To solve a high-profile abduction, one former-police officer must confront a dark past.
A child’s abduction leads to a frightening pattern within a South Florida town where nothing is as it seems. Amidst the vast wetlands, suburban sprawl, and tropical heat, the Lee County police department knows what to expect on any given day. But when a serial child predator stakes his claim in the area, there is no knowing when and where he will strike. The parents of the latest victim are baffled to receive no ransom demands, given their wealth and influence. And the town is in an uproar as the girl marks the fifth child to vanish.
I read the whole thing. I waited for twists and turns but I got nothing. I made it to the end but it was just an okay book. Maybe if I would have read the books one at a time instead of all together or might have been better. It wasn't bad though. Not at all. I liked the story and Miriam, the heroine, very much. I enjoyed the story and I am glad I read it. There were some plot holes and I wish that some of the characters were more fleshed out and all the pieces tied up but I still finished it so it had a good main character that I liked. The other reviews have the outline of the story so I will leave it with that. Overall two good stories.
I enjoyed the story line very much. The main character, not so much. I had a hard time with her I'll do it myself attitude. She ignored her bosses and her partners on the police force. That did not sit well with me.
This box set is 6 books altogether. I love the fact that as soon as you finish 1 book you can continue onto the next in the series. This is every parent's nightmare, to have a child taken and not know where they are. I like this series because not only because it's a great story but it includes the Officer's personal and professional insights. It shows that law enforcement officials are human too.
While it was a good concept, it needed considerable editing. Too much unnecessary description and I felt as if the latter half of the Odessa Story was stuff that failed to make the cut in the first half. This lost a star from my rating.
Great Mysteries tend to be told by a single voice, that of the detective. The author felt the need to tell every villain's story. As a Mystery fan, this lost a star from my rating.
That said, these books were engaging enough for me to finish the set. If you enjoy Crime Stories, "The Abducted" is worth reading.
I have never read anything by Roger Hayden before and i have to say although i enjoyed the Abducted box set i am totally exhausted from reading it. But not in a bad way. This author is very talented and has a great imagination. There were times when my suspension of disbelief was challenged but he put all the pieces together and i calmed down. I highly recommend this box set but will not read any more stories about abducted children. Dale Floyd stuntschool.ca
I’m glad I downloaded the entire series as a set instead of one book at a time! Following Miriam through each case of abduction to its conclusion grabs you and wants you to keep going through each book to get to the next one! Can you imagine an abducted child, what would you do to try to find that child, even at great risk to yourself? As you follow her from case to case, you can’t help but become involved in the emotions of those who are seeking the abducted!
This was an exceptional criminal thriller, and the characters were very well developed and the more you read, the more you get drawn into the plot. I did not like the fact that Miriam was not a team player because in a real life situation her mistakes would have blackballed her from any police force, but with that said, so much great story in this series.
Exciting page turning the only thing I didn't like was when the story reverted back on some suspects and what they had done. As in from their side of the story but thats just me well worth reading if you like fast paced up to the minute details she's a bit of a lone wolf which doesn't go down very well with some. If there is any more I wouldn't hesitate in getting them. magdg
I did have issue with the underground bunker and basement in Florida everglades. No one would put a bunker underground in Florida it would be full of water. I have seen a basement but the owners have to run a pump 24/7. Its technical but important.
The other issue is why Mariam never questioned Ray Gowdy further in regards to Philip Anderson’s dealings since he was an accomplice. He just disappeared.
This boxset was everything I looked for in a police mystery. The emotions that were described were so descriptive that I felt I was in the action. Miriam was a very believable detective and I was surprised at the amount of trauma she endured and survived. Her daughter also displayed equal courage. I enjoyed following the antics of the perp and the lengths he went to to cover his crimes. In the end Miriam was the hero and the perp paid for his crimes.
I had never heard of the author before but decided to pick this box set up because of the price. I'm glad I did! I read through all the books, one after the other just like marathoning a TV show, only more exciting.
