The United States has entered the war. However, it will take time before America can commit ground troops to the battle. Col. John Randal and the men in the American Volunteer Group who have been serving with Raiding Forces are back in US Army uniform serving under their own flag. Raiding Forces is being expanded into a joint US/UK outfit. As it is, reorganizing events in remote parts of the world require Col. Randal and a team of his Raiders to carry out a pair of long range operations of national strategic importance. Meanwhile, there is a mole in Middle East Command HQ that Rommel calls his “Good Source” and the German 621 Radio Intercept Company is providing the Desert Fox with the Allied Order of Battle that have become serious threats. Lady Jane is under suspicion of being the mole and Raiding Forces has been ordered to track down and kill the 621st’s Nazi commander. The action is nonstop.
Phil Ward is a decorated combat veteran commissioned at age nineteen. A former instructor at the Army Ranger School, he has had a lifelong interest in small unit tactics and special operations. He lives in Texas on a mountain overlooking Lake Austin.
I read most of the series a while ago then got distracted by other mid-adventures. I am enjoying it even more now than ever. I love how real events and historical figures are woven into the stories. One has to read with great discernment and care an awful lot to separate the truth from fiction. I prefer to keep tongue firmly in cheek as eI am sure the author has since grade school.
Keep them coming! One can imagine the series running right up to the present day…..and beyond perhaps?
This book has a lot of things going on at the same time! Things are getting more complicated for Col. Randall as the war continues. I like the way Mr Ward describes things. He makes it easy to picture a scene, or envision what it must be like when your parachute fails to open! I have enjoyed reading this series, as it seems to cover a part of the war that is somewhat obscure. It appears to be true that there is a mole in their organization. I sure hope that the last line of this book is not true!
Col Randle and his menagerie continue fighting in the Mediterranean theatre and continue collecting beautiful women. Piecing together enough healthy men to carry out his clandestine missions causes headaches but has a fruitful ending.
Randal's Forces expand and once more are thrown into the dire needs of the Brtit's inept efforts in Africa resulting in major, almost calamitous, losses.
