When sexy art thief Colette hands Interpol Agent Landon Malik a stolen diamond and claims she's in danger, he doesn’t believe her. But she has information Interpol wants, and when he’s forced to protect her, he takes her to the safest place he knows—Club Alibi.
~~~
Desperation has cat-burglar Colette Beaumont running to the only person who ever came close to catching her: Interpol Agent Landon Malik.
Seeing him again is a shock, because the chemistry between them hasn’t changed. But the cold way he looks at her has Colette worried she’s made a mistake.
She needs Interpol to not only protect her, but arrest the dangerous man currently hunting her. She doesn’t dare trust Landon with full truth of her situation, or show him the wounds her enemy already left on her body.
But keeping secrets might not be an option, when Interpol sends her and Landon to Club Alibi. The private BDSM club is a fortress, and staying there guarantees her safety. But as long as she’s there, she has to play by the club rules…
Landon Malik knows not to trust Colette, after all she’s a thief. He fell for her lies once, and his failure to catch her is the biggest frustration of his career. Her story about being in danger is a lie—a way to manipulate not just him, but all of Interpol.
When his boss sends him and Colette to Club Alibi, using the Interpol-run BDSM club as a safe house, Landon knows exactly how to get her to tell him the truth. He’ll become Colette’s Master.
Colette might be willing to submit her body to all the delicious, depraved things Landon wants to do to her, but no matter how much she might want to trust Landon with the truth, she doesn’t dare.
And that might be what gets her killed, because Colette’s enemy is closer to finding her than she thinks.
Lila can write a shopping list and I will devour it.
In this tale of renowned art thief and an Interpol agent, the two must work together to put human traffickers in jail and ensure that this thief is safe all the while getting refuge in a members only BDSM club.
Colette Beaumont has never been caught. Hypothetically speaking she steals art with the guise of appraising said piece of art.
When a job lands her in murky waters, she seeks the help of the agents of law, more specifically agent Landon Malik for protection, but she never expected that she would be sent to a BDSM club and not only that she would have to play the role of a submissive and play by the rules of this establishment.
But it really is not a hard game to play when every bone in her body screams for submission.
This book was everything I needed and it helped me come out of a slump. It was sizzling hot, hilarious and downright entertaining.
Colette is such a fantastic character. She is too smart, she can outwit anyone in the room and she is feisty. She is running from a job gone wrong and she has to trust Landon, an officer that she met during an hypothetical heist. But trusting in this line of job is not easy.
Landon has never gotten over the fact that Colette manipulated him and he was never able to catch her, so when she unceremoniously walks into the NCA office of the Interpol, he cannot stop wondering what her endgame is, so trusting her is also not in his books.
I cannot recommend this book enough and I will be anxiously waiting for the next book which features a side character in this book.
To Catch A Sub is a romantic suspense story. It’s also very steamy! Landon is a police detective and Colette is a thief. They met years earlier at a museum. She comes to Landon for protection from the Bratva. This story is written so well! I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Collette and Landon—The Thief and the Lawman
“To Catch a Sub” is a full length novel written by Lila Dubois and is book one in her new series called Club Alibi. Ms. Dubois has created a unique world for her characters, thief Collette and Interpol agent Landon, to inhabit. Who would’ve thought to hide a protected witness inside a BDSM club? Lila Dubois that’s who. I am a fan of Lila Dubois’ stories so I was looking forward to reading this one ever since she started letting her fans know through emails and social media of its ongoing creation. I can say without a doubt, this book is a definite winner. Collette and Landon are both great characters, their electrical connection sizzles off the pages. The setting, Club Alibi, is a tantalizing location for the characters to interact. This book and the main characters have many intriguing layers, it is a pleasure to peal them back to discover the layers underneath. The intimate relationship between Collette and Landon is smoking hot, super steamy, deeply passionate, and wickedly kinky. Landon is a dominant and a Club Alibi Master in residence, Collette is his perfect submissive. Their BDSM preferences match each other’s leading to satisfying, consensual encounters. The secondary characters add a lot to the plot. Andrei and Rolf, both Interpol agents and Club Alibi Masters in residence, add a lot of witty banter and support to the main characters. It is great to see the relationship between all of these characters evolve into a true friendship. And of course there is Damien, the psychopathically evil antagonist in the story and the reason Collette runs to Landon for help and protection. “To Catch a Sub” is a great start to a series of stories set in the same world. Lila Dubois has done a excellent job weaving a fast paced tale involving a gem and art thief, an honorable interpol agent, a safe house to beat all safe houses, interesting cohorts, the BDSM lifestyle, and an evil Bratva kingpin who sends a cold chill down the spine. Definitely recommended for fans of Lila Dubois and contemporary open door romances.
