After robbing Indian banks of US $700 million, the Sandesar brothers seek asylum in Albania. On the other hand President of Albania colludes with Xi Wang, Chairman of the People's Republic of China, to win the next electionsand stay in power. The NSA is restless because everything is pointing to this beautiful Balkan country. It's time for NSA to drop their best abled men from SPG on Albania and find out Xi Wang's ulterior motives. Now it's upto Raj Pratap Rana, the rebellious of all to set sail and jeopardise the cruel machinery that is at play and once again save his country from an imminent doom.

'The Puppeteer' is the second book in 'The Panther's Ghosts' series chronicling the adventurous journey of Indian intelligence agencies especially the secretives of all. This book unlike the first book in the series creates a much convincing immersive world of bereaucrats and spies. I have read the first book as well and I must say I liked the second book more. This one is unputdownable with it's intricate narrative and engaging plotline spanning over different countries. I expected the characters to grow a bit and I found exactly that in the book. The character sketches are enjoyable, the bond they share is equally satisfying.

This is a delight for spy thriller lovers. Talking about the writing, it's engaging, I was hooked from the inception. The story builds slowly encompassing a suspenseful thrill. Although for some it might be a bit draggy, I enjoy slow progession in thrillers. Quality of the writing is also amazing. I would recommend this book to mystery, thriller lovers.

In the heart of a nation besieged by threats both domestic and foreign, the gaze of millions turns to a single figure: Prime Minister Damodar Das, known as The Panther, and his elite covert counter-terrorism unit, The Panther’s Ghosts. As India grapples with mounting challenges, questions abound: Will the nation’s bold new defensive strategy prove effective against its adversaries? Can The Panther’s Ghosts weather the storm of their latest mission unscathed? And perhaps most crucially, as tensions escalate, is the moment ripe for the enigmatic Puppeteer to step onto the stage? As the nation teeters on the brink, the answers to these questions hold the key to its future.

In contrast to the first novel in the series, this one builds a far more plausible immersive world of spies and bureaucrats. The novel gains depth and realism from the writers’ attention to historical and political context. We are inspired to admire the real-life heroes who toil in the shadows to defend their nations by the way they portray clandestine activities. Even though a lot was going on, with connections and leads, I occasionally needed explanation, but I still liked the pace.

The storyline is compelling and immersive because it is based on historical events and happenings and is founded in reality. The writers consistently raise the stakes and leave the reader wondering what will happen next. This keeps the reader interested and guessing. I loved this book and I highly recommend it to everyone!

Book Score: 4.5/5

My Thoughts:
I love a great spy Movie, and this book was just like a great spy movie but in a novel format. The extensive exposition, though occasionally tiring, ultimately works well in the context of the story.
The book centers on espionage, depicting countries attempting to sabotage each other while striving for their own benefits, and alliances are formed. All these complex relationships are played throughout the novel.

The story moves around an elite black box team (code-named Ghosts) known only to the Prime Minister of India (code-named Panther). Panther can deploy his ghosts to reduce the red tape that will be required if official RAW agents were to be used in said operations.

Each ghost operation termed a Strike, is initiated only in response to significant threats or actions from other countries that could lead to major disasters.
The character Raj is introduced as the MC of the book as The Puppeteer but he is absent for the entire Strike 3 and for half of Strike 4. His presence is felt throughout the book, enhancing his mystique and solidifying his role as a true puppeteer.

Other amazing characters include Sniper, Gef, Robert, and DD (Panther). There were many more characters but only a select few made an impression on me.

The plot is fast-paced it would be planning in one chapter and executing it in the next chapter. Time-wise, there was a substantial amount of time that passed in between scenarios. I quite like this real-reel kinda writing. It was just like watching a movie.

I started the book without knowing it was the second book of a series, but I think the story of book 1 was present in the prologue of this book, so it wasn’t confusing for me. But yeah I will go back and read the first book now.

I loved the book although the scene which I presumed to be the ending (the shock of a reveal) was not the ending. Despite this minor issue, I am captivated by the Panther’s Ghost series. I can’t wait to read the next book/previous book in the series.

