This book introduces the view of the ancient Israelites about their natural environment. Its purpose is to help to create a response to the current environmental crisis from the Bible.
But I have found this book interesting far beyond this concrete objective. First of all, the author analyzed different texts of the Bible and Mesopotamia, Egypt and Canaan and he finds a common framework of ideas.
Secondly, he shows how these common ancient middle Eastern concepts can be found through a great part of the Bible (genesis, exodus, the prophets, job).
In doing so, he has helped me to understand that exist some repeating leitmotifs in the Bible and it has helped me to understand something like a inner structure of the Bible, that is useful not only in the AT but also in the NT (Apocalypse's symbols: river of life, new Jerusalem, the cosmological disasters, eschatological combat with the beast, ...).
A very recommendable book for anyone interested in deepening his understanding of the Bible.
