There is no greater motive than bloodlust, DNA, and revenge mixed up in a cocktail of hatred …
Jasper, watching Mason go down, is all-in on the investigation. Taking over the current investigation team, he distrusts everyone. Tesla, his cousin, expects Jasper to get to the bottom of this and fast.
ER nurse Amber isn’t on Mason’s team but knows something major is happening. The hospital is overwhelmed with men, as they want updates on Mason’s condition. A few look like they belong, and then a couple don’t. Taking pictures of those in question, she sends them to Jasper, which starts a cascading chain of events. And none of it good.
Hunting down Mason’s shooter, Jasper is sidelined by keeping Amber safe, when she’s targeted next. He must keep them both safe, … even as the investigation heats up and gets even uglier.

This is a book 1 of a new series. A very prominent character who can be found on many of the military series of Dale Mayer was shot. Man Down. Steps are taken to protect and answers pursued. Jasper and Tessa are first up in the investigations. Military romance, page turning story and beloved characters in this story and in the future books. Bravo!.

Jasper: Man Down Book 1 by Dale Mayer was an absolute pleasure to read. A new series that has a lot of favourites from previous series making for an awesome reading experience. I can’t wait to read more in this series.
The prologue of this book had me screaming NO! NO! Not Mason! Tesla and Mason are two of my all-time favorite characters. Mason is responsible for so many others and so many of them have found their own happiness by being on his team. So, this just hit me hard and fast. Tesla was running to Mason when he was shot, her cousin Jasper, who drove her to the base, ran after her to assist in the aftermath.
Getting Tesla situated close but safe, Jasper joins a Masters who's already working on staunching the blood from a head wound. Jasper finds another abdominal wound and uses his shirt to put pressure on that one while the wait for the approaching sirens to arrive.
With Mason on his way to the hospital, Jasper approaches Tesla to take her to be with Mason. They are cousins and Jasper is soon to start his new job on the base. Looks like he's starting it earlier than he thought.
We meet Amber an ER nurse, as she assists some with Mason before being pulled for another patient. She's the one Jasper speaks with as to Mason's condition and she immediately shows her concern for Tesla. Amber checks on her regularly and brings her food even as Jasper arranges for round the clock security for her and Mason. Only people both he and Tesla can trust. It's Amber who arranges the cot for Tesla to stay with Mason thankful that the room also has a private bathroom.
Jasper begins working with Masters sort of independent from the team assigned to investigate. Jasper is allowed on the team, but they don't know who he is, and they don't quite trust him and the feeling is mutual.
Amber sends a video to Jasper of a couple of men who to her were acting suspicious and things from there get a bit crazy. Starting with Amber being struck by a car in the parking lot.
There are many twists in this tale, while our focus is on Mason's recovery and finding the culprit. Jasper also has to protect Amber as the attacks on her continue. He also finds himself attracted to her in ways he really shouldn't and isn't sure he can be.
We see some of Mason's team, notably Marcus, Evan and Corey. I'm sure we'll be seeing others as this series continues. I really can't wait for the next book in this series.
I should have known better. After what happened in the Shadow Recon series, I should not have expected anything different.
With Mason hanging in the balance and Jasper working to find out who and why, how could I have possibly thought anything would be resolved in one book? Each series just evolves into a new series.
In this book, there is an issue that was either completely overlooked, or I missed it while listening to the audiobook. (Btw, this narrator is SO much better than most of the others used for this author's different series.) Back to my point.
Amber was in the crosshairs of dangerous people. The assumption being that it had to do with something specific she did in regard to Mason's case. But, she was clearly asked wht she was getting the stink eye BEFORE she did that specific thing. I had questions.
-Was Amber in danger because of that specific thing she did?
-Would Amber have been in danger ANYWAY because she was being watched before she did what she did?
-Was there something in Amber's past that had nothing to do with Mason?
-Why was she being given the stink eye in the first place? It didn't make sense. Other nurses were helping Mason and talking to Tesla. Jasper was closer to the situation than Amber, but he wasn't targeted.
I previously said that with the end of the previous series that I was going to step away. I should have listened to myself.
I am not saying the book wasn't interesting and intriguing. The book kept me completely engaged from the beginning. I started to realize about 85% into the book that it was going to happen again.
I am just frustrated because series after series the pattern is the same. The couple gets together in the book, but we are no closer to the major mystery, and the end of the book sets the reader up for another mystery.
I am familiar with the pattern several of this author's series' follow. It's almost like a cliffhanger without really being a cliffhanger.
The series title tells it all. The man is still down. For how many more books until we get an answer? Who knows?
What a fantastic start to a new series, following quickly on the heels of the astonishing finish to the "Shadow Recon" series and with the promise of more to come. Jasper Mackintosh was at the base when the plane flying Mason home was due to land, with Jasper was his very excited cousin, Tesla, the wife that Mason adored. Mason was well respected by all the SEAL teams, an excellent boss and mentor but everything at the base changed when the sniper's bullets took Mason down, someone knew when the plane was due to land, this had to be an inside job but who would want to kill much loved Mason ? Tesla wouldn't leave her husband's bedside, he was in a medically induced coma and despite his team being on guard, Tesla would make sure that no further harm came to Mason. Jasper needed answers, he needed to be in on the investigation team and he didn't care how many strings he had to pull and how many toes he had to step on to make that happen, Jasper was a straight talking ,no nonsense guy, the team didn't trust him and he didn't care because he didn't trust anyone on the base. Nurse Amber had been on duty when Mason was admitted and after a chat with Jasper she did something that would put her life in jeopardy, Jasper felt responsible and after an attempt on her life he would do anything in his power to keep her, Tesla and Mason safe, he would get his answers and would fall in love along the way. This story has a happy ending for Amber and Jasper with a theme running through for following books in the series. Love the story and look forward to the next in the series.

