Every gift from God reveals his love, but no gift reveals his love more than the gifts of the cross. These gifts came not wrapped in paper but in passion. They were not placed around a tree but around a cross. They were not covered with ribbons but sprinkled with the blood that Christ shed on our behalf.
In this five-session video Bible study, Max Lucado explores the many gifts that Christ provided to us at his crucifixion. These include not only the gift of the cross, but also the gift of the thorns that pierced his brow. The nails that tore his flesh. The seamless robe that he removed for us. The empty tomb where he forever defeated sin and death.
The hill of the cross is rich with the gifts of God’s grace. These were gifts he didn’t have to give. The only required act for our salvation was the shedding of blood, yet God did so much more. So, as we unwrap these gifts, we need to pause and listen for his voice. As we do, perhaps we will hear him whisper, “I did it just for you.”
The He Chose the Nails Study Guide includes video discussion questions, Bible exploration, personal study and reflection materials for in-between sessions, and an additional session for churches and small groups using this study as part of Lent.

Great study to do as a group, especially if you have the DVD as well. The sacrifices made for our benefit is especially clear. Thought provoking as always, Max Lucado keeps it real.
This study guide was helpful with reading the book and watching the DVD through the Easter season. I recommend having this book to use with the book and the DVD. I have always enjoyed Max Lucado, but this lesson was not my favorite.
He Chose the Nails is a great book for a Bible Study group. We watched the videos and did the Study Guide. It’s easy for teachers because it’s laid out well and you won’t need to do a lot of prep or extra study. There are daily verses to read and things to look for in your reading. Each lesson has questions for discussion. A section is included for taking notes during the video. The videos are very well done and each short story adds dimension and color to the teaching. Our group of fifty or so ladies said they enjoyed the lessons and the videos. Max brought out some aspects of parts of the crucifixion that drilled in great insight. I recommend this study.
Overall, a great book for the Lenten journey. By placing the focus on the nails, crown of thorns, robe, and cross, Max gives a good outline of what Jesus did for us.
My group had a very hard time with this study guide; not sure if Max Lucado wrote this or not. As the study leader, I found the study info in the back of the book much more helpful than this for group discussion.
Just about anything Max Lucado writes is amazing. He is by far my favorite author. This study guide is no exception although it is based on a book that is now 17 years old. I also used the video curriculum as a part of a Lenton series leading up to Palm Sunday. Great stuff.
I found this study difficult to follow. I didn't understand how the daily verse readings tied into that week's homework or to Lent. I need more details and guidance in a study.
