From the moment I saw you again, I knew you could undo me. I knew I should stay away from you, but I couldn't. I can't. The only thing I can do is make you mine.

Can you get a sweet and sexy romance with Melanie Harlow's signature brand of light-hearted humor while dealing with a very heavy mental health issue? In the case of this book, that's a resounding hell yes. As a matter of fact, I'm in awe of the author for actually pulling it off as well as she did. She wrote fantastic, multi-layered characters without taking away anything from their issue but still managing to write a feel good sort of romance. That's no small feat if you ask me.

I feel like I've been impersonating some version of myself for so long, I don't even know who I am anymore.

Skylar Nixon is down on her luck. After a reality TV stint where she was encouraged to play up the bad girl for views, she's back to her home town to lick her wounds. A failed actress, she can now add hated reality TV show character to her resume. To say that the small town she grew up in welcomes her back is a mild understatement. After all, she did badmouth the town and it's residents, even if it was clever editing by shady producers. Now here she is, no career, no prospects in sight, and no one but her family and two sisters to turn to for support. But then a blast from her past changes everything....
You make me want to take chance I never thought I'd take again."

Sebastian Pryce was the shy, awkward kid growing up that had no friends. He may have gone to the same high school with Skylar, but there's no way she remembers him. After all, she was the popular beauty queen and he was the awkward loner. But while he may not be the same boy he was back in high school, his issue are no less easier. And the beautiful blonde tempts him beyond all reason.

The romance between Skylar and Sebastian was this wonderful mix of emotional and quirky. I absolutely loved Skylar's internal monologue. She was the lighthearted opposite to Sebastian's quiet brooding. She was the perfect ying to his yang. It's not often you read about MCs that so perfectly balance each other.
Deep inside me, something began to tighten.
Too deep.
THAT deep.
Oh god. Oh no.
Please, please don't let Sebastian Pryce own the one cock that can reach The Spot.

Some Sort of Happy had this fantastic balance of sexy to sweet, emotional to humorous. It's everything I love about the author's writing and yet it was also something more. I was positively enthralled in both characters and their romance. And fans of Frenched get a nice little surprised in this book as well, which was the cherry on top. If you're looking for something a little different but still with Melanie's signature writing style, this book is IT. Simply put, I loved it and I can't wait to get more Skylar and Sebastian with the next book.

I think Melanie Harlow is a great author who writes really fun books, but unfortunately this was my least favorite book by her. And I've read them all, with the exception of Yanked. My average rating for her books is 4 stars, so I promise I read this with high hopes.

It's hard for me to have a negative opinion about the book when I had such a fun br with Ami though...I have no regrets.

My main issue with the book, was that unlike her other stories it just kind of failed to draw me in and hold my attention. I think Ami and I held at 8% for like three days. Instead of being a book I couldn't wait to get back to, I was actually procrastinating reading it. I was goofing off on Pinterest, making pumpkin bread, going on walks...you know what I mean.

So, Skylar right off the bat was kind of an unlikable heroine to me. She wasn't a bad person, just not a character I especially wanted to read about. She just moved back to her hometown after kind of making a fool out of herself on a reality show called "Ride a horse, save a cowboy". Some people in her hometown were annoyed by how she came across in this show and didn't treat her the same. You aren't going to believe this, but they dethroned her from her legacy of being a cherry queen.

"It was the one thing I had, the one great acheivement of my life, my mantle picture! And now it's gone and I have nothing! My life is a complete mess and I'm a total failure at everything I do!"

See what I mean??

Unfortunately, Sebastian's character didn't work for me either. I actually kind of wonder if this book would have worked better for me without his POV. Sebastian has OCD, which causes him to not be able to control obsessive thoughts. The problem was, as a reader I didn't know this at first. I feel like his character should have been introduced and developed a little before we read things like this,

"Suddenly the disturbing image of skylar gasping for air, my hands around her neck, lodged in my brain, along with the question, What if I choked her?"

So, on the first page we were introduced to his character, we got these thoughts without understanding what was going on. And because I'm such a nice person, this just had me cracking up laughing. I know, that's awful, but I have to know a character before I can understand or empathize with them. I appreciate what she was trying to do, I just didn't personally find it to be believable. I also think there were too many references to him jerking off...again, maybe it would have been better to not even be in his head.

There were also a lot of typical cheesy lines. You know, she was dripping wet, lust zinging between her legs ect. This was my favorite quote,

"I'd been really good about taking my pill, but even so, in the back of my mind I wondered if any hormonal treatment would be strong enough to fend off his crazy smart, super ripped sperm. And holy shit, what would I do then?"

Finally, are Ami and I the only ones who are completely over the whole spanking, bondage thing? I feel like a lot of authors write that in whether it fits the story or the characters or not. It didn't fit here, and I am personally super sick of it. I can't even explain the eye rolling happening when I have to read that crap.

I'm still a fan, although I'm pretty sure I will never be able to talk Ami into another Melanie Harlow book br.