I find I have some mixed feelings about this book, I didn't particularly enjoy it, mostly because it felt like a few long paragraphs of dialogue interspersed with a tiny bit of action. The balance between show and tell is out of whack, it was all tell, all the way. The characterisation is stilted. Because the show and tell is off it means no effort is made to develop the characters. He said, she said, he did etc. I have no idea of Jaspers feelings or thoughts, why he isn't welcomed onto the investigation team, what secret team he's on, how he gets stuff done because all of that is off page. That means that for much of the book the aggression against him isn't explained. Bizarre. I have previously read Mason and Tesla's story years ago but otherwise I would have no clue about who they are and what they do. You absolutely can't drop into the story, it has too many past connections. It totally can't be read as a standalone because it's a cliff hanger. I don't remember that being pointed out in the blurb either. You have to buy the series to understand what's going on with Mason. Now that, as far as I'm concerned that is just naughty. If you are a fan of the genre, weird romance because the romantic stuff is getting her a take out, in between her being occasionally too stupid to live and in denial about feelings not shared on page, well then, go for it. At the moment I don't think I will be purchasing the rest of the series. I just don't really understand the authors writing style, it grates and that's despite my already owning quite a few of her books.
And Jasper knows that it can only mean one thing....it's an inside job and somewhere on base there is corruption. He jumps feet first into the investigation and I love that, despite his history, there is no hesitation, just a grim determination to uncover the truth and find the traitor/s. A grim determination which only deepens when Amber manages to also become a target, a loose end to be removed. He finds he is all in with both the job he was unsure of and a relationship he wasn't looking for, but as much as he battles with himself and his past, he knows he has no choice....he has to do both, his heart won't let him do anything but. I am gutted for Mason and Tesla, especially as he is returning from the dangerous mission in the Arctic and she is so heavily pregnant. But if anyone can survive this and come out stronger, it is them, and his very loyal team won't stop until they are both safe and the threat is eliminated. A great start to the series, Jasper is the perfect lead for the investigation, making waves and ruffling feathers as he powers through, asking the hard questions and demanding the answers no-one wants to give or acknowledge.
Jasper by Dale Mayer Man Down Series Book One Jasper Maclintok is on base when his cousin’s husband, Mason, is shot right on the tarmac. He makes sure he gets on the investigative team. Everyone, well, perhaps not everyone, considering someone just shot him, loves Mason. It seems like it must’ve been an inside job. Jasper is still the outsider, so he faces an uphill battle as no one is exempt from the suspect list. Amber, an ER nurse, is on duty as they bring Mason in. Amber does what she can to help his wife, Tesla, in the waiting room as she’s pregnant. When the man with her asks Amber to keep her eyes open for suspicious people in the waiting room, she notices a few and records them on her phone. Big mistake. Someone on that video doesn’t want her around as a witness. Good thing she has Jasper watching her back. A new series, and it’s starting great with this first book. Mason’s shooting happens as he returns from his trip to the Arctic in the Shadow Recon series in the last book, Mountain. Looking forward to the rest of the series that will continue to hunt for whoever shot Mason. **Language https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
For Jasper, watching Mason go down, is all-in investigation. Jasper must keep them both safe, as the investigation heats up and gets even uglier.
This is a great new mystery as they struggle to find the motivation behind the attack on Mason while also trying to protect love interest Amber. Plenty of danger and drama while also huge empathy for Tesla who could only watch helplessly as Mason fell. A great story with promise for the future.

