I write about existential angst in steamy fantasy novels.

I'm a bookworm at heart and enjoy reading various genres from classics to pitch black (horror) romances. Which translates into: I have an a posteriori rating system that I use on Goodreads that's deeply personal and I rate based on category/genre/subgenre so a 5* rating for Philosophy does not equal a 5* rating for Fantasy in my book (pun intended?!)

As soon as I finished the last chapter of The Imminent Trials of Quietus, I dove straight into book two. I didn’t even blink! The ending of the first one left me wide-eyed and heart-pounding, so I was way too curious to wait. And boy, am I glad I jumped right in, because I finally got the answers I needed about that cliffhanger—and honestly, I was relieved with how things turned out.

Don’t worry, I’m not dropping any spoilers—your reading joy is safe with me. But what I can say is that the second volume surprised me in the best possible way. This time, Zad… oh, Zad! What a romantic soul he turned out to be! He completely won me over, no exaggeration. I already had a soft spot for him in book one, but now? He’s carved a permanent place under my skin ❤️.

Tia was still as likable as ever — strong and steady. I didn’t notice a big shift in her character, but maybe that’s on me. Honestly, Zad had me so enchanted, he might’ve distracted me from everything else. The chemistry between them? Absolutely delicious. Every tease, every back-and-forth had me grinning, giggling, and fully living in the moment. There wasn’t a single interaction that didn’t pull a reaction out of me. Pure euphoria! And yes, some scenes had me blushing big time, but in the best way. Everything was perfectly paced and beautifully written! ❤️

I was also happy to get a glimpse of Sam again, and I’m super intrigued by a new character who I just know is going to shake things up in the next book.

This volume brought a ton of new information and plot reveals, which did slow down the pace in places, but I get it. We needed time to digest and connect the dots. I did hit a few spots where I moved a little slower, trying to piece everything together, but even that had its charm.

All in all, this book gave me exactly what I needed. It pulled me in, made me laugh, gave me feels, and let me dream with my eyes wide open. And yes, I’ve annotated the heck out of it! 🙌 I’m waiting (impatiently!) for book three. This kind of anticipation is no joke!

Jumping into this right after the first book was great! 😍 It was much easier to get into the story this time, already having a grasp on the lore — plus, not having to wait for answers to all my questions from book one was a bonus. 👌

So many twists, grueling battles, intense scenes, and evolving relationships kept me hooked. 🐉🔥 I always love dragons in magical stories, and this one did not disappoint!
The emotional moments, the romance, and the high stakes made this an engaging sequel.

And that ending… it’ll have you itching for the next book!

Somewhere around 4-4.5 ⭐️’s — I enjoyed this one more than the first 🫶

When I started writing TITOQ, I had no idea it would turn into a trilogy, nor that I would be able to release this second instalment in only five months after The Imminent Trials of Quietus debuted.

This books answers a lot of questions while making way for new ones to arise. Tia's journey is a rollercoaster, like any life worth living is.

I'm so proud of being able to share this story with everyone and I hope you'll love it.

ARC review, GET READY FOR RELEASE DAY 4/15 🐉⚔️

Finished the first book and IMMEDIATELY jumped into this sequel. After Tia survives her trials she is met with a realization that shatters her reality and leaves her with so many questions. As the adventure continues, Tia learns more about who she is.

WOW, let me be the one to say that Tia & Zad’s chemistry has been kicked up several notches and the banter is soso good. Thankfully, we get more family lore for almost every character—that in itself creating space for this story to grow.

War is coming, and our characters are as ready as they can be with allies in tow. Will we get the regime change the realms surely need? Will the Gods awaken when we need them most?

There is a major cliffhanger at the end of this book that leaves us with so many questions, but I just know our girl Catalina is going to take care of us 🫡

⚠️ SPOILER WARNING ⚠️
First of all, thank you very much for the honor of receiving an Arc of this series.🤍

Second first of all, I hate you for the ending of the book!!! 😤How can you create such a cliffhanger without already publishing the next book?😤 It's not nice! 😭

I have to admit that I liked this volume even more than the previous one, something I didn't like (personally🙌🏻) was the marriage between Tia and Zad, but that's because I'm a fan of slow burn romance. 😅