Landon Malik is an Interpol Agent, and a Dom in residence at Club Alibi, an inter-NCB initiative. He's been searching for the one that got away for years and never imagined she'd just walk into his office one day.
Colette Beaumont, is an expert appraiser and an infamous cat burglar that to date has never been caught in the act. She was raised to be the perfect thief, but she always has a reason behind each theft. She's sophisticated, savvy and a brilliant strategist.
Colette and Agent Malik met during his art theft investigation at the British Museum where she was an intern. He's known ever since then that she was the thief but he's never been able to prove it.
When Colette finds herself hunted by a mad man, she turns to the only person she trusts with her life, Landon. She pulls out all her skills to 'convince' his department to take her into protective custody but never imagined she'd end up in a BDSM club, serving as his submissive.
The energy between these two sizzles, even as they both circle around trusting each other. Both believing that a thief and Interpol agent have no future, but each decide to live in the moment even with the danger circling Colette.
While some events were predictable and others a surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed the journey between these two. Dubois' narrative pulls you into both of their minds and hearts, with erotic BDSM scenes and still delivers a suspenseful story.
One little niggly:
If you've been reading my reviews, you all know I really hate 'to stupid to live' moments in stories. This is the first time I've read one in one of Lila's stories. I couldn't believe the mistake Landon made. As an Interpol agent I just couldn't believe what I was reading and found myself wanting to scream at my Kindle. My brain could only accept that he was made stupid by all that was going on between him and Colette, but he and his fellow agents should have known better.
This story includes scenes that may be difficult for some readers due to violence, abuse and sexual practices, read at your own discretion.
Art thief, Collette Beaumont, seeks out Interpol Agent, Landon Malik, for protection from a crazed Bratva leader who wants her for himself. Beaumont and Malik have a history as well as an irresistible connection. Malik's supervisor sends Beaumont with him to hide out at an Interpol-owned BDSM club in London. As well as providing protection for Beaumont, Club Alibi allows the pair to explore their connection and develop a trust they'd been lacking after Beaumont 'played' then ghosted Malik years before.
The story itself is not half bad and Dubois' writing has matured well. However, it's a very long book (over 500 pages) and what spoiled it for me was not only the HUGE amount of over long sex scenes (easily half the book at least is just sex) but the extremely detailed dive into the thoughts & feelings of the main characters at every stage of every scene to the extent that reading became very tedious. Both characters come across as emotionally crippled and we are given constant blow-by-blow accounts of every single introspection and every single thought process as they interact so that it becomes mind-numbing to the point that I completely stopped caring about either character. It's a pity because it could have been a really good story and if you skip most of the sex and emotional scenes, then it is but if future books are going to continue in this vein then I don't think I'll bother.
A Thief? And an Interpol Agent? This Is Going To Be Fun!!
You never know how things will end up when opposites attract. However, when the couple is put together by Lila Dubois anything can happen, and it did.
When you have a “supposed” thief and an Interpol agent get ready for the fireworks. Especially when, or because of their prior history, there is no trust. At least from Landon Malik who is still smarting from his previous encounter with the woman he calls a “thief,” Colette Beaumont.
So, when Colette needs protection, she turns to the one man, she knows that can keep her safe. But Colette, true to form, is not telling Landon the whole truth and he knows it. To keep her safe, he takes her to Club Alibi where she will pose as Landon’s sub, the one place that Landon knows he can strip her down and get the truth. The truth is that someone is out to get her, and she knows that if he finds her that she might not be so lucky this time. Trust doesn’t come easy for either of them. However, Colette will have to decide to trust Landon and tell him the whole truth and hopefully Landon will believe her. Otherwise, Colette may not get to have the one thing she wants. Forever.
In true Lila Dubois fashion, she takes you through twists and turns guaranteed to keep you hooked from the beginning to the end. Please Note: She noted in the beginning of the book that it has trigger warnings and the pages that should be avoided if this applies to you.
What happens when a world renowned art thief and an Interpol agent try to work together to do good? Normally, it doesn't work out too well since opposite tendencies. Even when they both have a shared bit of mutual kink, you know that they won't always agree. But when the person writing this story is the very talented Lila DuBois, you know to expect the unexpected along with several twists and turns.