I really enjoyed reading Jasper . This is the first story in the new series Man Down . It's full of intrigue and suspense . When the beloved Mason is shot right as he's crossing the tarmac in front of his wife Tesla . Jasper her cousin jumps in to investigate and find who is responsible . Jasper asks ER Nurse Amber to keep watch for anyone suspicious. He never meant to put her in danger . When Amber is almost run down Jasper steps in to protect her as they spend time together the attraction the first had grows stronger . This story is definitely a wonderful start to this series and I love having older characters from other stories brought into this series . I couldn't put it down . I anxiously await the rest of the series to catch who is behind Mason's shooting . I highly recommend taking the time to read this Spectacular on the edge story .

Ooohh! Now I like this series already! I was hooked and all in immediately.
I love the blending of past characters and the new one’s we get to learn about. This series is going to be special because it revolves around our favorite characters, Mason & Tesla. Jasper is Tesla’s cousin and family means everything. He is trained and determined. He WILL be on the team to find the people behind Mason’s attack.
It is hard not giving away any spoilers, so this will be short and sweet!
Fantastic storyline - check Heart wrenching and knuckle biting - check Beloved characters - check All around intense - check, check Suspenseful and intriguing - check, check, check
I could keep going on and on, but this is a must read if you love this author and her many fabulous characters!
Mason is a man who is respected and a loyal friend to his teammates so when he is shot Jasper will do whatever is necessary to find out who is behind it especially since he is married to her cousin. They managed to keep him alive until they are able to get medical treatment, but one small request has put a nurse in danger.
Amber is a nurse in the hospital who is there for Mason and his wife Tesla through this very difficult time. Her attempts to help Jasper try and find out who is responsible has placed her in danger and now Jasper must not only protect Mason and Tesla but herself as well before the guilty party strikes again.
This is a great start to a new series that allows us to reconnect with Mason and Tesla but also get to know Jasper and Amber as they take us on an action-packed adventure.
Jasper gets involved to investigate when he sees Mason get shot in front of him and Tesla and gets Amber, an ER nurse to let him know is she sees anything suspicious at the hospital. Unfortunately getting her involved has her in the cross hairs of whoever wants to take down Mason and now Amber is a target when she reports something fishy to Jasper. He goes all protective when she is targeted and will do whatever it takes to keep her safe and find who hurt Mason. A good read with some suspense and great characters. It’s been awhile since Tesla has been around and it was great reading and remembering how formidable and strong she is. Amber is just a strong and kind and her and Jasper make a great team. The mystery continues as to who wants to take out Mason and it’s a great start to a new series. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
What a way to kick off a series, Dale does it again with a twisted and suspenseful story that gripped and had my focus from start to finish. Her way with words and reaping maximum interest is astounding, always different and fabulous characters. The added worry with this was Mason and Tesla, the horror of what happened and what could. The main plot rather like Shadow Recon, follows on so we do only get so far but it is a happy ending for this couple. I'm more than happy with that, it gives me something to look forward too with Mason's story. Action and excitement, romance and easily liked main characters, a plot to get to grips with, what more could I possibly need. Oh yes! For Mason to be ok.
Great time to jump on board - book 1 in the Man Down series. Each book has its own HEA, but the main mystery runs through each book with just a little being released in each book. This is Jasper and Ambers story. Jasper sees Mason go down. His past makes him perfect for taking over add the fact that Tesla (Masons wife) is his cousin. Amber is a nurse. Like most she gives her all. Fast paced emotional page turner that held me from beginning to end. I received a free book with no expectations or requests. I freely volunteer my own thoughts and opinions. #Jasper #ManDown #DaleMayer #ValleyPublishing #Booksprout
Supporting his cousin Tesla, attending the airport to greet her husband Mason home after his mission turns nasty fast. Mason shot and Tesla trying not to give birth, has Jasper hitting the ground at his new job hard and fast. Things don't move fast enough for Jasper and meeting his new team leaves more frustrations than needed at this time. Locking down the hospital were Mason has been sent, Jasper meets Amber. Trying to settle in, seeing old friends see Jasper moving forward very very slowly till Amber becomes a target. Teaming up together trying to get answers see them become closer, working out who to trust and trying work out who did this. A very good start to a new series.
As we left off from the Shadow Recon series, Mason has been hurt and is in a coma. Jasper was there and the men have gone into full protection mode as they start to piece together who shot Mason and why. Amber is a nurse at the hospital but doesn't feel good vibes from a couple of men. Things turn bad as Amber comes into the cross hairs and it's up to Jasper and co to do d the start of a big investigation of who wants to hurt Amber and who wants Mason dead.
Love the start of this series. It had all the fine qualities of a Dale Mayer book. Intrigue with twist and turns as we find out who wants to hurt the team. Can't wait for the next book.
I couldn't wait for this book! When I read the epilogue of "Mountain" I went into shock mode like I'm sure many readers did. If you haven't read any of the other books that Mason is in, he is a very strong presence and means a lot to a lot of people. I would say everyone likes him but apparently not. I knew I would want to keep reading once I started so I saved it for the weekend. If you like suspense with a few laughs and growing romance, this book is for you.

