Tressa is a fly girl accustomed to the lavish lifestyle that her possessive, deranged, baby's daddy, Lucky, has provider her with. In order to keep her high post standards of living, she has excused so many of his unforgivable actions. It is not until he pulls off the ultimate stunt that she realizes that no mink coat, car, house or any amount of money is worth her peace of mind.
Never blinking or thinking twice, Tressa leaves everything behind, with the exception of her street savvy, and sets out to make a life of her own, one that would be filled with hard times and even harder luck. Tressa soon finds herself making the transition from public figure to public assistance. Every day of her life seems like one drama-filled chapter after another. From the baby daddy drama, to the backstabbing friends, to the various unforgettable men she sorts through and disposes of.
There will be times she has to struggle and scramble just to make ends meet, and other times when she will stand tall and hold her own.
In this captivating tale, Tressa's voyage will expose readers to a side of a struggling single mother that has yet to be revealed to them
Nikki Turner, the best selling author of A Hustler's Wife, once again will take readers on a safari through the jungle of the fierce and stormy streets, leaving readers on the edge of their seats begging for an encore.

After Nikki Turner read The Coldest Winter Ever by Sistah Souljah she was dismayed that there weren't other books like it. "I wanted to write the kinds of books I wanted to read," said the bestselling author, whose 2002 debut novel, A Hustler's Wife, would go on to sell more than a few 100,000 copies.
While Nikki Turner's first two novels were published by a small publishing house in the Midwest, in 2004 she signed a 2-book deal with One World, an imprint of Ballantine Books, which is part of The Random House Publishing Group. After publishing the first book under that deal, The Glamorous Life in 2005 as well as a short story collection edited by Nikki, Street Chronicles: Tales from da Hood, One World quickly signed Nikki up for three more Nikki Turner Original novels and negotiated a deal with her for her own book line, Nikki Turner Presents. "I want to give new authors the same kind of opportunity I was given," said Nikki. "I want to produce authors who will be household names."

The name of my book is called The Project Chick by Nikki Turner. This is a fiction book. The theme of this book is "any resemblance to actual presons, living or dead,is purely cioncidental. The main charaters are khalil,Tressa,Lucky,Taj,and Wiggles.
At the beginning of the book tressa was going threw so much with her brother(Taj)and boyfriend(Lucky). This book came from love,to getting locked out the house, and then to having to get out of a crazy house before Tressa got hurt.During the middle of the book Lucky and Tressa became besfriends and as well as boyfriend and giorlfriend. They made to loving boys which came out to be twins. But all the loving changed when Tressa found out that Lucky was letting girls into there out apartment which made her think he was nothin but a dirty unfaithful dog.Toward the end of the book Tressa caught up with one of her brothers(taj)ex-girlfriend in which they called her Wiggles. She was both a friend and a sister to Tressa.she was the only person that cared to help Tressa when her and her boyfrind was getting into it,and helped her a her kids. She placed lucky in his own fear and mad him feel like she was feeling when she was with him.
This is a very interesting book it changes throughout the chapers and it keeps you thinking about wants gonna happen next.My favorite Part was on page 70 of my book when Wiggles said to Tressa,"Tressa,I am still your sister, and no matter what,I am gonna be here for you when you need me".that touched me because even though Wiggles was a dope head and a fein then she still cared about Tressa and was willing to always be there for her. This book is very descriptive and it didnt affect me at all.
I would recommend this book to mature readers, teenagers.parents, and to every single mother left to fein for herself!.If you liked The "Project Chick",you would like Darma Queen because they both talk about struggles and drama also charaters are almost the same.

THIS BOOK IS SO PHENOMENAL , I GAINED ALOT OF KNOWLEDGE BY DECIDING TO READ THIS BOOK. A PROJECT CHICK HAD ME FEELING EVERY EMOTION POSSIBLE. I HATED TRESSA AT FIRST BECAUSE I FELT SHE WAS DUMB AND TOO MATERIALISTIC, I FELT SHE WAS SELLING HERSELF SHORT BY BEING WITH LUCKY, BUT AS I CONTINUED TO READ FURTHER INTO THE BOOK I REALIZED SHE WAS SMARTER THAN WHAT I EXPECTED AND SHE GREW AS A PERSON. SHE HAD A LOT OF HARDSHIPS IN LIFE BUT CONTINUED TO BEAT THE ODDS AND DID WHAT SHE HAD TO DO AS A SINGLE MOTHER. I HATED LUCKY ASS WITH A PASSION ALONG WITH GYPSY. AS A SINGLE MOTHER MYSELF THIS BOOK GIVES ME SO MUCH HOPE FOR ME AND MY SONS Future. I WAS SO HAPPY FOR TRESSA WHEN SHE FINALLY GOT HER HAPPY ENDING BECAUSE SHE REALLY DESERVED IT :)(: WHAT A GOOD BOOK I AM GLAD I STAYED UP TO FINISH IT THIS IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE BOOK BY NIKKI TURNER. IT SHOULD BE READ BY ANY AND EVERYONE.

I thought I already wrote a review for this. It was my favorite by Nikki Turner . So good Ima buy my Kindle copy.
T had to deal with a lot the stuff she went through had me shaking my head. But no matter what she went through she did not let that stop her from Being a good mom. I was laughing and crying like how can someone do their own baby mama wrong baffles me. The title threw me off T was far from a project chick & even when she was in the projects she didn't act like none of them broads. When she found happiness I was so happy for her and when BS turned things upside down I cried with her. Any woman that's struggling and don't think it won't get better need to read this book. Karma is real and so is God , if you do good people wrong you better watch your back. Everyone got what they deserved in this book if you asked me.

