Did not finish, too much drama for me

The 3 set volume was free. The first 2 books took a long time to read and parts I skimmed just to see who the girl ended up with. I felt like I was reading a reality tv show script which I never watch due to the manufactured drama and cattiness.

Claire I couldn’t relate to at all but at first I thought I’d like Rebecca but then her crazy inner dialogue started over ghosts of the current boyfriend’s dead wife and her ex-boyfriend being so attractive when he returns after being away 5 years.

I will tell the author that the characters I cared enough about to see who they ended up with at the end and at times I liked them. But the endless agonizing over committing to the man who loved them was grating and occurred in the first 2 books. I had to skim to the end because the internal dialogue of both women made me think they would end up with a different man.

Finally, I realized I would never relate to the women, whom were immature and indecisive to the point of annoying. The escapades they got into were just not funny most of the time. Most of the problems were due to no communication between the H/h and manufacturing drama. The men acted confused at the drama and were portrayed as clueless and distant. Finally, I just couldn’t handle the mundane things in their life and wanted my own distance. If others like zaniness and the single bar scene, you will like this book.

All three books were cute, easy to get through, rom-coms. They used a mixture of the same characters for all of them but that wasn't necessarily a negative issue. The hardest part was going from one person's POV in the first book to a different person's POV in the second one when those people were best friends in the first book. When I first started the second book, I kept forgetting that Claire was no longer the main character. Overall good character development, the stories all moved quickly, there were some funny things going on but also some "come on just say what you mean" things. If you take nothing else away from these stories, take this...COMMUNICATE. Most of the so called problems in these stories was that the people weren't being completely open and honest with their partners.

I would recommend this for anyone who likes cozy, quick reads, and romantic comedies.

Got the set of three books. Read only the first in the set. It was not good at all. All i saw was the lead character kept getting drunk, stumbling etc.. Getting drunk, throwing up. Waking up strangely all happened a little too much for the book to actually work

Three books that kept me amused

The lives an lives of the people of Richmond. I loved how each each character developed. Some fun and comedy some love and life.
Claire, Rebecca, Gina and Jane are just a few of the feisty ladies who are looking for their men.

I stumbled upon Carol Maloney Scott's first novel, "There Are No Men" last year. I could not put the book down. I loved following Claire's never-ending disasters to find true love. I can definitely feel for her since we normally have to hit every roadblock before with get to the finish line. I felt like I knew Claire personally, wanting to know more about what happened to her as I turned each page. When I finished the book, I desperately wanted to know what else happened to Claire and her new beau. I was thrilled when each of the additional stories came out. Claire's friends all have dynamic personalities. Carol makes you feel like you are in their inner circle, and you want to know what happened to each and every one of them.

In the 2nd book of the series - "Afraid of her Shadow", we get to see what is going on with Claire's friend, Rebecca. Rebecca too is looking for love in her 40's, and met her significant other through online dating with Claire. Her boyfriend is a entomology professor who is a widow. The baggage that comes along with him often proves to be overwhelming and unfamiliar territory for Rebecca. Like Claire, Rebecca often follows the paths plagued with disaster. Additionally, the problems along the way make for hysterical reading.

Finally, we meet up with Claire again in the third book, "The Juggling Act." Now, she is married, a mother and working full time. She went from being single to an overwhelmed mom and wife very quickly. When she and her hubby are having problems, Claire ends up on a business trip with a former admirer and co-worker. It tests her marriage, trust and sense of humor. As always, Carol makes you want to know more and more about Claire and the gang in Richmond. I cannot wait to read the rest of the stories.

A Series of Chick Lit Books to fall in love with. The books can be read as stand alones but I recommend reading them in order to follow along with everyone's lives especially Claire. Grab this set of books if you are looking for a couple of great, funny reads to give you a little pick-me-up.
