Fundamentals of Statistical Mechanics by BB Laud is a nice introductory book. It bridges the gap between highly mathematical works and the usual less rigorous formulations of the subject.

P.S : A chapter on basic concepts of probability has been included and it may prove useful for the beginners.

Never buy this book if you want to learn statistical mechanics. This book is rubbish in representing and developing any theory. You won't get a clear picture of statistical mechanics.

Instead, read book "Statistical Mechanics" by R. K. Pathria & Paul D. Beale.