Have you watched spy movies or movies like URI aren't they so captivating and yet heartbreaking when we see one of our soldiers martyr while fighting bravely and then we feel so joyous when we realize that India has done it and won the war either it's technical or ground war. This book was something like that filled with Rollercoaster of different emotions. My heart was literally beating out of my chest, and I was constantly praying that no soldier dies.
The way this book was written, it didn’t feel like reading, but instead, it felt like we were standing there watching them conquer and fight with them. The writing style was quite captivating, and it won't bore you. At the start of the book, until the 4th chapter, you'll feel it is slow, but it will escalate quite quickly when the plan and everything begins, and you'll be able to grasp and understand it. The resemblance in the story felt uncanny, and with a little research, I realized that it is based on real life, and it just made the reading process more interesting and heartbreaking. We never know what is happening and how our brave soldiers are protecting us while we are sitting here working undercover playing with their lives, leaving their family heartbroken.
I quite enjoyed reading it and was so invested that I couldn't keep it down. I read it in one sitting.
It felt like I was watching a movie. The writing is really good and easy to imagine. How critical the conditions are and how stressing the strikes were. Which made the reading process more captivating.
The book was left at Cliffhanger, and I can't wait for the 3rd book.
If you're someone who loves enjoying political thrillers, spy novels based on real life. You should definitely read it.
If you're a beginner and want to read an easy to understand and captivating political thriller, you should definitely read it.
If you're someone who shows interest in Indias politics, you should definitely read it.
I am adding this book to my favorites. Definitely recommended!!

Readers who like reading political thrillers will really enjoy this book.

The Puppeteer is quite an engaging story to start with! A story of espionage and political intrigue, drawing inspiration from real-life incidents involving Indian covert operatives.

The Sandesar brothers' audacious bank heist in India propels the narrative, leading to a perilous alliance between Albanian President Tefik Metta and China's Chairman Xi Wang. As geopolitical tensions escalate, the US faces threats, forcing President Akhmu to contemplate sacrificing alliances. Amid rumors of China's sinister plans, Prime Minister Damodar Das and his elite covert group, The Panther’s Ghosts, emerge as the nation's last line of defense. Rooted in India's defensive offense doctrine, the novel pays homage to the unsung heroes safeguarding the nation.

It blends reality with fiction, delivering a suspenseful narrative that explores the complexities of global politics and covert operations in a compelling and timely manner. Go for it.

The Puppeteer is the second book of The Panther’s Ghost Series. It's a thriller set in the world of espionage and involving the nation’s intricate power plays involving political drama. Prime Minister Damodar Das, The Panther leads a private unit. When a threat to the nation arises in a series of events by the Sandesar brother's robbery Panther's ghost faces the toughest mission.

It took some time for the story to hook me, but once it did, it became a real page-turner. The build-up of suspense, intrigue, strong characters, and fast-paced narrative made it feel like a power-packed action film. The author’s writing style is engaging, with clear descriptions and attention to detail and depth. However, at times, the story has infrequent jumps and becomes slow-paced, feeling like an info dump.

I would recommend this book to those who love political thrillers with spy missions. Although I enjoyed it, I think the experience would have been more fulfilling if I had read the first book in the series.

The story continues exactly where the first part left off. Though a short summary of the events of the first book and a brief introduction of characters are there, the two strikes performed by ghosts in the first book are so tantalising that I'll urge you to read it before this one. It was so intriguing in every aspect that I was wondering whether this one would be able to match it or not. But it did, and by a fair margin. The stakes are higher, situations are more critical, and the ghosts are in much more danger than before.

Is this a work of fiction? Yes. Is it a work of fiction in its entirety? No. The Puppeteer weaves real contemporary international situations into a fictional narrative seamlessly. For example, China's Belt and Road Initiative here becomes One Path, One Road. Data becomes a new weapon if it falls into the wrong hands, and with the help of it, the author duo shows what future-modern warfare would look like. It was like I was experiencing a Neeraj Pandey-esque thriller in written format. No wonder if the series gets an adaptation of its own.