I think there is something so profound in the simple understanding of Today was a good day....
We all have had days where things just didn't go as planned... and then it was a slippery slope into awful...
But when Today was a good day, we really need to rejoice at the moment...we were fortunate; those days were valuable.

Melanie Harlow has a knack...a flair.
She understands comedic timing and uses it with a deft hand. What makes her even more special is her ability to combine humor with sensuality, sexuality, and real-life issues and concerns. Her characters are everyday people who happen to be in a moment of unexpected circumstances. They think things are going along as they should and then life smacks them up the side of their heads... giving them a reality check. For me, I have seen this in all of her books I have read by her... with increasing clarity. She has added more challenging conflicts and this book has been no different.

She gives us two characters who on the surface would not seem to be destined to fit...Skylar Nixon was the Beauty Queen, High School Popular Girl, and Hopeful New York Actress. Her place in her family was "the pretty one", alongside the "smart one and the entrepreneur". Her mother meant no harm but by classifying her girls for all to see, it left Skylar to wonder and doubt what talents she really had if she didn't make it in New York.

With things not going as she planned, Skylar decided to do a Reality TV show, Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy. When approached by the producers to act out in an extreme way during the production, Skylar took a moment to think... would this give me more screen time and get me finally where I need to be? Unfortunately, she thought yes...

What she didn't take into consideration was the dirty little secret of all Reality TV...

NONE OF IT IS REAL.

Once you sign on that dotted line, they pretty much own you. They took her voice, spliced it with conversations and words she never would have said, and presented all of it as if it was coming out of her mouth. Oh, there where other actions she did do... but once the show was packaged and aired... the damage was done. Skylar Nixon was not going to be the big-time actress she thought she was going to be... and the only thing for her to do was return to her family and hometown. She was lucky, for her sisters and parents were supportive but the town...now that was another thing...

With the shows now airing every week... each one more over the top and detrimental to her standing in the community, Skylar loses her new job at a Winery and then has her Cherry Queen crown taken away just like Vanessa Williams had from those mean Miss America people. She is retelling the horrors of her life and day to her sister in the coffee/bakery when one of the regulars sees her there. Skylar had seen him earlier while on the beach licking her wounds and trying to come up with a Plan B. They sort of crashed into each other and when she introduced herself to him, friendly like... his response was not in kind... it was hard and rough..." I know who you are" rough...Skylar, of course, thinks this too stems from that damn show...But no.... we will learn it comes from something else altogether...

Sebastian Pryce knew who this vision was in front of him at the beach... it was the vision of his teenage years and beyond... Skylar Nixon was in school with Sebastian and during the entire time they knew each other... she was always kind and nice to him. It was a big deal because Sebastian did not receive kind and nice during his life growing up... He lost his mother at the age of 8... and sometimes when these types of things happen... it triggers a switch in the mind, causing all sorts of behaviors...For Sebastian, it was his need for control, his need to make sure things would go right...And the only way that would happen was if he did certain things...he needed even numbers, he started repeating actions 8 times before he could move on...all of these things made him feel as if he was in control... but it also labeled him in school as crazy, weird and perfect to target for bullying.

But Skylar never treated him any differently... she would smile and say hi. She became his lab partner and he also helped her with math. He fell hard for her, dreaming of her ... but also berated himself for wanting her... as the same voices in his head which pushed him to repeat things 8 times also told him he wasn't deserving of a girl like Skylar.

So here are these two people; both caught up with what people are thinking about them, lost to the voices of doubt and insecurity, and surprisingly attracted to each other. Sebastian knows he needs to talk with Skylar and apologize for being harsh... but becomes too tongue-tied to do it. He runs away from her and knows he will have to figure out how to handle all of this. Skylar is a bit confused about Sebastian... but takes a moment to think about who he has grown into...this man. He has grown into his body, cut muscles from real work, and his eyes beautiful but seemed filled with sadness... Skylar feels a type of Kinship and decides she will reach out and become friends again...

There is so much to this book, to address it all would take away from your reading of it... I will share the romance of it all... Sebastian's heart is amazing... so full for Skylar... and She is strong and capable...she just needs to believe in herself. What is so smart in this writing is the open communication Sebastian and Skylar fight to have... it is there from the start with her sharing things which then cause Sebastian to try and open up more.

I started this review with the acknowledgment of recognizing the gift of good days in our lives. This book is all about this and more. We become so overwhelmed, I think, in all the outside pressures of work and other things that we don't stop and appreciate when a day happens and it was just right...No, you may not have won the lottery or been named the most recent Nobel Peace prize winner... but maybe you had a thoughtful conversation with someone you work with, touching them personally in some way...or they touched you. Or maybe your son or daughter looked up at you and mentioned the advice you gave them worked ...or maybe it was just that the sun hit the trees in the park and you saw this out of your window....taking your breath away and causing you to stop for a moment...feeling it was a beautiful sight.

