I received this ARC from Booksirens and am happy to leave this review .
I was now familiar with the world and style of writing. This read went by very fast for me. There was so much going on all the time and I felt the time lines meshed very well. This was a great second in the series. I am excited the story does not end here. If you are not familiar with this authors works it's definitely worth getting your toes wet. I will be seeking out more of this author's work.

“Obsidian’s Command” starts off with a scathing review of Canadian prison systems, in the eyes of Lola Cabello. The anti-heroine from Book 1, "Crystal Moth Conspiracy", has done her time and is released into the world.

She makes her way across Canada to try and reveal the truth about the Crystal Moths, what they’re doing with the Ash drug, and why – all this while trying to stay hidden and get her Ash fix.

The whip-smart characters with real (and old) world problems are wonderfully written. Addiction, loss, revenge, and, yes, even a bit of hope, are themes in the book, shown through the rich, developing personalities throughout.

Familiars like Detective Iglesias, mysterious nymph Synarion, and the dastardly crime lord Mastema compliment the main Lola storyline (I also really like Scalebane, she’s a badass reptilian with a mission. Respect).

We get some new characters, my personal favourite being Disk, who becomes instrumental in the story without overpowering it. They’re also a huge nerd. More respect.

Coming back to Detective Iglesias - what he struggles with, powerlessness, corruption, and letting your child grow up, are very relatable. He’s the ultimate straight man in a world of urban fantasy old-world creatures, which is a great balance for this book.

Speaking of those old world beings, the way they describe humans and analyze them is akin to a David Attenborough special. They're described themselves as creatures, even though they are the humans.

An added interesting layer are the documentary-style interviews with the questionable CAMB TV station. It breaks up the book and is well thought out, and it was intriguing to see issues from an outsider's POV.

I would highly recommend reading the first book in the series, but this can be picked up and read as is. This is an engaging and surprising read that brought out some emotion in me – sadness, rage, laughter, and surprise. Many things happen that you would not expect. It seems like no one can trust even their closest allies.

This is an intricate, and mind-blowing book

This book is unique in my experience! Almost none of the characters like each other. But sometimes they have to work together, even though they don't see each other's point of view.

I just have read these two books by this author, and I'm going to read all the rest of them!

Konn never disappoints in his writing. It's like he has thought of every detail and loose thread, and then some. There is never a lose end somewhere that leaves questions.
He had me almost throwing my tablet this time. 10/10