The narrative unfolds at breakneck speed, with each chapter introducing new twists, turns, and situations. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the plot took an unexpected turn, keeping me guessing until the very end. The authors skillfully manage to not drag down the momentum of the story, even when a web of characters appears every now and then. Unlike the first one, where the focus was mainly on Raj, the Puppeteer gives equal attention to other ghosts too. In this way, I was able to feel the void left behind by the characters which was absent in the first one.

Overall, "The Puppeteer" is a must-read for anyone who loves a good spy thriller. With its fast-paced narrative, regular twists and turns, and real-world relevance, it's a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. Go grab a copy, buckle up, and prepare yourself for an action packed ride. You won't be disappointed. Recommended.

"The Puppeteer" is an awesome follow-up to The Panther's Ghosts series, taking place in India and surrounding the Sandesar brothers' escape from Albania. It's all about political drama, spying, and a crazy worldwide scheme cooked up by the Albanian leader and China. The Prime Minister and his spy team have their work cut out for them trying to protect India against this dangerous plot.

The authors bring in a bunch of interesting characters, like the mysterious Raj Pratap Rana and Geeta. Each character is really well-developed, adding layers to the story. The Panther's strong leadership and the other characters' fiery determination keep things moving. Ajit Menon and Anil Verma's writing is so vivid and detailed, it's like watching a movie. The suspense, pacing, and reveals keep you hooked, and the dialogue and descriptions feel real and add to the vibe of the book.

The book talks about patriotism, sacrifice, and loyalty. It gives a shoutout to the behind-the-scenes heroes in national security and looks at the tough choices people make to defend their country. The authors also dive into the tricky world of global politics and how countries balance their own security with worldwide issues. "The Puppeteer" keeps things moving quickly and keeps you hooked. The story moves along smoothly and keeps you interested from start to finish. It's easy to read and you can tell the authors know how to tell a good story from their experience in screenwriting.

In "The Puppeteer" by Ajit & Anil, the plot unfolds in a fast-paced narrative that revolves around multiple sub-plots. The story intricately weaves together reel and real-life incidents, offering a glimpse into the world of Indian covert operatives.

Even though the names are slightly changed, it is easy to identify some of the characters used in the story. I cross-checked a few facts, and it’s interesting to know how well the authors have used the available information and crafted this piece of fiction.

The characters in "The Puppeteer" are a compelling mix of heroes and villains, each with well-carved roles. Prime Minister Damodar Das, aka The Panther, stands out as a refreshing portrayal of a leader genuinely concerned about both his nation and its people. He breaks the stereotype of selfish political leaders, adding depth to the narrative.

One of my favorite character arcs was of Raj with his one-man-army attitude as he gradually learns to become more of a team member. Lala, Sniper, Dhariwal, etc., are a few other characters that stood out. While Geeta's role could have been more pronounced, the unexpected introduction of Adia added a strong and empowering dimension to the narrative.

The writing style is influenced by Anil's background in screenplay, which is evident in the heavy reliance on dialogue. This approach contributes to the novel's fast-paced nature, offering readers a thrilling experience.

The cover and title of "The Puppeteer" aptly capture the essence of the novel. The title intrigues with its hint at covert operations and manipulation, while the cover complements the geopolitical and action themes. The visual elements effectively convey the tension and secrecy embedded in the narrative.

Recommended for fans of action-packed patriotic dramas and espionage thrillers, "The Puppeteer" offers a gripping tale inspired by real-life covert operations and is a homage to unsung heroes dedicated to safeguarding their nation.

"The Puppeteer," following "Panther's Ghosts," is a gripping story that takes us on a thrilling ride through the world of spies and secrets.🤫🕵🏻‍♂️ Written by Ajit Menon, this book dives deep into a tangled web of international drama involving big money theft, sneaky political deals, and high-stakes espionage.🔎🕵🏻‍♀️

The story starts with a bang as the Sandesar brothers flee to Albania after stealing a huge amount of money, setting off a chain of events that pull in countries like China, the United States, and India. The plot thickens when Albania's leader teams up with China's top guy, aiming to win an election but also secretly planning something much bigger on a global scale. This gets the attention of the U.S., and suddenly, India's safety is on the line.