In my mind, any one of those things would cause me to think
Today was a good day... and by my reading Some Sort of Happy, it was.
Thank you, Melanie Harlow.

Full Review for 1001 Dark Nights: Bundle Nine at Of Pens and Pages.

I read this a while back; long before I fell head over heels in love with the romance genre entered the wonderful world of book blogging. This novella is one of the reasons why Melanie Harlow has earned a spot in my one-click list. It had an effortless kind of humor, one that makes you laugh unintentionally (and intentionally), and oh my, Melanie Harlow knows how to write a sex scene; she pretty much perfected it. I loved Skylar and Sebastian’s relationship, and how vivid and accurate his OCD was portrayed. It wasn’t overdone and exaggerated the way it is sometimes portrayed. Although it bothered me a little how pushy Skylar was, she helped him get through it and his fears the way he helped her with hers. By the end of the novella, I was grinning so much, my face kind of hurts. The novella was mostly light, funny and hot, and if any of you are Frenched fans, there’s a guest appearance from a beloved couple.

3.5 - 4 ★'s

Skylar's life is going to hell...her portrayal of a villain on a reality show has had a domino effect on almost everything in life. For some peace and quiet, she goes to the beach and runs into a hot guy who she later realizes was the class oddball.

They met again...and this time actually talk to each other at her sister's coffee shop. They are drawn to each other and both want more but Sebastian is not your typical guy.

Sebastian has OCD and while he's had a good handle on it, Skylar kind of blows things out of the water. Coming out of a failed relationship, he swore he would be single but he's been crushing on Skylar for ten years and he can't turn away from her now.

description

I thought these two had some really steamy scenes. I really loved that Sebastian wasn't the only dirty talker! It was nice for the female to speak up for once!

But there's also a lot of frustrating scenes...as accommodating as Skylar is, Sebastian's rituals are a lot to learn and handle especially when he doesn't open up! I admire her tenacity and his as well.

It's not hard to figure out what the drama is going to be but I did like the way it was handled...and the time given to it.

I was pleasantly surprised that Mia and Lucas were in the book! I loved getting updates on what's going on with them...and how well things are.

I also really enjoyed one of Skylar's sister, Natalie. She was the one we got to know the best. I liked how she was always there for Skylar but more importantly, how she was there for Sebastian too!

The ending and epilogue are sweet but as always I was left wanting more. The only consolation is that we will get more in the next book which is Natalie's, Some Sort of Crazy, coming out November 17th, 2015.

A hero with OCD - interesting storyline. But don't ppl with OCD have fear to catch an STD? Coz the 1st time they had sex and he didn't have a condom the super smart heroine said she didn't care... Ok, well, apparently being on the pill protects also from HIV... Anyway, why a man, who didn't like to touch ppl and constantly washed his hands, didn't care too and had unprotected sex without even speaking about their health status?!

It's not that I disliked them, but her decision to be a part of a silly tv-show and play a nasty character didn't make her look bright in my eyes.

He was a sweet guy, but the hurt his ex, it wasn't nice, but since it 'pleased' the heroine 🙄

I skipped all sex-scenes (thanks to the bj scene in the car 🤐), which made the book much shorter 🤣

I have a distant memory I read this book a couple of years ago.

Today 2.5 stars max
Still clicked 3 out of respect for ppl, who deal with OCD.

Well, I finally lost my Melanie Harlow V-Card and I wouldn't change a thing!
Reviewing this week keeps getting put on the back burner for work (stupid work!) but in short, I loved this book and can't wait to read Natalie's story. Skylar and Sebastian were funny, charming and sexy as hell together. Sebastian's struggles with his OCD were realistically done, in my opinion, and the way Skylar handled that aspect of Sebastian made me love these two even more.

Rant time! Why the hell don't we have half star rating options again? I save my 5 star ratings for books I don't see myself living without in the future or ones that absolutely bowled me over, but this one came damn close to meeting those standards.

Skylar has just arrived back in town after a failed attempt at a reality dating show. Her life is falling apart and she feels like a failure. I immediately felt for Skylar, she felt real to me. Her life hasn’t gone according to plan and she feels like a failure when she compares her life to where she wanted things to be. This is a feeling I think most people can relate to and I immediately related to her.

Sebastian is also back in town and has his own baggage. Sebastian struggles with severe OCD and it has greatly affected his life. He struggles with so many mental issues, but my absolute favorite part is his openness and honesty with Skylar. They haven’t seen each other since high school. Then she was the popular beauty queen and he was the weird outsider. Now they are adults and have found some common ground, they both feel like failures.

Despite the serious issues and heaviness of the story it still had Melanie’s signature style. Once I got into the story it read fast and I really enjoyed watching things unfold. These two were absolutely perfect each other, on so many levels. Yes they complimented each other, but Skylar just knew how to handle Sebastian. I really enjoyed these two and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Some Sort of Happy has Melanie’s usual recipe of fun and sexy, but it’s really so much more too. I loved how Melanie delivered the story with fun and lightness without glossing over the mental health issue. If you are a fan of Melanie’s sweet, funny reads I highly recommend Some Sort of Happy.

