The third and most explosive installment of the groundbreaking True to the Game trilogy will take you on a marathon race through the mean streets of Philly. Starting off where the second installment's dramatic cliffhanger left us, True III will finally reveal Gena's mysterious stalker and savior, as well as introduce a new killer so vicious, so cunning, so ruthless, he'll have you looking over your shoulder with each turn of the page.
The crooked cops are searching for the money, Gena's family members are now the target for Gena who's hiding from everything and everyone, as the race is on for Gena's survival. Will she manage to keep the money, can she get out of town and make a new life for herself, and will her family survive the maniacal killer that is hell bent on tracking her down? Will Gena stay, True to the Game?
True to the Game by author and publisher Teri Woods has been undisputedly titled a classic. While working as a legal secretary for a law firm and juggling motherhood in Philadelphia, PA, Teri Woods completed her first novel, True to the Game. Teri Woods submitted her story over a period of six years to more than 20 different publishers, all of whom rejected her. When major publishing houses refused to embrace True to the Game she wasn’t discouraged. In 1998 instead of giving up, Teri Woods printed, bound, self-published and began selling hand to hand her first book True to the Game. . . . Her grassroots tactic paid off; Teri Woods became a self-made millionaire in just three years selling her novel, True to the Game. She landed a major motion picture deal for the book as well. With the release of True to the Game, Teri Woods has reinvigorated the urban fiction market and created a growing trend in publishing. --from the author's website
Reading this again for the second time. When Qua was killed I cried like a newborn just born into this world.Quadir is back!! If only he were a real man. Omg! I'm like Gena I would have been pissed about him faking his death. Gene ate, slept, drink and breathe Quadir! I was mad when he started falling for Amelia I mean I know she put her job on the line to save him but that's what she does for a living. Then there Jerrell crazy ass brother Terrell. I couldn't believe the things he was doing to try to find Gena. The police were ridiculous. Do I think they would go that far in real life? For 20 million in cash, yeah. Then I couldn't believe how Qua tried Gena about the money she loved him and would have done anything to be with him. And your boy Rik wow is all I could say tryin to kill Gena for some money. And another thing I was glad she lost that baby cause who Qua wasn't going to be back with and who wants to raise a demon child. I just love these books and the people in them! Will read this again!!!
Loved! if you can't stand the heat don't play with the 'BIG' boyz..well defined and developed characters..excellent writing..the saga all had to come to an end..recommend to all (paperback!)
oh SNAP! This book was the bomb! I cant believe how good this was! I was so into this book i truly was talking to myself in the gym over and over on the bicycle ! I couldnt believe the mind of Terri Woods its amazing! Book 3 was soo off the hook! I flipped through this book so fast there had to be smoke coming from my pages! He's back ! he who? look at the cover real close. So Gena is on the run and everybody is after her loot! The 17 million is driving folks crazy! They are plotting and planing on Gena. poor Gena all that dough and she cant be left alone to enjoy it! The police are back and they are driving themselves stupid trying to plot on getting that $$$$ from Gena so they can split it among themselves. There is a sick , twisted killer on the loose and peoples I have to say if you have a weak stomach be prepared for some intense sexual scenes of rape. As a reader it took me to a place i did not want to go. but besides that it gets rough but then it gets good i mean really this book takes you there and you will be very happy you read this great ending to a 3 series book!
This book had much more action than book two, but there were so many questions that needed answers... Did Rik & Red ever find out that Rasun was the snitch? How did Red feel about Rasun's death? Did Quadir go back to Amelia to have her stitch him up? His wounds weren't completely healed & after the fight with Terrell, he would need medical assistance. More importantly, how did Quadir explain to Gena about his daughter? Remember in books one & two, she had no clue he had a kid & now we just say "awww" & clap at the happy ending?! Spare me! And what's really ridiculous, is that EVERYBODY was at the wedding - the crackheads, the blabbermouth twins - EVERYBODY! Quadir is supposed to be on the lam because he's supposed to be dead, so why is Gena's entire family in attendance? Totally unrealistic and The Caribbean has extradition treaties with America, which includes the Bahamas. No way a real drug dealer on the lam will allow so many people to know he's living & breathing.
Following her near death experience in the hotel with Jerrell, Gena is whisked away by an unknown savior and nursed back to health. Now awake, Gena is ready to meet the person behind it all...
