After I take the exam I'll have a better idea of how well this guide covers exam scope, but for now I'm taking off one star because the English is often poor, perhaps indicating some chapters weren't written by native speakers and no editing was done. But I give the book credit for plodding through the features in an evenly distributed way and at what I intuit to be an appropriate level of detail.

I picked up “AWS Certified Developer – Associate Guide” because it was the only study guide for the exam from a tech publisher. The book published in September 2017 which means it covers version 1 of the exam and not the current (June 2018) version. AWS exams are tough for authors because they change regularly!

From the reviews, I was expecting the book to be riddled with errata. There were some, but it wasn't bad.

I was disappointed by the practice questions. There were no end of chapter questions which is a common feature in certification exam books. There were two mock exams in the back. However, they focused more on facts than scenarios. And even more importantly, there were no answer explanations.

The actual text was good. It covered many things you need to understand for the exam and many things you don't. If one were to memorize everything in the book, one would waste time.

But the book did accomplish my goal of being able to learn a lot on the train.