We do meet our lead characters Landon and Collette in a rather dramatic way and the drama just keeps happening between these two oppositional characters who have this magnetic pull towards each other.
Do not think that this novel is a fast read. It is a very long novel. And that is something I honestly loved about this book. The length gave plenty of time for character and plot development. And it means you need to block out a few evenings to read this. I do suggest that if you are in an area that is sweltering under the hot weather, park yourself in a shady spot with a nice breeze, a preferred cool drink and relax while you drop into this enticing alternate world.
Fair warning, if you are not into BDSM, this is not the book for you. BDSM is a consensual act between adults who practice in a safe manner.
Take one international art thief add in an Interpol agent, a long missing priceless diamond, a crazed Bratva leader, a shady investigator and an Interpol operated nightclub/BDSM club and you've the makings of To Catch a Sub. Lila Dubois freely admits she indulged her geeky love of artifacts, art history and unsolved mysteries in this book and we, her readers, get to be the happy recipients of her geekiness. You'll also get to met a couple of other players who I sincerely hope will get their own stories because I admit they piqued my interest.
Landon Malik and Colette Beaumont are stellar. They have a history. She played him then ghosted on him. He never stop searching for her for years. Now she's on his doorstep, seeking his protection. Does he arrest her or protect her? Truth be told Colette never got over Landon despite their brief encounter. He's the only person who's ever made her feel cared for and safe. Staying at Club Alibi gives them the venue to indulge in a D/s relationship and rebuild trust. Of, course you know it can't be all smooth sailing. When things go off the rails Malik takes drastic measures to bring the woman he loves back to safety.
This passion project by Lila Dubois is so beautifully detailed and well written that you can't help but fall for Landon & Colette in this first of what I hope will be many visits to Club Alibi.
Landon works for Interpol while Colette is a "hypothetical" thief in need of help. They have a brief history that had a big impact on both of them, and while both feel safe with one another, the question remains: Can they trust their feelings or each other? The tale that unfolds is suspenseful and dramatic, and one that keeps you hooked from start to finish.
I absolutely loved Colette's ability to tease and sass her way through most conversations but loved her vulnerability within Club Alibi that reveals the true Colette. Landon is harsh at times, but once he sheds his Agent Malik day job, you can't but help fall for him as Colette does.
There are also hints of possible future characters and I'll admit, I'm glad Andrei is next....so dark, mysterious and potentially dangerous 😉 Once again Lila Dubois has created a world full of suspense, drama, super sexy scenes and emotional rollercoasters I want to ride again and again. You will not regret buying this one ❤️
Well written, relatively few errors, steamy, sexy, funny, dramatic. Landon and Collette are a great match, both smitten, neither willing to admit it, and with almost perfect alignment of kinks. The villain is appropriately evil and terrifying. The supporting characters are interesting. And I liked the way Landon’s relationship with his fellow Interpol Doms changed from grudging toleration to friendship in the course of the book.
My biggest problem with this book was that Collette was simply unbelievable. So intelligent, so capable, so successful as a thief. I just don’t think any one human being could do everything she is supposed to have done, including supergluing a wound shut and carrying on unimpeded. And I find the idea of Interpol running a BDSM club pretty unlikely.
But those are minor quibbles. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, especially all the really hot BDSM steam (even when Landon said they were doing vanilla, it’s not what I would call vanilla). I look forward to more.
What a great start to a new series! I loved Collette and Landon, as well as a few additional characters in the book.
This wild ride had exactly what I’ve come to expect from Lila Dubois - a great storyline, witty banter, interesting and intriguing characters, steamy intimate scenes, mystery, and edge-of-my-seat terror.
I did find several chapters quite difficult to read, because of some absolutely horrible things a main character is forced to endure. There is a trigger warning regarding these chapters, but I read the book in its entirety, because I felt those chapters were essential to the story.
Overall, I enjoyed this story immensely. Lila DuBois is one of my favorite authors, so I just go along with the twists and turns she always puts me through. There’s a great set-up for the next book in the series, and I cannot wait to read that story, as well.
What an interesting premise - pairing together an art thief and an Interpol agent. On the surface it would seem that this would work, until you learn he is the only one she trusts to keep her safe from a very dangerous man. And while she gives them a carrot as incentive to protect her, she can't tell all as she won't implicate herself in any thefts.
