Once children begin to read, they also need practice differentiating between vowel sounds, recognizing sight words and strengthening comprehension. Now I'm Reading Level 1 Advanced challenges beginning readers by mixing up the five short vowels that were previously introduced in the Level 1 titles. Now I'm Reading Level 1 ADvanced gives children the opportunity to master reading short vowel words before moving on to long vowels in Level 2. Join yaks, bats, and chimps in 10 clever stories that build on the short vowel sounds introduced in Level 1. Each story combines two or more short vowels to challenge kids to differentiate vowel sounds. It's a great way to further reinforce strong reading skills and build reading success!
Between my 6 year old becoming a more confident reader and now my 4 year old learning to read, we’ve read a TON of beginner reader, sight word books. I love so much about this series and it’s by far my favorite. They come bound together so you don’t have a million little books laying around and they are written so well. The stories are super engaging and funny and they progress is a way that’s not overwhelming. We’ve read many more from this series, but I figured I’d just review one.
General review for the Now I'm Reading Level 1 series -
Perhaps my very favorite phonics book, I mean books. There are 10 books here, each with a different vowel (or 2 books with one vowel sound). I love how the books build on earlier words - A cat. A tan cat. A tan cat sat. and so on and so forth. My new reader has gained a lot of confidence and speed through these books.
The pictures are hilarious (and in color) and we spend a lot of time laughing about them. He also loves to put a sticker on the front when he's read a book. The stories are a bit silly, but there's not much you can do when you're reading simple words. We've tried several, many, lots of different phonics books and thus far, these are the winners. I also love how they are stored in the plastic sleeves, all neatly tucked into a small book. No hunting all over for them and they stay nice and neat, not bent pages.
I have all 3 Level 1 books. We use them all, although the last book deals with consonant blends which he's still not totally fluent in. I'm not sure if we'll use the Level 2 books or if he'll be ready to tackle "regular" books by them. We'll see soon enough!
my son loved these books...we really doe snot like to read but he loved these books and even initiated reading them aloud on his own!! The art work is goofy and stories a little humorous...jsu the right touch to capture a reluctant readers attention...
Excellent set of phonics readers, one of my favorites right up there with the "we read phonics sets". The funny and engaging, full-colour illustrations really set these readers apart.