There are a few typos or places that the editor missed a word, but the ideas are good and the stories stand alone well, but are even better together.
Read one book after another with out putting them down.
I've actually read the series once before and picked it up again. The first one captures you and you can't put it down . One of the best series I have ever read. Roger Hayden did a great job with the story, plot and characters. I'd read another series now.
I loved this box set! My attention was grabbed on the first page and was kept until the very last page. The characters were very well-developed and described in great detail. The writing was excellent and the story was fast paced and riveting. I could not put this book down until I was finished!
I enjoyed this series. I give it a 4 start because as a series it's like u read something that u already read once.. The stories where great. they really had me going. One will also break ur heart.. U will not want to stop till u finish. thanks for a good series..
The only reason I am not giving this series of books (bought as a set) is because Miriam never followed police procedures in her search for the suspects. In reality, she would have been killed because of it. It was a fast read in spite of this. I enjoyed the series, but a good proof reading is in order for various mistakes.
What a wonderful thrilling book about child about child abductions and the lives of the people who were involved in one way or the other by the incident
I loved that the author looked at the incidents from the eyes of the law enforcement agencies involved as eliminate as that victims and the perp
This was the first and maybe last book I've read by Roger Hayden. The story could have been toal in half the size of the 6 book set. There was way to much retelling of the same thing. The way he told the story I didn't connect with any of the characters. I knew who the kidnapper was as soon as the character was introduced to the story. It just didn't hold my attention.
The story would have been good if it didn’t repeat paragraphs word for word multiple times, as well as characters repeating phrases so often it was eye rolling annoying. The audio was terrible with the narrator mixing up accents, repeating lines and even pronouncing names differently at different times throughout.
Just finished "The Abducted Super Boxer: A Small Town Kidnapping Mystery. Again, I was well pleased. I started reading and just kept right on until there was no more to read. Many thanks to author Roger Hayden. Job well down! Now I can check out what you have for me next. I love to read.
If you like mystery and suspense this is the series to get. This set keeps you on your goes wanting to know more. Miriam keeps you wondering her next step along the way.
Although this was a wonderful series there were many spelling and grammar errors, however I would recommend it to others.
Miriam, detective, searches for kidnapped girls. She goes all out to find clues often alone to the concern of her colleagues. These bad men seem to call to her and she soon faces them. A final standoff has her asking herself if this is the one moment her tormentor will kill her? Will she be able to secure release of the victims?
I have loved reading all of the books about Miriam Sandoval. The decisions she made always seemed, to me, to be good ones, even though law enforcement officials weren’t pleased or comfortable with her. And she saved those she intended to help. Great stories!
A great mystery series in a box set. I highly recommend this one. Interesting characters , suspense , thriller and situations. Hope you will enjoy this book as munches me.
I enjoyed this box set from beginning to end! While sometimes the story is stretched there is just enough of "this could happen" to keep you reading. And you want to see how it all ends.
After reading the first book and then finding the book set I couldn't stop reading.
I loved this set of books. The author keeps your attention and makes you feel as if your working with the detective. I think I found a mere author to follow.
This Abducted series was a great read! I had a hard time putting it down! I enjoy police drama and these were well thought out with a real edge. Miriam Sandoval is a character I'd like to "meet"again.
It became harder and harder to stick with it due to the continued stupidity of the main character. Premise was good but the heroine continually went “lone wolf” and lost my any creditably in the process.
It was a gripping page Turner. Characters were fully developed and plot line was wonderfully established. I enjoyed the whole set. However just one question. Why did we never find out who the moles were inside both departments? Thank you for such a great story.
I read the back and I decided to get this set, and the price was very nice too. However once I started reading and the Author's sense of humor is like mine. I wanted to read more and deliver the insurance and outs of the story. I loved it all.
Miriam the main character works hard to find the girls. Not only that but finding the man snatching the girls is key. She doesn't always follow procedures.
