A pretty good overview of everything you need for basic commentary, from tools to techniques. A bit dated, but still valuable.

With this book, you can build a house or small, commercial building from the ground up. If your goal is a little less grandiose like repairing the door leading from the garage into the kitchen, this can help you do that too.
Every tool and building material mentioned is defined for its use and then an example is given on how to use it. Excellent information and clearly laid out in simple English for even they guy (or gal) who has never set foot in a hardware store. Very recommended!
