Somatic Therapy for Trauma: From Chaos to Connection by Adele Wilson is part of a series of healing books. Some for adults and some for kids, but all for holistic forms of healing. This particular iteration focuses on Somatic Therapy with an emphasis on healing trauma.
It took me a while to get through this because I was actively working through the suggestions within the book. It’s set to be a 30 day process, but it can be shortened or expanded depending on your own personal needs. There’s lots of “activities” and practices to do that can help anyone work through tough experiences from the past. It’s not too long and it is easy to follow due to the bite size chunks of information and tasks.
I don’t usually read these kinds of books, but I did enjoy it and learned more about this practice and I think it could definitely be beneficial to those who align with it. So try it out and see if it’s a good fit for your healing path, and if not, it’s all good because it’s your journey and no one else's.

A solid introduction to somatic therapy techniques. The first half of this book focuses on the science, theory, and definitions of somatic therapy and trauma. Written in layman’s terms, the information is easily digestible for readers of all backgrounds. The remainder of the book consists of short, daily exercises to be done over the course of a month. These techniques take no more than 15 minutes a day to complete and require no extra equipment or training. Beginning and ending assessments and daily journaling prompts are also included to help with determining progress. References and resources for further practice finish off the book. I found the exercises to be helpful to add to my toolbox for working through my CPTSD recovery.

This was a fabulous book that shows the connection between trauma as it affects the mind and body. It gave wonderful insight into how trauma can affect the stress levels, which in turn can raise cortisol levels. I hadn't thought about this before, but it makes so much sense. I loved the exercises that were included and how to manage and heal from trauma. It's a must-read for everyone. We all deal with experiences that shape us, and knowing how to work through them is so important. The author provides the tools and knowledge to help all who are working through trauma.
The author provides the background and exercises for the reader to work through all the different types of somatic exercises to try to improve their wellbeing. A month's worth of exercises to do and the free extras were also great.
