmony Carson volunteers for the local search and rescue team. She has a special gift that enables her to be a big help to the team. One of my favorite parts about this book is that Harmony lives in a cabin with six dogs, four cats, six kittens, eight rabbits and a blind mule. I love this rustic town and the people who live there. The author makes me want to move back to Alaska!
I love the main character in this story. She's bright, compassionate and psychic....which helps in her search and rescue volunteer group. Read book 1 in this series.
Four-year-old Vinnie Truman has been reported missing, and the search and rescue team has been activated along with rescue dogs Sitka and Yukon. Harmony finally senses the boy’s curiosity turning to fear, so time is of the essence. While searching for the young boy, Harmony senses a ‘darkness,’ a ‘danger,’ and someone dying. She knew someone was near struggling to survive and ultimately passed, and using Yukon’s skills, they discover the hidden body of a prominent member of the community…dead, evidence of being bound, mouth taped, and throat slit. Murder! But, it's Denali’s uneasiness, a sense someone is watching, and disturbing nightmares that really send Harmony reeling. Something is out there…
Edge of your seat, Wow! Kathi Daley has penned a great, close to intense, mystery. I cringed when Harmony took her fur-family out for their nightly constitutional…nooo, watch out! Her signature steady-paced and clever storyline also brings in many interactions with her fur-friend characters often making them, like in the Rescue Alaska Mystery series, a key member or a hero. Kathi also writes in a realistic manner…no one Investigates a murder 24/7, not even the police. She shows her characters with a life, like Harmony also waitressing at her step-uncle’s bar and working to make her new animal shelter a success. Ok, do you know how cute a baby moose is?
This is book 2 in the Rescue Alaska series by Kathi Daley. Harmony Carson is a part of the local search and rescue team in a small town in Northern Alaska. She, her brother-in-law, Jake and several members of their crew are called in by the Chief of Police to find a young boy who is missing from his family's vacation cabin. Each member of the team have an area of specialty and Harmony actually has the gift of being able to see the missing people and feel their fear. She is able to home in on the missing boy but at the same time she also senses someone else who is near death. The team including search dogs find the boy and then they discover a dead body of a murdered man that they recognize as a local minister. Following this rescue Harmony begins having nightmares about another woman who seems to be captured and in a dark place. This is not the norm for Harmony as she usually has visions only during her waking hours. Another call comes in for two missing women and the team once again makes another gruesome discovery. The chief and the team feel that they may have a serial killer on their hands. Will the Chief and the team be able to find the killer before anyone else goes missing? Will Harmony figure out why she is having the nightmares? This is a fast paced mystery set in beautiful Alaska. Harmony has a passel of animals including dogs, rabbits, a blind mule and a new baby noise and she runs an animal shelter as well as works for Jake at his bar. The characters are well developed, have believable small town relationships and are strong individuals who stand up for what's right. This book has an exciting, unexpected conclusion that makes you want to turn the pages faster to discover what happens. Another winner by Kathi Daley and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Kathi Daley's latest mystery series has more edge than her previous books. It has the dark attraction of television shows such as Criminal Minds, yet the animals and compassion that her loyal readers adore in each of her other series. There is no graphic violence or sex in this book, even though the disturbed serial killer is capable of violence.
Rescue, Alaska is a wilderness town where the residents need to be resilient and resourceful. Still, they come together and care for each other when the need arises. When several of the long term residents go missing, and are found dead, the search and rescue team join with local law enforcement to find a connection. Harmony Carson has a special gift which helps her pick up on the emotions of persons needing help. She also has a gift for helping and training animals, especially canines.
With a few gentle romantic undertones, and hints at some conflicts to come later in the series, we learn more about the main characters as well as the animals of Rescue. Much of the story focuses on searching for persons who do not return from activities and are out of contact. The subtle clues and sharp observances are interesting. Follow along as the pieces are put together.
You can read this as a stand alone book, but you will also appreciate the other books in this series.
You accidentally left your book in car and it is -10 out, what do you do? You grab your Kindle and read a book (or two). This was on my recommended list and off I went. I enjoyed this book tremendously. The paranormal portion is an important part of the story, but it featured in the right amount. This book was a cozy mystery but was a THRILLER also. The body count keeps rising, the victims are all connected, and you have to figure who the culprit is. The interaction of the characters is spot on. You feel the closeness, the sense of devotion to each other, and the purpose they have in having people. The part of these books that works so well for me it the feel of a real group. To be successful in any endeavor, you need a talent pool of people with different skills. It would have been easy to create a list of team members who are all athletic skilled climbers, hikers, and skiers. The author chose to develop different strengths. The only character who really doesn't work for me is the actor. He comes in just in time to donate money and save the day. I hope he develops more in future books. I couldn't put this one down.
