Paper Airplane is an inspiring book that teaches a valuable lesson for people of all ages. All breakthroughs, be they in science, literature, business, technology, or some other field, occur because instead of following the accepted rules, someone dares to create his or her own rules. This story is a powerful reminder that thinking outside the box can be a risk, but the potential reward can be worth it.
What will happen if someone approaches a problem in an unexpected way? What turns problem-solving into creative discovery?
This book, based around a story in which sixth-graders making and flying paper airplanes, relates how one student considered the problem and reached an unexpected, creative solution as he considered the problem from a different perspective. Suggesting that people who don’t follow conventional paths are likely to discover innovative ideas and solutions, it advocates the fostering of imagination and creativity.
Proponents of alternative thinking [better known as thinking outside the box] recognize that stepping away from conventional thought is often a risk, but the potential for a new kind of breakthrough may be the result.
This is a pretty cute coffee table book, and I like that it was also designed by our author. I am having a problem with the ending, the "airplane" at the end is not an airplane... Maybe I'm missing the point. I do value outside the box thinking and try to apply it where I can, but if the end result is so far off base from the requested assignment, then there might be some questions as to, 'are you thinking outside the box, or are you just doing what you want to do?'
An excellent book about not being afraid to think outside the box. Very simple and yet very profound ideas and advice all shared in a short and to the point book. Beautifully laid out and designed as well.
