FULL REVIEW NOW POSTED

Note: I received an early copy from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

My Review:

Just when I think Christy Reece can’t surprise me again, she ups the ante and pulls out all the stops in going far beyond my expectations. In her latest romantic suspense, she brings two strong, determined and often very stubborn characters to the forefront in one of her best yet. From the very start, I was held hostage and became a prisoner to this highly captivating and emotional story of the terrors precipitated by sick and heinous criminals on their victims. There were times where I seriously wanted to scream and cry out for the injustices that were thrown at this couple from many sides. Just goes to show that Christy Reece remains at the top of the list when it comes to writing both admirable and loving heroines and heroes as well as the despicable and demented evildoers in unforgettable and mesmerizing storylines.

Sabrina Fox is a heroine who gives as good as she gets. Not only is she a highly trained fighting machine, she’s a beautiful and smart woman in love – the until death do us part and beyond kind of love. At first, Declan Steele made it a little difficult for me to attach myself to him – although a perfect specimen of manhood. He’s tough and cold and calculating, and many times downright rude and crude. Just when I thought I couldn’t or wouldn’t let him under my skin, he dug deep and his appeal on every level presented itself so worthy that I tumbled head first.

I applaud the author on her crafty and skillful manner in keeping the evil that lurks in plain sight yet so well-covered that you’re never completely sure whodunit until the enemy steps before you. I love the guessing while not knowing, the constant roadblocks, and the uncertainty Reece keeps her readers in.

With the new spinoff from the original Last Chance Rescue series, we join a new group of elite top secret operatives, along with some old friends, lead by the founder Noah McCall, who join forces to save victims while at the same time some of their own operative. The passions run high and the action is high octane. The romance is extraordinarily heart-wrenching and will no doubt attack your emotions in a very touching and realistic way.

I highly recommend one-clicking yourself into a copy of RUNNING ON EMPTY and reading this tale of intrigue, danger and passion.

So I feel like I have been waiting for this book forever. It is the absolute truth that Christy Reece's LCR series was the first series I ever downloaded on my e-reader. I have loved the LCR crew from their very beginning...the suspense, the action, the danger, the heat and passion...no better than the writings of Christy Reece!

So the LCR Elite is new...Declan Steele you say?

Well hell to the yea! I love a good hot alpha who can kick ass in the field amidst terrorists then find a deserted jungle floor to ravage his equally tough woman! Let me get my cool drink and settle in for this ride...

Well, if I am being honest this was not the case for Declan and his partner, wife, Sabrina Fox.

So much happens to really summarize without spoiling. So, in a nutshell, just know there is betrayal, loss, and suffering. Then there is second chances, mistrust, and truly broken lives. The story itself is really good. It was action packed and tense. It was amazingly suspenseful like everything LCR books possessed in the past. That being said...WHERE IS THE HEAT???

It was way over the 60% mark before that savage passion previous agents had came to light. Declan is a shell of a man...Sabrina just hoping that she can get some type of emotion from her previously loving husband. But wait...he gives really off the hook multiple orgasms...that counts for something right?

Honestly, I felt bad for Sabrina. This girl was tough, determined, all around completely likeable.

She may have been a trained killer but she had a heart of gold. She deserved so much more than the occasional flicker of want/need/compassion that Declan provided. I felt at any given time he could have walked away...probably would have been for the best!

Of course this author would never leave you hanging like that! So yes...definitely worth the time spent reading. Definitely enjoyable...just not my fave LCR couple. I will say that this paves the way for more LCR Elite...I for one cant wait for Aidan tale...and perhaps the young Riley too!

The first book in the LCR Elite series by Christie Reece. When Sabrina Fox witnesses her husband's death, she is devastated. Imagine her surprise when she is kidnapped by her dead husband and accused of being the reason he was imprisoned and tortured. Who was the real person who betrayed Declan Steele? And can this doomed marriage survive somehow?

I like the style the Christie Reece writes and the mostly likable characters and the always exciting pace she keeps her work at. Looking forward to more in this series.

