A book on counselling skills for students of counselling and psychotherapy. • High quality reference links to podcasts, articles and downloads to support your learning. • Written in easy-to-understand (non-academic) language - Counselling skills theory decoded into plain English • Bonus downloadable audio files that demonstrate skills in action - Listen on your smartphone, tablet or computer • The perfect skills book for any student of counselling or psychotherapy - Easy reference to complement your studies In my book, I go beyond offering just a theoretical definition of what a skill is and an explanation of what it does in a counselling relationship. I share a deeper look into the skills and explore a more philosophical explanation from my own experience as a practising therapist and former counselling tutor - Kenneth Kelly
A super little companion for level 3 trainee counsellors and indeed myself at level 4. Simple to read and Rory gives good explanations of the skills and why we use them. Highly recommend.
This book is perfect for a very light overview of counselling skills. To give the reader/student an idea about them. I did expect more from it to be honest. Though I have found it’s concise manner helpful for assignment writing!
I started my counselling journey listening to Ken and Rory on their amazing podcast. Ken definitely majors in counselling skills so to have him write a book that clearly explains them is a gift. Very clear definitions.
For me, at the start of my journey, this has been really insightful and interesting. Breaking things down into easy to understand sections and covering more than I have so far looked into. Would highly recommend.
It's in the title: Basic. However, if you're a student and studying then this is a wonderful little guide to keep with you especially in the first few months of school. Or if you've taken a break from studying, this will refresh you instantly.
Basic, but very useful. Especially the bit about contracting in the very beginning.