5 "I want everything." Stars

I have a new author crush and it's Melanie Harlow. Some Sort of Happy was a really amazing read for me. Completely unexpected, I was enamored with Harlow's easy descriptive prose, her engaging plot, and this beautiful love story between two people so seemingly different they just fit together perfectly.

In the interest in preserving the plight of each character I'm not going in depth about either one but rather generalizing each and a blanket statement that I loved them both.

A beautiful and confident woman is Skylar Nixon. One that had stars in her eyes for as long as she could remember yet those stars didn't burn as bright as she once hoped. Back home she runs into an old classmate, Sebastian Pryce - our hero, and a whole new opportunity for discovery comes alive from the pages. Sebastian and Skylar, both quirky in their own rights, have a connection so visceral it jumps from the pages. A tortured hero in a really unique way, Sebastian possesses all the right qualities in being star "book boyfriend" material. And Skylar makes it easy to be a heroine we can fall in love with - strong in her convictions with a lot of love to give. In understanding each other and supporting each other the reader witnesses an honestly real relationship in which we see one of them coping with a certain way of life and the other learning to deal and cope with that as well.

The angst of the story is really low key making it more comedic than dramatic but it's always present, creeping along the pages reminding the reader of the depth in each character and the measures they're willing to go in order to protect and save the other.

Some Sort of Happy is really sweet, often funny, and just a chance at love neither Skylar nor Sebastian was expecting. Told from both characters points of view, Harlow gives us a birds eye view into the minds of each making their connection to the reader that much stronger. Secondary characters provide a great deal of comic relief and strengthen the bonds of the hero and heroine.

From what I understand, the continuation of the Happy Crazy Love series will focus on two new main characters but we'll see the continuing forever's of the characters in previous books. Next up is Skylar's sister, Natalie. I'm so impressed with the writing of Melanie Harlow and the excellent story she told in Some Sort of Happy that I can't wait for this next installment. And in the meantime I'll be reading her Frenched series. Lovers of romantic comedy type contemporary romances, please don't miss this one.

This is Book 1 in the series HAPPY CRAZY LOVE.

This book was recommended to me by my dear friend
Gökçe and I want to thank her for it because I went in blind, not knowing what it was about and the fact that it was about a man with a mental disorder came as a surprise. It was a different experience and it definitely is a book worth reading although I had minor problems with it.

Let me tell you that if you like your heroes perfect, this book is not for you, because he has a major flaw: OCD. But of course, other than that, he is still perfect :)

Being a sufferer of a milder OCD, I know what it feels like and how hard it is to fight with it. That is why, I ached for the hero: Sebastian.

The writer really has done a good job about portraying him. The things he does, his reactions, his rituals and therapy sessions were all realistic.

At the end of the book, the writer tells that she loves someone with OCD and that is why, I think, it was easier for her to give this character a life.

My problem is that I didn’t like the heroine much. At first, she sounded like someone very shallow but later she acted wisely when Sebastian was having his moods. That was not convincing to me.

Skylar was the Cherry Queen of her town. After graduation, she went to New York and tried to be an actress. Other than playing an evil character (upon the requests of the producers) on a TV Reality Show, she hasn’t accomplished anything. And because of that show, she has lost the love and respect of the people in her town and even her title and crown is taken back.

She doesn’t know what to do with her life and one day, she meets Sebastian on the beach, who has also broken up his engagement with his fiancé in New York and come back to his town.

They were in the same class at school. He recognizes her immediately as she was his biggest crush but she doesn’t recognize him first. What she sees is a handsome hot man! So sighing and drooling immediately :)

Later, he tells her who he is and she does remember the sad boy who was mocked by other students as the “crazy boy”. She was always kind to him, though.

Whatever, she instantly falls for him and hard, as I said. Then, she tries to be there for him no matter what.

However, deciding to be with someone with OCD is a serious decision and I had a hard time taking Skylar seriously because of her stupidity and naivety, which also made me think that she was no good match for Sebastian as he needed a smarter and stronger person.

But somehow, after falling for Sebastian, Skylar magically started to act more and more wisely but I just couldn’t understand how that naive and shallow girl turned out to be so wise.

Oh sorry, there was one occasion she acted stupidly again:
She read in Sebastian’s journal the definition of a scene in which he chokes her to death and after reading this, a person with a little bit of intelligence would be cautious if not panic because he could be really dangerous, why not? But, she was, “I trust you, you won’t harm me” all the time… That was stupid IMO.

One more thing I didn’t like about the book was the fact that nearly half of the book consisted of sex scenes and she was “the pushy one”…

description

I felt that sex was more domineering than feelings most of the time. I am not against these scenes and I think the writer has put them to make the book lighter but it somehow didn’t feel right all the time.