The blurb for this sounded so much better than what we got. To start off, Declan is one of the most unlikable characters I’ve ever read. I hated him from beginning to end. He didn’t deserve Sabrina, he was selfish, hurtful, viciously mean, and difficult to sympathize for. He refused to listen to reason from anybody, insulted anyone who tried to help him, and repeatedly shut down any chance of starting over with his wife who never stopped loving him and forgave him every single time for all the shit he threw at her. He was unworthy of her and her forgiveness, both before and after his captivity.

Which then brings me to Sabrina, what an idiot. She is one of of the dumbest heroines I’ve ever read in a book. Every single time Declan rejected her and told her straight up they don’t have a marriage anymore, he wants a divorce and her out of his life after everything is over, he doesn’t love her anymore and every other hurtful way he could break her heart, she still didn’t give up on him. She was still trying to change his mind, no matter what he did, how cruel he was to her, she just kept going back for more. Yes, she was so high and mighty in being mad for the moment and then the next she’s saying I forgive you and being caring to him again, if not that then she’s doing the opposite and telling him she’ll never forgive him for something but then the next day is letting it go and being nice to him as if it never happened. Nothing affected her and made her stand her ground and say no more. She had NO BACKBONE, no pride, no self-respect in herself. He beat her down every day in every way possible and she still wanted him, still stayed around him, still loved him, still believed in him, still followed him around like a sad, abused , lost puppy who didn’t know anything different from how their owner kept hurting them.

This is one of the most disgusting, unhealthy, relationships ever. Why would someone think that this man is capable of loving someone with how he treated her throughout the whole book? The only time he opened up his eyes was when he thought there was a possibility that she’d be killed, has that not happened, he wouldn’t have gotten his act together. He’d still be pushing and pulling her away as he was the whole book. He said he was sorry and immediately he was forgiven, didn’t have to work for any forgiveness, didn’t have to do anything to prove that he deserved another chance with her after all the crap he put her through. It was always her doing the work, even in the end, she was still the one who reached out to try to give their marriage a second chance. They were both stupid and made me despise them for different reasons.

So far, this author’s works have not been to my liking at all and it’s for the same reason in every book I’ve read of hers. One character gives everything to the other and never gives up on them while the other will take and take and take but never offer to give anything in return. They’re not equal, one person gives everything and the other gives nothing. This is something I can’t compromise on, they both need to put in effort into the relationship, a relationship is about two people, not one, and one is not more important than the other. This is something that the author needs to rectify if she wants readers to connect with and care for both characters. If you’re going to make a character, in this case a guy, a jerk for the beginning, half, or as in this story, almost the whole book, that’s not a problem. But at least, redeem him in the end, make him work for forgiveness with not only words but actions to back it up, give us a grand gesture that shows he’s sorry for how he treated her and how much she means to him, show us that he learned from his mistakes and why he deserves her and a second chance, give us SOMETHING that shows he’s fighting for her the way she did for him. Not once did I see Declan fight for Sabrina until the end where his hand was forced, it was always her fighting for him and that’s not something I can admire.

Another letdown and I’m already dreading reading the final book of this series as I’ve read them out of order, disliked them all, and it’s the only one I haven’t read yet. Hoping I can at least stomach that one without having to go through the same frustration and anger the rest of this series brought upon me.

Where to start…Christy Reece is an auto-buy author for me. Her romantic suspense is some of the best I’ve read. I know when I pick up one of her books; I’m going to get a despicable villain and a great couple!

I absolutely loved Running on Empty; it’s full of action, suspense, and romance. I love reunion stories. We get a glimpse of Sabrina and Declan’s happiness in the beginning and how it is brought to a devastating end. I got emotional several times throughout this story as Declan struggles with whether or believe Sabrina’s declarations of innocence or not.

Sabrina became a favorite of mine with her strength and belief in the love she and Declan shared, especially when Declan made believing in that love difficult.

The villain was a huge surprise! I love when I can’t guess who the bad guy its. When you learn about the torture Declan endured, you can see how bad this villain is.

Another great thing about Running on Empty is we get to catch up with some of the LCR gang. I can’t wait to see what is in store next for the LCR Elite crew.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Oh...Christy Reece you have DONE IT AGAIN! RUNNING ON EMPTY is a mix of action, suspense and such emotion, I swear, when I finished I felt like I had been through the ringer. You are sucked in from page one to the love between Declan and Sabrina, which is then ripped away and months later, they come together again, but instead of the love you might expect, there is anger and betrayal. From there, you better buckle up, cause Reece will take you on a bumpy ride, as the couple searches for the person responsible for Declan's kidnapping and the belief that Sabrina was the one who betrayed him, and maybe just finding their way back to one another.

