With Ties That Bind: Broken Bonds Book One

Alternate cover edition of ASIN B01C9JT2H6

*Book 4 in the Broken Bonds series, With Ties that Bind is a spin-off set in the Broken Bonds world. It is recommended to read the With Visions of Red serial prior to beginning this book. This book contains spoilers to With Visions of Red.*

Detective Ethan Quinn has questions. The Arlington Slasher case is closed, the UNSUB no longer a threat—but Quinn can’t quiet the suspicion he harbors toward his partner and the young, attractive M.E. Not only does he loathe his uncertainty, he’s torn between doing his job and protecting his team.

But burying himself in cases no longer works. He’s restless. On edge. And tired of fighting his compulsions. Quinn has always viewed the law in black and white. Only now his world is swirling with a murky gray that threatens to devour him.

When lead medical examiner Avery Johnson careens toward a dangerous path, she pulls the unwitting detective into a dark web of deception and lust, triggered by a spree of recent killings.

Is this new player linked to the Bathory murders, or is it another copycat?

Time almost took Avery from him once before. As the clock ticks, Quinn will stop at nothing to protect her, refusing to let Avery become a victim again. Against his uncompromising logic, Quinn can’t deny his feelings. Avery forces him to acknowledge his darker desires, tempting his control—which weakens with every second he spends with the feisty M.E. as they hunt down the perpetrator threatening to tear them apart.

My Thoughts:

I have become obsessed with Trisha Wolfe's Broken Bonds books. These are the very best of the best dark erotic thriller romance stories filled to the brim with climatic suspense. They leave readers on the edge of their seat, begging for more! Be prepared, don't start this book unless you have enough time to read it all in one sitting, because if you are anything like me, you will not want to stop until the last page is read. My life has been hectic with responsibility, therefore, I couldn't achieve this, and found myself obsessing throughout my entire day about Avery and Quinn's story.

The With Visions of Red Serial comes before With Ties that Bind, and needs to be read first to avoid major spoilers. The Broken Bonds serial focused on Agent Sadie Bonds, Love interest Colton Reed, and a deranged serial killer. Now, Sadie is a secondary character, and the Broken Bonds series focuses on two different characters.

Medical examiner Avery Johnson feels broken and forever changed after her traumatic capture and torture at the hands of a psychotic serial killer. She has lost her libido, and is determined to get it back. Therefore, she is using her skills to develop a solution to her problem. She also finds herself engaging in perilous and risky behaviors, which is her way of dealing with the after effects of her traumatic experience.

Detective Ethan Quinn is struggling with his morality. He has always seen things as black and white with no gray area, and done his job by the book. However, while working his last case, the black and white lines got blurred, and forever changed Quinn's way of thinking about and doing his job. He is very protective of Avery, and doesn't know how to help her, but is always there when she needs him. When dead bodies begin turning up, and clues point to the very real possibility that Avery may be in danger again, Detective Quinn makes a promise that he will protect and not fail her again.

With Ties that Bind was a scorching hot read. The close friendship and attraction shared by Avery and Quinn, along with the anticipation and longing for one another added to the sizzling quality of this story. I was rooting for these two from the very beginning. Avery knew that she wanted Quinn, but he kept trying to keep things between them platonic. I wanted him to give in to his desires and toss out his rule book!

Ms. Wolfe gives us another mystery that will leave readers desperate to piece together and solve. We get a little glimpse in to the killer's head, but I want to hear from him more. I'm hoping the sequel will be chock-full of the killer's perspective so I can learn more about him, see what makes him tick, and begin to put the pieces of this puzzle together. I'm already beginning to work out some theories, but I need more information.