In the third installment, the "True to the Game" trilogy comes to an end and answers the one question readers want to know - Is Quadir alive? Defined by no substance, no story and no characterization, this novel is like watching paint dry. The few moments of action quickly dissipate. In large, "True to the Game III" focuses on explaining past situations and crooked cops in pain staking, drawn out detail. "True to the Game II" veered off in one direction and III veers in yet another direction, neither being consistent or interesting as the first book. I can't help but play on the title and say this book was not "true to the game." I expect that "True to the Game III" will divide readers into two groups: die hard fans who will hail the book despite all its obvious flaws; and those who want to grab the `author' and say, "ENOUGH ALREADY!" Count me in the second group.
I gave this 3 stars because the novel is just average. Woods relies heavily on police scenes (which he does in several of her novels) and I just did it so awkward and so unnecessary. This novel ends the story of Quadir & Gena - thankfully, I certainly could not handle another True to the Game book. Woods brings in way too many characters, the most aggravating being Jerrell's unknown-until-this-book-was-released twin Terrell who had a negative impact on Quadir's childhood. Woods' description of Terrell's "satisfaction" before and during the rapes of two female characters is quite absurd and really unbelievable. Moreover, Quadir's completely unrealistic "return" from his demise is so stupid. Amelia was a decent character and I believe Woods could have written a much better novel without the crooked cops and the FBI & Internal Affairs officers -- it was just way too much. If you're looking to get a quick interesting urban lit novel from Teri Woods I recommend "True to the Game Book 1" because the others are her failed attempts at re-writing a great street lit tale.
New York’s Best Selling Author, Terri Woods, has done it again in True to the Game 3. The story line was very a great follow up to her True to the Game series and I was pleased with how the story began and unfolded. Terri Woods takes what you think is the end, and crafts it as just the beginning of a wild ride.
Gena is being hunted by all of those who know that she has Quadir’s 20 million dollars. There are the Cops who want the money and they will do whatever it takes to get it... if only they can figure out where it is. Rik owes some big time bosses money and he knows that Gena is holding some cash since she offered to give him some. He can’t see why she wouldn’t give it to him if he asked her, especially because he doesn’t need a lot... that is until the cops figure out that he knows her so now they want him to ask Gena for all the money but Rik has other plans.
Two other mysterious persons are also looking for Gena—one wants the money and the other wants revenge for the killing of his little brother and he’ll stop at nothing to find her and quench his thirst for revenge.
Gena isn’t aware that there are people after her and the money until family members pop up hurt, and people she thought she knew show there true colors. But an unexpected visit from someone she thought was dead will help and guide her through the troubling times... or does he also want the money?
This book was filled with adventure and it was not your average run of the mill, drug selling book. I love to read mysteries, and this was definitely filled with whodunnit’s. Terri stayed on point and didn’t stray from the original plot of the story.
I bought True To The Game II and True To The Game III when they were first published back in 2008. I read True To The Game II but, I never got around to reading True To The Game III. Well, I finally listened to True To The Game III on audio and I hated it! I can't believe Teri Woods took a wonderful story line and messed it up so horribly in the third part! True To The Game II was wayyyyyy better and she should've wrapped the story up there! There was no need to have a third part. Part III wasn't even about Gena and Quadir. She focused more on crazy Terrell and the crooked cops than Gena and Quadir! And, why would she keep them apart for most of the book?! The reason everyone fell in love with True To The Game to begin with was because of the love story between Gena and Quadir! Having Quadir stay with Amelia after Gena finds out he's alive was a betrayal to your readers! There was absolutely nothing good about this book! It was a huge disappointment!
Better than the previous books, but I'm very annoyed with the development of this series.
I don't like Gena, she stoped mourning for Quadir the minute she found his money. I sure don't like Quadir, he made Gena go through hell thinking he was dead, didn't care if his mother made her homeless and forget about her the minute he got hot and bothered with the doctor. And simply came back to Gena's life and end up with her just get his money back.
I feel cheated. Rant is over.
So for me is very dificult to like a book that I don't like the main characters. IMO, I wasted my time.
Definitely not my proudest read. Probably one of my trashiest reads. I don’t mind reading the trashy books, from time to time, as long as the story intrigues me. This one had an interesting story. But the storytelling was pretty crappy. It was like taking a cold shower. It gets you clean, but it’s so uncomfortable and you just wanna hurry and get it over with. 🤣🤣 Anyway, books like this always make me wonder why I never tossed my hat into the book-writing ring. I know I can do better than this.
Okay what can I say? Quadir is a bitch for not telling Gena. Omg the way she had the crazy twin chasing after her. Attacking all of her family and her friend. It was brutal. I was not expecting that. I did however expect him to be moving on. Which I didn't like. I can't lie. It made me mad. Idc how cool Amelia was or whatever. Happy they got back together and married. Great way to close the book. Can't wait to watch the movie.