Hands down, one of Reece's best!

For those readers who have not yet ventured into the world of the Last Chance Rescue team, well, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? No, you don't have to read the first nine books in the series to follow along with the Elite Team, but Christy Reece is one of the top Romance Suspense authors, with characters that you come to care so much about, and some of the nastiest villains I have EVER read...the series is WELL worth the time and money to read.

It was really kind of a weird reading experience. The characters were very two dimensional, there was absolutely nothing engaging about the story telling... I did finish this book, but I honestly wouldn't risk any others from this author.
I'm just saying one thing: I would never believe a trained assassin/secret agent/superhero/etc female would let a man walk right over her like that. You husband hurts you, insults you, despises you, but all you do is cry a little and keep coddling him? I don't think so.
I was kind of hoping for SOMETHING 'til the very end. Just for the author to give me anything to like this book for, to like the characters for, just anything that would save it. But no. I got nothing.

He was taken, tortured both physically and mentally and by the time he escaped he believed that the one person he loved had betrayed him.
She had survived hell growing up and became a strong warrior woman but died a million deaths when the man she loved was killed right before her eyes.
Yep, that's how this book starts but it takes you for an emotional ride all the way through! Great characters and a roller coaster of a story!
Thanks Christy Reece for introducing me to your new series!

Love conquers betrayal.

Sabrina Fox survived a childhood from hell, got rescued from a mental hospital for the criminally insane and was trained in the EDJE...Eagle Defense Justice Enforcers, as a killer against terrorists.
Declan Steele trained her, fell in love and secretly married her. But seeing every kill take a little more of her soul he pushed her to leave.
LCR is a Last Chance Rescue agency led by Noah McCall. They have little or no contact with authorities but covertly get the job done. Sabrina Fox is one of his best operatives and becomes one of his elite when he moves HQ to Virginia and her husband is killed.
This is a fast paced, action packed romantic suspense with a kick ass heroine. There's lies, deceit and whole twists of betrayal. A hard storyline of pain, suffering, torture, abuse and violence. Child trafficking, but not detailed. A few well written sex scenes but very little bad language. Overall some interesting characters for future books. I got stuck in and was thoroughly immersed in the no nonsense storyline. However, I was frustrated at times with the male leads demeanor/character. His 'hot and cold' got a little old and maddening. And the 'Who? What? and Why?' took its time to develop. Overall though, a very good read, would recommend. 3.5*.

I love love love this book. The first thought that rushed into my mind while reading this was, why the hell did I put off reading this book for so long?

I have always enjoyed a good romantic suspense that keeps me on my toes. This is so damn good. The prologue hooked me right away, (I never skip prologue because to me they always hold something that makes sense later into a story). I knew something bad is going to happen and when it did, I was really holding my breath to read how this was going to play out.

Declan Steele and Sabrina Fox are undercover agents for a secret government agency. The couple's marriage is a secret known only to a few. On their last night together, Declan tells her that he plan's to leave the agency and start new. But after two months, Sabrina witness her husband blown to bits and pieces on her way to meet him.

Sabrina continues on her missions with a bleeding heart, throwing herself into work as it was the only thing that keeps her growing. But after a successful mission, she's taken. She's locked and bound in a dusty cell. Her captor's voice oddly feels familiar and it's even shocker to see it was her dead husband.

The rest of the book answers what really happened to Declan and why he's back with a vengeance to kill his once beloved wife. I enjoyed the roller coaster ride and many parts of it made me so emotional. I was literally scratching my head to figure, who the real villain is and 50% figured it out toward the end. But it was still a surprise.

Christy Reece is my new favorite author and I'm definitely devouring her other books in the series. The writing style blew my mind away and a few times I stopped to re-read a sentence because it was so good. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good action packed romance.

Spoiler Alert: The book has a happy ending.