All I can say is that the Broken Bonds Serial and Series are have-to-reads! They are utterly fantastic! We get everything that you could possibly want in a phenomenal read. These stories take you in to the minds and lives of these characters. Reality disappears, as you eat, breathe, and sleep characters who are so real and tangible. The mystery, suspense, and thrilling and erotic plot gives you a reader's high, from which you will never want to come down. Yes, I suffer from a major book hangover after I finish each and every one of these books. Like a junkie, I am feigning for the sequel of With Ties that Bind. There is no doubt in my mind that Ms. Wolfe is a master storyteller, and other writers could learn a lot from her.

My Rating:

I give, With Ties that Bind, by Trisha Wolfe, 4.5 Addictive and Spellbinding, Dark Temptations, Mystery Killer, Frenzied Passion, Give Me the Next Book Now Filed Stars! What a fantastic read!!!

Original Review @ Naomi’s Reading Palace

Quinn was a character that I loved in the With Visions of Red books. He was passionate about his job and would do anything to protect those that are part of his team. When I saw that he was getting his own books I was so excited! And with Avery… *fist pump*… With Ties That Bind was a clever and intense read that I eagerly devoured and now I’m impatiently waiting for more!

Quinn was just like I remembered, but now I got to see the softer side to him. His feelings for Avery have been there for some time and he constantly wants to protect her. He’s very good at his job, and will do anything to get to the bottom of his most recent case.

Avery has found it a little hard to readjust to life after what happened to her. She is physically alright, but she has scars, both inside and out, and she has lost a lot of confidence with herself when it comes to intimacy. She has developed something to help her, but she soon realises it is linked to Quinn’s latest case.

I enjoyed how the story unravelled and the connection between Quinn and Avery slowly strengthened. I thought the last unsub was twisted, but he was a small fish that was obsessed! The Alpha in With Ties That Bind cares nothing about people and has no problem about getting his hands dirty and sacrificing those who displease him. It was a thrilling read, with a superb storyline, with characters I cannot get enough of.

No one and I mean no one does dark like Trisha Wolfe!

Dark reads tend to make me feel dirty, depressed and often have me feeling like reaching for the nearest razor blade. Trisha's dark makes me feel deliciously naughty and wildly wicked! I love it!

With Ties That Bind is a faced paced, wickedly sexy and deviously thrilling read from the twisted mind of an uber talented author. I mean, seriously, who else can come up this stuff?

After furiously devouring every word in this book and finally getting what I wanted and needed most - a glimpse into the mind of the killer himself, my favorite part of all The Broken Bonds books - I still have questions. Who is the Alpha,? Who is the leak in the department? Will Quin find out if his suspicions about Sadie are true? Is he willing to even go there? AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, when will Quin finally get his rocks off? Okay, so he got a little taste but not nearly enough to cure the worst case of blue balls I have ever read!

I can't remember the last time I had so much fun reading such a dark twisted book. Oh wait, yes I can, it was With Visions of Red.
While it may be possible to understand this book without first reading With Visions of Red, I think any reader would be doing a huge disservice to themselves and the quality of the experience if you didn't.

Note to the author: Now that you have climbed out of your writing cave and cleaned yourself up, I'm gonna need you to crawl right back in, neglect your personal hygiene and give me the next installment. Both Quin and I are waiting!

I love Trisha Wolfe and the way she writes romance and mystery, suspense, crime, and everything she has in her books, but this one didn't really reach my level of expectation.

I am kinda bored of their story already and while in other books I don't get the full American feeling setting, in this one I feel it all the time, which bothers me.

Both Avery & Quinn annoy me with their decisions. I couldn't connect with them the same way I did with the other couple from the first 3 books or any other books she wrote. They annoyed me a lot sadly, I went through it very hard and I'm not sure if I will keep going. Somehow I want to finish this series and find out what happens, who is that guy, I'm way too curious for my good.

I love her writing, and her other books, this one just didn't hit a spot inside of me, that's all.

