I'm actually really fond of this recipe book. For one, it was way ahead of its time in a few ways.
The opening pages of the book state that all of the hundreds of recipes contained therein underwent a series of trials to test their deliciousness and only those that did pass were included. There are also suggestions from the testers on how to store and what to make a specific dish for and what to have along with it. Captions are included just under the title, before you even bother, if you must make it ahead of time. They also have marked exceptional dishes for the reader. This book also includes history snippets from its county.
For two, it's gigantic and sturdy with good paper and a shiny hard cover. There are so many recipes included that I can imagine this being one of The Cookbooks to have. I do wish that there were spaces to put pictures and notes if you need them. Space is only included on some of the recipes.
Lastly, I think I should mention I have a thing for history preserved in food. There's a romantic aspect to the regional cookbooks because so many families put their best (or close to it) in the pages. These recipes fed a lot of people and I'm sure made a lot of happy memories.
Succinctly, however, this is a fine, albeit older, cookbook. I'll get back to this review after trying some of th recipes.
