Building Powerful Learning Environments: From Schools to Communities

Rate this book
Building Powerful Learning Environments takes a close look at the trends of the Post-Digital Era through the prism of how systems of education can meet the needs of our times and offers a systemic approach to creating a different canvas for learning that aligns to these changes. At the center of the book are the concepts of a learning environment and a culture of partnerships.A learning environment has traditionally been viewed as something that educators created and sustained inside their schools. Building Powerful Learning Environmentsexpands this understanding to embrace families, communities, other learning institutions, and businesses not as helpers, but as co-builders of a powerful learning environment. It demonstrates that schools have to take the first step in this direction by becoming the center of a new educational culture - a culture of partnerships. This book looks into various ways of creating this culture at district, school, and classroom levels. It provides practical guidance, strategies, and tips as well as some conceptual understanding of what can be done to create and support this culture at various levels of educational leadership. --Thom Markham, founder of PBL Global, formerly of Envision Schools and the Buck Institute for Education, author of "Project Based Learning Design and Coaching Expert tools for innovation and inquiry for K-12 teachers"

A useful book that frames (or reframes) depending on where you’re at on the continuum what a leaner in the 21st century needs from a learning environment and just what constitutes environments with the fourth industrial revolution well underway.

It’s straightforward and uncomplicated in its delivery. I highlighted a few sections.

What I like best about this wonderful new book by Arina Bokas is that it not only embraces a whole-child approach to education, it extends this holistic outlook to include schools, families, and the community. This book is packed with fresh insight and practical advice, especially regarding specific strategies for how to include and engage parents at the school site. This book is thoroughly researched and provides eye-opening and pertinent background information as to where we have been and where are we are headed in terms of properly educating our children. Teachers, parents, and concerned community members alike will find much to use and reflect upon in this book as they each do their part to build more powerful learning environments.