From the first page this new series starts with a bang...or two. Mason is taken down right in front of his wife. The hunter is on for the sniper, the who and why. His pregnant wife Tesla remains at his side at the hospital and her cousin Jasper takes lead on the investigation. There's a lot going on, nurse Amber finds herself in danger for seeing too much. Jasper takes her to safety as the investigation continues. This is going to be a thrilling series and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Mason has been shot just as he exits his flight back home. Mason's very pregnant wife Tesla is on the airfield along with many other people including Jasper. Mason is taken to the hospital and is in a coma and Tesla stays by his side. Mason insists on being on the investigative team and teams up with the emergency room nurse Amber as she noticed a suspicious looking person and took a video of a few people hanging around. Jason then has to protect Amber as she is in danger.

Loved the first book in the new series especially as while Jasper is on the hunt for the bad guy from the beginning whilst Amber doesn't fully come into the mix for a bit. There are some serious trust issues with those around Jasper and no idea why Mason was the target so I look forward to this coming to light. Would have loved either Terk or one of his team to have made an appearance, but who knows what will happen next!.

This is the first book in the series and we are off to a great start unfortunately Mason has been shot but unluckily Jasper(Tesla's cousin) was right there and has the necessary skills to help solve who wants Mason out the way. Jasper meets Amber at the hospital, she's an ER nurse and she befriends Tesla during this difficult time but as she's helping look for bad guys she been pulled into some dangerous games. Jasper will do anything to protect Amber as she has slowly broken the walls he's surrounded himself with. Good Story, wonderful characters. Can't wait for the next book.
Great new (sorta) series. Mason had an assassination attempt made on his life and is still unconscious fighting to return to Tesala and their family. Jasper is the cousin of Tesala and friend of Mason and gets himself assigned to the investigation team which he soon takes over. The more they find, the more bodies turn up. Nurse Amber gets in the middle of everything by taking a video that had more information than anyone first suspected. Can they dig through the maze and find the sharp shooter and cause?
Get ready for another long series to finding out who shot Mason. He's hanging in there since his surgery and in a coma. Jasper is leading the investigation and it's causing problems with some of the other guys on the team, but it's not his own guys. Amber is a nurse and gets caught up on something she shouldn't have. So get ready for the danger and who done it side of things. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This new series centers around Mason who was in charge in Shadow Recon. As he's getting off the plane someone shoots him, now in a coma they have to figure out who wants him dead. Jasper is Telsa's cousin and is now heading up the investigation. Amber is the nurse who was in the ER when Mason came in and has gotten caught up in the mess and someone now wants her gone too. Danger, suspense and wonderful characters will keep you reading.
This was great start to what looks like it will be another great series from Dale Mayer. Jasper is investigating Mason’s shooting and Amber is an ER nurse who saw something that someone wants to keep hidden. Jasper works to protect Amber while also trying to find the shooter. I liked this story. It was nice to see some characters from past books. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I loved this start to a new series. What a way to mobilize a group of men - having their loved leader shot. And then not knowing for sure, at least at first, if it was a matter of in the wrong place at the wrong time or an assassination attempt. The story was filled with danger and suspense, behind the scenes investigations, romance, and family (both blood and found). I loved the way the story unfolded and can't wait to see what will happen next.
Wow! Another mystery to solve that gets started with an explosive story. Absolutely adore Jasper and Amber. This is an extremely well written book that introduces us to new characters. Well beloved past characters are involved as well. Strong story filled with secrets and intriguing characters. Cannot wait for the next book.

Jasper is strong tough and yet gentle too. Tesla loves him and trusts him to protect her and Mason. To investigate and find the sniper. Amber is a very good nurse, a very strong and determined woman. She ends up being in the right place at the wrong time and she is in danger. Jasper meets her at the hospital when he goes to see Tesla and Mason. The meet again when she is in danger and Jasper takes her to his home to protect her. Ends well for them both.
What a amazing start to a brand new series. Jasper (Man down) is book one and packed with so much action. Mason is shot so Jasper who is Telsa's cousin is now heading up the investigation, to figure out who wants Mason dead. Amber is a ER nurse and gets caught in the situation. Jasper will protect Amber while hunting Mason's shooter. This is a fantastic read that you are bound to love.
