It isn’t just English speaking Kipper-fans who have been patiently awaiting a comprehensive Kipper Book, a few German readers were also amongst those eagerly awaiting its release!

The Card Geek’s Guide to Kipper is not for beginners alone, experienced Kipper readers can also benefit from a look at the Traditional Bavarian reading techniques and spreads, from which we have, up until now, not heard of. Unfortunately, in the English-speaking reading community the Kipper cards have been transformed into a Lenormand-like reading entity and the traditional Lenormand reading techniques applied, which does not do justice to the original Kipper laying techniques. Thank goodness Toni explains clearly and understandably how to use the traditional techniques. If you were hoping for a list of combinations, you will not find these here, but you will learn how to combine and form your own contextual combination database based on directional cues and card terminology (which is split into a card by card explanation and images) that allows you to automatically perform combination reads in your own right!

All in all, I fully recommend this book to all readers and it is already comparable with Rana George's "Essential Lenormand" and Andy Boroveshengra's "36 Cards..." (für Lenormand).

The beautiful, modem cards (which are to date the only deck truly covering the directional cues of the Original Kipper deck, indispensable to any serious Kipper reader!) and courses taught by Toni Puhle (Founder of the World Kipper Association) are available direct on her website. From my own experience on her courses I can confirm Toni to be a wonderful teacher who is not selfish with her knowledge and motivates students to find the solutions they seek using clear spreads and even the Grand Tableau seems easily manageable with her instructions.

Thank you Toni for this book and that you make learning a new system so easy! ❤

Whether you are a complete newbie or an expert Kipper reader (unlikely if you are not familiar with Toni's teachings), this book will blow your socks off! You will learn everything you need to know to read Kipper cards like a boss, not like you would read Lenormand cards as some might think but as they should be read, according to the traditional Bavarian method. Everything is covered, from the historical background of the cards, to detailed meanings and most importantly tons of mindblowing spreads - from the simple 3-card spread to the powerful Grand Tableau (using all 36 cards). This is an encyclopedia, workbook and live teacher all in one! Extremely accessible for all levels of readers and refreshingly well written. A true gem!!!!

Honest review from a pro Tarot Reader with 19 years of experience ~

I read The Card Geek's Guide to Kipper Cards by Toni Puhle in conjunction with The Art of Kipper Reading by Alexandre Musruck . Unfortunately, I didn't personally find any positives about Art of Kipper Reading when comparing the two, and am only keeping Card Geek's Guide to Kipper moving forward.

The amount of historical information and cultural context from 1800s and 1900s Bavaria in Card Geek's Guide to Kipper vastly overshadows anything in Art of Kipper Reading.

The bulk of Art of Kipper Reading is just lists upon lists of single sentence card interpretations paired with other cards in various contexts. The layout of Card Geek's Guide to Kipper is more like Essential Lenormand by Rana George , which I think is the best Petit Jeu Lenormand resource. Card Geek's Guide to Kipper not only references the historical meanings of each card and their positions, but modern interpretations in a variety of contexts as well.

Card Geek's Guide to Kipper features traditional Bavarian Reading methods, whereas Art of Kipper Reading simply rehashes Petit Jeu Lenormand Reading methods. Since PJL and Kipperkarten are two different systems, I feel the latter does a disservice to the essence of Kipper.

I also personally found it annoying how often Art of Kipper referenced the author's Youtube subscribers and social media presence -- it felt like reading a blog rather than a go-to resource on Kipper.

All that being said, Card Geek's Guide to Kipper is not without its flaws. The main drawback to me is the lack of professional editing. There are numerous run-on sentences and a major lack of proper punctuation -- not just commas, but periods as well. The other issue is the tiny print on the cards images; I'm unsure if the author intended the book to be read with the deck shown, which I don't have, but it can be difficult to see which cards are in the Spread example.

Whether you are a Kipperkarten newbie or simply want to refresh or enhance your skills, this is the book for you. This book will provide you with working definitions, symbology, and directional context for each of the 36 cards in addition to giving you cool spreads with practical examples through out. Readers will appreciate the step-by-step guidance provided for the daunting Kipper Große Tafel. Toni breaks the Kipper GT down in such a way that, assuming that the reader's question/intention are clear and the steps are followed as outlined, even a new reader can perform a respectable GT. Note: Please do not read Kipper with directionally-incorrect decks (I won't call them out here). IMO, you lose most of the flavor of Kipper when you treat it as if the directions don't really matter/can be 'translated,' etc. Just as one should not, IMO, read Lenormand decks with extra cards in 'true' Lenormand fashion, or read oracle cards in the same way as one reads Tarot, so too should the nuances of Kipper be honored. Do yourself a favor and get a Card Geek Kipper deck or ASS Kipper Wahrsagekarten deck and save yourself a lot of frustration. Happy reading!

The book is really in depth for what it is, but for a starter book it can get overwhelming and confusing for new to kipper (myself) reader. Especially the card spread, if you avoid that section until you get familiar and comfortable with kipper and the cards meanings should be used as a great reference.