I loved the mix of characters, well, except for her enemy and his minions. The story evokes a range of emotions from horror at what Colette had to endure to laugh out loud moments and everything in between. I can't wait for more in this series and getting to know the other main male characters.
Don't let the length of the book deter you from reading it. The storyline moved along, and I never felt like there were scenes thrown in just for filler.
4.25 stars. This long story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a dark, fast-paced, contemporary, BDSM, romantic suspense. I empathised with the concerns that Landon, the male interpol agent lead, and Colette, the female thief lead, felt around their conflicting positions. I appreciated Colette’s acknowledgment that Landon made her feel safe. I enjoyed the unravelling of their past and the building of a present together. I enjoyed the exploration of their intimate preferences and relationship, including the missteps. I enjoyed the engaged and essential secondary characters. The author’s trigger warning is 100% accurate and should be considered by those who need it. I adored Landon’s solution to the apparent conflict of their jobs and moral codes.
I cannot express with words how much the book sucked me in and refused to spit me out. The mixture of intrigue from the high stakes mystery, the delicious spice from the bdsm, and the pull on my heartstrings from the will-they-won’t-they romance was intoxicating. Landon and Colette were so genuine in their relationship, including all of the complicated feelings surrounding the circumstances of their meeting and the trust they had to establish quickly. I loved the third person POV that gave readers insight into both main characters’ inner thoughts during all scenes. I also am so glad that Lila Dubois honestly portrayed how difficult it can be to feel safe after trauma, but also how necessary it can be for those in the bdsm community to maintain their sexuality even if it needs to change after trauma. I can find nothing wrong with this book and I absolutely recommend it! 12/10
Talk about a page turner, this book will have you on the edge of your seat. Colette is an art thief who’s life is in danger and there’s no one to turn to other than Interpol Agent, Landon Malik. She reappears in his life after ghosting him years before. A crooked investigator, a missing diamond and more. Interpol puts them up in BDSM club, which was actually a safe house run by Interpol. Neither trusts the other, but their chemistry is off the charts. The characters are amazing and well-developed. The story line is engaging. Plan to lose a little sleep because once you start reading, you won’t be able to put it down. I read a free arc via the author and voluntarily chose to write a review.
Interpol Agent and the Thief - Brilliant!!
Opposites attract, and in this case set the world on fire. Colette Beaumont is clever, wicked smart, and even has a degree in fine gems. When she is not appraising, she hypothetically may be acquiring them. Agent Landon Malik meets Collete when she is an intern at the British Museum where she points out a hole in their security in a very public manner.
Later, needing protection, she is sequestered at Club Alibi. Things get quite up close and personal. The entire story is impeccable. Relationships, the art world, dangerous men, languages, plays on words, and so much cleverness will keep the reader entertained and on their toes. I loved it!
This was hella good. OK, it was also hella long, so expect that.
The sex is quite hot. The D/s action is REALLY hot. The chemistry between Landon and Colette is wonderful.
And, yeah, there was kidnapping. There were serious threats. There was betrayal and action and a dramatic rescue. And I definitely loved that to a significant extent, Colette participated in her own rescue -- and, damn she did. There were heists (or at least the planning of heists). And government agents.
Basically a great combination of D/s erotica and action/adventure. Yeah, it could have been pruned and made shorter and tighter, but this works. Honestly, I rather expected another round of threat that did not emerge.
Anyways, I am eagerly awaiting book 2.
This was a fun ride of a novel. There are several stand out characters, besides Landon and Collette; one of which I will look forward to reading more about in the next book. YAY! Anyway, there is intrigue, a bit of global travel, lots of hot smexy time and an HEA that is hard won. The chemistry and fun banter between the characters is so worth the read. It impresses me how much research is done to make the characters, and the story, more "real". Landon definitely has his hands full with Collette. She is the independent, sassy siren in this book and I loved her. I highly suggest this book (series).
Landon is an Interpol agent, and Collette is an international art thief who has a history. Landon has been looking for Collette ever since she ghosted him a few years back. When a Bravta leader sets his sights on Collette, she goes to Landon for protection. Landon and Collette hide out at an Interpol owned club, Club Alibi. Even though they have chemistry, there are trust issue. As they build on their BDSM relationship, there are forces out to get Collette no matter the cost. Quick warning: This is a very long book, but don't let that deter you. I throughly enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait for the next installment.