I mean it was like this all along the book:

Something happens + they have sex
Something else happens + they have sex
Something else happens + they have sex
Something else happens + they have sex
Something else happens + they have sex
Something else happens + they have sex
….
After a certain point, I was yelling, “Oh enough already!”

Were they hot?
Some people whose reviews I read found them "hot" although I couldn't feel that way.

And I always felt that Skylar wanted him in her life because of good sex more than anything else.

However, I can still recommend the book if you suffer from OCD or anyone you love does. Or if you want to understand those people. Because it really gives a good insight to their inner world and you learn a lot about their demons.

“My mind is constantly ticking with doubts tick did I lock the door tick did I turn off the stove tick did I check the outlets tick did I step on a crack tick did I wash my hands enough times tick did I turn off the lights tick did I walk a straight line tick did I take the right number of steps tick did I turn off the television on an even channel tick did I close the book on an even page tick did I start the car on an even minute tick what if I didn’t what if I didn’t”

I have a mild case of OCD and once upon a time, I suffered from panic attacks for 3 years and I always fear that they will come back, they still haunt me. So I have an idea what a person’s life would be like if he/she suffers from it. That is why maybe, despite all its flaws, the book touched my heart and soul, making me cry every now and then.

I loved the hero, Sebastian. He is dear to my heart and will always be… Let me finish this review with his beautiful words:

"I think I’ve always loved you.”
Tears dripped, although I smiled too.
“Really? Always?”
“Yes. Because I can’t remember what it feels like not to love you. Not to ache for you. Not to yearn for you.”

P.S. At the end of the book the writer advises us to watch this video and I did. It is impressive... I recommend you to watch it too, it is only 3 minutes...

**** 4 Is good number STARS ****

ME ENCANTÓ ME ENCANTÓ ME ENCANTÓ!!!

This book was truly a work of beauty. It was open and honest, heartwarming and endearing, and heartbreakingly real. I couldn't help but fall in love with these characters and their story and become invested in their happily ever after.

As much as I came to enjoy Skylar and her charming inner monologues, Sebastian was the one who mattered the most to me. How could he not when I found pieces of me in him? I suffer from high anxiety due to some traumatic events in my past and there are times when my OCD gets a little hard to handle. But over recent years, through lots of therapy, I've gotten better. Never cured but manageable. So I could definitely relate to Sebastian. Ha, his number is 8 and mine is 6! Although OCD manifests itself in different ways for different people, I really enjoyed this glimpse into a realistic character trying to cope with it.

This story was about two people at the cusp of starting over. The buildup of their increasing connection was altogether adorable, engaging, and hot damn can this author write erotic scenes! Sebastian and Skylar were so hot together and their chemistry was further proof of how they were destined to be. Each interaction was another testament to how beautiful and believable they were.

I loved how Melanie Harlow wrote this story. It was uncomfortably accurate and incredibly sensitive. I loved Skylar's easy acceptance of each of Sebastian's "quirks". How she supported him , helped to guide him, and simply loved him unconditionally. In all honesty, I cheered each time Sebastian overcame each of his self-imposed obstacles and I know that it was all due to the way the author phrased each scene and painted each picture. I was satisfied with where this couple ended up, even if I can't help but want more.

Sometimes, a book comes along and takes you completely by surprise in all the best ways. That was this book for me. I was expecting a romantic comedy and while this book did have some funny moments, there was so much more. Sebastian was closed off in high school- the other kids thought he was weird because of some of his idiosyncrasies. He has anxiety and OCD. Skylar was the popular girl at school, the beauty queen that Sebastian could only ever fantasize about - knowing he didn't have a chance with her even though she was always nice to him. 10 years later and Skylar moves back to her hometown after a disastrous appearance on a reality show. Sebastian is still flawed but he and Skylar find a connection together that neither of them has ever experienced. This was super steamy but also an incredibly sweet romance. I loved both these characters so much and I really wanted to see them find their way together. I loved that neither of these characters were perfect but they were perfect together. There is so much I loved about this book and I can't wait to re-read it. I loved this book so much I'm placing it on my all-time favorites list!

I picked up Some Sort of Happy because I loved the third book in the series and also the Hero has OCD. Some Sort of Happy is a standalone and each book is about the sisters. This is Skylar and Sebastian’s story.

Skylar is the pretty sister. She isn’t successful and she’s coming back home after failing as an actress in New York. She is what I would say is at a crossroads. I was kind of indifferent to Skylar in the beginning because pretty mean girls do nothing for me, but she isn’t a mean girl. She is actually a very nice girl, a girl who made poor choices. You kind of feel sorry for her, but her sisters are there to cheer her up, which I loved.

Sebastian was a successful lawyer in New York but due to a break down and his break off from his fiancé Sebastian is back at home working for his dad and fixing up his cabin. Sebastian is the main star in this book because of all of his issues. He has OCD and it has taken over his life. I really loved Sebastian and I kind of wanted to experience more of his OCD behaviors. He doesn’t just have OCD, but he has unwanted thoughts and paranoia. Maybe we weren’t able to experience more of his behaviors because it would make the book more dramatic than light.