So. Freaking. Addicting!
No one does disturbing psychological thriller like Trisha Wolfe. I was always intrigued with Quinn since the Broken Bonds trilogy and now I can say I'm in love with this protective and hot detective! And I have such utmost respect for Avery; she's a true survivor and despite how terrifying it's gonna get for her, she's still got fight in her. The sexual tension between these two - holy cow.... It's just as intense as the whole murder mysteries. Speaking of; I cannot wait to dive into book 2! Off I go...!

A good start of the With Visions of Red series' spinoff. I loved hearing more of the characters we got to know in the previous series, although this can be read as a standalone.
If you like gray characters, a well built intrigur, and gruesome infused mystery plots, this book is definitely for you!

description

Trisha Wolfe delivers another wickedly satisfying thriller. From the very beginning we are thrust into the dark and gritty world these characters call home.
Dr. Avery Johnson, medical examiner for the ACPD, has just lived through hell and has come out the other side forever changed. The once driven, sensitive, and spirited woman is now a shell of her former self. She's become closed off, cold, and scarred; spending her days just going through the motions. As Avery spirals out of control, a rash of murders has everyone in the office on edge. To make matters worse, Avery once again becomes a target.
Detective Ethan Quinn, lead detective with the ACPD, is trying to stay focused on his current case. He's a hard working and intriguing man. With another serial killer murdering women in his city, he has his work cut out for him. Despite everything, he can't seem to get his mind of his beautiful and strong coworker. He vows to do whatever he can to help Avery, to keep her safe. As a "black and white" kind of guy, Quinn is struggling with the gray he repeatedly finds himself in.
Both Avery and Quinn are complex characters with extreme internal struggles. While they are two very different people, they are also similar in many ways. As a couple, they are intense. The sexual tension is palpable. I can't wait to see where things go with them, how they affect one another. Wolfe truly has a love and understanding of her characters that transcends the page.
If you've read any of my other reviews, you'd know I'm a huge fan of Wolfe's Broken Bonds series. It's difficult for me to gush without restating things I've already written. However, four books into the series and I continue to be captivated by her storytelling and ability to weave a mystery. Her writing transports you to the heart of the story and allows you to lose yourself in her words.

It's always hard for me to write a review about a book, when I know it's the first in the series, kind of like saving judgement until you get to the point...hahaha!

I liked Quinn in the Visions of Red series, he came across as domineering and protective and kick a$$ at his job, so I was very happy to hear that Trisha Wolfe was spinning off a new series with him as the main focus, along with Avery Johnson, the lovely M.E. in distress at the end of the previous series. Since I'm not much for cliffies, it's been on my TBR list as I patiently waited for the final installment of the series which is due to come out shortly.

This series opens with a new case, or is it? And Quinn seems to be struggling, with work and personal issues and changes, but his core personality, the trait I liked most about him from meeting him in the first series is still very much evident. Still trying to be that "by the book" cop, still commanding and controlling, but he's struggling and I like this side of him as well.

He and his team have been through an ordeal and they're all trying to regain their footing while continuing on, but there are some outside the line issues they'll need to face and broken trust that needs to be mended. Unfortunately, police work doesn't take much of a breather and they're all thrown right back into the fire and this new "Alpha Killer" means business.

I'm enjoying getting reacquainted with these characters, and I like the slow burning sexual current between Quinn and Avery it's more satisfying and believable than the insta-love, jump in the sack plots of a lot of stories today. On several occasions during this first book I wished I had reread the last Visions book again, just to refresh the referenced details, but the author has provided enough that I'm able to get up to speed.

Well on to next week's episode of Criminal Minds....oops, I mean Broken Bonds book two, let's go catch us a bad guy!

WOW! And I mean...WOW. Trisha Wolfe is THE QUEEN of twisty, suspenseful plots with heat and spark and so many winding layers you'll gladly get lost down the rabbit hole of darkness and depravity along with her. The shit she comes up with is seriously mind blowing. I continue to be in awe of her talent, her stories, and the way she seems to weave you directly into them.