I really liked the fact that in the final battle, the main characters weren't the ones who put an end to the King like it happens in any other book, but they fought alongside the soldiers and left the task to someone else. The fact that the two fought different battles in different locations is again something new, but realistic in my opinion, because in a war in reality they don't attack only in one place. 🤷🏻‍♀️

At times I was annoyed with Tia and the fact that she wasn't trying to form a connection with Vrutyl🙄, but then I put myself in her shoes and realized that she's been afraid of him her whole life 🤦🏻‍♀️and of course everything isn't going to change in 5 minutes. However, it's wonderful that he understands her and still tries and is there for her.🤍

The whole book I thought I misunderstood that Zaddy was hiding something and towards the end I was convinced that I read it wrong,😅 only to reach the end of the book and be hit by a plot twist around which my brain doesn't want to accept. 🤯

Something that was a little confusing, maybe just for me,🙌🏻 was the creation of Tiadola. That part wasn't very clear, but then again, maybe that's just me.

It doesn't seem fair to me that this series isn't as well known as many other famous books on tiktok, when this one could be in the top compared to some famous ones. 😭😭😍

Another really nice thing about the book was the new words I discovered, pompous, but in a good way.😏🤌🏻

I dove into this book the second I finished The Imminent Trials of Quietus, and Catalina Matei did not disappoint. This sequel had everything I was hoping for—dragons, magic, war, heartache, and that ever-complicated romance between Tiadola and Zadrohn. Honestly, it was a rollercoaster, and I loved every second of it.

From the very first chapter, the stakes felt higher. Tiadola is still reeling from the aftermath of the trials, and as the secrets start unraveling, I felt just as shaken as she was. I connected even more with her in this book—her fear, her fire, her quiet moments of doubt. She’s flawed and fierce, and watching her grow while navigating all the pressure of looming war was powerful.

Zadrohn? He’s even more swoon-worthy in this one. The way he supports Tia, pushes her to believe in herself, and still manages to hold onto his own secrets—I was constantly torn between hugging him and yelling at him. Their dynamic felt even more raw and real this time around.

The plot kept me fully hooked. There were so many twists I didn’t see coming, and several scenes had me holding my breath (and maybe a few where I yelled at the page). Catalina has a real talent for balancing intense action with emotional depth, and she gives every character—main and side alike—a sense of purpose. I’m officially obsessed with Samthi and lowkey hoping he gets his own book one day.

And the cliffhanger? Let’s just say I am not okay and I need book three yesterday.

If you’re into rich world-building, unique magic systems, dragons with personality, fated mates, and characters who will rip your heart out and piece it back together, this series should be at the top of your list.

I received an ARC of The Imminent Return of History in exchange for my honest review, and I’m so grateful I got to be part of this journey early.

📖 The Imminent Return of History (Vials of Fate #2)
✍️ Catalina Matei

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book, and wow—what a ride! After the jaw-dropping ending of book one, I was beyond relieved to dive straight into the next chapter of Tiadola and Zadrohn’s journey.

This installment delivers everything I hoped for and more. The world expands, the magic deepens, and the stakes skyrocket. If you’re craving:

🔥 A deeper dive into the lore and magical system
🐉 More dragons (with personalities you’ll adore!)
❤️ A romance that grows in trust, devotion, and intensity
⚔️ High-stakes battles with impossible odds
📖 Answers to lingering questions—plus shocking reveals you won’t see coming

Then The Imminent Return of History is for you.

Let’s talk about Vrutyl and his partner, Okoll! Their presence adds so much richness to the world, and Myvva completely stole my heart. Can I get a pet dragon, please?

I do have some questions about new characters added to the mix in this book. I'm not sure if I trust their intentions. I'm waiting to see what happens with them in book 3 and if my instincts are off!

As for our main duo—Zadrohn’s unwavering support for Tiadola is everything. The way he sees her for who she truly is and constantly reinforces her strength? Absolutely swoon-worthy.

This book is fast-paced, emotionally gripping, and filled with twists that will leave you desperate for the next one. And yes, there’s another ending that will have you screaming. Catalina Matei knows how to keep readers on edge!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️️ A fantastic sequel that builds beautifully on the first book. If you love intricate world-building, powerful character arcs, and a romance that hits deep, don’t miss this series!

Masterful writing. I love how the story developed from book one.