The chemistry between Skylar and Sebastian is really cute. Because he has had a crush on her since high school, but he’s so scared to talk to her. I really like this. I love the adorable shy guy and Sebastian plays the part. There’s a lot of struggle in the book because of Sebastian’s issues, but it adds a lot to the story.

Overall, it’s a nice read with an interesting storyline.

" Te amo. Mas de lo que he amado a nadie. "

BLOWN. AWAY. This is my first thought. UNEXPECTED. That is my second thought. And then, there's...OMFG THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER I JUST WANT TO HOLD AND HUG AND KISS SEBASTIAN 8 TIMES AND I NEVER WANT TO LET HIM GO. Phew. Those are just some of my thoughts. What it boils down to is this. Melanie Harlow can write. She writes her fucking ass off. And we all know this. But then, she delivers SSOH, and it's like WHERE DID THIS COME FROM?!?! Because what she gives us, is a story that ripped my heart out. It had me crying, smiling, laughing out loud, swooning. Oh yes people. SWOONING HARD. Stroking, rope, and car sex. OH MY!! I was shocked. And awed. By her MC, Sebastian Pryce. How Melanie can create such a character, has me floored. How she brings together the seriousness and matches it with the hotness. And add in Mel's signature humor. What you get is perfection. I'm not going to delve too much into the story. Because I don't want to rob you of the not knowing, in case you don't know. Because if I say one thing, it might give away another thing. But I will totally fangirl as to why I loved it!! Let's start with Sebastion. He's not your typical BBF. He's complex, misunderstood, and has some serious issues. My heart broke for him over and over. And he also made it pound hard. Not just for the way he loved and cared for Skylar. But for the man he was. His strength. His courage. His struggles. He's not an easy man to love. But the words and thoughts that poured out of him!! God!! Let me share a few of my favorites. I think I might of highlighted this whole damn book lol!
I loved her, and she loved me. Now it was my responsibility to keep her safe. keep her safe.
keep her safe.
keep her safe.
keep her safe.
keep her safe.
keep her safe.
keep her safe.
keep her safe.

And this:
“From the moment I saw you again, I knew you could undo me. I knew I should stay away from you, but I couldn’t. I can’t. The only thing I can do is make you mine.”

And good god this:
The knowledge of her body, of her mind, intoxicated me. I know what makes her come.

And this was my undoing:
I’ll die a little, but I’ll understand.

See what I mean!! One of Sebastian's sayings was "Two is better than one" this is something that stuck with me throughout the whole book. And even after.

So let's move on to Miss Skylar Nixon. When I think of Skylar, I laugh. She's this ball of energy. Who loves to talk and pry. Some might find this not appealing, but as Sebastian found it adorable, so did I. She's always been "the pretty one" out of her sisters. So after some life wake up calls, she's forced to come to terms about some things and has some growing up to do. She needs to make some life decisions. And who better to help her?? Why yes, Sebastian!! She is the perfect girl for him. She stands up to him and calls him out. She's not a quitter and she believes that he is worth the fight. She's so patient and understanding. God. They are perfect. They are what each other needs. He builds up her confidence when she needs it most. They help each other and they grow together.

And those are some of my thoughts. Now I will enter total fangirl mode. BUY. THIS. BOOK. Read it. Love it. Gush about it. Because I firmly believe that this is THAT book. The book people are going to be talking about. They are going to be shocked. This is different than anything Melanie has ever written. But yet it still holds true to all the great qualities that are of Ms. Harlow's writing. It's still filled with all those hot and amazing sexy times. It still has Melanie's LOL humor. It still has the great side characters that Mel is known for creating. The ones that leave you wanting to know more and hope they get a story too. She has stepped out of her comfort box and took risks. And has given us a heartbreaking, beautiful, and powerful love story. A story that will stay with me probably for a lifetime. And that my friends, is why this is one of the best books I've ever had the honor of reading. Thank you Mel, for taking a risk and for bringing Sebastian and Skylar into our lives.

If you haven't 1-clicked this yet, trust me, do it now!

I don’t know how many times I’ve told you I love you
but I know that number is all wrong
because it isn’t enough
I’m beginning to think Melanie Harlow is a magician. How else did she manage to write a romantic comedy, weave in a mental health issue, and make it moving, sexy, and lighthearted as well?

Skylar and Sebastian are an unlikely pair. She’s a former beauty queen, failed aspiring actor, and vilified reality TV star. He was that weird kid in high school that everyone picked on. He’s still rather moody and socially awkward, but now he’s a lawyer – a super hot lawyer. Sebastian and Skylar were classmates in high school, and when they run into each other again in their hometown, Sebastian’s decade long crush is reignited. Skylar is attracted to Sebastian, even though he seems nervous and unapproachable. It quickly becomes clear that Sebastian’s odd behavior stems from more than just shyness.

 photo SSOHTeaser400px_zpsxnvhcyuc.jpg

I loved these two together. Skylar is unwavering in her devotion to Sebastian. Her love helps ease Sebastian’s constant battle between heart and head. His love, meanwhile, renews Skylar’s confidence and encourages her to pursue new dreams. There’s nothing fanciful about this couple, which makes them seem genuine. Their lives are simple and their fears are real. They’re funny and sexy; romantic and silly.

