The fight against the destruction of their base of operations continues, and, even though the base plot is not the most original and a tad over the top, it is well written with some cool fights and character developments. It is not often that you can at least empathize with at least some of the villains near the end, but then again, the author has always been good in their character (and world) design. Decent enough Henderson at the end which feeds into that empathy, and hearing how the author came to the idea of that group based on his own experiences as a GM in an old campaign made me smile. No drawn out fights this time, and while the info dumps and wordiness are still there, there have been worse offenders in this regard in the series. All in all, a solid addition to the series and a very entertaining read.
I was going to say this volume was incredible boring as I despise the drug war urban adventure plot, but the full Henderson story improved my mood. Thankfully, we seem to be moving on from this arc. So far this series has not delivered the level of adventure that I feel was promised. Also, replacing better early characters with Siegfried and Kaya has not helped. I was going to stop here but I’ll maintain my optimism a bit longer.
Great, as usual, very well written. I was immersed the entire time. Part of me hopes we return to more simple adventuring, but the depths of the conspiracy have got me hooked, and I do look forward to more!