With Ties That Bind is a spin off of With Visions of Red, so I would highly recommend you read that amazing series first, but I was always team Quinn. From day one. I loved him in With Visions of Red and I was probably among the few that rooted for him to be with Sadie, so to see him get his own story with Avery...well...that's the icing on the cake. And Quinn...man...he's the king of alpha's. I absolutely LOVE his inner monologue and learning about the way he really thinks. I love when an author can write a strong male hero, especially if they are penning from their POV, which Ms. Wolfe does very, very well. And Avery...well, she's the epitome if every heroine I love. She's strong minded, independent and in need of a strong man to love her.

This is one series you will want to dive into head first and never come up for air. I'll be sad when this series is over, but I anxiously await the next book and will savor each savory word Ms. Wolfe spins.

I seriously don't know where to start!! Are you ready to dive deep in the wicked mind of Trisha Wolfe again?!

I don't know if Trisha likes to torture her readers, herself, or her characters more!

This is a spin off of With Visions of Red so if you haven't read that series I would start there first or you will be a little lost seeing as there are references to the first books.

I was super excited that Quinn and Avery were going to get a book! I absolutely LOVED IT! Trisha takes you on yet another roller coaster ride, keeps you guessing throughout, holding your breath, looking over your shoulder, and leaves you begging for more. If you enjoy dark, twisted and oh so sexy then you will enjoy this book.

This book was BRILLIANTLY written from the plot to the characters! It's told in the POV of the main characters and she doesn't disappoint when she gives us a sneak peek into the mind of the perp. The chemistry if off the charts!!! At the end she will leave you cursing her out because YES there is a huge cliffhanger. Like I said she likes to torture!! (sadist) ;) I can't wait for the next book in this series!!

Not surprisingly, Trisha Wolfe has once again kicked some serious butt. LOVED this one. Ethan was hot. Did you hear me? HOT!!! The story was fast-paced and the writing was phenomenal as per usual with this author. Warning: This one is kinda dark, but if you're like me and you like your fiction with a lot of shade, then look no further than this book.

Well, guess books are like movies. Sequel's just rarely ever match up.

Not to say this one was bad, it was good. Had I not read Born Darkly, Madly first, I may have give this one 5 stars. But, not so.

This one falls a bit short to me. Maybe I had too high of anticpations/expectations following the aforementioned book by Trisha.

Next time???

“Good and evil. Yin and Yang,” she says. “One doesn’t exist without the other. We have to fight our way through the darkness in order to save the things we love the most.”

“A man obsessed is a dangerous thing.”

Move over Sadie and Colton, there is a new couple in town!! As much as I loved the darkness and intrigue that surrounded Colton and Sadie, I have to say, I was super excited to get Quinn and Avery’s story. You see, I have been curious about these two for quite some time. There was always something about the two of them that just drew me in, and now their story is finally being told.

Told from dual points of view, With Ties That Bind picks up right where Broken Bonds #3 ended, but now it’s Quinn and Avery’s turn to tell their story. And boy what a way to start of their story. There is a new criminal in town and his actions will not only shock you, but they will leave your head spinning. Quinn has one agenda; one thing on his mind and that is to protect Avery. He wants to keep her safe, no matter the cost. But, of course you know that nothing can ever come easy and in With Ties That Bind, the stakes will be higher than ever and only time will tell if Quinn is able to keep his promise.

I have to say, I was really impressed with Quinn. I’ve been intrigued by him for a while and I really enjoyed getting to see this other side to him. I loved getting the chance to get inside his head. He’s got a lot of internal struggles going on and I really enjoyed experiencing those struggles first hand as he fought himself and his self imposed rules. And Avery, she has been through so much and the hits just keep coming for her. That being said, I really enjoyed seeing her new connection to Sadie. It gave me a lot of insight not only to their characters, but also brought some new insight into the events of Broken Bonds #3. And I have to say, I really liked the connection between Quinn and Avery. Their relationship started off with a real slow burn and slowly built into something scorching.