We get to learn even more about the characters we fell in love with the first book and we meet even more lovable characters. It was really great to see more of Samthi and have his history develop. It was also awesome to spend more time with the dragons and meet Vrutyl’s partner.

Tia and Zad get more and more of adorable together. Their love gets stronger with every challenge, their connection grows deeper and the banter between them is delicious.

With war looming , our characters to step up to the plate and fight for themselves and their realm. As with the first book, the author takes us on an emotional adventure that makes one think deeply about life, love, loss and it also leads to complicated questions about free wheel, agency, and where the true responsibility lies when things crumble in the world. Again, it is very interesting. How the true villain of the story is almost removed and in the background, as we realize that the ones we thought were the villain were themselves just victims.

I am so excited for the next book in the series. I am so curious to see where the story will go. I would actually like to see a book for Samthi.

I have received an ARC of this book and and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.

This was the perfect follow up to book 1 and I loved it just as much, if not more!

There was so much going on, from Tia coming to terms with the events of the trials and getting to grips with her new found powers, so many secrets being revealed, a war looming just around the corner, Tia and Zad's bond growing stronger, and even more of the dragons!

I don't want to go into too much detail and risk spoilers but if you liked the first book, you'll absolutely love this one.
And if you're on the fence about the series, I would definitely recommend giving it a try, its so worth it!

The world building is fantastic throughout both books so far, the magic system is very unique and the romance and spice is *chefs kiss*.

The side characters are all fantastic as well and each have their own clear personalies and purposes. I absolutely adore Samthi and honestly I'd LOVE a spin off book that focuses on him, his story has such great potential and I'd love the chance to really explore his character in more depth (I'm sure we'll be getting more of him in book 3 though, much to my excitement!)

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read the eARC, I'm so grateful to have found this series!

BOOK REVIEW: Vials of the Fate II - The Imminent Return of History

Without Spoilers!! You need to experience this book yourself!!

This book was amazing! A great sequel to the first book Vials of the Fate I - The Imminent Trials of Quietus.

I found myself unable to put the book down. The story was interesting and mysterious with a new twist in every chapter.

The story is well written, informative and well organised. There is never a moment where you are unsure of what is going on.

The characters Tia, Zad and Vrutyl have so much mystery surrounding them which keeps you in suspense. Myvva also adds a touch of fun and innocence to the story.

I love that the incorporation of ‘family’ is so intertwined into this book, and it refers to family that isn’t just blood relatives but all different types of family.

The concept of magic and fantasy within the book is so different, which sets the book apart from other fantasies.

It is unique ❤️

Catalina has done an amazing job showing her talent and skill for writing.

The cliffhanger at the end of this book had me on the edge of my seat and I cannot wait to see what adventures await in book number 3 📚🐉👩‍❤️‍👨

I got the pleasure to recieve this ARC's. :3
The Imminent Return of History is everything I hoped a sequel would be — and more.

Catalina Matei takes the foundation laid in The Imminent Trials of Quietus and builds it into something richer, darker, and more expansive. The lore grows wider, the stakes sharper, and the emotional pull deeper.

Tiadola’s arc is beautifully layered — she’s powerful yet vulnerable, stubborn yet searching, and watching her grow while confronting both inner shadows and outer threats kept me hooked. Zadrohn’s character gets more nuance here too, and the chemistry between them isn’t just romantic heat; it’s about trust, loss, and the terrifying risk of being seen.

The pacing balances quieter, emotional moments with tense battles and political intrigue, making it nearly impossible to put down. And the world-building? Absolutely magnetic — new secrets, new history, and dragons woven seamlessly into the story’s pulse.

Yes, it ends on a cliffhanger (brace yourself), and yes, there are threads that remain unresolved. But that’s what makes me desperate for the next book — this series is building toward something big, and I can feel it.

If you like your fantasy with dragons, high stakes, hidden truths, messy romance, and found family, this series deserves your attention. :3

The Imminent Return of History was a strong follow-up, meeting most of my expectations after the first book. The themes of war, power, and free will felt even richer this time, and I liked how Catalina Matei raised the stakes while keeping the emotional connection between Tiadola and Zadrohn. Their relationship was a significant part of what made the story work for me, and I appreciated how their bond was challenged in ways that felt genuine and moving. The tension, both in the battles and in the characters’ personal struggles, kept me interested from start to finish.