Fabulous start to the series.. I still remember how I felt when I read Rescue Me – the first in the Last Chance series – and this was just as powerful. One of the biggest things I love is that Noah is running the new group. Cannot get enough of that man : )

There were plenty of new and old characters in Running On Empty. We meet Sabrina Fox and Declan Steele after they are married. Declan works for another covert group that Sabrina used to work for and Sabrina now works for LCR Elite. They had tons of history and what looked like a very strong bond/love for one another that nothing could tear apart. Well fate had something else in store for the two when Declan is presumed dead after an explosion.

I love the women that Ms Reece writes – they may not always come from a good background/childhood but they grow into strong kick-ass women. Sabrina stayed strong through it all even after her husband came back with wanting nothing but revenge against her for thinking she was a traitor and had him tortured for months. Poor Declan (I love his name BTW) mind was messed with so much during his torture/interrogations that even though he didn’t break his mind did end up believing the lies they told him. It was painful to watch Sabrina and Delcan together when he first returned because you knew of the love they had before it was ripped from them.

Even though these books are fiction, the emotions, partnerships and situations always feel so real. Its like an adventure reading one of Ms Reece’s books. I am so happy she started this new series and look forward to many books to come in the series.

Betrayal and love

This couple has been through it. Deception, love, betrayal, love lost, love found, action, intrigue, you name it this story has it. The story is fast paced and full of moments that are sweet, sad, funny, snarky and vicious. I thought the character development of the main and secondary characters was rich and vivid. I thought uncle al was great. After Al, Riley was my next favorite character because I am interested in the back story that was alluded to through out the story. I found it to be a great blend of suspense, action and romance. I was able to figure out who the person that betrayed Declan was a little bit before half way though the story. Even having my suspicions though I enjoyed the overall story and how it was told.

Sabrina had the patience of a saint. Declan suffered the unthinkable. He was beaten, starved and tortured for over a year, believing that the single person he loved and trusted was responsible. He might be hot, but he was also occasionally an ass! I understood his reasoning and why he was so angry. Additionally, I cannot imagine the physical and inner strength Declan must have had in order to survive. But once it became clear that Sabrina was innocent, I wanted a different reaction out of that man.

Sabrina was a really strong character. She suffered greatly when she thought Declan was killed. I loved how determined she was to prove to Declan her innocence and how she never gave up on him even when he did. It was easy to see that they truly loved each other, and I enjoyed watching Declan realize how important Sabrina still was to him.

There were some twists I didn’t see coming and I enjoyed trying to guess who was responsible. This was the first book I’ve read by this author, but it will not be my last. I plan on going back and reading some of the other books surrounding the other characters in this one.

When I started reading “Running on Empty,” I didn’t know what to expect as Reece’s current book is my first exposure to her writing. This book is the tenth book in the “Last Chance Rescue” series. The suspense, intrigue, and mystery will captivate the reader from the very first paragraph. I found the story line well-developed and Reece provides all the history of the organization “Last Chance Rescue” and its founder, Noah McCall.

Reece introduces her two protagonists, Sabrina Fox, an LCR Elite operative and Declan Steele, an Eagles Defense Justice Enforcers’ operative. The LCR Elite’s mission is to rescue victims from places all over the globe and the Eagles Defense Justice Enforcers’ mission is to deliver justice to evil antagonists throughout the world. Events affecting both Sabrina and Declan explode the lives of these two operatives and everyone around them. While both Sabrina and Declan are well trained and have years of experience, neither of them are prepared for the turn of events and the circumstances they find themselves. In the middle of all the thrilling adventures taking place, I found an ongoing love story between Sabrina and Declan. Sabrina and Declan face challenges to their faith in each other and their ability to trust those around them.

From the beginning evil forces are in play and Reece provides the suspense, mystery, and intrigue to keep readers guessing as to what will happen next. Reece is an extraordinary story teller, who is able to weave kidnapping, terrorism, betrayal, drugs, human trafficking, romance and love into a fast moving thriller pitting evil against good. Reece shows her ability to write a creative love story grasping the hearts of her readers. With each twist and turn she increases the intensity of events and circumstances. Reece’s readers experience strong emotions with the awareness that is evil lurking in plain sight, yet so well camouflaged her readers are unaware of who the enemy is and how to stop them. “Running on Empty” is a spine tingling, breath taking story attacking emotion in a realistic way.