I think this series is off to a fantastic start. With Ties That Bind is dark and thrilling. It’s full of danger and surprising twists and turns. It is sexy and full of steam. Trisha Wolfe does not disappoint and really knows how to take her readers for a crazy ride. Her stories are filled with suspense and mystery, with twisted darkness thrown in for good measure. And With Ties That Bind is no exception. It definitely delivers and will leave on the edge of your seat, begging for more. I am really looking forward to seeing where this series will go and what dark and twisted journey Trisha Wolfe will take us on next.

I wanted to read With Ties that Bind because I love Trisha's writing, and as you can see from above, I have read everything she's published and was lucky enough to even read some that wasn't since we helped each other while we were writing novels years ago. She writes characters you can't help but love, and knows how to really put the suspense and the heat into hear stories, so that you never want to put them down.

I devoured the serials of Broken Bonds (visions of red books) and they should be read before this because there are spoilers. This is no different and it gets me into the minds of secondary characters from before that I really enjoyed and was glad to see that they would get their time in the spotlight. The story is told in dual narrative from Quinn a detective that was partners with Sadie from the previous books, and Avery, the victim of torture of the serial killings from Visions, she was taken because of her friendship with Sadie and the fact that she was a member of the force, a medical examiner where Sadie worked.

Avery is still traumatized from the torture and kidnapping from the book before. She has nightmares, and PTSD. She took comfort from Quinn while she was still in the hospital where he would hold her hand and it helped to ground her. Quinn is hard core attracted to her, but tries to hide it for a lot of reasons. I liked watching their relationship and friendship continue in this one. Avery doesn't get a break and she keeps seeing everyone especially Quinn as trying to pamper her and not think that she is able to handle life. She can't see that they just care and want to protect her.

This one is fast paced, and had a lot of character exploration. Avery doesn't get a break though. She is still trying to feel more after her attack, especially sexually, and she is trying things that normally wouldn't and Quinn sees some of this and isn't sure. She is also in danger again which adds to the suspense in this one.

A third POV is added too at the very end which is not all so surprising with the Visions series as an example. It is from the one behind the attacks of the girls and shows us that things are even more complex than we could imagine, setting things up for the next book.

I read this in one sitting and can't wait for the next installment. Trisha doesn't disappoint! She brings on the emotions, the suspense, and the break neck pacing of the plot.

Bottom Line: Steamy, fast paced, and love the characters getting more in depth from previous series.

Quinn and Avery are no Colton and Sadie, but I enjoyed diving back into the world of Broken Bonds.

I read the first book in this series as an eBook, then went back and reread it when the audiobook was released, since the audiobook version of this series combines all three books into one.

This series, like With Visions of Red, works as a series or as a completed book. The physical and ebooks give you little breaks if the darkness is a little too much for you all in one sitting.

It isn’t for me. Not at all. Give me all of Trisha Wolfe’s darkness.

In fact, Avery and Quinn were almost a little too “light” for me (which isn’t saying much, trust me) in comparison to Sadie/Colton and London/Grayson (Darkly, Madly Duet).

One of the best things that TW does is dig deeply into the dark minds and Avery and Quinn are much more “normal” than the previous characters of hers that I read.

By the second book, I started losing interest a bit, but by the third book, my interest spiked again. I loved the ending of this series, particularly how London was briefly mentioned. It made me smile hearing her name. I love knowing what I know now about Sadie after having glimpsed her in Born, Darkly.

I pretty much have loved all the female characters in TW’s books that I’ve read, and that, unfortunately, is pretty rare for me.

The female characters here are strong and fierce without being obnoxious. They are subtle in their dark badassery and I appreciate that.

