Not For Tourists Guide to Los Angeles features clear, easy-to-read maps and graphics, with coverage of areas such as Central LA, South Bay, the Valley, the East Side and Pasadena. This NFT Guide is perfect for residents who want to taek advantage of the wealth of local services and resources around them.
This book isn't really a "book," per se, so much as a guide (hence the title). It has some good suggestions, but, having checked it out from the library, I couldn't really take advantage of it. This would be a good book to keep handy near the phonebook or wherever you keep your going-out-to-dinner ideas. Yelp.com seems to be a little handier, unfortunately. Ultimately, a good way to briefly familiarize yourself with the city, but not the end-all-be-all of suggestion books. Also, it's not searchable.
Just purchased this. Moving to LA in May and although I'm from SoCal I haven't lived there since 2003 so I wanted to reacquaint myself a little. As the title says-this is a book for newcomers and residents, not visitors but is helpful. I would suggest buying it in tandem with "A Newcomers Guide to Los Angeles"-the newest edition.
Fun just reading it. Even better using it as a resource to find interesting little-known museums and sites of the city. My favorite was the Jurassic Technology Museum. First time I'd heard of it.
