Casper Vance is the first human born in a century – a “medical mystery.” In a near future, people, known as extra-humans, have unique abilities called extra-human traits. Lacking any special ability, Casper is tormented by his classmates and made a social pariah in small-town Fallon, but he finds his escape in Evee. She is fascinated by Casper and accepts his outcast friends. When a dangerous presence inhabits Fallon, Casper and his friends must fight for their lives. Follow the story of society’s last human and discover if he survives the extraordinary talents of everyone around him. This gripping, coming-of-age series challenges the characters, as well as the reader, to think about humanity and whether its meaning can be lost.

I felt genuinely sad about finishing this book! It is one of those novels that you want to carry on reading with characters that you want to continue sharing the lives of.

I managed to steal/borrow this book from my sister who was kindly sent it from the US by the author's mother. Intrigued by the blurb, I thought I'd give it a go and I was instantly captivated. It is a very easy and enjoyable read with believable and relatable characters. Aaron Slade has a very natural, eloquent style of writing that draws you in to his world. For me, he gets the balance of description and action just right. At no point did I find myself 'bored' but rather deeply absorbed and reluctant to put it down!

I can see this rapidly becoming a very popular title, I'm glad I've had the privilege of reading it so soon but will definitely be suffering a real book hangover with this one!

Although it takes place in the future, and with no "humans" left, it was still easy to relate to the characters and feel their joys and pains. The book sucked me in quickly and I found myself not being able to stop reading.
The characters were strong and the plot made me gasp, laugh, and cry.
I'm very excited to read the next one!

Excellent book for Young Adults - It never stays on the library shelf for long. An interesting take on superpowers (kinda), an engaging and rebellious plot, and even a tad bit of romance! I can not recommend this book enough.

I received this book from a friend of the author. I wasn't sure it would be my type of reading but once I started I didn't want to put it down. Fabulous book!

A good dystopian story, with a lot of potential. It seems geared to the younger end of the YA spectrum (Think "1984 meets Sky High"). But the characters are sympathetic and there's some good character development. Although, at nearly 400 pages, it can drag on a bit.
The author had an interesting idea for working backstory into the book, but I think he may have over used it. Some of those scenes didn't add to the story and might have been left out or combined.
In spite of all that, I did actually like this book. And I'll likely get the next one.

Brilliant! I have never read a book like this before but I am so glad I did! I cannot wait to read the next book, I'm hoping that this will be released around the world as I think it will be a bestseller. Definitely as good if not better than books like The Hunger Games etc