The 2nd book in this cozy mystery series by Kathi Daley is as good as the 1st, I was hooked from the 1st chapter.
When people from the small town of Rescue in Alaska start ro be found, murdered, local girl and search and rescue team member Harmony, uses her telepathic powers to find them. There's a new policeman in town who is sceptical of her powers, but soon becomes to trust them, especially when faced with another town person who goes missing.
There's mystery, animals and friendship in this series, and it's a must read. I've read a few of the cozy mystery series by this author and this is one of her best series. If you like this series, check out some of the others, they're worth it. The books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
I really enjoyed "Finding Answers" as it brings you further into the happenings in Rescue, Alaska. Harmony has a gift/curse of being able to connect with the people whom she's meant to rescue. She and Jake, her brother-in-law, are training a new search and rescue dog when they're called to search for a missing 4 year old. In finding him though, they get more than they bargained for as they find the body of a local minister. In addition, Harmony's having visions of a woman being held captive in a cold, dark place. The search for the murderer takes some twists and turns before coming to an end.
"Finding Answers" is a great read and I highly recommend for readers of Kathi Daley and anyone who likes the paranormal.
Good mystery. The team are called upon to look for a little boy who wandered off by himself. They find him unharmed and scared, but while there Harmony picks up on a man who is dying close by. The dead man turns out to be a prominent citizen of Rescue, and the big question is why. Now a couple of scary things are going on with Harmony, as her dreams are becoming nightmares. Is she having actual nightmares, is she having prophetic visions or is the reoccurring dream reality? This has never happened before, especially as a killer is on the loose, killing prominent citizens for no apparent reason. Harmony will have to work closely with Chief Houston to uncover a dark secret behind these killings. Don’t miss this one - you won’t want to put it down
The second book in the Rescue Alaska series is one you don't want to miss reading if you love search and rescue stories and/or mysteries filled with intrigue, suspense, community spirit, and compassion along with some paranormal mixed in. The well thought out plot and well developed characters along with lots of interesting animals and interactions will keep you totally immersed in the story and definitely will find yourself finding it hard to put down till you finish story. I absolutely love this series and highly recommend.
This book is the second in the series. It could be read by itself but I recommend reading book number 1 first. That way you get to know the characters better. This story is full of people and animals. It held my interest from the beginning of the first book. I have already ordered the third book in the series and can hardly wait to get it. If you are looking for sex and swearing, look elsewhere. This is a good, clean book. It's well written, holds your interest and has just enough twists to keep you wondering about who the bad guy is.
I am loving this new series of Ms. Daley's. I love the setting in Alaska, the search and rescue group, the animals, characters, mystery and a touch of paranormal. Harmony is a member of the search and rescue with a gift of sensing people in need of help. When a search turns up an unexpected body, it leads to the search for a serial killer. This mystery is a little darker but well within the realm of a cozy. Between the mystery and search and rescue, this story keeps moving and keeps you turning the pages. I will read the next in this series.
A small town in northern Alaska, is shocked by the murder of Pastor Brown and then the disappearance of a retired doctor. As a part of the Search and Rescue Team, Harmony helps locate people lost on the mountain. She has a gift of being able to connect telepathically.
This is a fast moving story that grabs the reader at the first page and holds on to the end. I envy Kathi Daley her creativity, the ability to create the characters and stories that make her the beloved author she is.
What started as a simple search and rescue of a little boy who wandered off leads to a dead body of the local pastor. Harmony starts to have visions beforehand as a serial killer is on the loose as she her an array of animals will work their magic to find the killer before more victims are found.
Fascinating read by the writer a bit darker than her other cozy reads but just as enjoyable.
Finding Answers ( A Rescue Alaska Mystery- Book 2 ) By: Kathi Daley Finding Answers is book two in A Rescue Alaska Mystery series. I really enjoyed Finding Answers. It is a fast paced story with a paranormal twist. Harmony has a special gift that helps her in her Search and Rescue Team. The story is clean , well written , and the characters are so real. This story not only has one mystery but several to solve.
So many meanings of Rescue - the town, the team, the animals, lost people. This is yet another of Kathi Daley's series that grabs you from the first chapter, and makes you feel part of the story. Some frightening moments, but the loyalty of the dogs, as well as the S&R team, leave you feeling safe.
After reading the first book in this series I was eager to read Finding Answers and it didn't disappoint. It's a thrilling mystery that was hard to put down. This book would be good for anyone that likes a fast paced, can't put down all night read!
This is the second book of the series and is a great addition. There is a villain out to get people in his past- but why? A well written paranormal cozy mystery! Definitely worth the read. And don't forget about the Romance. Is it between two guys? hmmmm. There is tons of animals to fall in love with as well. I'm already looking forward to reading the next mystery.
