Dogs are constantly communicating with their masters and fellow creatures. A look, a pose, a movement of the ears or their entire beings express their feelings. Get to know your dog better through 50 detailed poses. They will be useful to you on a daily basis but also when training your dog.
Understanding Dog Language by Aude Yvanes has good line art in it. To go with the art is a description of the scene/dog language. There is about a paragraph an illustration but unfortunately there is so many spelling mistakes. Practically every page. There is not that many pages and only a paragraph or less a page, you would think it wouldn't be that difficult.
I’ll let you judge for yourself whether you want to waste your time reading this book by supplying you with some ridiculous quotes directly from the book below.
Be warned - there are adds sprinkled in the book for your enjoyment - one encourages you to get a sample of “the lemon miracle.”
The author consistently refers to the dog’s human as his “master”. I am not my dog’s master; my dog is my non-human companion. The only thing appreciated about this book was that the author did not refer to the dog as “it”.
“Praise him each time he comes back but above all don't tell him off if he doesn't come to you.”
“When it's towards a female, the raised tail means he wants to seduce her.”
“If you notice this behaviour when you're telling him off, lower your voice.”
“You can quickly see his ears lower when you punish your companion for being naughty.”
I think if you have 0 knowledge of dogs, know nothing and have spent no time around a dog, you would already know 70% of this book. Harshly, I’m glad it was a free book. I think there were 2 sentences I highlighted. One about the hyper visualization reaction and second was relative to the teeth chattering reaction, this out of 74 pages. It’s a good book to flip through and guess before you read it what that body language means but it lacks detail and other potential meanings.
It is nice to know others things I could teach my dog but it would be better if they have other books for female dogs that one was all male and I could barely learn anything from my dog.
I wrote I 4 star review because now I know more about dogs but not girl dogs and yes they are bothered different boy and girl dogs are different.
Thank God this was a free book, if I would’ve had to pay it I would’ve not been a happy camper here. The drawings were horrible a elementary school student could do better. Instead of HE’ LL they spelled out the word so evidently they didn’t use spellcheck. I recommend not to buy this book.
A quick read that is full of worth-while information aimed at broad audience. First time dog owner, an old hand with a new dog in a bred you've not previously dealt with. Most intriguing to me is the style. I wish I'd had this several years ago when I was accompanying my youngest grandkids down the "we want a dog" trail and struggling with the responsibilities that come along with ownership.
The book is easy to understand and recognize the behaviors being described. There needs to be some proof reading done bc there are a lot of "hell" instead of he'll in the descriptions. A few places where there's a missing word or incomplete spelling.
A complete waste of time. I don't think that this book was edited. Spelling was bad. The title is misleading - I imagined a book with an in-depth comprehensive look at the topic.
The price was right. But I did not really learn much that I had not already figured out on my own. You can read it about as quickly as you can turn the pages.
Lots of good and useful information here in the short guide on how to interpret dogs’ body language. 🛑 There were a lot of misspelled words, though, throughout this book.