True to the Game part 3, was a great book and I enjoyed how the author, Teri Woods, went about writing it. True to the Game part 3, was written from a different point view of a character and it retraced the same exact steps from the last book, and then continued it from this characters point of view. I think the author succeeded in this task because everything made sense. If you read the previous book, True To The Game 2, there were a lot of cliffhangers that made you wonder: Who is that? Who is in the car following Gena? and so on. So this book, True to the Game 3, was revealing who these people are and how did it get to the ending of True to the Game 2. I liked reading True to the Game because of the reality of the book. It wasn't a fake plot and it didn't have characters that were very, "Hollywood". Having the setting of the book taking place in Harlem, New York and in Philadelphia around the 1990's gave me the opportunity to picture what was happening because I live in Philadelphia and I knew a lot about the streets, and certain locations that took place in this book. Now if you are a fan of one of the well known t.v shows, "The Wire", you'll also be a fan of True to the Game 3, not only does it have people dealing with every day struggles, like they also did in "The Wire", but both of "The Wire"and True to the Game 3, had there share of the cops p.o.v, which was also exciting in the book. I'd love to give a quote from somewhere in this book to prove what I am saying, but I don't want to give away anything that happens in True to The Game 3.
This third and final book of the series True To The Game was very good. Providing the fact that the 2nd book wasn’t all that great, this one certainly made up for it. This book filled in all the gaps that the second one had left. I personally feel like the 2nd book and this one could have certainly been one. The ending of the second book left me with many questions that the first few chapters on the 3rd one had answered. This entire thing was completely unbelievable, it was a one in a million years situation. Although the book didn’t seem to be true, it was interesting. It made me want to keep reading to see what else the author could possibly come up with the drag out the plot that had been set. This seems to have been a good tactic to keep me reading. This book was also interesting to read because it took place in the city that I live in, Philadelphia. It was enthusing to read the names of the streets in Philadelphia that I have been on; it was easy for me to visualize. Overall, this book was a very good read as well as the first one. The ending of the book caused a lot of confusion for me though, how did they explain to everyone else what had happened? Why did everything seem like it was so normal, when clearly it wasn’t? The last chapter down to the last sentence left me with many questions. But being as though this is the last book in the series, these questions must go unanswered.
Finally reaching the end of this trilogy is bittersweet. While I'm ecstatic to finally know the fate of Quadir and Gena's love, as well as have some unanswered questions that built up within the first two books answered..... I'm sad to be at the end.
The characters in this trilogy force you to invest in them from page one of book one. The entire series embodies everything that classics are made of, so it's kinda hard to say goodbye. I'm aware that all good things must come to an end BUT that doesn't make it any easier to leave this book and move on to the my next read in cue. Gena, Quadir, Rik, Jerrell, Gah Git, The Twins, Gary, Viola, and so on will always and forever be memories of a true street lit classic that feels just like the first time each and every time I've read it.
This series was truly great. But the way Qua came "back to life" was so unrealistic it reminded that I was definitely reading a fictional book. I felt like the storyline with police wasn't necessary and should've been replaced with the introductions of some of the new characters and the other characters' feelings (like reds and how he felt about his best friend being a snitch!) Overall, I enjoyed the series and was happy to see my girl Gena and my boy Quadir finally be happy again.