At the heart of India's defense is Prime Minister Damodar Das, nicknamed "The Panther", and his elite team of spies known as "The Panther's Ghosts".❤‍🔥 They're the country's best hope in facing down threats from both inside and outside India.🇨🇳 The story takes us on a journey through their daring missions and the tough choices they make to keep their country safe.❤

Menon's storytelling is simple yet powerful, making us feel like we're right there with the characters, navigating the tricky world of international politics and espionage. The way he describes the covert operations makes us appreciate the real-life heroes who work in the shadows to protect their countries.❤

The book's charm lies in how it mixes real-world issues with a story that's easy to get lost in. This book kept me guessing with its twists and turns, making it a page-turner until the very end.🔎❤

The Puppeteer is a political thriller filled with espionage and nationalist pride, where each country is fighting to come out on top in a very intense political game.
It follows two brothers who have robbed Indian banks of millions of dollars before fleeing to Albania, the Panther, Prime Minister Damodar Das, and his Ghosts, an elite but covert counter-terrorism group, must swing into action to save the country, especially with world powers like China and the USA locked in a massive power struggle.

This story is based on real life covert operations and you can feel the patriotism bleeding through every page, especially in the way the ghosts are prepared to do anything to make sure that India is safe.

It is an ode to real-life geopolitics, showing how geopolitical events can have a domino effect across the world. The authors take their time carefully mapping these events out and establishing the intricate details, and will keep you invested till the very end.

It feels like watching a movie in the Race franchise, with so much backstabbing and literal stabbing and blowing up. Only, this is on the political storyscape.

What I didn’t like, however, is:
* There is a lot of info dumping in the details, which when combined with the slow pace made me impatient.
* There are loose ends towards the end, for example, what happened to the bank robber brother(s)?
* There are quite a few plot choices, like Raj knowing French, that seem irrelevant and convenient.
* The presence of Mossad and their portrayal.
* And my biggest complaint: Not enough women characters in this story. It is made out to seem like women don’t participate in politics. Even those present are turned into small, helpless characters, with only one getting any proper plot and page time.

Overall, The Puppeteer a fast-paced, action-packed political thriller that will keep you invested apart from the aforementioned cons.

The Puppeteer, the second book in The Panther’s Ghost Series, is an action-packed thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end. India, under the Prime Minister who is known as The Panther along with his trusted National Security Advisor has recruited a team of elite covert-operatives who carry out deadly and dangerous operations. This team is called The Panther’s Ghosts and the book is about their daring missions on international soil.
The story’s plot is about two corrupt and gone rogue brothers who have looted the Indian banks and taken asylum in Albania, a country where there is already tension mounting and superpowers like China and America meddling in their politics and military affairs. The Panther’s Ghosts are assigned various roles to look after the nation's interests as well as its friends and well-wishers.
The authors have done a marvellous job of portraying the world of international politics, power dynamics, tussle for power, and the world of spies and their espionage. There is a non-stop action and readers will witness the heroic and selfless acts of these Ghosts and their associates. The authors have taken inspiration from real-life events. Readers will feel that the events and the actions seem realistic and nothing is over-the-top. Readers will easily connect to these unsung heroes, root for their success and pray for their safety and well-being.
As for the plot twists, there are so many and so wild! The title, “The Puppeteer” says it all, readers will keep guessing who is the mastermind behind various operations what part of the action was planned and what part was spontaneous. Reading this book was quite an experience and I have to say that this was one of the best books I have read in recent times, it just feels like you are watching a high-quality action movie. If you enjoy fast-paced action thrillers, please do not miss this book. I am eagerly waiting for the next instalment of the series.

Amid these tensions, India's defensive offense doctrine and the elite covert group, The Panther’s Ghosts, led by Prime Minister Damodar Das, emerge as vital players in safeguarding national interests.