That said, I did feel like the pacing dipped in a few places, and some sections could’ve been tightened to keep the momentum flowing. Still, I loved how the world-building expanded, showing more of the political and magical layers without becoming overwhelming. By the end, I was invested not only in the outcome of the war but also in the personal choices Tiadola had to face, which hit harder.

It’s intense, emotional, and sets the stage for what promises to be an even bigger finale, and I’m glad I stuck with the series.

I was so ready to dive into The Imminent Return of History right after finishing the first book, and wow, it totally delivered! It gave me everything I wanted and more. We got a deeper look at the world, the magic, and the crazy war coming our way.

We meet some awesome new characters, and our fav side character, Samthi, made a comeback! His character development was amazing, and I’m seriously excited to see where his story goes next.

Tia just keeps getting better. After everything she went through in book one, she has her moments of doubt, but she never lets them hold her back. Her strength and resilience make her feel so real, and I’m all in on her journey. And Tia and Zad? I’m totally obsessed with them!

And let’s not forget that CLIFFHANGER?!... Are you kidding me?! I need the next book, like, yesterday!

Lucent's thunder! This book was good. Read it, just read it!

This book is the definition of a second book in a trilogy. We get clarification, character development for the main characters and the side kicks, more dragons 🐉 and plot twists.

If i thought I loved Zad in the first book, I was in for a treat let me tell you. The way my feet were kicking whenever he opended his mouth🥵

Tia, on the other hand, I want to shake her a little because what do you mean you're not ready for a flight? Take off girl and burn the world down! but also, she's really badass and deserves the world for how much she puts up with those gods

Now if I may be excused, I will go stare at the wall, because this book ends on a cliffhanger and my mind is spiralling with what could possibly happen next

I jumped straight into book two almost before finishing the last page of book one – and I don’t regret it. The main character really grew on me, with a perfect mix of anxiety, determination, and stubbornness.

We’re treated to even more of the good stuff: dragons (yep, three heads – no need to be modest 🐉), war, magic, fated mates, and a deeper look into both side characters and romantic interests. There are also more perspectives, including the male protagonist’s, which adds great depth to the story.

And then we get to the ending… I guess “torture” might be a strong word, but seriously – that cliffhanger? It was uncomfortably precise in its cruelty. So now I just have to wait. Great.

All in all, a really solid sequel ⚔️🖤

I dove straight into this book as soon as I’d finished the first book in the vials of fate series and loved this one even more! We got to learn so much more about Tia and Zad, their past and everything that makes them who they are now. Their relationship is just adorable, and spicier than the first book(😉) - the trials might be over for Tia but the battles continue and on a much bigger scale. I love the main characters sense of justice, fighting for marginalised groups and against abuse of power - almost all the side characters have these traits too, and play a bigger part in this story. And the ending?! I expected the scenes in the run up to the end - but NOT that ending!!! The final installement in the trilogy is up next and I CANNOT wait!

Is It Worth Reading?

Absolutely! This is the kind of book that completely immerses you in another world, makes you grow attached to its characters, and lingers in your mind long after you’ve finished it.

If you love rich fantasy stories with complex characters and an atmosphere that stays with you, then this book is for you. It has magic, love, mystery, and—most importantly—heart.

I can’t wait for the next volume, and I’m sure Tiadola and Zadrohn still have much more to tell!

Literally gripped from the prologue! Catalina was just dropping bomb after bomb right at the start there! So many things fell into place and made sense and added so much to the story!

I am obsessed with Zad and Tia! The mirror souls aspect is absolutely gorgeous and I feel like everyone needs one!

The way it ended on a cliffhanger again 🙈 can't wait to read the final book!

Zad is as steadfast as ever and i really like getting his POV in this book. the story moves along at a great pace as our main characters fight for peace and what’s right. it ended on a cliffhanger and i’m dying to know what happens next.

A good continuation of the story

This was a solid book 2 in this series. It expanded on our knowledge of the world but still left a lot of questions. The cliffhanger was confusing so I'm definitely interested in seeing where this story goes! The ending was a tad rushed but I'm hoping it will come together in the next book. Overall I really like these characters.

Spoiler, if you haven't read book one ... Get ready for a plot twist - our fav Halwen is a Made!!!