Christy Reece delivers a well written story full of surprises whose characters constantly finding roadblocks and keeps her readers unaware of who is behind all the betrayal and uncertainty. With Reece making unpredictable direction changes she keeps the reader on the edge of their seats and they will not be able to guess the ending until Reece is ready for them to know. I recommend “Running on Empty” and Christy Reece has earned my 5 star

Running on Empty by Christy Reece is the first book in the LCR Elite series. It is the story of Sabrina Fox, an LCR operative who rescue people when the officials have run out of options and leads. Her husband, Declan Steele, is an operative with The Agency. Their marriage is a secret to everyone expect their respective bosses. Tragedy strikes and Sabrina witnesses Declan die before her eyes. Fast forward to 11 months later and Declan is discovered in an Africa prison and has suffered physically and mentally from extensive torture and abuse. He believes in one thing that Sabrina betrayed him, and he is out for revenge. When they are reunited, Sabrina tries to explain that she had nothing to do with his capture and thought he was died. Although the attraction is still there, Declan keeps Sabrina at arm’s length, determined to find out who is behind this elaborate scheme. Will they discover who betrayed him? Will they be able to come together again?
Running on Empty was a very tedious book to read. It started out great and suddenly it wasn’t. It was bogged down with the various rescue missions and the main plotline, the find out who was behind Declan’s capture and torture, was sort of forgotten until the end. The reveal behind the culprit was dragged on and on until the final reveal was anticlimactic. Reading it was like enough already, get to the point! One of the minor characters had a name that sounded familiar. I don’t know if it was unintentional on the author’s part or if it was a shout out to a favorite show, but I laughed when I read it. Overall, the plot was unbelievable. The characters were unlikeable. I do not recommend Running on Empty.

First of all I have to be honest and say how much I love Christy Reece. She is one of the very few authors where every book has been a 5* read for me. I love Romantic Suspense and the grittier the better.

I have been looking forward to this new LCR spin off and it didn't disappoint. Declan and Sabrina were perfect for each other, and as usual nothing was held back with regards to the dark side of the story and neither were exempt from pain. I think for me, that's part of what works so well. All the characters have been brutalised in some way and all have over come and come through. They aren't perfect. They often times aren't nice, but they are always characters that you will fall in love with and want to back them 100%.

I'm not going to go into the plot, other than it's LCR on steroids and if you love the original series, you will love this even more. This was the perfect start to LCR Elite. (And yes, Cole and Noah both make appearances). I will say that I can't wait to see more of Riley (there is so a story there) and Justin as well as Aiden.

***AMAZING***!!!! Anyone that follows my reviews, knows I'm a huge Christy Reece fan. I LOVE her LCR series! Running on Empty is a new LCR series. LCR Elite is going to be outstanding. I devoured Running On Empty in hours. It is my favorite book Christy has written and that is a very hard thing for her to do. I've loved so many, but this one takes the title. Declan by nature is sweet, caring, brave, and strong. BUT when he thinks he is betrayed by the woman he loves he changes into a vengeful, cold man. Sabrina is loyal, strong, and has a huge heart that Declan owns. It was so much fun to read their story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to read. It is definitely a book that will consume you until the last page has been read.

Felt a little too similar to one of the LCR stories I must have read, to the point where I actually flipped the pages and wondered at the deja vu that I kept having. Still, an interesting start to the new series, although I would have preferred to have read the beginnings of Sabrina and Declan (that's merely reconstructed in bits and pieces) more than the actual story, which sagged painfully in the middle. I did appreciate the tension between other characters though (the strange Justin/Riley vibe got to me) and for that, I'd continue down this road...for a little bit more.

Romantic Suspence

This is about a conspiracy to take down an elite special forces organisation.

The tortured are not only the ones delivered into enemy hands but those left at home to pick up the pieces. Worse when the dead arise & the one who lead you out of darkness with specialist training & compassion is detirmined to send you back.

I was on tenderhooks the whole way through as a once deeply in love couple battled conditioning and forces determined to break him.

3.5 Stars. Good, but too many characters and too much plot and story bits hashed over from the old LCR series. Despite being billed as a new series, this is really just a continuation of LCR. Reece has done better.