The subject of mood disorders is explored in a believable and sensitive way. Emotions are often expressed through poetry that is heartbreaking and beautiful.
Today when I touched you
I felt a familiar chill down my arms. I think it
came from the future (or the past?)
With your hand in mine I saw the
tragedy of us
unfold quite clearly

I have no choice but to
keep my distance
but your beauty is gravity
and terrestrial bodies will fall
It’s a thoughtful and uplifting tale, but don't wouldn’t worry about things getting too heavy. Melanie Harlow brings a great deal of humor, joy, and even steamy sexytimes to the story. Delightfully well done.

I love it!!!

Another good book by moss Harlow. I never know that OCD can affect someone else like Sebastian. Rendering them senseless. Unable to control the mind. I do not have experience with OCD, but i know how it feels ehen ur mind consumes you with negative energy and snuff up ur hope and dream. Ur mind becomes ur biggest enemy.

I am glad for Skylar to be the heroine of this story. She saves Sebastian from his own demon of OCD.

The story is very good develop. The characters develop very well to support the story.

This is a good read.

Well, I finally finished it! At no fault to the author, might I add, my life is just kind of crazy right now.

Sebastian... Such an intriguing character. I love reading stories like this and not only learning something new, but being able to experience his thoughts, fears, and see his tendencies helps to put a lot in perspective.

At times I found Skylar to be a tad annoying but it's always quite clear how good her and Sebastian are for each other.

I really liked this story, it's so different and out of the norm. A completely refreshing take on romance with anything but average characters to keep the readers interested.

And that epilogue!!! Oh my gosh! It's so cute. I'm usually not a fan of epilogues because I think sometimes the HEA comes across as too forced or 'perfect', but I love how Melanie handled this one. It makes sense for this couple and matches perfectly with the story, I loved it.

Be sure to check out Some Sort of Happy, the first in a 3 book series of standalones. I'll definitely be moving onto the next ones now! Each book focuses on a different Nixon sister, so you'll be sure to get your fix of this crazy, loving group. <3

OMG, I loved it! Smart, sexy, funny and oh-so romantic, this book surprised me with its depth and emotion. I could not put it down.

4.5 stars!

27 year old Skylar Nixon has returned to her home town after a failed attempt at an acting career. Her last-ditch effort at finding fame was a reality TV show in which she was cast as the villain, and the consequences of that have made her life hell. So she is pretty much at rock bottom – living with her parents, working at her sister’s coffee shop and trying to figure out what to do with the rest of her life. And then Sebastian Pryce walks into her life.

Sebastian went to high school with Skylar. He was the school misfit, ruled by compulsions and obsessive behaviour, he survived the scorn of his schoolmates by mostly keeping to himself, though he has fond memories of Skylar as his teenage crush. Well now Sebastian is all grown up, a lawyer and absolutely gorgeous. He has also returned to his home town wanting to start fresh after the loss of his job and the breakdown of a long term relationship. Sebastian struggles with OCD and anxiety and his life is very difficult, but he is working hard to find normality, and his therapist suggests that he uses talking to Skylar as a way to work towards overcoming his fears.

Sky is bowled over by grown-up Sebastian. She knows about his issues from their time together at high school and recognises that he still struggles, but she is drawn to the mysterious, deeply magnetic man. Their relationship begins as a tentative friendship that easily and naturally develops into something more. They are clearly attracted to each other but Sebastian is wary of dragging her into the difficulties of his life, but they talk honestly about everything, and amidst all of the flirting and heart-to-heart conversations, the sexual tension builds brilliantly until Sebastian is unable to hold back, and then it’s all on!

Oh holy God, this book is hot! It’s SO freaking hot! Sebastian and Sky are both dirty talkers, they both know what they want in the bedroom, and they hold nothing back from each other. The sex is hot, frequent and descriptive, and it reflects the freakish intensity between them, showing the depth of their attraction and their growing connection. But it’s just one side of their relationship which is full of laughs and sweet moments, and a beautifully developing love which easily swept me away.

“I loved the way he touched me, like he still couldn’t believe I was there and might disappear at any moment. I even loved that he looked at me with sadness in his eyes sometimes, because I knew it meant that he was struggling with things in his mind but letting his heart win.”

“From the moment I saw you again, I knew you could undo me. I knew I should stay away from you, but I couldn't. I can't. The only thing I can do is make you mine.”

But Sebastian’s demons have already destroyed his life once. When his life starts spiralling out of control again, will he be able to find his way back? And can he protect the woman he loves while doing it?