The start of book two was strong, revealing what happened in the cliffhanger of book one. Then it morphed into a typical book two of a
trilogy, building more storyline and filling in background pieces of info from the first book. We saw Tia and Zads relationship take the next level, and her trust in Vru slowly started to build. The pace of this book was medium, with the action packed into the last 10% again. For some reason, this book didn't keep me as hooked quite like the first book. I was really hoping to learn more about the dragons this round (I want info on Myv), but the development of Sam's and Lira's characters was fantastic!

The ending packs a punch with a cliffhanger again, so be prepared! I can't wait to see what comes in the next installment.

So for starters I received this as an arc and by the time I was able to get to it i didn’t realize it was book two. That being said after about the first chapter it was easy to jump into the world of this book and get hooked. Lots of ups and downs multiple povs but kick butt FMC and I love me a good kick butt FMC. Plenty of action adventure, magic, and mysteries. Found family which is another thing I love. I enjoyed this book if your into dragons and mental communication as well as the strong FMC this is definitely a book for you!

Fantasy readers, might I introduce you to a new series that will have you on the edge of your seat? The Imminent Return of History is the second book in the Vials of Fate series and it was a dang good sequel! It picks up right after the first book and shows the aftermath of the trials.

The intensity is revved up in this book as the tides shift in the King's favor and war seems inevitable. I loved the intensity of the storyline as Tia and Zad prepare for battle, the chemistry and tension between them was so good. The actual battles and the locations had me hooked, the descriptions and how badass the characters were.

I wish that the bit about Tia's origin was explained a bit better. She's an interesting character and I can't wait to read the third book for the secrets to be unveiled. Speaking of secrets, the cliffhanger?!?! Tsk tsk tsk. I need book 3 ASAP!... Please

*Huge thanks to Catalina for the ARC!

Tropes:
Found Family
Friends to Lovers
Talking dragons
Dual POV
Unique magic system

I really enjoyed this book. Book 2 had alot better pacing than book 1 and alot more going on with the plot (in a good way). I really enjoyed getting to see alot more of Samthi and myvva (my favorites) and the rest of the side characters.  The plot twists made sense without being overly obvious. We get alot more information on the magic and alot more world building in book 2 that I really loved. Im excited to get to see a bit more of some newer side characters in book 3. The ending has me on the edge of my seat waiting for book 3.

This book, which takes place immediately after the cliffhanger of book one, packs so much action. If you haven't read the first book yet, please don't ruin the surprises by reading further. This series is so worth the journey.

First, I have to say, that I love the addition of the map and glossary of terms at the start of the book. It's beneficial, especially since there is a lot of lore and terms introduced in the series. Don't be intimidated by this, the world is immersive and once you get your footing it'll be well worth it. The creativity alone in creating the powers and the characters is so awesome to see.

The attraction between Zad and Tia, both physical and mental, is off the hook. I won't ruin the hot springs chapter for you, but boy was it hot. There is such a good balance between the two of them. There was a lot more connection building and I loved the fact that they want to protect one another, but also encourage each other to be their best selves. Though Zad keeping secrets, I wanted to slap him upside the head. He is the sweetest and adores Tia, and it was nice to see how he supports her as she navigates the emotions following the trials. Tia's journey is both heartbreaking and a sign of hope. She had a lot of character growth in this book and a lot of internal demons to overcome which was well done.

My favorite characters were back from book one, and I didn't see the twist with Sam coming. I also liked seeing more from the dragons in this book and their connection with both Tia and Zad. Each character has a unique voice and stays true to themselves in this second installment. The action-packed scenes that had me anxiously awaiting what happened next were balanced with sections with character building and spice. There were so many twists and plots to uncover, it made the story interesting and kept me on my toes. The addition of Yva and her brother was well done, even if I wish we got to see more of them. I think Yva especially will be a big part of the next book. Alott, Lira, and Flor are also characters I hope to keep seeing more of in the next book.

One thing I really kept thinking about while reading was how the book is a testament to free will and those who wish to take it from others. The loss is profound, and overcoming and learning from it is what makes the story so powerful. I highlighted so many stunning quotes throughout the book that will stay with me for a long time. I can't wait to see what comes next, especially after that ending!

If you like adventures, dragons, unique magic systems, fated mates, revenge plots, moderate spice, secrets, and a strong FMC then this book is for you.