Landon and Colette's brief history left more of an impression than either of them expected - hurt and regret and unfinished business. Their story hooked me from the first page when she dropped that massive blue diamond right in front of Landon. It's clear from the beginning that Landon is torn between desire for Colette and his duty as an Interpol agent; and although Colette is an accomplished jewelry and art thief, when she's in serious danger, Landon is the only person she believes can keep her safe. The fact that she is a submissive and he is a Dom is a connection they can't fight, try as they might, although any future between a thief and and officer of the law would be impossible.
These characters have a ton of chemistry and the sexual tension between them is off the charts. Every interaction is electric. I couldn't put this book down especially the heart stopping, edge of your seat moments that come in the later part of the story. Simply riveting! To Catch a Sub is a an excellent read and a great start to the new series.
thief of the heart
What does a psycho bratva member, an alleged thief, and an Interpol agent have in common a wild adventure. When Colette an alleged thief runs for protection to the one man who made her almost want to give up her high end theft, Landon Malik is of course suspicious she fooled him once and even though theirs no trust there’s no denying their chemistry. Forced together in a secret club to protect her from the bratva, it’s not long before Landon and Colette are fighting their sizzling chemistry and realizing things aren’t always black and white. This story was a suspenseful, thrilling and spicy story that I couldn’t put down
Attraction at first sight. Obsession. So much chemistry. Opposites. Crazy baddie. I loved this emotional roller coaster of a tale as Colette and Landon work through their troubled past and a presumed doomed truce to catch some Russian baddies. It seemed the only lull to the storytelling was the kinky sexy times with each scene increasing their trust and love. Colette is so strong mentally and emotionally that even the psychotic monster who wants her can’t break her. And Landon will burn the world down for her. Don’t miss this exciting heart wrenching read.
Club Alibi. Would you dare visit? Well vicariously makes all the sense in the world and what a visit! PHEW!
Ms. Dubois always keeps me thoroughly engaged and well, a lot hot under the collar, not in anger but in steamy, perspiration causing, tinglingly moments!
This reminds me a bit of that movie "The Thomas Crown Affair!" Except the gender is reversed! And there is a villain wreaking havoc!
Should Landon arrest Colette?
Is she really in need of protection?
What a ride this was, and I really enjoyed the "learning" along the way!
Colette and Landon have a history that they must overcome for their HEA
"Warning" this is a loooong book, 500+ pages. Yet, it doesn't drag, nothing seemed like filler, the characters had to go through varies trials and tribulations to get to their HEA.
Loved the interchanges of Colette and others and Landon's solution to their HEA, so unique!
Please read the Author note, chapter 34 - 37 could be triggering for some.
Can't wait for Andrei's book next!!! Hopefully, Rolf will get a book too.
Lila's books are always on my list of favorites, I love her characters and the mischief they get up to. I have to admit that I had a hard time getting into this one -- Colette and Landon did not appeal to me immediately like characters usually do. But I persevered and am glad I did. Once I became invested, I did really care what happened to them and was not disappointed.
This book turned out to be a fun romp and I'm glad I didn't give up. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and encourage you to check it out -- you will not be disappointed.
This had a great mix of heat, suspense, intrigue, and scenes! The chemistry between these two starts out strong, and it only grows from there. Like crazily burgeons until it spills over to every aspect of their lives. But it isn’t all scenes and hotness, there is a wealth of emotions and tenderness there, always ready to spring forward when needed or warranted. These two took me on a wild story of personal mysteries to be uncovered, and a solution that gives them both what they desperately want, to be together forever <3
To Catch a Sub lived up to it's name. Landon had to chase Collette and figure out her actions several times. I have to say that I found Collette's stubborn nature a little frustrating at times but in the end you did find out why she acted as she did. The secondary characters of Andrei and Rolf will be interesting to follow in the next books. I also enjoyed Landn's family. I hope they show up in the future.I enjoyed the book and the twist to keep Collette happy at the end.
Loved this book. Colette is a thief who is seeking protection when she enters Interpol's office looking for Landon who she had a connection with years ago. She is clever and can twist everything to make you think her idea is yours and has never been charged. Landon is tasked with protecting her in Club Alibi and Colette with test his patience and attraction. This book is full of danger, unfilled emotions, trust issues and a happy ending.
It took a few chapters for me to get into this book. But when it finally grabbed my interest, I couldn't put it down. It begins with switching back and forth between the past and present relationship between Colette and Landon. They have a turbulent history as you would expect between a thief and an officer of the law. They also have undeniable chemistry. Colette needs protection, but needs to stay one step ahead of getting arrested. The d/s connection was secondary to a really good, engaging story.