Seeing Sadie and Colton from Avery and Quinn’s POVs actually made me love them more. I love seeing how others view Sadie after being in her head in With Visions of Red. It’s obvious that she doesn’t realize just how intimidating she is.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Avery, too. I loved Avery in the first book. But Sadie is certainly a much more interesting character.

Quinn isn’t necessarily my cup of tea, he’s a little too much of a stereotype for me, but I really liked him with Avery.

Overall, these books are worth reading, especially if you were a fan of the Darkly, Madly duet and the With Visions of Red trilogy.

With Ties That Bind
Trisha Wolf
4 stars

** You need to read the Visions of Red Books prior to reading this book as there are spoilers to that series. **

Ethan Quinn, Sadie and Avery Johnson are back. Avery is still suffering from the torture she endured in the Visions series. Her nightmares plague her living a normal life. Quinn was there for her but after she was released from the hospital its as if things changed. Quinn seems to be hiding his feelings and Avery is tired of everyone tip toeing around her. If she is going to get past the trauma in her life everyone needs to get a grip and quit treating her like she is going to break … although she feels like she is.

Just when Avery thinks she can start moving forward, even if its in the wrong way, her life is threatened once again. She thought the dark was gone but its not. An additional character is brought to us in this one and you aren’t going to want to miss this characters thoughts --- holy wow.

Im not going to divulge anything else because its too good to even give a hint towards. This is some evil twisted stuff though on these pages. Im smiling just writing what I know you are going to jump into. Click the previous series up first though and then dive in here. You wont be sorry!

Thank you for the ARC! Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.

Trisha blows me away EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Her plot twists are unlike anything I have ever read before - she has a completely crazy mind that I want to get lost in over and over. While yes, this is a second in a series, it can also be read as a standalone.

Ethan Quinn is a seriously hot detective. He knows that something deeper is going on with Avery - I mean, she was just abducted afterall. But he's so used to seeing things in black and white, he's starting to get concerned that he's letting gray cloud is vision. When a potential new serial killer starts up again in Arlington, everything starts to get twisted quickly.

Avery is once again at the center of everything. She's made some choices that thrust her right into the danger zone - exactly where she had just left. I freaking loved her though. Even though she's been through a lot she's strong, smart and completely awesome.

Trisha writes characters that have just enough dark to balance out the light - there's seriously hot sex scenes, tons of secrets and the fast paced thrilling ride that you need. This cover is hot as hell and the story is well developed, smart and scorching. Get to know Trisha NOW.

You know, when I read With Vision of Red I fell in love with Ethan Quinn. I did. He was my favorite character. BTW, I don't think you NEED to read WVOR to read this series, but why wouldn't you want to?

Anyway, let's get back on track... WTTB

Seeing as this is an erotic suspense/thriller you have to understand something: You will need to change your pants for a number of reasons. Here they are:

Reason One: Ethan Quinn - I can't stress enough how amazing this character is. He is strength, vulnerability, sex, morality, intelligence, and determination personified.

Reason Two: Avery Johnson - This chick is fierce! Broken? Maybe, but not beyond repair. I hope. but she doesn't quit, Aves is a fighter. She is also one of the sexiest leading ladies I've come across. The rare rawness of her desire coupled with {HAHA not gonna tell you} set me on freaking fire.

Reason Three: You will sh!t your pants. The bad guy or guys or perps or whatever. Depraved. Disgusting. Delicious. Sorry, but then again, no I'm not. Every story needs a good bad guy, and Trisha creates some of the best.

Needless to say, I highly recommend this book.

When I finished reading the With Visions of Red trilogy, I thought there was no way that the story could be extended, as much as I wanted more. But Trisha Wolfe has blown my mind, again! Sadie and Colton's story may have ended, but Quinn and Avery's story has only just begun. With a new perp on the loose, and Avery's life on the line, Quinn might just be convinced to throw his rule book out the window.