This Book was good, but not great!!! It held my interest, but it could have been better. Some of the scenarios were so deragotory and stereotypical. This was about a a young girl naned Tressa who lived a hard life and met a not so Lucky baller named Lucky. He gave a life full of the finer things, but he was SUPER JEALOUS!!! So much so he killed a friend of hers juet because he was giving her a ride home and he did it in front of his own TWIN SONS! This was the last straw and she finally left. It was not an easy rode, as he basically robbed her of all she knew. MONEY. Tressa had to make it on her own, and that meant raising her kids in the pissy projects. Lucky made her life a living hell, but slowly she was able to triumph and Lucky well lets just say he gets his in the end!!!

I absolutely loved this book. I love it when a book can make me have many different emotions. I laughed, I cried, I smiled, I got mad, and I sang and danced. I listened to the audiobook for this title. The narrator was the bomb. I will listen to any book Carry Hite narrates. Tressa was an intelligent, good girl who truly had a hard life. All of the people she loved were taken from her either by death or jail. When she meets Lucky, she thinks her life will make a turn for the better. Unfortunately, how wrong she was. Lucky was a lunatic. See how Tressa gets down. You can't keep a good woman down.Believe that! I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a good urban fiction book without all the grit.

I was hooked from the first few pages like the other Nikki Turner books I've read. It was drama filled with crazy twists and turns! I loved the naughty little twins and Tressa was a great main character. So glad Lucky got his in the end... karma always comes back at you!

I thought I had read Nikki Turner's books before but I can't have, because this was TERRIBLE. Like most Triple Crown Books, this is in need of an editor but the problems are SO MUCH WORSE than that. The whole story was so banal. It was stupid and boring. Almost none of it made any sense. I kept listening because I thought the revenge on Lucky was going to be so good... naw. No, it wasn't worth it. I mean, I guess it was better than nothing but I was expecting something really crazy. Eight hours of torture after all he did? Shoot, he could have just gone to jail, that'd had been a more interesting ending. He certainly put Tressa through more than 8 hours of torture!

The writing was so terrible. I only jotted down one particularly stupid line, though. "Quail are the only living objects that are immune to hemlock." Yup.

I did like Wiggles and Tressa was also an interesting character. She wasn't always likable and I was always curious about what she was going to do next.

But a lot of characters were just introduced and disappeared for no reason. Why did the scene with Mr. Bill's wife even EXIST? That was stupid. It was pointless.

And Tressa's brother was such a disappointment. All that time in jail and he's on THE SAME CORNER on THE SAME DAY he gets out? C'mon, that's ridiculous. And the storyline with his son and that babymomma... I don't even know what to say.

The story about Indy and the alligators was dumb too but I kind of liked it because it was a soap-opera-like twist. I, however, was NOT amused that he said he spent his days in hiding reading Nikki Turner books. All the side eyes for that one.

I also did not enjoy Cary Hite's narration of the audiobook. His delivery sounded like vintage William Shatner.

I don't usually go in for "urban" fiction as constitutionally I am opposed to the seemingly enumerable depictions of young Black women living in metropolitan areas being beleaguered by those oft called upon demons; drugs, abusive men, and a general misunderstanding of how to operate effectively. I get sick of it. That said Ms. Turner pulled this one out. The main character is no project chick but a woman bound and determined to deliver herself and her children from a life of poverty whether financial or spiritual. Overall an awesome job by an effective writer.

I liked and enjoyed the plot. Sometimes it was all over the place. That isn't the worst part, there were so many grammatical errors and spelling! It really made the book hard to read.

There is not much new that this book provides. We get some decent story with Tressa overcoming adversity after leaving her crazy drug-dealing boyfriend Lucky. However, it gets ruined when she meets Indie, the drug dealer with a heart of gold who sweeps her off her feet. It totally erases her story if not needing to be rescued. The villains are straight out of Tyler Perry; they’re all irredeemably evil and two-dimensional. Too much exposition within the characters thoughts, and we don’t need a whole bio of how someone is two-faced and then read about them doing something two-faced. I’m sure Nikki Turner is an amazing author, but this is not one of her best.

Tressa was not only a project chick. She was a great mother to her twins, a woman with a lot of love yearning to be loved back, a survivor, and a fighter. Like many of us, she fell in love with and had kids with a man considered fool's gold. Lucky was too good to be true....not a loyal bone in his body! He was hell bent on destroying Tressa when he was the unfaithful, disrespectful, narcissistic asshole! I am so glad she continued to fight and let karma win her battle!

This book should be titled Karma! For every action there is a reaction and sometimes Karma may take a while to come back to people but once she hits you . It’s real ! This book finds Tressa young and full of promise but she falls for a man named lucky and he is anything but. We find Tressa at some highs and some lows. Honestly this book was hard to put down. Will start part 2!

I liked this book but felt that it was cheesy and overplayed in some parts. Thought the book was longer than necessary and that the main character was kind of irresponsible and childish.

Starts off with an attention grabbing event and escalates from there. Realistic, gritty portrayal of hood life.