this book was crazy like how did Quadir come back to life. how did he hide that he was alive for that long. and then he killed people that was supposed to be his so called "brothers'. he save genas life. this book was a very good one. i would tell you to read this book if you like to be on the edge of your seat and love ation in your books
UPON BEING RESCUED BY QUADIR AND AWAKENING IN A BEAUTIFUL MANSION LISTENING TO THE LOVE OF HER LIFE COMMUNICATE WITH THE WOMAN HE WAS PLANNING TO LEAVE HER FOR AFTER HE GOT GENA TO TELL HIM WHERE SHE'S KEEPING HIS MONEY, GENA RISKED REINJURING HERSELF TO ESCAPE OUT A WINDOW OF AMELIA'S HOME. QUADIR SPENT TIME NOT EVEN TRYING TO CONVINCE GENA THAT HE STILL LOVED HER. HE SEEMED TO ONLY SPEAK TO GENA ABOUT WHERE DEM DOLLARS AT (RIP. GANSTA BOO...), WHICH IS WHAT PISSED ME OFF ABOUT QUADIR. QUADIR WAS PISSED THAT GENA MOVED ON, HAD GOTTEN PREGNANT (WHICH SHE MISCARRIED DURING THAT ATROCIOUS BEATING BY TERRELL) BY SOMEONE SHE DIDN'T KNOW WAS THE PERSON WHO HAD SHOT HIM:TERREL/JERREL. BUT, HE FAILED TO REALIZE THAT IT WASN'T GENA THAT NEEDED TO EXPLAIN TO HIM ANYTHING, SINCE SHE DIDN'T FAKE HER DEATH & PLAN TO RUN OFF WITH SOMEONE ELSE: QUADIR HAD! GENA WAS GRIEVING THE LOSS OF QUADIR & WAS ENCOURAGED TO MOVE ON AFTER MOURNING SOMEONE SHE NEVER THOUGHT SHE WOULD SEE AGAIN. QUADIR KNEW THAT HE WAS STILL ALIVE, SOMEONE WAS MOURNING HIS DEATH, YET HE STARTED SOMETHING UP WITH A WOMAN WHO WANTED TO KEEP HIM FOR HERSELF & ONLY RETURNED TO PHILLY TO RETRIEVE HIS MILLIONS FROM HIS SECRET APARTMENT & RETURN BACK TO AMELIA! THAT MADE HIM A STRAIGHT UP DOUCHE BAG! HE DIDN'T REALLY EXPLAIN TO GENA WHAY HE'D NEVER TOLD HER ABOUT HIS CHILD THAT HE'D KEPT SECRET FROM HER, DESPITE PROPOSING MARRIAGE TO HER IN BOOK 1. IN NEARLY EVERY CONVERSTION THAT HE HELD WITH GENA IT ALL CAME BACK TO HIS MILLIONS THAT HE HID FROM HER AND SHE HAD BUT REALIZED THAT QUADIR DIDN'T COME BACK TO COLLECT HER AND WHISK HER AWAY TO WHERE HE'D BEEN HIDING. THAT MFER CAME BACK FOR HIS MILLIONS AND WAS WILLING TO THROW UP THE DEUCES TO THE WOMAN WHO MOURNED HIS 'DEATH', ENDURED THE HUMILIATION OF HAVING HIS MOTHER KICK HER OUT OF THE HOUSE SHE'D DECORATED FOR A LIFE WITH QUADIR, ONLY TO RETURN BACK TO HER GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE IN THE PROJECTS, SO QUADIR COULD LIVE A LIFE WITH A DOCTOR WHO'D HID HIM FROM HIS LOVED ONES, FELL IN LOVE WITH UPON NURSING HIM BACK TO HEALTH. THIS WAS NOT THE QUAIDR THAT READERS KNEW AND ADORED FROM BOOK 1! UPON AMELIA KICKING HIM TO THE CURB TO PROTECT HER OWN HEARTBREAKING SOMEWHERE DOWN THE LINE & GENA GIVING UP WHAT WAS LEFT OF HIS MILLIONS ONLY THEN DID QUADIR FINALLY MARRY GENA WITH HER FAMILY AND HIS CHILD IN THE BEACH FRONT ISLAND WEDDING! I WAS NOT IN SUPPORT OF GENA TAKING QUADIR BACK AFTER ALL OF HIS LIES DECEIT SECRETS AND WILLFULNESS TO LEAVE HER FOR A WOMAN WHO KNEW VERY LITTLE ABOUT HIM! BUT THEN AGAIN, GENA WASN'T THE 'SHARPEST KNIFE IN THE DRAWER' & SEEMED LIKE SHE NEEDED SOMEONE TO POINT OUT TO HER THAT QUADIR NEVER REALLY TRULY LOVED HER FROM THE JUMP! NEEDLESS TO SAY, I DIN'T LIKE THIS BOOK 3 & FELT THAT TERI WOODS HAD MESSED UP QUADIR SO BADLY FROM BOOK 1'S VERSION THAT HE WASN'T ANYWHERE MINUTELY LIKABLE AS HE HAD ONCE BEEN!
I really want to give Black Urban Literature a chance, because there are so many stories that need to be told. Theres something about this series that attracts me but once I’m pulled in I’m looking for the nearest exit.
When True To The Game part 2 left on a major cliffhanger, I knew I had to listen to part 3 (I had the trilogy on Audible). Quadir back and alive shacked up with some other lady?Gena’s friends and family under attack again because Jerrell’s twin brother Terrell (really? The name choice tho) is trying to avenge his brother’s death? Its all intriguing, but getting to the story you had to get through some of the graphic gory parts. Teri woods spends too much time detailing rapes and gruesome deaths that could’ve been dedicated to her main characters growth. Gena is such wasted potential of a Heroine. It only took 3 books, and near the very end of prt 3 to realize that the money wasn’t worth the trauma. I was happy when she decided to abort that baby, but immediately sad when she was only motivated to do it so she could get Quadir back. Again stories like these are important and need to be told, and because the market for genres like this is so small I’m going to be hard on these books. But I’m not going to give up.