Skylar and Sebastian are both amazing characters, their individual journeys are beautifully explored, and their relationship is fun, passionate and deeply emotional. They have unique challenges to overcome, and they handle it openly and functionally, and I loved the strength that Sky showed in standing by her man. She doesn’t care about his issues, she loves him completely, and it was so gorgeous to see. And Sebastian is just amazing! Harlow wrote him in such a way that I could empathise with what he was going through, and I could feel his pain and frustration. I truly felt for him and my heart broke for all that he goes through. He wants nothing more than to be the man he believes Sky deserves, and his struggle to get there was beautifully written.

“Skylar Nixon could be the one woman who was strong enough, sweet enough, forgiving enough to be with me. The thought was both terrifying and beautiful.”

This is SUCH a beautifully written story! Melanie Harlow does a wonderful job getting us to the heart of Sky and Sebastian, and I felt everything right along with them as they fall in love and fight for their happy ending. I really enjoyed the tie in to the Frenched series, and Mia and Lucas’s involvement in the story (love those two!), and there’s also a great introduction to Sky’s two sisters. I love the dynamic between the trio and I’m really looking forward to their books.

Melanie Harlow has done it again, this is a fantastic read and I absolutely loved it.

4.5 stars.

Some Sort of Happy by Melanie Harlow is a sweet, swoony, and passionate story about Skylar and Sebastian. It is light-hearted and adorable, as well as very hot and a little angsty. In fact, I found it irresistibly charming.

Skylar is 27, has recently moved back in with her parents, and is licking her wounds from a failed acting career. She is feeling the pressure to get her life together and wants to find success in something--anything, really. Skylar is having a very bad day when she runs into Sebastian. They went to high school together, but Skylar doesn’t remember him. He’s all grown up now, not the gawky teenager he used to be. They strike up a friendship that soon grows into more. However, something is holding Sebastian back from committing to a relationship with Skylar.

Seemingly polar opposites, Skylar is light and bubbly to Sebastian’s moody and brooding. He is sweet, but his demeanor can turn on a dime. Since the book is written in dual points-of-view, you get to see exactly what is going on in Sebastian’s head--and what we find there is so heartbreakingly sad. His thoughts aren’t always “normal” or based on fact. His fears are not justified. However, I felt that they were portrayed in an honest and well written manner.

I really enjoyed both the story and the characters in this book. Harlow keeps the writing light-hearted (most of the time), but still makes you feel the emotional highs and lows of Skylar and Sebastian’s relationship. I also like that both characters are strong, patient, and loving with one another. They grow so much through the book, both together as a couple and as individuals.

Some Sort of Happy is an endearing read with lots of passion and poignant moments. It hits just the right notes of funny, emotional, sweet, and heat. I am definitely a fan of Melanie Harlow, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more of this series.

(Some Sort of Happy is the first book in a series, but can be read as a standalone.)

"You have no idea what that's like for me -to just feel. It's heaven."

I finished this book feeling all sorts of Happy, as a matter of fact, perfectly happy. I loved it and I congratulate Melanie Harlow on an amazing book that told the story of two people who were lost but found each other and gave each other direction and enrichment when life was at the lowest. The note from the author at the end of the story was very heart warming and brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing that with us, Melanie.

It was very easy to connect with the characters from the very beginning and I could totally relate to both of them. Heart vs head. Sebastian Pryce is tormented here fighting a condition that has no cure and that has incapacitated his ability to live really. He has a good heart, a beautiful soul, a very handsome man who wants nothing but to live a "normal" life and fights till the end against this condition, knowing that he is the only person capable of making the changes. Skylar Nixon is 27 years old and has reached a point of no direction, frustration and disappointment with her life and more than anything with herself. She doubts herself more than anyone else does. And it is in this book that you read about their journey to find their "some sort of happy" which does not come easy.

Melanie Harlow gives us very unique moments as she usually does in the form of what their characters are thinking, I found myself laughing out loud, other times crying, and it the book is off the charts sexy. This is the first book in the Happy Crazy series and I can' t wait to read the next book, Some Sort of Crazy.

A constant battle between head and heart...A story of forgiveness, redemption, and hope.

Refreshing! Inspiring! Sensational! I couldn't take my eyes off of the pages. I was sucked in from page one and there was no turning back. The words grabbed hold of my heart and wouldn't let go. The writing style, the voice of the characters, the immediate emotional connection that developed, it was just an overall beautiful experience. Ms. Harlow's words left me with a huge smile on my face, one that I still have to this day. Most of you are familiar with this author giving us sexy romantic comedies. SOME SORT OF HAPPY is taken in a different direction, a wonderful and deep emotional direction that I appreciated so much. It had a realness to it that you can't deny and people will definitely be able to relate to it.

Skylar and Sebastian are characters that you will fall in love with. They are two VERY different people but together they bring light into each other's lives. Get ready for a beautiful, awe-inspiring, passionate romance.