I can't wait to see where this series is headed! I love these characters, and it's no secret I like the dark and twisty. And let's not forget, Sadie and Colton are still around, so maybe later in the series we'll get a peek at how their happily ever after is going as well. :)

I received an ARC for an honest review of With Ties That Bind: A Broken Bonds Novel, Book One (Broken Bonds Novel #1) by Trisha Wolfe

I love that Avery and Quinn now have a story, I really believe you should read the entire series of With Visions of Red (Broken Bonds 1-3) before you start this series. Once again Trisha Wolfe delivers an exciting and entertaining story that has you asking for more!

The danger to women in the city isn't gone although the Arlington Slasher case is closed. A new series of killings has Detective Quinn working closely with Avery, which puts his control into test. The desire between them grows but their situation of being colleagues and her currently fragile state of mind after what was done to her make everything a lot more complicated.
'So now I have a secret, too. I slip my hand into his large, rough one and curl up next to his strong arm, savoring the feel of his comfort for the last time.'

Well, I'm here because of Quinn. =P I loved him in the With Visions of Red Series and couldn't wait to see him lose some of his strictness, because he has that need to be in control at all times. And now the current events have his control slipping from him with a new murder on the streets and the woman of his desire in danger again.
I loved seeing Quinn a little bit unhinged because he was torn between protecting Avery and keeping his distance to her.
'A man can only be tested so many times before he breaks. And Avery Johnson is a whole different kind of temptation.'

Just like the previous series, this book was also a short and quick read, and I’m sure the next two will be as well. The suspense made it seem even faster because you just want to know what will happen next and aren’t able to put the book down. Of course the ending has me at the edge of my seat and I’ll dive right into the second book.
'Being in control of my surroundings and myself is what keeps my instincts sharp. I depend on it at all times. But with Avery, I feel that control slipping, weakening more and more every second.'

Avery made it really hard for Quinn to resist her. And who can blame him?! She's such a temptation. I can’t wait to see more of the safe and guarded Quinn losing control of his black and white life. I loved his protectiveness and need to see him unravel and shed his controlled demeanor to protect the woman he has feelings for.

Back in the lab Avery is locked in fear as she tries to settle her nerves after what happened there. Eventhough, Detective Ethan Quinn rescued Avery Johnson from the dungeon three days ago her life is still in danger.

Quinn is a by-the-books type of detective. He works off of a black and white belief system following protocol and procedures. He has a responsibility to get these killers off the streets, therefore he’s built a wall between himself and these two female co-workers. Both these women are a temptation he’s struggling with.

Sadie is Ethan’s partner and a victim herself. The last case they worked had Ethan angry with her. She broke protocol going against everything he believed in, so he removed her as his partner.

Avery is a medical examiner. The last time we met Avery she was abducted and tortured by the Arlington Slasher. Getting back in the lab has been challenging for her. She struggles mostly with her sex drive. That seems to have been stolen from her after being tortured. She concocted an aphrodisiac to help arouse her.

Trisha Wolfe has found her niche in writing these serial killer storylines. Each one brings readers closer to dark twisted characters that thirst for sex, pain, and love. These are broken characters trying to persevere the abuse and torture of being a victim. There are many explicit sex scenes to tantalize the most beautiful parts of intimacy.

Avery and

Even knowing this is the first book of a three part serial, the ending slipped up on me...no climax, no cliffhanger, it just ended. And it left me scrambling for the book store to buy the next two books.

Avery Johnson, MD, is back at work and is coming to grips that she was forever changed by her abduction and torture. She has designed an aphrodisiac to help her fan her lagging libido and to calm the reflexive fear she feels when men get too close. But when she gets into trouble, it's the by the book Detective Ethan Quinn she calls. Yet she holds secrets she can't share with him, fearful the truth will send him running. Circumstances surrounding a new crime spree once again pull her into the darkness, however, as she becomes the target of the one behind it all. The one the press has dubbed the Alpha Killer. And without all the facts, how will Quinn be able to help protect her, especially from herself?