This is the third installment to the trilogy of True to the Game. Several years ago I read the first two books but I didn't discover there was a third book out until re-reading the series due to discover a movie had been made based on the first book. I was not a fan of this third installment, I felt it read too much like a soap opera to me. I did enjoy Quadir's relationship struggle with the two ladies but at the same time it was annoying to me as well. Reasons being the relationship with the doctor was extremely predictable. I didn't mind the ending because it does leave the story open for more, but then again I ask myself is there more to the Quadir and Gena saga. Or is it possible for the author to make a special edition version and rewrite what would've happened had Quadir's chose the other lady.
True to the Game Part III is the final chapter of Gena & Quadir’s story. After finding the fortune Qua left for her and Jerrell tried to kill her for in part II, Gena awakens to find out who her earthly savior was. In disbelief then hurt, she flees and more hell breaks loose. A madman out for revenge targets her family in hopes to draw Gena out of hiding while many others, including those sworn to protect and serve, target her for Quadir’s money. Being true to the game is what it’s all about. Some will stand, many will fall....who will remain true? This was a fast paced, gritty, raw & uncut read. The characters emotions and thoughts, along with the written scenarios were real. There were a few grammatical errors but they didn’t take away from the story. I would recommend this read to any lover of urban fiction.
Oh well I’m done. I’ve read books 1-3, seen movies of 1 and 2. I must say the move for book two was better than the book. That’s only because I didn’t want Gena with Jay and I definitely didn’t want her to be pregnant. I love the way the movie showed Gena as a Survivor. Not giving up after loosing (so she thought) Quadir. Doc was awesome, I have to give her her props. Not many women would give up someone they love for them to go reunite with and old love. NOW that’s love. To love someone so much that though you make them happy, you also know that they are in love with someone else as well. That’s a true sister. Jay and his twin were ruthless, both deserved to die. Very outstanding move on the FBI’s part. The way they agreed to let her go and do something with her life. Great read!!!
Wow, what a wild ride this book is! In this final installment of the "True to the Game" series,we quickly learn nothing is what it seems. Gena's in the hospital after a vicious attack and is trying to pick up the pieces of it all. She's not only recovering from the attack, but she's also pregnant, and trying to figure out where to go next in life. All seems to be going well for her until a tragic accident changes her plans. Can she make sense of it all? Can she save her baby? Will an unexpected surprise change everything? Read it and find out! A fun series to read!
This was overall a good read but the plot was all over the place we could've done without the cop's scenes honestly. Gena was just dumb idc spend all that money on nonsense she never took the time to know Jerrel just fell for him damn near instantly and I could've sworn in the first one, in the beginning, he asked her and Sahirah did they know Jerrell and she said oh yeah I know him like c'mon now I wish there were more details in depth read this book years ago read it again for a second time and I just don't see anything special about their love
Teri Woods definitely made a come back with this one. It’s crazy how money changes people. They say money is the root of all evil and in this book that showed. I never thought Rik would be the one to change up on her but I guess when your desperate you’ll do anything. Terrell was one sick and deranged man. Gena just couldn’t seem to catch a break. Overall I’m glad that Gena and Qua made it thru the struggle. Gena definitely deserved the happiness that she got in the end.
I literally was on edge reading this book. Quadir really had me pissed at him for faking his death and all the unanswered became answered. Gena became a little naive from the first book to now but she got it together. The worst that you think couldn't happen happened and then some ! i KNEW this was a good book when i went on that emotional rollercoaster with the characters and couldn't put the book down. Gena and Quadir will always be my Favorite.
This was one of the funniest, most ratchet, drama-filled book I’ve read this far. The animation in the audible is just outright hilarious! I can’t lie, there were moments where it was exhausting listening to some the trivial situations from all of the characters. With all of the things taking place in the story, the ending was cute and I enjoyed it.
The conclusion to this trilogy left me completely satisfied, yet still wanting more. An array of emotions will engage the readers thoughts and imagination at full throttle as it did in part 1. The novel was suspenseful in tying together every loose end that we could possibly think of. Simply amazing!
This book had some crazy plot twists going on.. it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat to see how it would all come together. There was an evil twin, corrupt cops, and mentions of rape and so much blood shed. Glad that Quadir and Gena for it together- I would have loved a little bit more about their relationship after weathering the storm.