The Puppeteer is the continuing series of The Panther's Ghost by Ajit Menon and Arvind Verma. The book excavates into the Indian bank robbery of US$ 700 million by the Sandesar brothers, who later took refuge in Albania.

The robbery of millions by the Sandesar Brothers made the government of Albania try to track up an affiliation with China. The book was portrayed with the emotions of our Indian soldiers risking their lives and teaming up with Panther's Ghost, Damodar Das, in an escapade.

As the name suggests in the first part, "The Panther" is actually none other than Prime Minister Damodar Das, who was actually seen as the person of the hour and was in charge of the counterterrorism unit. Even though the book is thrilling and captivating to just turn the pages down one after the other, we actually often forget to show our gratitude towards our nation and to those people who are at constant risk just to safeguard the political issues with other nations.

The book throws light on the importance of words and friendship, which actually set the US into a conundrum whether to ally with China. What seemed eye-catching was Raj, whose character was built really well in the first part as well as in the second part. The turmoil on the national and international boundaries, the assassinations, the firings, the execution of the plan by Damodar with the team, the losing of the members, and the Indians praying for the safety of the team can make anyone sweat down and make anyone feel the perfect emotions.

The book proved gripping and can interest anyone who's into thrillers. The language is lucid and easy to understand. Highly recommended for beginners who're into thriller fantasy.

"The Puppeteer," co-authored by Ajit Menon and Anil Verma, succeeds its predecessor, belonging to the wider ambit of "The Panther's Ghosts Series." It is a sabre-rattling, fast-paced book exploring the deep, inner recesses of geopolitics and espionage. This spy novel has intriguingly materialized itself as an espionage thriller that will keep you hooked to your spot as you meander through the dark twists and turns with every turning of the page.

Reading this book transported me to a place marked by pandemonium, a world (at a wider angle) that is witnessing the peril of security breach with serious threats, and that very place is India. The book explained, in intricate details, the ways and manoeuvres that the Prime Minister of India (named Damodar Das a.k.a. The Panther) adopted while implementing covert security missions with his elite counter-terrorism unit.

Right from exploring the themes of patriotism and unity to clawing deep into the dark political powers with the invisible tug-of-war played by the superpowers, the book covers it all. The characters are striking and charismatic. Plot-building has been done in an immaculate way that will keep you hooked till the very end.

As you marvel at the seamless syncing of real-world global issues and events with its fictional counterpart, you won't help but wonder how crazy things are and how murky geopolitics can get. It depicts situations marked by kerfuffle, projects the chaotic situation of national security violation and keeps your heart beating faster as you continue wandering what the next phase this spy novel will present you with.

Engaging, dark and saturated with secrets! It's easily one of the best espionage thrillers I came across.

As a fan of the previous work of the author “ The Panther’s Ghost” I was so delighted to see the next part of the series and I have no second thoughts of picking up this book and reading it. And yes it was out of the expectations like the previous one and I want this series to be continued more and more as a fan of thrillers. Even Though it's a part of the series it can be read as standalone as well, but still my suggestion is to give the first book a read so that you know the characters of the book better and have a wholesome experience of the series.

As the blurb speaks best about the plot I'm not gonna add much spoilers to a wonderful thriller if you are gonna take my suggestion. And TBH I was surprised in the beginning of the book itself, which is the foreword of the Governor of West Bengal , Dr C.V. Anand Bose, and his words quadrupled my interest and excitement to read this “ real-reel” book. I'm sure that I had increased your excitement to take up this book by the word "real-reel” and I’m sure you are not gonna regret picking up this one.

With a plot that makes the readers sit at the edge, action that everyone loves and suspense that makes it hard to put down, narration that was creative enough to spell magic on the minds, this book stands as the best thriller that could ever be read for sure. Fans of detective and spy stories and secret missions with the extra masala of geopolitics, counterterrorism, defence and gripping action will love this book and reread it again and again like me.

So what's late, grab the opportunity to immerse in the world of secret agents and their secret missions with lots of adventure and information through this stunning book. I highly recommend all my bookish friends to give this book a try for sure. Happy reading…
